From New York Times bestselling author Neal Shusterman comes the thrilling conclusion to the Printz Honor-winning series Arc of a Scythe. It's been three years since Rowan and Citra disappeared; since Scythe Goddard came into power; since the Thunderhead closed itself off to everyone but Grayson Tolliver. In this pulse-pounding conclusion to New York Times bestselling author Neal Shusterman's Arc of a Scythe trilogy, constitutions are tested and old friends are brought back from the dead.

There‘s A LOT going on in this book… almost a little too much to keep track of what‘s going on. But the ending was quite the surprise and I‘m still very impressed with this series!

Okay so I‘m a little blown away I really enjoyed reading this as it gives you a better understanding of why the first two were written in that way… I didn‘t like some characters and how they were in relationships to the plot… but good books always has characters you don‘t like mixed with the characters you really love and are rooting for… this will definitely go in my trophy library 📚

Started the last book of this series this weekend. I‘ve really enjoyed the world he created and I‘m very excited to see how this ends. The weather today however, decided that it was a movie/crafting kind of day 😆. #lifelately #crossstitchingbooks #rainydaylove #booksallaround

Not quite as compelling as the first two books, but a worthy end to the trilogy. The Toll is a less likeable character than Citra, Rowan and Faraday (possibly my favourite) and as others have said this dragged a little. But I do believe the series and the questions it raises about mortality and who should choose who lives and dies will remain with me for some time.

This one was a bit of a let down for me. I expected a more powerful and exciting conclusion to the series. I did love the writing, character development and world building as I usually do with Shusterman, but the plot and pacing left much to be wanted. It was more like 2.5 stars for me but I can't bear to give Shusterman 2 stars so I rounded up to 3.

Excellent end to the 3-book series. The world order is crumbling with the dictatorial Scythe Goddard poised to rule all. Rowan has been turned into a scapegoat and Anastasia is trying to stay alive and expose the truth while Scythe Faraday searches for the world‘s “reset button” and Greyson uses his ability to communicate with the Thunderhead to try to save humanity. https://cannonballread.com/2023/03/the-toll-arc-of-a-scythe-book-3-elcicco/

A fitting end to the trilogy. I didn‘t enjoy this quite as much as the first 2 books because this one spent more time with less likable characters, and a few of the structural choices that I think were intended to provide suspense and mystery didn‘t really work for me, but still a good read. #MarvellousMarch @Andrew65

Oh my GOSH. There‘s so much going on, yet when the different plot lines converge they mold perfectly. Practically speechless. First half was slower, the build up was glorious. I didn‘t see the ending coming, came out of nowhere. It fit perfectly with the way the world was going though. This was the best way to save humanity. I felt so heartbroken over Faraday.
Spectacular series on the question; does being immortal make a better world?

Wow. Quite an ending to the series! I love how all the story lines come together in the end and I especially love the ending Shusterman gives to Citra and Rowan. He brings up many interesting questions about the nature of humanity and our ability to destroy not only each other but the world we have built. And also about how much we rely on technology. I will def think differently anytime I ask ‘Siri‘ something 😂 #seriesread2022 @TheSpineView

The worldbuilding was more in-depth in this book and it made this a slow read for me—to the point I almost got tired of reading and just wanted it to end. Still, it was a good one.

Not sure how to feel about that ending, though. I mean, I'm happy some died and some are alive. Guess I just didn't expect it to make that turn towards the end. Kinda felt rushed even though it was a long book? Yeah.

Glad to know there will be short stories soon!

"Why do you hate me so?" she asked.

"I don't hate you," he admitted. "It's just that you're always so sure of yourself."

#BookReport I really liked the Scythe trilogy although The Toll was a bit long. The Silence of the Girls was good as well and the romances and cozy mystery is what my taxed brain can handle.

#WeeklyForecast: I‘m enjoying both current books and also started Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. Will visit part 5 of Obama later in the month.

