Sweetie & Ashish are just the most charming characters (and the Patels are the most delightful matchmakers). Each hurdle they take, both together & apart, just builds a sweeter connection between the two of them, while making valid points about loving who you are. And of course, like Menon's other books, there's just enough comedy & poignancy sprinkled throughout to really engage the reader. This is now my fave of all the Menon books I've read.

Yay! @wanderinglynn is back with the Book Fitness Challenge for 2021! I love the 21/12/21 format she‘s created for #BFC21 - meet your goals at least 21 days a month, for 12 months, in ‘21. 🙌🏻
January Goals:
1. Read more books for #IntegrateYourShelf than books by heteronormative, cisgender, and white authors.
2. Take a walk with an audiobook at least 21 days this month. Doesn‘t matter how long or short. First audiobook is tagged!
I read the first book in this series last year and enjoyed it. This was a a good follow up - a charming rom com YA which tackled how weight is viewed in the South Asian community.
Gawh, so cute!!!! I can‘t even, this was just too adorable! Also, I like when the misunderstanding is over and done real quick; I hate when it drags out, so yay!
Enjoyed this as a fun high school romance, with extra points for body positivity. The cover is spot-on — if you like this vibe, you‘ll like this book.
I absolutely fell in love with When Dimple Met Rishi, I finally got my hands on this one and I can say.. It did not disappoint! I absolutely LOVED this book! I loved the love story, I really liked that she was fat and she did NOT care. The mother daughter relationship absolutely killed me, I felt every single thing that Sweetie felt. Sandhya Menon will forever be one of my favorite authors! I cannot wait to read Pinky's story next!
Just what I needed right now! A fun, light romance with a good message - your physical appearance doesn‘t have to define you and neither do your loved ones. You get to define you! ❤️

I‘ve been struggling with the reading. I‘ve been distracted by things like keeping up with news (but I am working on that and trying not to check so often, especially at night). Other distractions: kids‘ schoolwork, keeping track of Zoom sessions, making sure they get PE + non-screen fun time every day, feeding a hungry horde, making sure supplies last and produce gets eaten up before it wilts, keeping things clean (also, chlorox wiping things).
Swoon- worthy romance about a fat South Asian girl!
This was really cute! I liked the revisit to Rishi and Dimple and it was nice seeing the little brother‘s love story. It had an overall good message about looks not defining you and a fun storyline.
I enjoyed this one even more than the Dimple and Rishi book. Fun secondary characters; Mr. Patel is especially hilarious as the dad who thinks he‘s cool.
This was such an adorable story! I love Sweetie and Ashish so much! Very glad to finish this up during #24b42020 - had to read a lot today as I‘m working tomorrow... and this was a super fun read. And now I‘m ready for Menon‘s new book coming in June. #wintergames #teamnutcracker #tbrread
Saw this image on the Over app and thought it related to my current read! Sweetie is fat. She‘s okay with it. Her mother is not. Thank goodness she‘s got a strong support system in friends and other family.
I managed to make it to the post office today with three pieces of mail. Chipping away at my #jb stack! Hope you‘re all enjoying the weekend.
Definitely deserving of my hoarded tea from India. Writing is witty. Interesting look into Indian American families. How they balance Traditional Culture with Modern Life.
I particularly loved the message of standing up for yourself. To not be afraid to live your life as you are right now. You don't have to look like a supermodel to be happy. Also be sure to read the heartfelt Author's note.
Now if only I had some Gulab jamun. 🤓
I had an ARC of this book this past spring but forgot to read it. What a pleasure to see a positive story about a girl trying to live her best life while also pursuing romance. If you read When Dimple Met Rishi, this is Rishi's community back home. I was impressed by how Sweetie's empathy is portrayed in how she deals with everyone around her. This is a feel good read with lots of Desi culture.

Easily my favourite of Menon‘s books to date. Sweetie and Ashish are the best kind of romance protagonists: two people who‘re interesting on their own and even better once they start bouncing off each other. I rooted for them the whole way through—especially when they did SPORTS STUFF together! Yay, sports romances!
I also found Sweetie‘s relationship with her mom heartbreaking, and I‘m glad the queer characters got their own subplot.
We‘re having a monsoon this morning. The street‘s totally flooded, so I‘m just gonna stay at home. Poor Casey hasn‘t even HINTED he‘d like to go for a walk, which is how you know it‘s serious.
I also woke up with a baaaad headache that made it tough to read while I breakfasted. Audiobooks to the rescue! I listened to a big chunk of THERE‘S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE while I cooked eggs and wilted the chard I got the other day. #audiocooking
Casey and I took a lovely #audiowalk this morning. The skies were gloomy but the temperature wasn‘t too bad.
Book‘s still great, too. You can see it headed towards certain cliches as the relationship rolls along, but the bulk of it is so charming that I really don‘t care.
I haven‘t had a whole lot of listening time today, but I made a bit of progress through THERE‘S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE while I dealt with part of the giant bunch of chard my neighbour gave me earlier this evening.
The book‘s still great. I‘m sure the chard‘ll be great, too, but I‘m tired of eating it as chips or tossing it in anywhere I‘d normally use kale. Do any of you have some favourite chard-forward recipes? #audiocooking #sortof
I‘ve listened to almost half of THERE‘S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE today, thanks to some intense cleaning and a sunset #audiowalk. It‘s so cute! But it also hurts my soul! And there‘s SPORTS!
I like it a lot, is what I‘m saying.
Sandhya Menon's third YA novel, There's Something about Sweetie, is a beautiful followup to her first (and my favorite!) When Dimple Met Rishi. This new book focuses on the relationship between Ashish (brother to Rishi from book 1) and Sweetie, a self-proclaimed fat athlete whose traditional South Asian mother constantly criticizes her weight. (continued in comments)
Another adorable YA Romance from Menon! I don‘t think I liked it quite as much as “When Dimple Met Rishi,” but I loved Sweetie. She was such a great character! I also enjoyed that this story included the theme of self-love and acceptance, separate from the romantic storyline.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I did quite a bit of ranting this time around so you can see the full review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2910499755

