I didn't rally like this when I read it, but I suspect I may have been too young to appreciate it. I'll have to give it a re-read one of these days.

I didn't like this as much as Princess Diarist, but I still love Carrie Fisher and would like to read all of her other books. This was a bit chaotic. Mostly centering on an actress and her life during her time in rehab, and immediately after. It was entertaining enough to keep me engaged throughout, but I don't feel the need to read it again 🤷🏾♀️
This was a short and sour (not sweet) book that I listened to in one day on audio. I enjoyed the irreverent look inside 80s Hollywood and the rehab industrial complex. Carrie Fisher was clearly writing from her own experience as an actress and addict. The writing voice is imbued with dark humor and I appreciated Fisher‘s willingness for self-critique. The book‘s biggest detractor is just its short length; Fisher‘s narration was excellent, though.
I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!) Feel free to join in!

I‘m listening to Carrie read this one on Audible. It‘s heartbreaking, but also funny at times. She used the phrase, “a festival of feelings, and that‘s exactly how I felt listening to this! ❤️
#Movie2BookRecs #merylstreep This is too fun not to participate in. This movie duo AND written by Carrie Fisher, WIN WIN!! @Eggs @Klou @TheSpineView
I enjoyed this dirty old library copy, original edition I ordered from Amazon. After listening to Wishful Drinking last month, I‘m pretty sure much of this content came from Carrie Fisher‘s real life. The main character, Suzanne is funny, sarcastic and self-loathingly lovable. I felt like this was a peek into the unglamorous, mundane, day to day side of a Hollywood lifestyle, addiction recovery, and all.
#Beachreads! We made it to Pensacola Beach for the week despite the crazy world and Florida state line checkpoint. Enjoying ourselves while doing our best social distance vacation.
Love the cover art. Right on the money for 80‘s Hollywood. Book was probably also very revealing for the time. Not that exciting today though. Best thing? How Debbie Reynolds supported her in that sunny Debbie Reynolds way - including bringing Carrie a Judy Garland bio to read while in rehab! Movie ( starring Meryl Streep ) in this case is better than the book.

And with this darkly comic portrait of addiction and a Hollywood which is shallow and all about therapy, sex, and the next role i have finished my winter section of the challenge. Carrie Fisher certainly writes with a sharp wit a novel that satirises her own life in a city that takes no prisoners. A real joy.
Such a beautiful day for reading. I also just sent out my #Litsylove postcards for the March challenge. Im new to #litsy so its a nice way to make new friends.
Mom brought me some peanut butter cookies and a biography of Judy Garland. She told me she thought my problem was that I was too impatient, my fuse was too short, that I was only interested in instant gratification. I said, " Instant gratification takes too long."

Some great oneliners (‘I narrate a life I‘m reluctant to live‘ or ‘The thing about having it all is, it should include having the ability to have it all‘), funny parts and some truths that haunt you after you close the book, but overall I don‘t think it lived up to its cult status. Maybe I had too many expectations. Overall not a bad read.
Seventh #24in48 book down and just 2 more hours to go 🤪 I love Carrie Fisher and I had been meaning to read this semi-autobiographical novel. It‘s so interesting to had 80s Hollywood woven in!
I spent most of the morning and all afternoon making myself finish this book. I wanted to like it because I like the author, but being in the minds of drug addicts and Hollywood starlets is not my thang...

I'm a little over 50 pages in and the Alex character is so annoying I'm tempted to bail. However, this is the letter "P" for my #LitsyAtoZ and the book about addiction for #Booked2019 so I'm trying to muscle through. ??
Carrying these books over into July. Month of the chunksters. 🤔
I've declared this a paperback summer (apart from my library holds over which I have no control). Took this to the beach and enjoyed it. I read this a looooong time ago (saw the movie, too, but have little memory of it- looks like the two are fairly different). Towards the end, the book felt a little too quippy/clever (one liner after one liner), but they're all very good, and such a great first novel. Great light read.
Next up! I‘m working my way through all of Carrie Fisher‘s books. ❤️
I spotted this edition at the Tampa New Library Sale.

