The Rules of Magic | 
so-soI really didn't like this installment. Mainly, the book follows the aunts from Practical Magic throughout their lives, their loves and losses, etc., though I personally don't really feel compelled by any of their past actions, I think the overall story would have been fine if they were simply the eccentric aunts that we don't know anything about, which is the appeal of them as characters.

Doppoetry The aunts also had a brother who always drew women to him, ever since he was a baby, and a nurse even kidnapped him, but it's brushed off for laughs. This happens to the point where a much older woman seduces him (he is 15 at this point), and it isn't really handled with any gravity or much thought, and then later on, the woman is violently killed off-screen, which also didn't sit well with me. I think these topics should be handled with much care 2w
Doppoetry We later on just learn that the brother is actually gay and didn't care for women because of that. And the way it was revealed was kind of shitty. I am not a gay man, so I cannot speak on the subject, but surely you would know you're gay far earlier than your 20s. And don't continue ot sleep with women and treat them like disposable garbage. It's... a bit strange to me. 2w
Doppoetry The way the brother also “gets rid“ of his curse just feels like a load of bullshit. Surely just by changing the Owens identity, everything will be fixed, and none of the story would actually happen. Why do the women have to continually suffer while this asshat gets to fuck off to Paris and live a peaceful life? This isn't the first book in which the women are treated like absolute garbage. I get it's also because of the time period, but still. 2w
Doppoetry I also get that these sisters are messy, but the way one of them is handled also makes me angry. She broke up with a guy she liked and then came back years later, doesn't let him move on, plays with him some more, ruins his wedding, and then gets to live out her life, guilt-free, while making him feel guilty for moving on constantly, and that's also brushed off as a joke. 2w