In the corruption of the Scythedom; Citra, and Rowan fight the problems head on trying to fix what went wrong. Meanwhile a new influence the Toll is the only person who can talk to the Thunderhead, also making him the giver of advice to everyone. On the island no one new existed works Scythe Faraday to unlock the secrets left by the founders. If you find this book appealing you may also like the Supernova trilogy by Marissa Myers.

Kevin.Erick The point of view is first person and is clearly established as the novel progresses as each character shares their experiences and thoughts as they focus on each task at hand, hoping to better earth by the time they finish. 3y

By shifting the focus to multiple lead characters, this series finale takes the story a welcomely unexpected conclusion, while keeping the death count just as high.

The third in the Scythe trilogy. Reading it on a tablet - had the strangest experience. I had about 100 pages to go and suddenly…it was over! I was so entranced that I didn‘t realize how much I had read. The world building and plot twists were incredibly creative. Reminded me of how films like Mad Max and the show The Leftovers totally expanded the scope of the story and new characters. Great series!

DogMomIrene 💜💜💜 Shusterman‘s world building and characters keep my head swirling as I read, which I love. 3y

This was another great entry into the Arc of the Scythe series. Overall I think Greyson and the Thunderhead really came into there own and where a big part of why I enjoy the book. I only have one big problem with it and that that‘s the fact the Rowan and Citra aren‘t given a large role in the overall story. Other then that I did enjoy this as the conclusion to the Arc of the Scythe series overall

Definitely one the best trilogies Ive read in forever! Excellent world-building, meticulously plotted with well developed characters. All three were equally well done.

I do think the last book was a bit overlong and could have used some trimming, but was happy to be in it as long as I could.

I can‘t recommend this one enough.

Shusterman is such a brilliant storyteller, how he‘s able to weave many characters‘ lives together. I want to give this book five stars for it‘s absolute brilliance. However, I have to knock a star out.

Mostly because I felt that this book had just too much to fit in. I think the storyline would have fit better over a longer series. The first two books span about a year, and then around four years take place in the third book.

I wanted to give it a 4 star but decided not to intellectualise the story too much. Suffice to say that the book kept me hooked till the end and the conclusion although a bit too extreme was alright. It didn‘t leave me heartbroken.. all‘s well that ends well! One tiny issue, I think thunderhead in fact used the world and it‘s people as its sandbox to play around with! It‘s a coloniser and eventually, mortality had the last laugh on earth.

This was kind of all over the map. There were a lot of threads to pull together, and the effort to do so was a bit clumsy. The pacing was uneven, and early on there was some confusing switching between timelines. Events were cranked up to 11, the ending felt rushed, and I kept thinking this would have been better as two books. That said, this book & the series as a whole brings up some fascinating ideas. It made for a great book group discussion!

I‘m almost as much of a music lover as a book lover. I often come across “theme songs” that fit characters so perfectly you‘d swear the musician wrote it FOR the book. Driving home today I heard a song I have now dubbed Rowan and Citra‘s theme. It‘s Hear Me Now by the band Bad Wolves. Here‘s the link to the version I like best, but there is another good one with female vocals added. https://youtu.be/du0SsoGpn7w
❤️Does anyone else do this?😅

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Cool song! I think the last time I did this was assigning early Lana Del Ray to be soundtrack to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Thanks, I love the band. They did a cover of Zombie by The Cranberries that I love almost more than the original. ❤️🥰❤️ I‘ll have to remember your music/book pairing, the book is on my TBR. 🎶 4y

Omg...there aren‘t words! I finished it last night and am STILL processing it all. Hands down the best YA trilogy I have ever been blessed to read. Coming from someone who doesn‘t normally enjoy YA, trust me, that‘s a HUGE compliment! There were a few slow parts in this final installment, but I find many final books in a series have moments like that. The author had a lot of strings to tie at the end and boy, what a neat bow it made! ⬇️

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm This would be one of the few series where I wouldn‘t be mad for a follow-up and will definitely do a reread someday. Thank you a gazillion times to @Bits introducing me to the series through #NewYearWhoDis hosted by @monalyisha 4y
