3✨ This was not my favorite book in the series. For one I like Chaol and Dorian as a team with Celeana. They don‘t have to be romantic interests just helping each other. Now there was growth in the characters, and Dorian finds a healer that he might be able to trust. The ending had me crying, angry that they killed a character that I liked, and excited for the next book. Major mixed feelings, but excited to see what happens next!

LiseWorks I totally agree, I was so upset at the death. But this might motivate them to take action. On to the next book 4d

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 ch.61-end/review: well, that‘s how you ramp up a book and get the readers excited for the next book. I felt like it was Boom Boom Boom - each of our characters had smth life altering happening in these final chapters. I‘d like to make special mention of Chaol finally choosing a side and then giving up his name and identity, just as Aelin acknowledges who she really is. That wasn‘t lost on us,SJM. ⬇️

StayCurious Did anyone else feel as though they were reading a different book when it came to the witch chapters? Funnily enough those were my favourite chapters and the most interesting. I can‘t wait to see what Manon gets up to in the next books. There‘s a lot to be done by the others: free Aedion, find the third wyrdkey, face Celaena‘s old master, free Dorian (who now may be inhabited by the Valg)…lots to do. ⬇️ 5d
StayCurious But now we‘re going to take a little side quest to the prequel novellas in The Assassin‘s Blade. For those who want to join me, I‘ll post a reading schedule tomorrow. (edited) 5d

BarkingMadRead I‘m in for the next one! I loved the Manon chapters, they were very different but in the very best way 5d
mcctrish I will join you - I got the wrong book from the library 😱 and I agree on Manon and her witch pals feeling like a different book. The Assassin‘s Blade might give me some trouble, all forms of it have long wait times at multiple libraries (edited) 5d
Roary47 I‘m in for the next one too! 🥰 5d
LiseWorks Boom, Boom, Boom is exactly right for the last chapters. Yes fir the next book 5d
Butterfinger Week of professional development, a mile long to-do list, a new baby in the family. I woke up at 3 to complete ch 55 to the end. Maas knows how to craft a cliffhanger. I was sort of wanting Abraxos to eat the grandmother. I have missed reading. 5d

Getting good! Recurring themes of SJM‘s: our hero is facing her enemy and heading for a bigger battle but can‘t do it until she confronts herself and defeats her own bullshit. Celaena is coming back to lots of changes, but she‘s gone through a lot of change herself. More witches please!
Thanks for the readalong @StayCurious

Hey guys - sorry for missing last night‘s post-life gets in the way of reading! I will keep to our schedule and post the finale tomorrow since we‘re all very eager to finish😀 #LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch 58-60. What a face off with Maeve! I can‘t quite believe Celaena got her to free Rowan. Was it too easy? Is it certain? Like Maeve wasn‘t just playing Fae games was she? ⬇️

StayCurious I hope that insubordination doesn‘t come back to bite them but let‘s face it - we haven‘t seen the last of Maeve. And now everyone knows Aelin is alive. And boy was the King pissed. He‘s usually always a step ahead but not this time. Here‘s hoping him and Maeve don‘t conspire together. 6d
BarkingMadRead Omg these chapters are epic. I totally finished yesterday 🤣 6d

Laughterhp I was so surprised she was able free Rowan so easily! I definitely don‘t think that‘s the last we‘ll see of Maeve. I fell asleep last night, but hope to finish ASAP! 6d
Littlewolf1 @BarkingMadRead 🙋🏼‍♀️Me Too! 6d
mcctrish Rowan knew Maeve‘s back story and what tiny little wiggle room they might have, he had to play the long game with her - I thought this was going to be sooo bad with him being deaded 6d
LiseWorks I think Maeve is afraid of the king. 6d
Roary47 Whoa! That was epic! Did he get out of his servitude and go straight to another oath with A? 5d
StayCurious @Roary47 he did indeed. I think it was a way to protect himself and Aelin from Maeve by bonding them together. 5d

Well , Damn, I had to finish this today because all was happening in the last chapters. There was more action in the last chapters than there was in the whole book. Although I love the witches chapters and Dorian with Sochia. I'll be checking in with #LittensLoveSJM @StayCurious comments on the BuddyReads. #Read2025 @DieAReader #ISpyabingoAugust @TheAromaofBooks one bingo spot.

