A little bit Dickens, a little bit Ocean‘s 11.
Worth the hype.
I might be the last person alive to read this & I‘ve had the nice hardcovers for awhile. It‘s just embarrassing.
Again, great banter!! I loved Locke, Jean & Bug! Exactly what I wanted and better than I expected!
Highly recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
My reading view this morning is slightly better than usual…
This has been on my radar for awhile, but a recommendation from my BIL, I was finally convinced. Did this book as a buddy read with my husband, and it was fun to check in about all the unexpected twists as we progressed at different paces.
A good balance of breakneck plot (so many legitimately surprising twists), complex characterization of the MC, and well-realized world building.
6 of Crows fans will enjoy this more adult heist gang story.
I am absolutely unmoved to continue reading Cleopatra and Frankenstein atm and it‘s been stumping me for a week, so I‘m putting that on hiatus and picking this up instead. Because it sounds fun, and fun is better.
Loved getting immersed in the fantasy world of Camorr where Locke and his small gang of thieves use planning, wits, and humor to fleece the ruling class out of their money with elaborate schemes. A long book but a major page-turner as Lynch ratchets up the tension when Locke and his friends are faced with an enemy who wants to destroy the city‘s fragile peace. Great world-building, great characters, excellent read.
Ah, it‘s good to have the fresh air back. The Lies of Locke Lamora is probably the longest book I have attempted to read in quite a long while, but I‘m definitely enjoying it so far!
I loved this book! Yes, it was over 700 pages, but it was worth every one of them! I don‘t even know what to say about it. I always have trouble writing reviews with books I love.
If you like fantasy, world building, rooting for the “bad” guy, pick this one up!

How am I 360 pages into this book, but only on chapter 7?
🧐🧐🧐
Almost halfway through!
I was really sad to discover I did not like this book. Many people who share the same interests when it comes to books told me it was great, but I was mostly uninterested in the plot, the interludes didn't really contribute anything for me, and many parts of what was going on felt both disjointed and very straightforward instead of intriguing. I don't think I'll continue this series, to my regret.

There were a few contenders for best L book but I ended up with Lies of Locke Lamora because it's such a great book
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I can‘t tell you how much this made me giggle. Beware, being imaginary is catching!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Here are the 13 books I‘m hoping to read and or not read for #ShelfofShame
I‘m going to try and read 1 a month with 1 month reading 2. A lot of these books are either shelved as bailed on goodreads or are still sitting in my currently reading shelf.
I‘m sure there are more books with bookmarks in my book piles, but I can‘t access all my books right now.
Thanks for this awesome challenge @Clwojick
December #bookspin is ready!
Can‘t believe it‘s the last one of the year. I spent way too long figuring which reads I wanted to end the year with. Thanks to the long weekend, I now have most of the library books sitting on my digital shelf in preparation.
Final list of 2021 @TheAromaofBooks 😊

So, everybody's fuzzing about Locke Lamora. I was pretty sure that this wouldn't be a book for me. But when a fellow challenge participant asked to read it together, I was intrigued. One can still DNF after a while, right?
Well... Turns out that I listened to the 25 hours audio book within no time. Now I know what the fuzz is all about, and I'm totally fuzzing along. I was so captivated and couldn't get myself to stop. This Locke guy is such ⬇

This was a re-read for me so I can finally read the next two books. I enjoyed this even more this time around. I feel like I picked up on the details more. This is such a great heist story and the world and the characters are excellent.
I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
Really good book, cool world building, exciting and engaging. Lots of crazy situations and thief stuff. Unfortunate that these books have been hard to find. Hopefully will continue the series in the future.

An excellent fantasy series!
I‘ve read through the three books available and hope Lynch is hard at work on the fourth book! 📚
Some series I want to get to soon!
What should I read first? 🤔😊
If anyone wants this let me know they sent me two 😬🤦🏼♀️
That awkward moment when your library loan comes in and you don't remember requesting it 🤭
I've read over a hundred pages, and I just cannot get into this book. I wish I could, but I am not finding it compelling enough to keep my attention. I'm curious about the world and such, but there just isn't a spark for me. Maybe I'll try it again someday, but there are too many other books calling to me at the moment.
I really loved the Gentleman Bastards. I felt their pain, celebrated their victories, marvelled at the deceptions... absolutely adored this book.
For fear that I will cross the line between review and spoiler I will say no more but that I highly recommend this book.
What I should be doing is working, but what I want to be doing is starting my next book club read. Hmm...decisions...decisions... 🤔
Just having a sort out and came across a travel diary I‘d kept whilst we were on our honeymoon. Had a little chuckle at my enthusiasm to find a LIBRARY in the hotel!
Edit: The tagged book was why I was reading, though I found The Girl with All the Gifts on the library and read that too.
#LastFirst - last book of the year was The Iron Hunt, which was eh. I think my first book will be the tagged. I started it yesterday but put it down for a book I‘d actually finish.
Update, for those following the drama: the Amazon rep lied to me outright; they DID deduct the cost of shipping the return from my refund, and I have no recourse. I wish I‘d just kept the extra copy and given it to someone who would have appreciated it. Fucking Amazon, every time.
I wasn't too crazy about this book. I felt like the story was overly complicated in some places. I felt like Locke was supposed to be similar character to Sanderson's Kelsier. Where Kelsier feels clever AND human. Locke felt a bit like a character where the writer had made a decision to make him clever and that's it. Ofcourse he has also other personality traits but he doesn't feel human enough to compete in the same category as Kelsier. 🤔
Started listening to this. The start is very promising! 😊
1️⃣ ohhhh, my list is so long!!! South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Scandinavia, Russia...want to see it all!
2️⃣ No challenges for me at the moment. With a little girl that doesn't sleep too much without mommy near and studies to finish, I'm glad I get to read at all! What I would like to finish is the tagged book. Started it a couple months ago, almost finished and then didn't🥴
#wondrouswednesday
@Eggs
Thanks for the tag @Deifio
Supported my local indie for #SmallBusinessSaturday I was able to get my book for the #jolabokaflod swap and get myself some goodies
I got a blind book with a date. The hints are Young Adult Fiction, WWII, Myth and Orpheus - Any guesses? I haven‘t opened it yet!
#20series20days @Andrew65
Locke Lamora and his crew of Gentlemen Bastards plot and scheme like no other band of misfits I‘ve ever known. His childhood reminds me just a bit of Oliver Twist, in a good way, but these are mainly his adult adventures of trying to rob from the rich. Scott Lynch is a master storyteller!
(I‘m afraid I must have lent out Red Seas, book 2... I don‘t know where it is! May have to buy another copy!)
This is the first book I thought of for the prompt #heist. What if the Artful Dodger grew up on an alien planet now occupied by humans in a pseudo-renaissance society and then formed an Oceans Eleven type crew to con the rich? This is the first book in a series, featuring the Gentlemen Bastards. It was a lot of fun, though I‘ve not yet managed to read on in the series. 😬
#tropesinaugust
I was having a bad day today (nothing major; I was fed up, the kids were fed up, just a bunch of fed up people today) so I popped to the local charity shop and cheered myself up with this book haul!!! 😀 📚
#IfYouLikeThisMovie #DieHard
Then you‘ll enjoy this action packed book of cross upon double cross and big fiery explosions of a type of vehicle in the book - a wooden ship!
(Realized I skipped this movie)
What a whirlwind of a book, it SHOULD not have taken me this long to finish it 😅 4/5
