Happy Loving Day #lovingday #interracial #landmark #supremecourt #Virginia
I really enjoyed the illustrations in this one. I think it‘s ridiculous, what these people went through. I did not realize that the actual case title was Loving V. Virginia and it wasn‘t just a clever name for the book. 4⭐️
On June 12, 1967 the U.S. Supreme Court voted unanimously to overturn anti-miscegenation laws throughout the country. Since the landmark decision was made, today is known as Loving Day after Richard and Mildred Loving who never gave up in their fight to be recognized legally as husband and wife in every state.
The bus with Freedom Riders on it that the KKK firebombed in Alabama in 1961. Downright horrifying.
I hate that this shamefulness happened in my home state.
I am loving this book so far. It has already made me angry, nostalgic, hopeful, and intrigued.
This story broke my heart. To know that not too long ago you couldn't marry who you wanted and live with them and be recognized as husband and wife. This really hit me hard as I am in an interracial marriage and I couldn't imagine going through something like this and getting through it. I seen there was a movie about this and I wanted to read this short by enough to rip your heart out nonfiction book about The Lovings..

Every time I take a class to our school library I tell myself I‘m not going to check out any more books. . . and every time I check out books. I have no self-control!! I am super excited for Lovings vs. Virginia!! #itsnothoardingifyoureadthem
I loved learning more about the story behind this landmark case. I can‘t imagine going through this with such strength and dignity. The audio was excellent!
This novel in verse imagines the lives of Mildred and Richard Loving, the young couple involved in the landmark 1967 Civil Rights trial.
The state of Virginia argued that the 14th amendment do not cover “intermarriage.” The Lovings‘ lawyers argued that upholding Virginia‘s laws “amounted to legalized prejudice and relegated the Negro to second-class citizenship.”

I'm really enjoying this book so far. Has anyone else read it?
I very much enjoyed this audiobook. It really brought this to life.
My current read. I know next to nothing about the case and the couple, so this is a great learning opportunity. Plus, I love Ms. Powell's work. What category does a "documentary novel" belong in? Fiction or nonfiction?
My 2017 history reads. I enjoyed all of them even if a few were a little dense or slow.

Good so far. George Wallace had to be one of the worst people in history. 😡
My first read of June & I totally feel like it qualifies for #smellsliketeenspirit in #junetunz Millie & Richard fell in love as teenagers and proved what spirit & determination can accomplish. I very much enjoyed the way this was written & the lovely illustrations. Plus it was from the teen section on my most recent #libraryhaul 💕📚🤓
Loved this! The format was completely unexpected, as I hadn't read any reviews of the book jacket. Beautifully written in verse and interspersed with artwork and facts about the civil rights movement. This is a must read!
I thought the story was important but it felt a little short. Not the best telling or a great read. Good for just a brief overview I think.
The free verse format is an excellent way to tell this story for young adults without getting bogged down in decades of details.
Touching story about Richard & Mildred Loving, childhood sweethearts that grew up near one another, fought Virginia's anti-miscegenation laws, & won full recognition for their marriage in the Supreme Court. It's written in verse & does a great job conveying the hardships they faced—they were forbade from living together after legally marrying in DC & moving back to Virginia. Great book for everyone, esp kids, about interracial marriage. 👰🏾🤵🏼
Decided to get on the #AtoZLitsyChallenge #AtoZChallenge train. Funnily just read 2 back-to-back #LetterL books. #bulletjournal #bujo #readingtracker #minimalistbujo
I enjoyed this audiobook production. Multiple voices representing multiple viewpoints and major related events.
Our school library just got this in and even though I'm in the middle of a few other books I dropped everything to read this.
As I listen to this I'm also reading March Book One (although not at the same time lol) and I just can't comprehend the hate that exists. The hate that drives people to hurt other people. People who aren't doing anything wrong. People who just want to be treated fairly. People who just want to love.
Quick and interesting read about the Lovings, the couple who paved the way for my own marriage. Crazy to read through their timeline and think that all they experienced occurred when my parents were children.
I can't say enough about this beautiful book! The verse was fantastic and the book peppered with historical photos and facts. Well worth the read!

My parents are older than the Civil Rights Act. It's amazing to think how much the world has changed for their generation and how recent these steps to equality really were.
This account of the Loving family & their civil rights struggle breaks my heart & enrages me. How can it be that this happened less than 75 yrs ago in a country that boasts of freedom & equality? As this is yet another case & issue in America's past I did not learn about in school, I wonder if it's time to seriously rethink what we teach in history. How else will we prevent these inequalities and tragedies from happening again?

Such an important book. I'm glad I went to the library and got it. The illustrations were beautiful. The information on the lawyers and how they won the case was very interesting. Seeing the actual dates of integration, speeches and events freaked me out. It doesn't feel that long ago😳
So excited to get a physical copy of this wonderful novel in verse about the Lovings and their Supreme Court case which finally declared anti-miscegenation laws and mixed-race marriage bans unconstitutional. #BlackHistoryMonth
It is #BlackHistoryMonth and we're #currentlyreading #LovingvsVirginia which is about the Lovings, who set the judicial precedent for interracial marriage and proved that it was unconstitutional to deny them.
Saw the movie Loving today; reading this book about the Lovings in verse. #netgalley
This was a wonderfully written novel in verse that alternates between Richard and Mildred's perspectives. It shows how their relationship develops, the difficulties they face, and their determination to keep their family together and live in Virginia. It also includes some photos and excerpts from historical documents that add to the depth of the reading experience.

At first I was put off that the book was in verse. However, I was able to move past that and be riveted by the story of how Richard and Mildred connected, fell in love, and married. They faced many struggles along the way. Reading it today offers a powerful reminder that love does trump hate. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Starting this one tonight.