I couldn‘t wait #littenslovesjm despite this being a reread I only vaguely remember the witches 🤷🏻‍♀️ Manon and Abraxos are my favourites. I‘m getting the next one from the library ( which I‘ve apparently also read but my brain is like a sieve with these books so I will be reading it again for the first time )

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.55-57: Celaena has finally faced her past and is able to tell her story. She is healing and moving past her grief. Some of that has to do with Rowan and the bond that has built - too bad he is enslaved to Maeve. She could command him to kill Celaena and he‘d have no choice. That‘s dangerous. And Maeve will not want such a powerhouse as a potential rival. I sense bad things in the future with Maeve. ⬇️

StayCurious It‘s too bad Chaol and Dorian are still at such odds. But I think they are at such odds and have such different beliefs - they are no longer the children they once were. But you‘d think they would realize they share a common enemy enough to work together. Do you think destroying a tower will make a difference? If so…let‘s goooo. 1w
BarkingMadRead Maeve makes me so nervous! She may not like how powerful Caelena has gotten 1w
See All 6 Comments
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead same!!!! She‘s not going to like Celeana one bit! I don‘t understand why Chaol and Dorian are still at odds - they both kept secrets, they‘ve both come clean, they have a common enemy 1w
Laughterhp I‘m going to have a hard time not reading ahead now that I‘m caught up! I hope Chaol and Dorian can settle their differences and work together. Sounds like destroying a tower should work! 1w
Littlewolf1 In my head, I keep chanting… I can keep to the schedule,I can keep to the schedule, I can keep to the schedule… yet somehow it keeps changing to..I can finish it in one night! No worries, I‘m still sticking to three at night. The connection between Rowan and Aline is amazing. I‘m also glad that Chaol and Dorian seem to be on the mend. Wishing we had a little witch action in here though. 1w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.52-54: wow what a chapter 54 was - SJM can sure write impactful scenes! Seeing just some of the people Celaena has lost - and what she went through as a girl - it shows how strong she really is. I‘d be in a mental institution - hands down. And once we get more Sam scenes in the prequel novellas - I‘m going to be gutted. ⬇️

StayCurious We were shown the real villains of the piece - the Valg. I‘m sure they will play a key role in this series. Especially since they can inhabit a person‘s body. Could someone be taken over without anyone knowing? 1w
BarkingMadRead Omg that whole plot the king put together to kill them all is insane 1w

StayCurious @BarkingMadRead very Game of Thrones I thought 1w
mcctrish The king has Long Game! Did he know it was her, Aelin, as his Champion? 1w
StayCurious @mcctrish my guess is he knows almost everything. Somehow. He‘s brilliant and conniving. 1w
Butterfinger Not only does she write amazing action, but she also creates characters that become my favorites. 1w
Laughterhp These chapters were so good! Doesn‘t surprise me about the king but so diabolical! I really liked seeing into her past. 1w
Littlewolf1 Crying, who‘s crying… I‘m not crying! OK well maybe I got a little emotional during the last chapter. Reliving her memories and then facing the people that she loved that she felt like she failed was insane. But to face herself and accept herself was pretty bad ass. 1w
Roary47 I have been struggling with this book, but that last chapter. 😭It was nice to see what she went through and how strong she became because of it. Hopefully, I can catch up in time for the next book. Teaching three different subjects this year is zapping my reading time. 5d

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 ch.49-51: Man, Celaena seems to get betrayed a lot. I wonder who turned on them and gave Narrok‘s forces the edge. Here‘s hoping all that fire training will help her against those creatures. And finally, after the slave massacre, Dorian seems to realize his father is literally the worst. But he knows that he must remain heir to make things change. ⬇️

StayCurious What he needs to do is assassinate the king but the king seems to always be one step ahead so that may be a bad plan. 2w
LiseWorks I felt bad for Dorian. What to do? And now the fight begins! 2w
See All 7 Comments
mcctrish I want to know who betrayed them! It has to be a character we‘ve met? Chaol and Dorian‘s stories seem so lame compared to Celaena and the witches but I still don‘t understand why the king just lets Chaol do whatever 1w
Butterfinger I'm on the edge of my seat. Aedion was so pitiful. The pretense. The guilt. 1w
Littlewolf1 Oh man, how did I get off track here. Seriously thought I was doing three a day, but apparently I read an extra two chapters somewhere… Lol. 1w
BarkingMadRead Ong this betrayer better not wreck me. And this is getting harder to put down. I have a feeling I‘ll be done by Tuesday, and only because I have a busy Monday 🤣 1w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.46-48: I think we all know how bad the King of Adarlan is. But killing every slave in those labour camps - the brutality is unthinkable. And what is his endgame? Adarlan is in charge but soon will have no people to rule over. And now the revenue from those labour camps is gone. It‘s hard to fathom such cruelty. ⬇️

StayCurious Celaena was already going to kill him but now I think she‘ll have a lot of help from those around her. But first, save the Demi fae and the fortress! Here‘s hoping Maeve lets Rowan stay and fight. 2w

