Despite my best attempts to lean in to the drama, when I found myself randomly reopening social media instead of reading this book, I realized I was bored.

The excessively dramatic writing has me a bit skeptical, but it‘s SO over-the-top that it has to be on purpose (the school is CALLED RoseBlood?!), so I‘m trying to lean in to the drama. It is more fun this way!
I‘m giving this a pick ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 because I enjoyed the effort she made in doing a Phantom retelling. Yes sometimes it fell flat but I admire her attempt. I was drawn into the story at first but it did have a slow part near the middle that could have people putting the book down. #readingchallenge2022
This book. So beautiful yet tragic. I love The Phantom of the Opera and this? This is another Phantom in the making. Another poor soul, stripped of the love and kindness he's supposed to receive.
I know the quote is long but I just love this passage so much. Continue in comments.
"Today, you become someone new. From this moment on, you belong to the underworld, from which you were born. You are something monstrous, but beautiful.
I try to give all my Owlcrate books a fair chance and completely read them, but I struggled with this one. The premise sounded promising, but the writing dragged, both in page count and in scenes.
I usually like supernatural elements in books, but this one was just all over the place and left me frustrated.
I hate not finishing a book but after 65% of the way through i had to give up. I really tried. It‘s not good, the characters, the story, the idea…..nope.
What are you reading right now??? These are my two. one audio for when I‘m working and one to read before bed lol.
Hello June! It‘s not the best start to the month but here‘s what I read last month.
37 books total. Books are my escape.
* 19 audiobooks
* 13 TBR books
* 24 library books
* 7 graphic novels
* 6 ebooks
How was your May? I‘ll post my June TBR soon it‘s a weird mix of pride and random books. I‘ll post my other audiobooks and ebooks read soon too. ❤️hope everyone is staying safe.
Just finished this one and really loved the twist on the Phantom story. Makes me want to watch the musical again soon. I love the author‘s style and the twist she took on it. Had some help with snuggles after a long walk on a muggy day to finish this one off. #dogsoflitsy
I had to pick up a few things at Ollie's today so I did a quick sweep of the book section. These will all be redistributed to a couple of my book club students who love to read but dont have parents who can afford books. One emailed me last week about how much she missed the library because she'd read all her books at home 😥😥😥😥😥
I am so excited because while exploring my favorite place (half priced books outlet) I was able to find not only a book I was looking for for awhile, but signed by the author no less! I love retellings, so this should be fun :)
I started this but was not in the mood to read it.
But what I read was about dancing. So #cabaret

Remember the book I did a review while back? Btw thank you for the lovely book, @Gissy ! There are mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. Roseblood is on sale for 1.99. The links are at my review. http://quirkybookwormalways.blogspot.com/2018/10/i-read-this-lovely-book-back-in...
4 Stars....*sighs dreamily* Wonderful story. Mystery upon mystery. Layers of them and yet so haunting. Perfect for YA.
1. Just finished Serpentine while waiting to get x-rayed on spine and pelvis.
2. I‘m in a daze due to long over due rain. (Severe drought here)
3. Started this beautiful book with beautiful pages.
4. I‘m curled up in my bed looking out from my window watching, hearing, and smelling the rain!
Can you say perfect Friday? ❤️😍😍
I‘m late to the party I know but this very cool tag, especially since I do love a good YA (other than contemporary, sorry, angsty teens at least need a dragon or 10) & I just must!! It‘s a paranormal tag this week so RoseBlood; that I have started and put down distractedly a few times, fits the bill. Possibly more gothic than paranormal but I do love this edition so let‘s just go with it! 😊😊😊 #YAWednesday
I. The original Phantom on the Opera the Phantom is #hopelessly devoted to Christine. I wonder if that's the same in this book. Maybe I should get around to reading it. #juneitselectrifying @Cinfhen @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I loved A.G. Howard's Splintered series so I cannot wait to start this! #bookish #retelling
Admittedly, the vanity red ink didn't get me started on the right foot with this one, but I really did want to give it a chance as the narrator's voice and situation (American girl starting at European boarding school) put me in mind of the Shades of London series. BUT the whole set-up is unignorably silly. Rune suffers from an embarrassing singing "compulsion", there's mentions of auras and chakras (lol), and my patience, frankly, has run out! ?
So I'm finding this hard to capture on camera, but if the above text looks vaguely reddish, that is because it IS!!! I don't know WHO at the publisher's thought this was a good idea and signed off on it, but the entire book is printed in red ink!!! WHY????? This is driving me and my eyeballs nuts! 👀 😵🙅
Book 21 of my year is this one. It is so beautiful, the text is written in red, the pages and cover is so elegant, and can I just say the book smells like a little slice of heaven. I am in love with the cover artwork and the overall pleasantness of this book. It‘s easily one of the most gorgeous books I have in my collection. Must. Get. More. From. This. Author. ASAP.
Seventeen year old Rune has a mysterious affliction with her operatic talents and a mistake that she is trying to leave behind in the States. Hoping to get a handle on her “special” musical talents, Rune‘s mother decides to send her to a French arts conservatory, located in the house that has ties to the Phantom of the Opera. At Roseblood, Rune befriends an elusive violinist, Thorn, who helps guide her musical transformation through her dreams.✨🔮
Doing a little audio cleaning and laundry on this dreary day. Trying to get as much as I can done before I head off to see Black Panther!