I‘m in the mood for some fun reads this month! Carry On will be a reread via audiobook, and I‘m also finishing up The City in the Middle of the Night and need to read Sky Without Stars for my YA book club, which I‘ve got waiting for me on my Kindle. What are you hoping to read this month? #tbr
5/5 stars. Sandhya Menon did it again! I absolutely loves this book! Not only do we get a continuation from Her first book, but we also get fat rep! I love it!! I think at this point I will read anything Sandhya Menon writes!!
I love this Indian American author - her books are nice and light but have a good message. I haven‘t read the tagged book yet but the other two are really cute. The teen characters are also Indian American but their families are from #India and very traditional. #letstraveljuly
I would've taken a picture of my dog, but her paws were super muddy, so another photo of morning sun on the trees it is!
The amount of wealth on display with Ashish's family makes me feel weird, but Sweetie is such a loveable and compelling character that she makes up for it. I'm only about 40% of the way through, but watching her journey to not just loving herself, but not being ashamed of loving herself, has been an utter delight so far!
Sweet YA that gets at deep issues around parental torture and weight (yes, it‘s child abuse), the feelings of being a player and wanting to change that, Friend Squad goals, and much more. Nice coming of age tale that‘s s great companion to When Dimple Met Rishi! #youngadult #romance
First I'm clearly getting old as 17 year olds in love make me mentally roll my eyes. But I was in the right mood for it so it seemed more charming than tooth-rotting. I loved Sweetie's bravery & would hope my daughter & all the young women I know would be confident enough to take a stand for themselves. Overall this was a total feel good listen; the narration was great too.I could have used books like this when I was a teen.
I got a lot of #audiostitching done today. 😊🧵
🎧🚙 I only started this today but I already 1- can't wait to get back in the car to listen to more of it and 2- feel horrified on Sweetie's behalf. As someone who has always struggled with weight, her mother's attitude is heartbreaking and I want to give her a big hug. Since I'm home now I'm hoping to finish up #EoE.
I really liked this third book by Menon in this series. Sweetie was an interesting and complex character.
YA rom-com perfection. 💕🔥💕🔥💕

So delightful. And #rippedbodicebingo name on the cover.
OK, this tastes much more delicious than it looks since I kind of just threw it in a bowl. Store-bought California Roll Ahi Poke, leftover brown rice & homemade quick-pickled sweet peppers & mini cucumbers.🐟🍚Totally hit the spot on a warm summer night. I really liked When Dimple Met Rishi so I grabbed this companion novel at the library today.
Even though I was gone I was still reading so I‘ll be randomly posting some of the books I was reading #inmyabsence! I just read this and I love Menon‘s writng style. I love the way she writes young adult romance. I love the way she portrays the mix of Indian and American culture. In this book I enjoyed the way she discussed complex teenagers/parent relationships and the way she handled accepting ones body and what its capable of. She makes...
Simply adorable. When opposites attract and it ends up actually being love. Sweetie‘s relationship with her mother both breaks my heart and pisses me off. I just want her mom to open her eyes! Ashish has lost his mojo and honestly I‘m glad because I couldn‘t have taken him being a player douche...
So excited to be reading this book! I adore Sandhya Menon's books and her talent for writing brilliant characters. Sweetie is definitely resonating with me, and the humor and charm of this book is making me fall head over heels!
#ThisIsIt -- all the books I'll be able to finish this month. I liked all the books I read in May! I did pretty well sticking to my planned TBR. I'm still reading the three I didn't finish, and I also finished There's Something About Sweetie. #AMonthofSongs
This was the perfect book to read after finishing some more difficult reads. I love the author‘s style and she always does a good job giving her characters interests outside of the main relationship that drives the narrative. Sweetie was a fun, strong character!
Excited to read this beautiful book! I‘m so happy to see more plus sized characters in YA fiction. I needed these books as a teen 💕
Book 38: This was just as wonderful as I hoped it would be.