5feet.of.fury @mcctrish agree, so over the top. But Vengeance is coming 🔥🔥🔥 hopefully this snaps the boys out of their complacency 2w
BarkingMadRead This was way over the top, how could he benefit from this? 2w
Littlewolf1 I forgot how heartbreaking the series was, and again I‘m reminded why I had to read other books during the series. It absolutely wrecks my soul to think about how many people were just massacred, and how devastated the people left behind must feel. I know it‘s fiction but I feel this. And it also reminds me that despite being fiction, things like this happen when people seek power and control. It‘s not just in stories. 2w
Butterfinger Rowan showed some humility when telling Aelin. At the beginning, he would have used the knowledge to make her mad. @Littlewolf1 you are right. 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.43-45: our characters are putting together all the evil things the king is up to. He‘s creating monsters to build his army. And he‘s planning to attack Wendlyn soon. But how can they be warned? And does Aedion even want to considering they failed to help Terrasen. We also see tension between Abraxos and even the thirteen and Manon‘s grandmother. They are loyal to Manon more than her. Does the grandmother know this?

BarkingMadRead Omg Abraxos‘ reaction to the grandmother was priceless! (edited) 2w
See All 12 Comments
Littlewolf1 I‘m just gonna say we all get bonus points for not reading the next chapter. First, we have Manon and Abraxos in the air, but it stops there. We don‘t know the response to the other witches, of the 13 of her grandmother. And then, we have Aeline (Celaena) about to get attacked and Rowan nowhere to be found. The fact at this point that I haven‘t just finished the book show dome restrain on my part. Kudos all who are sticking to 3 chapters a day. (edited) 2w
BarkingMadRead @Littlewolf1 I am so close to reading ahead, it‘s been hard to restrain myself 2w
Butterfinger I'm renaming my cat from Ruhn Dannon to Abraxos @BarkingMadRead @mcctrish When he growled the grandmother, I love him. If Maas wants me invested in the Rowan pairing, it will have to be because of his hurt from his past, the guilt of his wife and unborn child dying. Chaol really didn't have that, did he? Just a hateful father. Don't get me wrong, it's awful to endure the abuse, but R and C/A hold tremendous guilt from their actions. 2w
Butterfinger Chaol was weak anyway. Which side did he choose? His own side. 2w
LiseWorks The fact that Celaena still thinks of Chaol is interesting. The fact that she promised Dorian she would be back for him is mentioned again. So, I'm waiting for Dorian to take some kind of action against his father, Chaol, to take a side. And Rowan to take that first kiss. 2w
mcctrish @LiseWorks I wonder how many books it will take ? 2w
mcctrish @Littlewolf1 in my case it‘s the 4 buddy reads I have going on but I was weighing how much is left and debating about just finishing it 2w
5feet.of.fury @Butterfinger I hope Maas thought of something good if Rowan is endgame because I‘m not going to like this man just because he is traumatized 😂 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.40-42: We see what burnout looks like for a Fae as powerful as Celaena and Rowan just manages to save her. They are growing closer and sharing more about themselves. She even told him about Sam. Rowan is also learning that Maeve may not be that honest about certain things. She has kept things from him. And Celaena is growing to hate Maeve the more she learns about her. ⬇️

StayCurious Meanwhile, I liked that Aedion spoke so bluntly to Chaol and accused him of not picking a side. He will have to face some hard truths about himself and his relationships with Dorian and Celaena. 2w
BarkingMadRead So many relationship tests in these chapters! But no witches! I need my fix 🤣 2w

mcctrish @BarkingMadRead I need some Abraxos stat 2w
LiseWorks The burning chapter was intense. She still needs to learn control. I was so glad Rowen realized how bad he treated Celaena. 2w
Littlewolf1 I am really enjoying the chemistry between Rowan and Celaena during these chapters. I think it‘s good that he is starting to see how broken she truly is and being a little bit more respectful. However, I‘m glad he called her out on her fear of her own power. The fact that she thought she burned out during the celebration, gave her help which he smashed by letting her know that she did not burn out, but rather allow her magic to take control. 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.37-39: Boy-that Iskra is asking for a walloping, and I‘m glad Manon gave it to her. Poor Abraxos! But now Manon has shown her weakness to everyone. She‘d better watch her back-even from her allies. Also, what was she thinking stealing from that spider? That‘s gonna come back to haunt her, for sure. Also pretty sure the foul taste/smell is dark magic set to control the witches. Good thing Manon is smart to notice.

