Some of these stories I‘ve read elsewhere— a few are also in Fragile Things (which I read a few years ago). My favorite, which is in both collections, is “How to Talk to Girls at Parties “. What a mind trip that one is!

#authoramonth

erzascarletbookgasm I read that story in Fragile Things recently. Cool story. 3w
Soubhiville I hadn‘t heard of this collection before 😊. Logged 📚 3w

I realized that I could use my Bookbeat license to clean up my book shelfs. These are the ones I found from Bookbeat in audio form. I plan to listen to them and then decide whether I'd like to keep them or give them away. 😊

I love everything Neil, but his short stories are one of the things he does best, in my opinion. My particular favorites were The Price and October in the Chair. Some of these stories were featured in other collections, but I enjoyed them all over again. My very own Black Cat obliged me with a photo for this review. 🖤😻🖤 #Lennox #catsoflitsy

Two of the books I got from the library today. Actually those are for my nephew to read, but I want to read those too! My husband cheekily snagged the Gaiman book already 😆

While I had heard some of the stories before, and not ALL of them were fully my cup of tea, it was still wonderful to have Neil Gaiman tell me stories while I did chores. He‘s as wonderful a narrator as he is writer.

As usual my mind is blown away by Gaiman‘s ability to craft short stories. This collection is considered a children‘s book, but I could just as easily have seen it aimed at adults and no one being any the wiser. If you already love Gaiman‘s work this is a solid collection that will remind you why. However, if you have never been exposed to it then let this be your gateway in. Either way you will not be disappointed.

I needed a break from wildwood, it was really starting to annoy me... short stories by Neil Gaiman are just what the doctor ordered.

“M is for magic. All the letters are, if you put them together properly. You can make magic with them, and dreams, and, I hope, even a few surprises..” Gaiman.
This is a fine collection of imaginative tales from the master of fantasy. 🖤

#Fantasy gets into your bones. There‘s a curve in a road I sometimes pass, a view of a village on rolling green hills, and, behind it, huger, craggier, grayer hills and, in the distance, mountains and mist, that I cannot see without remembering reading The Lord of the Rings. The book is somewhere inside me, and that view brings it to the surface.”

After reading this book - I always read the introduction.

#candy for #SpookyOctober ! We‘ve already drained this bowl a couple of times...will need a restock before the big day. And probably one or two more. 🎃Snickers and Reese‘s pumpkins are two of our faves. So is Neil Gaiman. 💕👻💕

Somewhere between pick and so-so depending on the story. "October in a Chair" was beautiful.

I'm surprised these are considered children's stories. I would probably recommend them for young adults, at youngest.

What audiobook to read next?

I think going forward I will only listen to the audiobook of Neil Gaiman's stories. His narration is THAT GOOD. Some authors are such wonderful storytellers that their voices enrich the words on the page. E.B. White is another such storyteller.

I'm also intrigued to read Ray Bradbury's books "R Is For Rocket" and "S Is For Space" from which Gaiman borrowed this title.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Being a completist I borrowed this from a friend to read How to Sell the Ponti Bridge, which is the only story not in one of his other collections. 3y

KCorter @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I just started Smoke and Mirrors today and a few of the stories in M is for Magic seemed to be collected there as well. I didn't realize that when I started the book, but I think the stories in this collection complemented each other well. 3y
KCorter @TobeyTheScavengerMonk How did you like How to Sell the Ponti Bridge? It reminded me of the the storytelling during the reality storm in Sandman Vol. 8. 3y

"His beard was all colors, a grove of trees in autumn, deep brown and fire orange and wine red, an untrimmed tangle across the lower half of his face. His cheeks were apple red. He looked like a friend; like someone you had known all your life."

If I ever imagined October as a person, this would be him!

I chose this book for my #2017readingchallenge as a book with a cat on the cover. It's intended for younger audiences but Neil Gaiman has a way of creeping out adults just as easily! I am loving it so far. I've always enjoyed Neil's books and he's proving to me that there's nothing he can't do. #2017popsugarreadingchallenge

I just got this kids short story collection from the library. Narrated by Gaiman himself. My son loved him narrating fortunately the milk and Coraline, so I think this will be another hit 📚😻

Odd mix here. This Neil Gaiman book appears to be for younger readers in the 7-9 age-group and I remember selling this at a bookshop I used to work in that age category. Yet the short stories range from 'drinking hooch' and 'cleaning my automatic' to other such activities more suited to 10-12+. Maybe I'm being troublesome. The book doesn't know what age group it's for.

rubyslippersreads At least it has a great cover (though that does look like a children's book). 3y
JonathanDunne @rubyslippersreads my sentiments entirely 3y
readinginthedark We had to move several books to different sections because of content and touchy parents where I used to work. I had one woman tell me her daughter was into vampire books and read at the YA level, but she wanted something for her in middle grade with no violence or romance. 3y
