Moment of truth! .
.
Okay, so I at first was very reluctant and struggled to get into Outlander (even though I love, love LOVE the show!) but now I can‘t stop reading. I admit at first it took me awhile to get used to the Scottish conversations and the way that it was written but now I very easily can read and understand it and I‘m in love. So happy I have chosen to read these and didn‘t give up ❀️
.

kgriffith Davina Porter narrated the audiobooks and is truly the main reason I‘ve read as far as I have in the series. 3w
BookishEscapade @kgriffith really? That‘s good to know! I might reread by listening to them. Thanks! 3w

This wasn't really my cup of tea. It worked well as a romance, with the initial trip back through time the only fantasy element, and I really enjoyed the characters, but the frequent instances of corporal punishment and sexual assault were unsettling. Glad I read it in case I ever need to fight off a wolf, but I don't think this series is for me.

Getting in on this clever idea from @LaraReads 😊

My Outlander bookish basket would consist of:

* lots of candles
* a toothbrush (Claire would approve!)
* a multi-purpose tartan
* map of the Scottish clans (where‘s Lallybroch?!)
* lots of herbs for fixing all the things
* a pocket Jamie (if the real one isn‘t available)

Today I adulted and helped a friend give a presentation on how to help actually autistic adults as a support worker. I have never done public speaking, let alone speaking about things so raw to myself. But I managed to talk for about twenty minutes on what it is like to be an actually autistic adult and what we need from those we employ to support us. This was my treat to me for managing amazingly today! Bring on study next year. I have this!

Darklunarose @Liatrek you‘re welcome. As a family I have three autistic kids (15,17 and 20) and my husband was diagnosed a few weeks ago. Myself last year. I‘m hoping to maybe do some more advocacy now I know I‘m not going to die of fear. 2mo
ruskigurl16 Thank you for speaking out like you did. Autism is a difficult diagnosis, even if you are high functioning (like myself) and the community would benefit from positive advocates! 😁❀️ 2mo
Darklunarose @ruskigurl16 it sure is a hard world, and a lot of issues come from the way the nuerotypical world treats us. I am level 2 to three autistic as are my kids and hubby. The world can be cruel. If we help just one adult out there....then it‘s worth it. And that‘s how you start...by changing one mind, or how one person treats us...and hopefully it snowballs! 2mo

My local opshop had a 3 for $1 sale. I was there on day 1! Collected 65 books, only cost me $22! Super excited to add to my collection of Bryce Courtney, Jodi Picoult, Diana Gabaldon, Philipa Gregory, Stephen King, Anne Tyler etc..
I'm loving that I found Cross stitch, I can now return Outlander to my sister & read the original titled book of Gabaldon's when I'm ready
Loving Anne Tyler's A Patchwork Planet atm, almost finished. Highly recommended!

ljuliel Wow, you found some bargains ! 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @ljuliel sure did! Feeling super lucky! I spent about 2 hours choosing and took me 3 trips to the car! After cataloging them last week I've just now squeezed them onto my shelves after they have been blocking my drawers for 2 weeks. Excited! Aaaaannnnd January is coming! My favorite month of the year, it's my chillax in the middle of summer month πŸ˜‰ 2mo
ljuliel I have a question about the big stack of orange books. I can see Courtenay in there . The only one of his I‘ve read is The Power of One , which was terrific. Are there others that go with that book? I know some of his are series type. I have The Potato Factory on Audible. 2mo
See All 10 Comments
ljuliel And sorry for a stupid question, but what is a chillax ? 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @ljuliel the sequel to The Power of One, which I agree with you, is a fantastic read!, is Tandia. And I found that one too! I began TPOO (lol, poo!) over 20 years ago and I've begun again and just over halfway through, I'm taking a break atm though. I cant believe how many I found that day. 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @ljuliel the audiobook of TPOO is terrific too, I've loved the narrator and his South African accent, it really brings the story to life. Oh, and chillax is just a combination of chilling and relaxing! Now you can use it too πŸ˜‰ 2mo
ljuliel That‘s great. I‘m glad you found so many good books. It‘s been a really long time since I‘ve read TPOO myself. Clear back when it came out. I actually do have an audio copy. I‘ve been buying some of my favorite books for audio so I could relisten to them. I‘ll have to start that ! Thanks for telling me about Chillax. I‘m also going to try that too. 😁 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @ljuliel Oh Yeah, now you're going to be chillaxing all over the place, lol! 2mo
Curiouser_and_curiouser @ljuliel with regard to audiobooks, I just borrow them on an app called Borrow Box using my library membership card to sign in. It's all for free. You might have something similar attached to your library? I found a flyer at my local library and a librarian helped me sign up. Thought you would like to know as it doesn't cost you anything 😊 2mo
ljuliel Thank you. I don‘t know if we have that or not. We do have Hoopla. I‘ll check into it. Thanks for the suggestion. Back to my Chillaxing. 😁 2mo

Phew! This was a long one. Overall, I liked the story and found myself very much entranced in some parts. However, there were other parts that were drawn out and all the sex was getting a bit boring. I also didn‘t love the sexism and violence against women. I know this was the sentiment at the time, but still... I didn‘t like it. πŸ˜’ I did find the story entertaining so I‘ll be continuing the series. And, I‘m going to finally start the show!

cathipink I feel like I should pick this one up, as so many love it, but it's not necessarily my thing and it's *so long*. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on the next book! 2mo

At the book club meetings in #NYC yesterday, #2030SomethingLongReadsBookClub members pow-wowed and gave suggestions for our June and August 2020 selections (since that club meets every other month) 😁😎. They chose Outlander and A Game of Thrones with outstanding enthusiasm 😊. They want to do both entire series πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ». Looks like I‘ll finally be getting to two series that have been on my #TBR forever 😌. What do you think of both?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Loved Game of Thrones (wish he‘d finish writing them though), Outlander was a eh for me, though everyone else I know loved it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ 3mo

Outlander: A Novel | Diana Gabaldon

So this stood out to me: on page 831, Jamie told Claire that Randall β€œused me again-hard. And he kept on saying it: β€˜Tell me that you love me, Alex. Say that you love me.‘” So did Randall rape his brother at some point too? Or have an incestuous love for him? Some people think it was Alex MacGregor since he hung himself, but I think it has to mean Alex Randall since Claire thinks back to the genealogical chart and remembers his brothers‘ name.

I first read this book in 1991. I fell in love with James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser and have been hooked on every book Herself (fan nickname for Diana Gabaldon) has written since then. In the down times when waiting for the next book, I re read the entire series.. Sometimes I read just the parts I love most.. Either way it's been an awesome world to be a part of and can't wait to see the next chapter.

Bklover Isn‘t it comforting when you have a series you can go back to again and again?! 5mo
TiffaniK Absolutely and it never gets old. The writing is always so entertaining...just pulls you back into the story. It's like visiting with your family at holidays and telling remember when stories. 5mo

Pickpick

it's one of my favorite books. I liked it so much that I find it difficult to describe it. Fantasy / historical novel set in the 1700s. It is impossible not to fall in love with Jamie and cheer for him until the end. a return to the past with adventures, suspense and romance. I love it so much.