Laughterhp I was not expecting her to steal from those spiders! I liked all the witches chapters! 2w

mcctrish The black magic that permeates everything is meant to keep them from succeeding for sure - do all the wyverns talk to their witches or just some ? 🤔 2w
LiseWorks I'm falling in love with Abraxas, especially when he shielded her from the cold. Stealing from a spider is not a good thing. 2w
BarkingMadRead Omg these chapters were so good! I worry about the backlash from stealing from those spiders and showing her hand when it comes to Abraxos. That scene where he protected her from the storm was 😍😍 2w
Littlewolf1 I feel like Manon should be paying closer attention to Abraxas action. We know he did not eat the meat for a reason, maybe he was avoiding the drop-off. Also, i really do not like the relationship between Dorian and the nurse. 2w
Butterfinger @mcctrish I have no idea if they all have that mental connection, but I admit I could have squealed when he knocked the three spiders off the cliff. It was like they planned it and it was executed perfectly. @StayCurious it is driving me crazy- the mountain, the rings, the smell and taste, the control. I'm glad the 13 and their wyverns have stopped eating the food. This may be unpopular, but Manon and Abraxas are saving this book. 2w
StayCurious @Butterfinger no I totally agree. Her chapters are the most interesting 2w
5feet.of.fury @Butterfinger agree Abraxos & Manon are my faves. Everyone else is all talk no action. 2w
Roary47 @Butterfinger Nope! I agree 💯! They are saving this book. The spider 🕷️ scene I glazed over. 😭😱 I don‘t really like S with D either @Littlewolf1 I do like that he has someone to keep his magic secret. I wish N was still there to help Dorian with it though. 😔 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.34-36: Rowan and Celaena are making progress with each other. Turns out Rowan has lost his mate - which is the worst thing that can happen to Fae I think. No wonder he‘s so hard. Celaena has started to feel a connection to him in that they‘ve both suffered loss and need to crawl their way out of the abyss. Perhaps they can do it together. What he felt for his mate I think Celaena felt for Sam and even Nehemia. ⬇️

StayCurious Aedion and Chaol are closer to discovering how the King got rid of magic. The king must be a keen study to have figured out how to do that. Did he have help? Or did he just control those around him? 2w
BarkingMadRead Ugh am I going to end up liking Rowan? 2w

StayCurious @BarkingMadRead it‘s hard to believe but … maybe? 2w
BarkingMadRead @StayCurious I will be so so mad 🤣🤣🤣 2w
Laughterhp I like that Emrys sticks up for her and has no problem yelling at Rowan. All of a sudden I‘m supposed to feel sympathy for Rowan?! He better do more than just tell her he lost her mate for me to like him. 2w
LiseWorks Aha! So now I feel really bad for Rowan, I knew there was a reason for the way he is. And Aedion is not bad after all. You can't judge a person without knowing them. 2w
Butterfinger I thought Ren's story was pitiful. How far he's fallen just to survive. 2w
Littlewolf1 Not gonna lie, I deal with pain with getting tattoos too. Not the same type, but the same concept. I‘m glad they were able to take this and open up, and then she got a couple good swings in there during this round. They‘re obviously both dealing with my struggle of self-worth, but I like the idea of them healing together. 2w
Read4life With everything going on I‘m WAY behind. I‘m hoping to get caught up tomorrow. 2w
Roary47 I feel like I should feel bad for Rowan. What happened was terrible, but he made the choice to leave his pregnant wife for what he felt his duty. I feel like he picked his job over his family. While sure he was needed, could he have ensured that his wife was safe with relatives, friends, or something before he left? I am glad that Celeana and him had this sort of bonding moment, but I'm still not okay with how he has been treating her. 2w
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 agree, it‘s sad, I have some empathy for him… but that doesn‘t make up@for what he did to her or randomly putting Luca in danger. Ridiculous behavior 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.31-33: Man, Rowan is such a d*ck. I don‘t know what his motivation is, or what his past trauma is, but Celaena has been through so much and she‘s just asking for a friend. And he slaps her down for it. We better learn he had a good reason for it - or get to see Celaena beat his ass. ⬇️

StayCurious As usual, the Manon chapters were great. I‘m fascinated with the smell she senses. Is it caused by the King‘s black magic? Is it the same smell Celaena got from the creature draining bodies? So curious! Also, poor Abraxos. He just wants to smell flowers and fly. I hope he‘s not still being abused by the handlers when Manon isn‘t with him. 2w
BarkingMadRead I can‘t wait to find out what that smell is, and I love how much we got of Abraxos! Rowan better redeem himself soon 2w

mcctrish Aedion noticed the smell too - something is rotten in Denmark for reals! Abraxos makes me laugh - he‘s like a cat #youarenotthebossofme ❤️❤️❤️ I worry about the handlers too 2w

Laughterhp I thought it was weird that all of a sudden she thought of him as a friend.. he hasn‘t been anything but mean to her. 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.28-30: Celaena shifts and is able to embrace her fae form, and stays as Fae for an extended period of time. I‘m curious if this is the first time she‘s done that or if she was always Fae as a child. Her memories of her parents and Aedion make me sad but they are good to read because they provide important background. Chaol and Aedion discover there‘s a group of Royal soldiers- surprise surprise, Chaol knows nothing⬇️

StayCurious They obviously work for the king. I feel as though he keeps Chaol around just for show. He definitely wasn‘t offered a coveted black ring so he‘s not in the inner circle or important enough that the king needs to control him. 2w
mcctrish It‘s actually funny how Ardalan seems work on 2 levels ( or is it clever?) Chaol is the legit side of the family business, waste management say, and the other side is the illegal black ring side 2w

