1) Mom:rolling meatballs with my mom after school. We were a family of ten, so there was a mountain of meatballs! Talking about books with her all my life until her death in 2016.
Dads: working in his office - saw him in a different light- created a new bond between us. Letting us read anything in his bookcases- nothing banned.
2) lover of books, compassionate, changing the world for the better one student at a time. #wondrouswednesday
Finished on audio today. Not sure why it took me so long to get back to this series, because I thought the first one was great. This was a great follow up, we learn more about both of the main characters, and the story was incredibly compelling.
Although this novel was not as compelling and powerful as her first, It was a good thriller. Ms. Khan‘s deep knowledge is again on display as her Detective Esa Khattak guides us through the actions of “those who rose to fill the vacuum of the deposed and despised, of the dialogue between civilizations, of the decades-long struggles for rights and democracy ...” (p. 272)

2nd one in the series and a good read 👍🏻 I‘m trying not to start any new series for a few months, so I‘ve downloaded the other two available in this series!
Some hairdresser reading 😁 not had a minute to read properly the last few days so looking forward to getting into this one.
1. I've known the three girls in this pic since first school. This was taken in 2008!
2. Corfu.
3. My absolute favourite smell is roast potatoes cooking & it reminds me of the oddest meal I've ever been served - pizza, roast potatoes, salad & baked beans?!
4. Tagged.
5. @LoveToReadLiveToRead #whodunituk will be sent but I'm trying to get a few extras. I'm on holiday next week so won't be until early July.

Not as good as the first one but I will still continue the series. 4 🌟

So much #AudioLaundry and #AudioCleaning to do today. 😮 I've been sick again the last few days (3rd time this month...yay cold and flu season!) My house is a disaster zone, but thankfully I've got a good #Audiobook to listen to while doing it.
Not like a “I love this so much I want to binge the whole series” book, but I think I‘ll definitely keep going with the next book. #howjessreadsin2019
Rainy days are for long reading sessions and never changing out of your pajamas.

I am enjoying this series SO much. Wonderful, complex characters and great mysteries.
When you‘re trying to be prudent and leave a small amount of books unpacked so you can still read while your moving and there are still more books than what will fit in the box.. 🤦♀️

Day 15 - mystery novel. I read the first is this series (The Unquiet Dead) a couple of months ago & cannot wait to read more. The author's unique detective duo & emphasis on social justice issues make the series timely and compelling. Check it out! #readingwomenmonth #readingwomenchallenge #dayfifteen
An excellent look at multi-cultural Toronto and a top-notch crime mystery.
#Bookmail! I enjoyed the first book so much that I definitely wanted to keep reading Khan. I‘ve looked for her books in several stores and none of them seem to stock her. This makes me sad. 🙁 So, I ordered this online. Hooray! 🙂 I‘m trying to limit my book buying, so I didn‘t buy every single book she‘s written. Yet.
@Laughterhp @eanderson You were my only entrants for my #AZKGiveaway and I can‘t bear to just flip a coin, so send me your addresses and I‘ll send you both a paperback set of the first three books. 😊 My email address is in the comments. Thanks for entering and giving me your favorite mystery/thriller recommendations!
In honor of Ausma Zehanat Khan‘s 4th Getty & Khattak novel coming out this month, I‘m going to try to fill the #quotsyfeb18 prompts from the earlier books in the series. You‘re welcome. 😂😂

Thanks to @Ashley_Nicoletto and her Kindle post, I was able to grab a few deals on iBooks since they seem to match Kindle deals. I also saw this deal and highly recommend this book. Khan is one of the authors I discovered this year and I'm so glad I did! #kindledeals #iBookdeals
Enjoyed this mystery - and the setting which is the area I live and work in so that was fun recognizing pubs and libraries etc. I struggled a bit because I had not read the first book in the series so was missing some back story that would probably be clearer from reading the first book...which I will be adding to my list now.
Another great mystery! I️ Love the complexity of relationships between the main characters and their family, the nuanced portrait painted of all the characters good, bad or shades of gray in between was really amazing!
This is the second of this series. I enjoyed seeing how the relationship between the two detectives grows and how they deal with their cultural differences. Excellent plot and ending. Highly recommend this author.
After a bad experience with Sue Grafton more than 20 years ago, I stopped doing #bingereads of authors and series, until this past July. In July and August, I binge read four authors and their various series. I think I'll still be cautious about the series and the number of books in a series that I'll binge, but these have been enjoyable and fun.

