Enjoyable read overall, but kind of slow for me, sometimes boring. I won't go on with this series.

Delightful. Given the original 90s publication date, I'm particularly pleased with how female forward this story was. It might seem like feminism 101 that the princess wants more out of life than comportment and being married off, that a female dragon can be the King of Dragons, that Morwen the witch, and cat lady,☺️ is a formidable ally, but as this feels like it was written for middle grade readers, I don't begrudge it for simple, clear 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? messaging. On the Terry Pratchett/Tiffany Aching-esque side of things I was chortling at how harmlessly befuddled and bumbling the knights and princes were, how easily, if temporarily, vanquished the wizards were. The reptilian demotion of Woraug was perfect. 4mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/4 Does Cimorene have the potential to be a little 'not like other girls', or at least, 'not like other princesses' ? Yes, which makes me appreciate her friendship with Alianora all the more, who is happy to find her prince and is not condemned for wishing for that ending. Always a joy to find a book from an earlier time I'd say still holds up...just not enough for me to be interested in continuing the series. 4mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 My Tumblr post-based curiosity been been fully satisfied. 💁🏼‍♂️ ⚠️Animal death (edited) 4mo

Going to be an old grump for a moment.
I was four when this book was first published, and the only reason I know it exists now is a Tumblr post appreciating the original cover art.
See first edition, another edition I don't mind, and the latest cover I got from the library below. There's just something about children's book art and animation from the 90s that feels like it's been lost or at least not prioritized as a form since. 🙎🏼‍♂️

Catch up the first.

I loved this book, absolutely adored it. I wish I‘d read it as a kid and I can‘t wait for kiddo to read it. But she‘ll have to wait until I finish the quartet because otherwise we‘ll be fighting over them! Cimorene is a great hero and Kazul the dragon is awesome. I hope to finish the remaining three this month.

Clare-Dragonfly I should reread these books! I only remember them very vaguely so they‘d be almost new to me. But I am sure I loved them. 11mo

I have to say, I will learn to cook if I can be a princess for a dragon. Anyways, I loved this book with every fiber of my being. Only once did I despair at the sheer volume of knights coming to the rescue. Fortunately that wasn‘t permanent

I felt like a kid again when I sat down and read this in a day. An amazing MG book about a princess who is supposed to do "proper" princess things.... being dragon's princess technically counts as proper princess things. Cimorene gets caught up in the politics of the dragons and must uncover a conspiracy about the wizards meddling in the affairs of the dragons. #fantasy #middlegrade #dragons

Loving this middle grade book which has a princess who is hell bent on busting all social conventions.

TheAromaofBooks This is one of my favorite series!!! 4y
Smarkies @TheAromaofBooks I am really looking forward to finishing off the rest of the books in the coming months. 😄 4y
TheAromaofBooks One side note is that she actually wrote the fourth (final) book first... so it does feel different in tone/style than the first three books that are basically prequels to her original story haha It threw me a little the first time I read them because I didn't enjoy the last book quite as much - but it makes more sense when you realize the published order is different than the chronological order. 4y

“He doesn‘t seem very impressed,” Cimorene commented in some amusement.

“Why should he be?” Kazul said.

“Well, you‘re a dragon,” Cimorene answered, a little taken aback.

“What difference does that make to a cat?”

“Yes, yes, but that has nothing to do with it,” Kazul said a little testily. “‘King‘ is the name of the job. It doesn‘t matter who holds it.”

Cimorene stopped and thought for a moment. “You mean that dragons don‘t care whether their king is male or female; the title is the same no matter who the ruler is.”

“That‘s right...”

Cimorene doesn't want to be a regular princess. She would much rather live among the dragons than sit in a castle all day sewing. In this hilarious tale, Cimorene embarks on an adventure to become a dragon's princess.

This is the perfect introductory book to the fantasy genre. Suitable for young readers and teens.

I read a little into the second chapter, and she finds her way into a hovel with many dragons. I thought it was very brave of her to convince Kazul to take her on as the dragon princess to cook and organize the treasure rooms for them. It is more interesting for her than the proper princess stuff anyways.

After reading the back of the book, I think I would like it because princess Cimorene is not a normal princess. She runs away to live with Kazul, the most dangerous and powerful dragon around. In the first chapter, she hates being a princess and doing princess things. Her parents do not let her learn magic. She finds out that her parents plan to marry her with a prince who is not very smart so she takes advice from a talking frog and runs away.

1. Honestly, probably Anne of Green Gables, but I have a huge soft spot for the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, which are just so funny.
2. Does horseradish count?? At a church dinner a long time ago they had delicious strawberry jello & I put a big dollop of what I thought was whipped cream on it - only to find out it was horseradish!!
3. Spiders!

Alright I accidentally fell into rereading the whole series instead of just one. But how could one resist a book about being a dragons princess, discovering and unraveling wizards plots, and using dumb men's assumptions about women against them?
Not to mention Kazul's library! Talk about dream collections!

Also, I‘ve never been able to come up with a literary tattoo that would be meaningful enough to *me* personally, but this might change that. I mean, just picture the wooden sign from Morwen‘s porch, maybe on a bicep or a shoulder blade: NONE OF THIS NONSENSE, PLEASE

mrsh62010 I don't know the references but i love this idea. I tattooed "NO" on my ring finger after my 2nd divorce and it's done more for me than remind me not to get into another miserable marriage... It also reminds me of my ability to just say no, no thanks, not for me, I don't want to... Any time i want!! So I think your idea would be great to let yourself and others know you'll have none of that nonsense! 6y