StayCurious @mcctrish yeah the king keeps two sets of books 2w
mcctrish Did Perrington‘s champion wear the same outfit/crest ? My brain isn‘t remembering names 2w
LiseWorks I am worried they are going to find out that Aedion s ring is a fake 2w
Butterfinger @mcctrish I don't remember a special crest, just the ring. I hope it goes back full circle. Where is #whatsherface and Dorian's cousin? Were they used as bait for the wyverns? I'm enjoying Dorian's and Sorscha's story. I want to believe in them. Does anyone else feel like this is similar to watching "stories"? LOL 2w
mcctrish @Butterfinger I‘m reading library books so I can‘t go back and check earlier books 🤦🏻‍♀️ Roland is the cousin and the girl was sent with Perrington to meet someone? They both heard the wings ? Roland got a ring but she didn‘t ? 2w
Butterfinger @mcctrish I believe so. I can't remember what makes me think they are with the wyverns. Then, it would make sense that Roland and (name started with a K) she heard wyvern wings. 2w
StayCurious @Butterfinger @mcctrish was it Kaltain? She and Roland are definitely still in play with the Duke. We haven‘t heard the last of them. 2w
mcctrish Yes!!! Kaltain - I wonder who she was to meet? The soul sucker? 2w
Roary47 I think Kaltain doesn‘t have a ring because she has a substance abuse problem. So she is already being controlled @mcctrish . I also want to believe in Sorscha and Dorian. @Butterfinger 2w
mcctrish @Roary47 no I know she didn‘t, but she complained about headaches and hearing the wings the same as Roland who did wear a ring. She took the opium ( or whatever the substance was) for the headaches. Why did the champion who wore a ring not have the headaches? What is Kaltain being manipulated for ? 2w
Roary47 @mcctrish ooo I missed that was why she took the drugs. I thought it was how she was controlled and the drugs produced the headaches and the sensitivity to hearing the wings. 2w
Butterfinger @Roary47 @mcctrish I went back to look. Ch 9 of the current read. There is a Duke (I assume Perrington) with two prisoners (Kaltain and Roland -again, an assumption) Manon thinks their smell is alien. Maybe, only a few are in on the king's plans (Perrington and the champion), and others are drugged by the onyx???? that is in the rings.. All assumptions. But, I am worried about Roland and Kaltain. I want K to be part of the feminist fighters. 2w
mcctrish @Butterfinger Manon says the men smell and taste bad at the mountain, Abraxos won‘t eat the food - is something in the water or does the mountain affect the water? Is Kaltain given something? Wasn‘t the food/water in prison tampered with? 2w
StayCurious @mcctrish @Roary47 @Butterfinger if I remember correctly, the Duke was using the magic on Kaltain to influence her because her bloodline had a history of magic or power. The duke and king wanted that power on their side. But Kaltain wasn‘t strong enough to withstand the effects of the dark magic and the duke said to the king he needed to lay off a bit because she was getting headaches and going a bit batty. (edited) 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.25-27: Not sure why we are rooting so much for the witches when they are training to fight the King‘s enemies, but I‘m here for them. Their chapters are interesting! Manon is outfitting Abraxos to be a champion, with iron fangs and spikes on his tail. What I find interesting is Dorian uses iron to dampen his magic because iron is immune to magic. And yet the iron teeth covens are well…outfitted with iron. ⬇️

StayCurious And had magic before it disappeared. Like I said - Interesting. I worry about Sorscha. I don‘t think she‘s completely keeping Dorian‘s secret. But maybe I‘m wrong. And as for the creepy killer Rowan and Celaena are tracking, was he the King‘s assassin and did he have something to do with her parents‘ deaths? 3w
5feet.of.fury I‘m worried about Sorcha‘s experiments with Dorian… I‘m not sure what to make of her. 3w

mcctrish A few chapters back we learned of some other girl who‘s missing - E something - I wonder if Sorscha is connected somehow. I agree the iron connections are confusing or inconsistent - E name is Elide, is she undercover like Celeana ? (edited) 3w
Butterfinger @StayCurious Celaena said it was the same smell. I at first thought she meant the smell of blood, but she only smelled it 3 times, so it is more than blood. What's up with the birds? So confused right now. And the human males' blood tastes weird to Manon. 3w
LiseWorks I absolutely loved the dragon fight, I call them dragons. And I love an underdog. They might laugh at Manon picking that underdog creature, but he sure put up a fight to survive. 3w
Laughterhp Oh that‘s interesting that the witches are full of iron. Do they have a different type of magic? I didn‘t think of that as Dorian was using iron to dampen his magic. 2w

