Big Fish
Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions | Daniel Wallace
In his prime, Edward Bloom was an extraordinary man. He could outrun anybody. He never missed a day of school. He saved lives and tamed giants. Animals loved him, people loved him, women loved him. He knew more jokes than any man alive. At least thats what he told his son, William. But now Edward Bloom is dying, and William wants desperately to know the truth about his elusive fatherthis indefatigable teller of tall talesbefore its too late. So, using the few facts he knows, William re-creates Edwards life in a series of legends and myths, through which he begins to understand his fathers great feats, and his great failings. The result is hilarious and wrenching, tender and outrageous.

4/5 for this one. I enjoyed this book. The relationship between a father and son is so complex. This was an interesting look into one. I have seen the movie also and enjoyed it too.

This was a pleasant quick read, but I must say the movie was much better.

2/5⭐ A fantastic idea buried in sub-par writing. I only recognized the thematic connective tissue because I'd seen the movie.

The stories are mostly bland, told in unconnected vignettes. The book tells Edward's stories through his son's eyes, distancing the reader from how Edward portrays himself.

The book also includes a lot of unnecessary detail that buries the main idea to almost invisibility.

Just watch the movie for this one.

The movie 'Big Fish' is one of my favorites, and I might say that I liked it better than the book. However, I really loved this book and the story Itself is irreplaceable to me, it's just that special.

Wasn‘t the biggest fan of this one, and I got really confused near the end. Overall kept my attention because during certain scenes I had to read sentences over to make sure I was reading them correct cause they were strange. Many allusions to mythology which I enjoyed but overall was not a fan of the plot.