Post a cover that you love. No explanations. #3. #7days7bookcovers
Showing the inside too - so beautifully designed.
Working from home on this rainy day, listening to Roseblood 🥀 I look out of my back door to see a family of doves sleeping in the rain. I want to give them all tiny umbrellas ☔️
I was so excited to read this book. I started reading it and loved it but then it just kind of flattened out. Like it the storyline got stuck to me. It so sad cause I was so excited.
I am planning on reading at least one book from this shelf in Nov, but can‘t decide which one!
Suggestions? Other than The Hate U Give, and Eliza and Her Monsters, which I have already read.
Also...using my new iPhone X camera for the first time! Woohoo!! This post may have been been an excuse to take a picture. 😂 #Shelfie
A Phantom is a #👻 right? #uncannyoctober
I have seriously been so bad about posting things. This is my October TBR!

I have a few posts about this book and all I have to say is that it's Wonderful!
I tried to give this book a fair chance; I went into it excited and with an open mind. I am a huge fan of The Phantom of the Opera, so I was looking forward to a modern retelling. That is not what I got. The book is poorly written, the protagonist is a complete Mary-Sue, and the plot is majorly lacking. Also, AG Howard likes books with colored print, and this book was no different. The red print gave me headaches, and made reading it a chore.
Not quite sure if I'm in a reading slump or if I just keep picking the wrong books. I'm currently trying to read Roseblood but its not holding my attention. I was having the same issue with Crooked Kingdom too.
The book often veered into melodrama–which, given the story, could have been really fitting, but instead was so over-the-top it pulled me out. The parts of the story told from Thorn‘s point of view were the most ridiculous. The story would have been served better if we had experienced the mystery along with Rune, instead of knowing so much about Thorne and the Phantom.

When your partner is traveling places with genres you can't access easily in India on short notice and takes a "get yourself out of trouble" wishlist VERY seriously ....and then the kitty tries to claim your books!!! #bookhaul #catsoflitsy #litsykitty
Guys this book! Not gonna lie took me a bit to get into but then I just devoured it! I don't know if it's because I love the phantom of the opera but the premise is really intriguing and I really liked the characters. Plus the amount of sensory detail with colors and scents is just great!
Beginning: couldn't put it down
Middle: pretty good then bad then just eye roll inducing
End: anticlimactic then just plain stupid
This really took me forever to read. And I'm heartbroken it wasn't good because I truly was so excited about this book. And omg it's so beautiful 😭

It's not often that I give books 5- star ratings, but I loved this retelling of The Phantom is the Opera! It was so perfect, it read like a continuation of the original story. If you haven't read the original, that's okay. The author gives you enough background details for the story to make sense. It put me in the mood to read more macabre.

RoseBlood is no where near as good as I was expecting. The summary made it one of my most anticipated reads, but sadly it is too basic for me. The idea of it and the vibe are on point, but there is too much in the plot that I've seen way too many times. For example the no cell phone reception, the teenage girl with power or whatever she can't control, the clique of mean girls, and etc. By about halfway through I was just bored by the whole thing.
2.5/5 🌟
I was incredibly disappointed with this book .... there were some super specific reasons why I didn't like it, one of them was the insta love. I found it slightly creepy in this case. The other reason I won't give due to spoilers but I mentioned it on goodreads if you want to read that review. Feel free to add me on goodreads too (Nicole Alycia)