Sorry for the missed post! I ran out of time yesterday because my son kept asking for “one more story” at bedtime 😆. I will post twice today so we stay on schedule. #LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.22-24: these were good chapters with some intense scenes! First with those skin collectors - so creepy! Then we got to see a glimpse of Celaena‘s powers. ⬇️

StayCurious Rowan saved her life so maybe he‘s not all bad though I think him having a blood oath to Maeve may be troublesome in future. Manon got her wyvern and not how we were expecting it at all. I think she‘s great and I always root for the little guy. Let‘s watch Abraxos prove himself. ⬇️ 3w
StayCurious These witches remind me of Amazons btw. Man are they tough on each other. And finally, Dorian gets dragged into the loop and has new reasons to be angry at Chaol. What will he do with all this information? He‘s in such a tough spot. 3w
See All 7 Comments
5feet.of.fury More Manon chapters please! So glad for Abraxos, and now none of those other witches get Titan either. Asterin taking the punishment tho… the witch politics are interesting 3w
BarkingMadRead Omg that chapter about Abraxos 😍 totally badass! 3w
mcctrish #teamabraxos all the way 3w
Butterfinger Yes! Abraxos! From bait to the heir's ride. I'm so glad there are no more secrets between Dorian and Chaol. 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.19-21: interesting about Aedion. I was pleasantly surprised that he‘s been playing the King for years. Although how did he pull off not wearing the real ring? Does the king suspect? He‘s playing a dangerous game. And now we know that some wearing the rings don‘t realize they‘re in a club. They are being controlled. ⬇️

StayCurious If anyone is shipping Celaena and Rowan at this early stage - yuck. He‘s such a prick. How did SJM write a heartthrob like Rhysand and also a jerk like Rowan? Even when Rhysand was seemingly the villain I loved him. Sigh. 3w
BarkingMadRead I‘m totally rethinking Aedion now, I didn‘t see that coming. Rowan is such a prick, I cannot see myself ever liking him! 3w
See All 10 Comments
mcctrish All of a sudden Chaol has slightly redeemed himself for noticing the rings and paying attention to details. And yes @BarkingMadRead Aedion is not a total waste of space but @StayCurious Rowan and Rhysand are 2 very different villains, I agree 🖤I loved Rhysand from the start cuz he had banter!!!! 3w
Laughterhp Oh is Rowan supposed to be a love interest for her? I don‘t see it at all… 3w
LiseWorks For some reason, Aedion didn't seem so bad to me. I kind of liked him and knew he was up to something with the disappearing act at parties 3w
Butterfinger I'm with you, @StayCurious I do not like Rowan. I think he should stay a bird. But, on the other hand, Maas writes her characters with unlikeable and honorable traits, so who knows. I like Aedion, but not when he felt jealous over Chaol. Hopefully, I misinterpreted that part. I am wondering, traditionally, healers were/are witches. Could Sorscha be a Cochran? Just one more person to hide Dorian's secret. 3w
5feet.of.fury I‘m not mad at Rowan, I‘d think Celaena was useless if I just met her 😂 Aedion is very interesting & Chaol is finally getting somewhere 3w
Littlewolf1 It‘s getting harder and harder for me to not continue reading. This is one of my favorite times in the story, and it‘s been so long since I‘ve read it. I just wanna keep going. But I‘m sticking to the three chapters a day, even though I don‘t get to post every day. 3w
Roary47 I‘m with @Laughterhp I don‘t see Rowan as a love interest. I don‘t like him at all, and I like hate to loves so… I don‘t like it! @5feet.of.fury has a point though. She‘s all over the place, and getting her mad might bring her to be a better warrior. Am I caught up? 😍 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.16-18: The witches take to the skies! It‘s interesting that even amongst each other the ironteeth clans can‘t get along and are already planning to seize power from each other. They really should be worrying about the King. You think he‘s going to let them saunter off with his wyverns after his war, to live as they please? That‘s a hard no. ⬇️

