Stitches and Witches: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery | Nancy Warren
29 posts | 19 read | 8 to read
Dropping stitches and catching killersWhen an older gentleman keels over in his scones and tea at the Elderflower Tea Shop in Oxford-a victim of poison-Lucy Swift and her band of undead amateur detectives are on the case.Elderflower Tea Shop is next door to Cardinal Woolsey's, the yarn shop Lucy runs and home to the late-night Vampire Knitting Club. The tea shop owners are a pair of octogenarian spinsters and old family friends, so Lucy wants to help clear up the mystery that's keeping their shop closed. But murder isn't the only issue troubling the Miss Watts. A man has come between them. Miss Florence Watt is being romanced by an old flame, one Mary Watt distrusts. In between figuring out who, among his many enemies, might have poisoned the unpleasant Colonel Montague, Lucy's trying to brush up on her magic spells before the Wiccan potluck dinner her witchy cousin insists she attend. However, she's still settling into being a witch and since she botched a spell and blew up her kitchen, she's taking the magic slowly. Her knitting endeavors aren't much better. Between purling when she should knit and dropping so many stitches her hand-knit scarf looks like it was attacked by giant moths, there are days Lucy thinks she'll pack it all in and move back to Boston. She might, except she'd miss her beloved undead grandmother, her new friends, one very sexy vampire and a local detective who is very much alive.Stitches and Witches is Book 2 in the Vampire Knitting Club series of paranormal cozy mysteries. It is a standalone novel with no sex or gore, just humor, knitting, magic and a touch of romance.Get yours today.

This is the 2nd book in the vampire knitting club series. This was just as enjoyable of a read as the first one. I‘m enjoying this light cozy fantasy/mystery series.

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 It‘s a fun concept but poorly executed. I read the first book in the series and started the second but I wasn‘t enjoying it.

A man is murdered in a teashop and Lucy, witch and owner of the knitting shop next door, looks for the killer, aided by her knitting vampire friends.

I'm really enjoying this series and love the Oxford setting. I'll be going there in a few weeks and reading this book has made me excited to visit again.

This book is on my #scarathlon TBR and I saved it for the #pumpkinspicereadathon as it's perfect fit for it. It features all the elements I associate with cosiness -- knitting, a teashop, and of course, a cosy mystery!
#skeletoncrew @Emilymdxn

As a bonus, I'll start the book in conjunction with @puddlejumper's 24-hour readathon tomorrow. The only downside to the plan is that I have to work tomorrow, so reading hours are limited!

Emilymdxn Looks like a perfectly autumnal cosy mystery! 13mo

This is a portion of my #Scarathlon TBR, consisting of the books that I can also use for #witchathon. All of these contain a witch as a character or references to witchcraft, as far as I know.

Second in this series about vampires who knit and the woman - granddaughter of one of said vampires - who runs the yarn store and solves crimes. In this one, Lucy is on the case when an older man collapses and dies in the tea shop next door.

Enjoying this series. This book was a bit slow at times. I feel like the main character switches back and forth from being comfortable with all the super natural and VERY uncomfortable. I suppose it‘s a bit natural, as it‘s pretty crazy mind blowing stuff, but it just throws me for some reason. Overall I really like it though.

I finished 10 books this month so a pretty busy start to my reading this year. I tagged the last one I read and enjoyed. I will be reading more of the Vampire Knitting Club series this month. I'll catch up on my quick reviews this week.

StaceGhost I love this series! I‘m listening to the Christmas mystery Stockings and Spells (albeit a little late) while I knit up some pixie hats 3y

Second in a supernatural cozy mystery series set in Oxford. Enjoyable enough. Love the idea of bored vampires knitting in secret. Lucy (the main character) is just kinda dumb. She sometimes thinks highly unlikely things just to give the mystery more suspects and at other times is naive to the point of incredulity. Luckily, I like the setting and the side characters.

This 2nd book in the series was a lot of fun. What I like most about the series is that the MC is pretty level headed and doesn‘t make (too many) dumb decisions. The mystery was interesting to follow. I wish there wasn‘t a love triangle involving a vampire, but what can you do? I recommended this cozy series.

3.75/5⭐️ Second in the series. A bit lacking in development of the MC, but a nice cozy mystery.

Lucy is settling into her new life, running her grandmother‘s yarn shop in Oxford. Having learned she is a witch, as was her grandmother, she‘s learning to use her gift. But she still can‘t knit. When a man suddenly dies in the neighboring cafe, she is pulled into a mystery. Then another death leads her to wonder if the first was a mistake.

"The way that woman knit was like watching someone sit down at the piano expecting chopsticks and they came out with a Beethovan concerto. Her knitting was poetry in motion."

This series is a love letter to crafting yarn.

This is Book 2 of the Vampire Knitting Club series, but it's also a standalone novel. While it's nice that you can just jump in, it means there's a lot of repetition from book 1. I also found the worldbuilding of book 1 to be so enticing, but by book 2 that stuff is delivered matter of factly; not so richly. Overall, it was still fun and I so appreciate that the victims in the series are not young women, but the opposite, which seems subversive!
