I'm so sorry to clutter your feed with a picture of a lemon ?, but I couldn't resist buying this amazing fruit, it looked so tempting! Now, to justify buying it, I'm making a White Lady cocktail ?, and to justify posting about it, I'm going to read the story in which I first came across the drink, Tove Jansson's eponymous "White Lady" from the tagged story collection ???

TieDyeDude I'm glad you got that all sorted BEFORE you started drinking 😅 1w
Bookwomble @TieDyeDude I genuinely fell in love with that lemon first then had to think of something to do with it 😄 It's an Italian Amalfi lemon, and a tad more expensive than your common lemon, so a bit of a treat, but it sure did taste good, even before I added it to gin! 1w
batsy Never apologise for lovely photos! It's like a still life painting featuring lemon 😁🍋 1w
Anna40 😆 I like the lemon too. It‘s gray here in the north of Michigan so sunny yellow is nice 😉 1w
marleed Lovely pic! 1w
Cathythoughts That‘s a great photo 💛 7d

I read this collection yesterday & found many to be relatable & humorous. Awkward life comics along the lines of Sarah Andersen.

Branwen I have definitely been known to stand in my apartment if I hear neighbors in the hallway and wait for them to leave before opening my door! 😂🤣 2mo

Pickpick

This book was a rather odd but delightful journey around Finland. I was by turns baffled by the main character Vatanen‘s choices and amused by the resulting events. Compared to much of my reading it was a generally lighter and entertaining read, although Vatanen does make some choices that get him into a some serious scrapes.

This short novel was my #bookspin for February. I'm not sure I quite know what it is about Tove Jansson's books that appeals to me so much. These characters made me want to revisit the Moomin books. I assume that Jonna, like Too-Ticky in the Moomin stories, was based on Tuulikki Pietilä. If you like The Summer Book, I think you'd like this, too.

JuniperWilde I loved the Summer Book and agree that there is something unusually compelling about her writing. 2mo

Artistic and deceptively simple, this is about work and creativity and love. It‘s a slim novel of interconnected short stories. This has been on my TBR shelf for a couple of years, but thanks to #BookSpin I can now move it to my Read shelf! This was my #DoubleSpin pick ✅

Thanks to @Eggs @eeclayton

1. I did OK on my (loose) goals:
Participate in all #FoodandLit challenges: I read a book for every month ✔, but I sometimes cheated a bit on the home cooking front
Read books set in the Creuse department of France: ✔
I am happy with my progress w/ my Global Challenge (https://www.librarything.com/topic/338585): I added a few countries to the list, and reached the 5-book goal for some ✔

Dilara 2. Tagged book - but my current read, Gorge d'or, may well pipe it to the post. Looks like this is a good month for Finnish literature!

3. Looking forward to starting Homegoing for Food and Lit's Ghanaian month.

Still enjoying Gorge d‘or (golden throat - after a place in Finland with a mountain side that looks like a golden-throated bear). Shown next to the toy tea set I got for the grandchild and the lovely Xmas rooibos I received.

1. Tagged book, set in the primary forests of Finland. I didn't choose this read specifically for the season/solstice, but it contains descriptions of winter that are quite fitting 😁 (it's not a winter read, though - there are pages on every season)
2. No
3. No, but we're more likely to enjoy a bit of communal reading where everybody has their nose in the books they got for Christmas.