I worked so hard on this, but fell asleep & forgot to post...so, better late than never? I hope...
(Day 1 - #WishYouWereHere)
By the way, one of the best songs ever!!
Maybe I shouldn‘t have given the guy who pumped my stomach my phone number, but who cares? My life is over anyway... I‘d thrown up scallops and Percodan on him the night before in the emergency room. I thought it would be impolite to refuse to give him my number. He probably won‘t call anyway. No one will ever call me again.
Up next for movie/bookclub. So far I'm enjoying the honesty of it even tho it's semi-autobiographical.
#Booked2019 Fall picks! It's all mapped out now. I can rest. 😂😁

Another book down! I know I am not going to get the full 24 but I‘m at 10 and a half. Slowly working my way through! 480 pages and 2 books - some of these pages were boring educational journals. Had a paper due today. Now back to reading!

"And if we can't make me better, can we at least make me not CARE that I'm not better?"
THEY‘RE HERE! THEY‘RE HERE! Man Cub wants to look at them with me so I have to anxiously await his getting out of school and then traveling a couple hours 😬 I can‘t wait to see all the postcards and see where and who they are from! And of course what book @Kaye so generously gifted/gave away
Yay!! My #pcs3 postcards arrived today. Thanks to @Kaye for putting this altogether and thanks to all the littens that participated. I love learning about where y‘all come from.
I had my husband deliver a couple of small #JustBecause packages to the post office for me and the postal worker asked him if they were for Litsy. When he replied they were she gave him a media mail stamp for me to use in the future. How cool is that!
Just have to get an envelope and then they are on their way to you @Kaye
Many thanks to @HighLadyoftheStacks @Lcsmcat @RachaelusGilkinius @BookishBlonde12 @GarthRanzz @Aloisi_tribe @Hunsakermountain @callielafleur @Sarah83 @MelissaS @LitLogophile and @TheBookHippie for the postcards and book and author info. A special thanks to @Kaye for making this happen. I love to armchair travel!
As expected, this book was really funny. I enjoyed her memoir, Wishful Dinking, more, but this was still a fun read.
Just started this book! I‘m super excited because I love Carrie‘s sense of humor. I‘ve read one of her memoirs, and it was hilarious!
I loved this BOOK!!! Miss her so much! I will read this again at some point to remember how freaking witty she was. Rest well, Carrie.
Sending out some postcards for he #litsypostcardexchange today. @Chrys @Kshakal and @BookwormAHN be on the lookout for yours.
I liked this book but I didn‘t love it. I would sometimes get confused on what was going on who was talking. Over all the story was good. #lovecarriefisher #readingchallenge
A little bit crazy at times but I think that was the point. I enjoyed this a lot. Am really interested to see the film now.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. So often, “addiction fiction” is filled with a lot of melodrama, graphic depictions of people hitting rock bottom, etc. This felt more real - yes, there was some “typical” drama (mostly in the Alex storyline), but at the end of the day, this was a story about someone learning how to live in the world as herself. It felt universal and realistic, rather than voyeuristic or sensationalized.
I love Carrie Fisher. Listening to her read her books is one of my favorites things. 🖤🖤🖤
#allthebooksof2017 Day One- I read this one in honor of the beloved Carrie Fisher. I need to read the sequel to this book.
Continuing my mental illness streak with Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiographical novel, which she narrated herself. I'd describe the first part as being kind of like "Girl Interrupted," only a rehab clinic instead of a mental institution, and Suzanne knows she has a problem. Super short audiobook about a girl trying to find happiness and figure out what that really looks like. Fisher's prose is gorgeous.
I reeeeally love Carrie Fisher's memoirs and this was written with the same wit and sharp humor that draws me to them over and over. I just wish it hadn't revolved so much around finding a man and then feeling complete. I'm going to listen to the second book soon, maybe the character will evolve there.
I should also mention that I really love the movie based on this book. Somehow it really works on screen!

When I think of #ManicMonday for #AwesomeAutumnBooks I think of the late, great #CarrieFisher, her books about #manicdepression and all of the awareness she brought to the area of #mentalhealth. Her books are well written, humorous and honest. She worked tirelessly to reduce the stima surrounding #mentalhealthconditions. I loved both #WishfulDrinking and #Shockaholic. #ThePrincessDiarist and #PostcardsFromTheEdge are on my #TBR #FemaleHeroes