StayCurious Infighting is never a good thing. But I wouldn‘t want to work with the yellowlegs either 😒 do we think Dorian can trust Sorscha with his secret? Who is this friend she writes to outside of the palace? What‘s she hiding? 3w
BarkingMadRead So glad we got a peek at the witches again! Caelena needs to stop pushing people away! And Sorscha and Dorian as a pair make me happy, and she didn‘t tell his secret, so that‘s a plus! 3w
See All 10 Comments
LiseWorks So far, I trust Sorchia, and exactly what made Dorian react like that. And I agree that infighting is not a good thing. 3w
Butterfinger I'm glad we got to see the witches with the wyverns. I agree with @BarkingMadRead C needs friends, but I understand why she is aloof. She loses those she loves OR always seems to be betrayed. I want to pass her parts right now. Hurry and erupt, C. 3w
mcctrish I am here for the witches- they need to assume they will be killed by the king , I trust Sorscha - I hate her superior. How is Chaol not dead yet? 3w
5feet.of.fury I‘m coming around to Sorscha she seems to have good intentions. The witches chapters are the best but I can‘t wait to see what Chaol got himself into. 3w
StayCurious @mcctrish he‘s pretty useless, this is true 3w
Laughterhp I like Sorcha so far. The witches are interesting! You would think they‘d get along, but it seems that will never happen. Oh Chaol.. so unaware. 3w
Roary47 I was thinking that too @barkingmadread where S kept D's secret and got in trouble herself. I kind of like her. I want to read more. I'm pretty sure she was one of my favorites when I first read this, but maybe I'm remember a fever dream and it's the opposite. After all I still like Chaol and will mentally hold his hand through these books. Lol! I really like the wyvern part of this section. It was really powerful. I'm almost caught up! 😃 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.13-15: First - Rowan is kind of a d*ck. I get that trainers are often tough - and he wants Celaena to grow to her full potential (for Maeve, not Celaena) but man. He‘s rough. Second - that creature reminded me of the Bogge in ACOTAR. I wonder if it‘s similar or related in some way. Chaol is playing with fire by putting off his dad. He‘d better watch his step. And just what is Aedion up to?

mcctrish Where. Are. The. Witches? 3w
StayCurious @mcctrish agreed - more Manon! 3w
See All 9 Comments
Butterfinger The training reminds me of Chaol's training, except he was not as abusive. The level of arrogance is the same. I need some action. 3w
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I am 💯 here for the witches! Rowan is a dick. I wonder if he‘ll grow on me. Probably not 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead @StayCurious Rowan is a dick, but I‘m also over Celeana‘s shit, she‘d rather get the shit kicked out of her or thrown off a cliff than try 🙄 I wonder if 2 months is enough for Chaol to figure out what is up with Aedion ( he‘s toxic) (edited) 3w
mcctrish @Butterfinger but Celeana is in better shape now than when she came out of prison but it‘s still the same story again 3w
Littlewolf1 Celeana having to relive her trauma is harsh. I wouldn‘t wish that on anybody. She‘s grieving, she feels alone and she‘s been hiding herself for so long that she can‘t trust herself. Rowan is it much help, but I don‘t think he knows how to respond to the situation either. I didn‘t post on the last two day chapters, so I just wanna add that I too really enjoy the chapters with the witches Manon has always been my favorite character. 3w
5feet.of.fury @mcctrish agreeeeee I know she has trauma but she‘s waffling back and forth between snarky badass and a cowering ball of self loathing and picking fights when she could be DOING something 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.10-12: we learn more about the community of Demi-fae where Celaena has been taken to train. Maeve is known to “collect” gifted fae and Demi-fae. What she does with them is a mystery. Maeve will swallow Celaena up once she sees what she can do with her gifts. We also find ourselves back with the witches - all together now. Their numbers have dwindled recently and their magic is limited. ⬇️

StayCurious Will they be able to control these wyvern creatures for the king? I wouldn‘t trust his majesty at all. Hopefully Manon is smart enough to keep an eye out. 3w
BarkingMadRead I don‘t trust any of this! Those wyverns seem terrifying! But Caelena is clean and fed, so that‘s good! And Chaol better watch out! 3w
See All 6 Comments
LiseWorks Those creatures seem to have a mind of their own. 3w
Butterfinger I'm wondering about the duke and the two prisoners. I'm assuming it's Perrington. I really like the 2 cooks. 3w
mcctrish So the witches are where those rings are from, Manon is the sharpest knife in the drawer - and this is the first time I‘m feeling like I remember I read these books before, I know I loved the witches - otherwise I am liking how we got a Chaol chapter, a Celeana chapter and a witch chapter 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.7-9: Celaena is brought before Maeve, her long lost aunt and Fae queen. Considering that Celaena‘s parents were so against Maeve seeing Celaena, I worry this queen is trouble. Rowan has been ordered to train her - he‘s thrilled by the way - and I wonder to what end. Does Maeve want to use Celaena‘s power for her own gains? ⬇️

StayCurious And then we go to the witches who may align themselves with the King of Adarlan - I guess they don‘t care that he‘s evil since it‘ll get them back in the skies. And they‘re not good themselves. Do they realize he‘s the cause of their magic to decline? 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.4-6: We meet a couple more new characters in the scary and badass Manon, and the shy healer Sorscha. We also get a look at how Aedion is when it‘s just him and Dorian (he‘s kind of a d*ck). Chaol is keeping his distance from Dorian for his own good- but Dorian feels a bit betrayed and alone. I know it‘s dangerous but I feel like these two need to find a way to talk and work together. ⬇️