#AndItsAugust #day16 #Diversity These are four very diverse books which I've loved this year. Maus is a graphic novel written by Art Spiegelman about his fathers exoerience in Auschwitz, The Language of Secrets is about a Muslim detective in Canada, ACACO is about a cloned woman, her partner & an AI that's now in an android body & THUG is about a young black teenager who sees her best friend shot in front of her by police. 5⭐️ reads all.
A solid police procedural with well developed characters - being American, not Canadian, I had no idea it was inspired by actual events - the Toronto 18. AZK does an excellent job of combining real historical elements with fiction in a way that inspires the reader to look beyond the page and beyond themselves, to question their beliefs and prejudices. I cannot wait to start her next book.
Switching between print and audio depending on pain level and whether or not I have an aura. #currentlyreading
Thanks for hosting the #weekendgiveaway!
Grateful for audiobooks when the migraine monster strikes, even if the narrator isn't fantastic.
#rightnow I'm trying to #followtheclues in the book I'm #currentlyreading, in an effort to avoid stressing over the fact that my dog is at the vet. Maybe I'll take a nap and hide from reality for a bit.

Not sure I have enough brain power to start this, but I'm going to give it a go. #currentlyreading
#JubilantJuly #day19 #SophomoreNovels This is Ausma Zehanat Khan's sophomore novel & her follow up to The Unquiet Dead.Whilst not quite as great as her first,it was still a four star read for me.Her novels deal with the Muslim community in Canada,in the first novel, the Balkan states community, but in this one she brings together different nationalities who all have their faith in common. Esa Khattak, her main lead, is a great character to read.
Bk2 in the DI Esa Khattak series, was a solid effort after the fantastic first book, The Unquiet Dead. This one wasn't quite as good, but still a great read. I'm definitely getting my hands on Bk3.
Detective Esa Khattak is the head of the Community Policing Unit in Canada, looking into minority sensitive crime. When INSET, the federal police agency, ask his help on the murder of Mohsin Dar, a UC in a terrorist cell, he sends in Rachel Getty.
#Riotgrams #day22 #CurrentRead I've just finished one of the books I received in my #summersolstice box & it was brilliant.I have The Essex Serpent started, but I'm in the mood for more serious crime so I'm starting this novel. The 2nd book in the DI Essa Khattak series, he heads up Canada's Community Policing unit, dealing with minority sensitive crime, when he's asked to investigate the murder of an undercover agent in a potential terrorist cell.
#booksinthewild I got a delivery text message, but my book wasn't delivered!! It's lost out in the wild, all by it's lonesome. My poor book. 😭#riotgrams
Technically, the won't be my #weekendreading, but I just ordered it and it should arrive tomorrow or Sunday. The first book in this series was so good. I'm really looking forward to this one. #readingwomenmonth
Second book featuring detectives Esa Khattak and Rachel Getty. This one was just as enjoyable as the first. I felt like we really got to know the two main characters and I'm really attached to them now. The plot dragged a bit in the middle but everything tied together in a way that made sense in the end, and the book finished strong. Can't wait to read the third one!
The 2nd book in Detective Khattak series. The first book, The Unquiet Dead, was incredible. It introduced us to Muslim detective Khattak and gave us insight into his life and beliefs all the while solving a murder reaching back to The Croatian War & war crimes committed.
The Language of Secrets by Ausma Zehanat Khan. The second in her Getty/Khattak series. The first novel had rather harrowing descriptions of the 1995 Srebrenicia massacre, and so while I enjoyed the mystery, I had to keep putting the book down and seeking psychological solace by hugging my dogs. This one was much less difficult to read in terms of the mental toll it exacted, and I'm looking forward to the third book. Originally posted on Instagram.
Enjoyed the 2nd mystery in this series with Detective Esa Khattak and his partner Detective Rachel Getty. I had a bit of a hard time accepting Rachel's ease at going undercover in the mosque harboring a terrorist cell, but I let that go and read on. Khan does a good job revealing the difficulties and judgments Khattak faces as family, faith and career issues come up. Rachel is a good character too with family issues of her own.
Really enjoyed Khan's first mystery featuring Detective Esa Khattak and his partner Detective Rachel Getty. Together, they handle minority-sensitive cases for Canada's Community Policing Section. Hoping I'll like this one too. My little kitty Nellie was available to pose🐱#cats of Litsy
