Alice Hoffman does it agin! This haunting and tender love story showcases Hoffman‘s talents at their best. The story is unusual but based on true events. An incredible and engrossing read.

I keep trying to like Hoffman‘s writing more, but I‘m just not a fan of the structure here and the switching perspectives from two first person POVs to third person... And the characters themselves aren‘t very realistic to me... the historical setting is interesting but the sideshow/human oddities didn‘t feel all that fresh... but the audio is performed well and I enjoyed it for some fun #AudioColoring!
I am a sucker for any kind of circus/carnival/side show type story but throw in #mermaids and I‘m in heaven! Shocked to see this book got crappy reviews on Litsy- I really enjoyed this one and gave it 4 ⭐️. However, seeing as how I live in a mermaid house, I may be a little biased lol 🤷♀️

A story of star-crossed lovers, living in New York in 1911, that I still haven‘t read yet!! 🙄 and a giant pine cone! 👍🏻 #AFairytaleOfNewYork #winterwonderland
#firstsnowonbrooklyn made me homesick. Images of my High School- (FK Lane HS)3 halls in Brooklyn, One in Queens. Cypress Hills Cemetery has an entrance in Brooklyn and Queens, surrounded two sides of my HS and is where Harry Houdini is buried. #winterwonderland
After reading The Dovekeepers I had high hopes for this book yet I‘ve been left feeling somewhat disappointed. The writing is really nice but I feel the story is rather thin: each chapter is so long yet so little seems to happen. The historical side of this book - based on fact - is quite interesting but I couldn‘t buy into the mystical element of the story, it simply wasn‘t to my taste. ⭐️⭐️
Next up, I purchased this book over a year ago. Time it was read 📚
Finished my first audiobook. I really enjoyed this story. Loved the characters and the writing. Alice Hoffman has never let me down.
Do you think you retain any of the story #audiosleeping? Lol. I think I was on chapter three, woke up on chapter 6 😦
Cool this website gives you suggestions based on favourite oils or authors. Will have to keep this handy. https://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/isbn/1451693567
Road tripping home with my kiddos in t-30 minutes for Thanksgiving weekend at my parents. They get the DVD player so I am going to audio drive with This one.
What an amazing box of goodies! Thank you so much @SkeletonKey for all of the wonderful gifts in the last box for #novelteabookclub. My family laughed when I gasped in delight...over sugar. 😂😂 I LOVE lavender in food! The tea bag buddy looks awesome, and all the teas look so yummy!! And the tote!!
I hope you don‘t mind if I share this, but Kay is an incredible artist, you should definitely check out their website: theskeletonkeystudio.com.
Trying to get back into some kind of schedule, really enjoying reading this pick for the #tealoverspostalclub #tealoversclub #novelteabookclub

Trying to get back on track after a really crazy month. Things are starting to calm down though.
Still need to start on our #tealoversbookclub pick, so that will be next.

My 1st Hoffman book & certainly will not be my last one! Albeit a slow burn story, I enjoyed this book immensely:
✔ Beautiful & lustrous prose
✔ Character driven story
✔ Circus/oddities themed story with great descriptive writing
✔ Quotable book
❌ Good but not great plot
❌ Italic font used for 1st person narration is harsh for the eyes!
Rating: 4🌟

Settled into one of the library‘s 2 comfy chairs for the next hour and a half. Wasting time while the boys are at VBS. Seems like a good use of my time. 😊
These are the books I bought at the Strand and had shipped home. It will be so fun getting the package back home.
Love this quote! ???
"The human eye was not capable of true sight, for it was constrained by its own humanness, clouded by regret, and opinion, and faith. Whatever was witnessed in the real world was unknowable in real time. It was the eye of the camera that captured the world as it truly was."

Thanks so much, @cobwebmoth !! This was great to receive after a stressful week. I love everything you chose for this box, builders tea will remind me of England and I can‘t wait to try the spice tea.
This book has been on my to-read list for a long while too so I‘m excited to start it soon.

I read it in two days, so hopefully my slump has ended! I really enjoyed this book. It's my first Hoffman, but not my last. I've always been drawn to characters that are outcasts. I found the writing atmospheric. It will be on its way to you soon @SkeletonKey .