StayCurious The king is up to his usual dark tricks so they need to stand together. Celaena is in fairie territory and they seem to know who she really is. It‘s safe to assume Rowan does as well. 4w
BarkingMadRead Omg that with was something else, total scary badass 🤣 4w

LiseWorks The witch sounds like a character to be feared 😨. I feel bad for Dorian. I hope he can trust someone soon 4w
StayCurious @BarkingMadRead @LiseWorks it‘s the iron teeth that get me 😳 4w
BarkingMadRead So creepy, those teeth! 4w
Laughterhp @LiseWorks the witch was so creepy! Just looking to kill everyone! 4w
5feet.of.fury I like Manon, idk about Sorcha 4w
mcctrish On the one hand the witches seem to do the usual healing work that witches have done for centuries but the iron teeth 😬 4w
Littlewolf1 @5feet.of.fury see, I feel like you get me. The first time I read this chapter, I was like, Manon is my girl. And I gotta say, it has not changed one bit. 4w
Butterfinger Manon is scary. She wants to kill the Chrochan??? witches. I can't remember why. Which tribe is evil? Lol. 4w
StayCurious @Butterfinger if I‘m remembering correctly with Baba yellowlegs, I think the iron teeth witches are mortal enemies of the Crochan witches and are trying to wipe them out. Not sure what started the feud. 3w
Roary47 I like that Dorian acknowledged Sorcha as the one that keeps healing him and his friends. I agree the witch was intense. So my thought is Celeana killed a witch not too long ago. Does a witch need to be in the kings employ. Did I miss that explanation while I‘m trying to catch up? 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3: Ch.1-3: We get right into things with a very downtrodden Celaena in Wendlyn. I think being alone without her friends is dangerous for her. She wallows too much. We meet an interesting new character in the Fae Rowan who is set to take her - probably to his Queen. Good. Make her snap out of her grief. ⬇️

StayCurious Then we catch up with a very stressed out Chaol and Dorian and Celaena‘s cousin, who is also part of the King‘s black ring club. If he is truly as bad as he seems, he has betrayed everything his family stood for. 4w
mcctrish Why is nobody looking into these rings ?!!!!! 4w
See All 13 Comments
StayCurious @mcctrish I know right? Does Dorian notice them? 4w
mcctrish I can‘t remember if he has and now he‘s too busy fretting about his magic - honestly these boys are useless 4w
BarkingMadRead These rings are worrisome, like he uses the rings to control everyone, while they think they‘re in some club. And yikes! How far Celaena has fallen. She needs to get her act together! 4w
Laughterhp Calaena is so depressed right now! Hopefully meeting with the fae snaps her out of it. More black rings!! How many people are in on it?! 4w
LiseWorks Yeah, the ring club is growing, Calaena was getting to me ay the beginning. 4w
Butterfinger @mcctrish the Fae men will get things done. I hope. Two new characters, but I am so glad (I agree, they're useless) that we still have Chaol and Dorian. I was afraid they would fall off the side of the earth. Do you think the rings are compelling (that may be the wrong word) or a symbol of a club? 4w
mcctrish @Butterfinger I think it‘s a control device like the king can zap them or something - Perrington had to be making what‘s her face get headaches with his ( so maybe the king gave Roland headaches with his?) 4w
Littlewolf1 Oh man, Celaena is hurting real bad. You can almost feel how lost she is as she numbs her pain and sadness. @mcctrish the rings almost remind me of the rings of power from Lord of the rings. They‘re given as a gift and it almost feels like people look at them as a symbol of their status and power. A gift that the king has bestowed upon them. Who really pays too much attention to a status symbol. 4w
Read4life Those rings are definitely bad news. Celaena is in a bad way. Hopefully she gets it together before she does something reckless with no one having her back. 4w
Roary47 Oooo @mcctrish That‘s a good thought. They rings controlling them and they get headaches because of it? Hmmm maybe. 3w

This book is so much better than the second in the series, and reminded me why I enjoy SJM. Such a rich depth of character building, from the ones we know the least right up to Celaena. Celaena really processes a lot of grief in this story, and comes to terms with who she really is — in a lot of ways, it‘s her coming of age. Meanwhile, plots and secrets churn all around, with an explosive ending that held lots of surprises. Keen to start the next!

Besides the overkill exposition and similarity in the CaIaena/Chaol and Aelin/Rowan dynamics, I liked this book better than the second book. I think the flipping between characters AND locations is what made this book more dynamic than the first two.

Feeling that this 3rd book is recycling tropes from the first book. Brooding person to help “train” her. A test. She has to prove herself. Plus after 2 full books, I can say that there seems to be too much exposition in these books. A lot of telling vs showing.

Overall, the story in this one‘s pretty interesting as a sort of “middle of the tale” part of the larger plot, but a touch on the inconsistent side. Also, I wish people who are 100+ years old would make decisions that reflect the weight of their lived experienced, even if they are immortal and/or young for their race.
