I liked the disjointed narration of this book, because it gave a better look at the narrator‘s rapidly declining mental health. I‘m probably going to re-read it at some point as a physical book, though, because I think I missed some important elements by listening to the audio version.
Reading this book was like watching athletes warm up, when you‘re really here for a good game. You see the potential, but it‘s just not happening.
I had high hopes for this. There is so much praise for it.
But I just couldn‘t attach to it.
And I have too many other books to read 💁🏻♀️
"I thought of all the hidden spaces: the sewers, the closets, the lightless stomachs and wombs. Warehouses where stock sits silent, the dark interior of a Mickey Mouse costume, the caves of hibernating bears. I imagined the great diffuse blandness of these spaces, soft and dark like a concussion, and I closed my eyes and rolled myself over into the dim center of sleep."
"We had both gotten so used to me being stronger, reasonable, and having the resources to yield that I yielded by default, the idea of my own strength making me the weaker one."
Weird and experimental. While I appreciate the layers to this novel, I didn't really enjoy it very much. I think having a post read discussion with someone who has also read it would improve the overall experience, for this reason it would probably make a good book club pick.
I enjoyed the idea of consumption; what we choose to consume and allow to consume us. This book is heavy on metaphor and takes a satirical look at modern western culture.
I got to choose some books for the staff picks table at the library! Decided to drop some weird stuff.
I enjoyed this book. I think it goes off the rails and gets a bit to broad even for satire in the last third, but I will give Ms Kleeman‘s next book a read. She has a unique voice and is sometimes too funny for her own good, but I‘d recommend this book.
Today I was overcome with the immediate need to drop everything and read this book again. It‘s my favorite book of 2015, just an absolutely brilliant, bananapants novel. I could talk about it until your faces melted off, because I love it with the heat of a thousand suns. Ain‘t reading grand? 🧡💛💙
This book completely blew me away. If you want something strange and wonderful definitely pick this up.
These little smilies to split the book into sections become more unnerving as it goes on. O.o
Those 95 highlighters we‘re right. That‘s a great quote.
I‘m reading five books right now and they‘re all blue. (The tagged book is electronic but has a blue cover and Beartown expired from the library so I have to wait to get it back.)
I‘m in charge of three teenage boys tonight, so wine seems to be in order.
Was really enjoying this at the beginning but felt like it lost its way by the end
This book is soooooo weird and creepy!!!! Holy moly.
Starting a new book. Also a Tim Tam.
I can't believe that Christmas Eve is on Sunday. I don't feel ready for it yet. How about you??
It's not a super-easy read... and that's fine, but we could have reached the same point in about half the time. Once you forgo plot and you're more about satirizing consumerism, religion, the patriarchy and so forth, I'm not sure you need quite as many pages retelling the same things. I just felt that less, might have been more... which may have been part of the satire on unnecessary consumption, but is more likely to have just been poor editing.
This book is oddly compelling. I think I love it....but I might actually not like it at all. But I think I really like it;)
Alexandra Kleeman's writing is on point. I can see finding a lot of quotable passages in this gem.
Sunday reading
Alexandra Keleeman‘s satire is a bold statement on modern life. She tackles consumerism, conformity, and the importance of the individual in an over-marketed world. What follows is an examination of the self, or lack of self, in an overly consumptive society.

Definitely not getting anywhere close to 24 hours in @24in48 #readathon. But finally getting through my library books is something!
Really, really enjoyed this postmodern piece by Alexandra Kleeman. It exudes intelligence, and the social commentary had me laughing but also profoundly bummed at America's obsession with consumption. A must-read.

Finished this book on audio this morning at work, and I'm not sure what to say about it. It's weird. I don't think I get it, but I liked it. It kept me intrigued and I wanted to keep listening. #24in48readathon #24in48
Quirky read, just the way I like it! Follow A, her roommate B, and boyfriend C through their strange world of disappearing dads, Kandy Kakes, and That's My Partner game show. Would recommend to fans of The Beautiful Bureaucrat and Binary Star. 😍🙌 #litsyatoz #title
My morning read is quirky just the way I like it! My reading companion is sleeping just the way she likes it! 😻📚
Reading challenges for 2017 planned! Or, at least a roadmap to what I plan to accomplish. Changes may, and probably will, happen. Most I either own, or have been on my TBR list for too long. Tomorrow we just need to input the A to Z in the form.

Happy Friday, Littens! 💕
With nothing planned at work today, I am going to see if I can work on the #LitsyAtoZ reading challenge, and maybe a few others. With no access to the Internet, Goodreads, or Litsy. Purely on memory, this might be a challenge itself. Wish me luck!
Any suggestions for X would be great (I'm considering an X-men comic, and not really feeling X by Sue Grafton). ✖️

I'm pretty sure that A & B would approve of this scene!

found out my work .mil email got me access to the air force library on OverDrive. Very exciting. I knew I worked for a reason.
I'm not sure if I loved this or hated this.... I do know I am craving an orange and a ho-ho.
Reading in bed after a long day is so soothing. Also, I have been having a hard time sticking to one book lately and really need to find the one to break the pattern. Here's to this being it!
My October book haul! I definitely got caught up in the sales on Book Outlet this month...super excited to read all of these! #bookhaul
Bought this today while checking out the local independent bookstore. Loved Carmichael's! What a great little gem! #getindie #louisville #carmichaels
Finished this two days ago but haven't had time to review. @LBApple and I bought copies at #BKBF - we were intrigued by Vogue's declaration that it's "Fight Club for girls." I take issue with the "for girls" part, but wish I hadn't seen the blurb because it influenced my expectations of the novel. I still enjoyed it (a lot), but I kept looking for links to FC. Overall, brilliant work of hysterical realism about identity in a consumerist culture.
Settling into bed in one of my favorite comfy (and literary) shirts and my book. #SheWhoReads #NoSleepTilBookless
Pre-gym Pineapple Mango protein shake and reading. Love that my shake kinda matches my book! #KateDFisherCuisine
Totally revamping the bookshelves today and honestly this little guy is hurting more than he's helping. His book stack hurdling is pretty cute, though.
I spent so much time trying to figure out why I needed all of the crazy new features in iOS 10 that I didn't realize how late it had gotten. Finally, in bed with my book, the ideal ending to any given day.
I got to sleep late this morning and now I get to enjoy some peace, quiet, coffee, and reading in my pajamas. It's going to be a great day.
"Any piece of time is lonely and pale in isolation, and moments resemble other moments, so that sometimes you feel that you are a memory being called to mind by someone else."
Having a late lunch with my book at one of my favorite places in New York, Cafe Lalo, which is where they shot the scene in You've Got Mail in which Tom Hanks goes to meet his e-penpal and finds out she's Meg Ryan.