I'm actually making good progress on the tagged book, and enjoying it. But my depression is demanding that I pause and wallow in this treat for a moment.🍧😩😜😢
#FoodimentaryWatson is a great way to start a Friday! @MaleficentBookDragon Thank you for the goodies! Chocolate covered potato chips - YUM. Too bad I already did my #bookmarks photo or I could‘ve added these. Thank you! I hope you like your goodies as well. ⭐️💛📚👍🏼 #litsyswaps @wordslinger42 thanks for putting this together.
I listened to the audio and there are three narrators: Coralie, Eddie, and a generic narrator (voiced by Judith Light). Of the story itself, only Coralie‘s story interested me. (Which is why I have said next to nothing about Eddie in my summary, as I can‘t tell you much more, as my mind wandered during his parts.) Cont in comments...
May stats. 5 books. 3 were book club books. I enjoyed them all with a few notable problems in The Loch and All Our Wrong Todays. All in all, a good reading month.
Ready for book club.
Leftover Chinese food and a few stolen pages at my desk.
Arggghhh. This is especially annoying since the two books I read before this one had a lot of sexism in them.
I need to go watch Wonder Woman. Like NOW.
@JenlovesJT47 You are spoiling me with all of these tea selections! And you know how much I love Deadpool.😁 Thank you so much!❤

Starting the #8intwo #readathon at LaVeggio with a tasty mocha. #bookandcoffee
For this weekend‘s #8intwo #readathon I‘ll be reading this book for Thursday‘s Books and Beans Book Club (we meet in a different coffee shop near Binghamton NY each month).
This book is worth reading but very slow moving. I also didn‘t like how every other chapter was in italics. It took me out of the story. Still, lots to learn here about the history of New York in 1911. 3.5 ⭐️
Getting ready to dive into this for the #novelteabookclub - this has been on my TBR for awhile now! Jace approves. 👍🏻
I'm sort of mirroring my #FreakyFriday twin. @Penguininflight has injured her back and is laid up. I've been sick all week with bronchitis. ?
While Bev is busy Litsy-ing, I'm not able to focus, so not much reading for me, and no Litsy. (At least I didn't suffer on Tuesday while you all were having Litsy withdrawals.)
Anyway, finished "The Museum of Extraordinary Things" early in the week and enjoyed it immensely.
@Clwojick
@monalyisha
Received these awesome goodies last night from @4thhouseontheleft for the first month of our #novelteabookclub ! I wish you guys could smell how great this whole box smells! Can't wait to try the awesome teas (I love creme brûlée!), and the bunny tea infuser is adorable! I've also always wanted to try Stroopwafels ?- thank you so much for everything, I love it! The book also looks great! ☺️Not pictured: a caramel yummy that is currently ?
No snow day here. 😃 🌴 ☀️
Sympathies to all the Littens suffering through yet another snowstorm today! (Unless you like that sort of thing, then enjoy!) Here‘s some Florida sunshine I am sending your way. ☺️

I lived in Brooklyn most of my adult life and hanging out in Coney Island was always an adventure! #emojimadness @Tiffy_Reads @JoeStalksBeck
It‘s Saturday afternoon. It‘s snowing. There‘s no chance I‘m going outside anymore today. Time to finish this novel and move on to the next. 😍 #SnowDay #SheDevoursBooks #BookMonster
What do you do when the heater is broken? Curl up under three blankets with a book while the repairman tries to fix it! #IHateWinter
Hour 12 Challenge: Best First Lines
“You would think it would be impossible to find anything new in the world, creatures no man has ever seen before, one-of-a-kind oddities in which nature has taken a backseat to the coursing pulse of the fantastical and the marvelous.”
Starting this one next, and I‘m looking forward to Alice Hoffman‘s prose. It‘s always so beautiful. #24in48
Finished my last book of 2017. Reading target smashed, it's been an excellent year in books https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2017
1. My literary tastes vary, I love almost anything. I however cannot put a book down even if I don't like it.
2. A few of my favorites would be Lois Lowry, J.R.R Tolkein, J.K. Rowling, Harper Lee, Cynthis Voight, Mildred D. Taylor, and Richard Wright
3. I hate over exaggerated romance
4. I want to read more historical fiction
5. Toss between The Museum of Extraordinary Things and The Regan Diaries.
6. @taylorbundy
I‘m not sure where I found this image but I think it sums me up so perfectly. I love choosing to be alone; usually with a good book and a cup of tea... but I truly hate the heartbreak of loneliness
"She had come to believe that if her father had wanted a docile daughter, he should never have allowed her access to the ocean. It was here she found a strength that often surprised her."
