October / #Screamathon Wrap-up!
One final one for #Halloween. It‘s also my #doublespin and gives me my first and only #bookspinbingo for October.
Last year I treated myself to a print copy of the tagged after listening to it for the first time. This year my treat was this Dracula nutcracker because it‘s the perfect mashup of my 2 favourite things! 🎃🧛♀️🩰🖤❤️

I am not sure why I missed reading/listening to this Ray Bradbury classic Halloween book before but it was an enjoyable listen last night (narrated by Bronson Pinochet). Lightly spooky & a good review of Halloween traditions around the world. I think it will fill a square in a #LittenListen bingo & 26 points for my #TeamHendrix scorecard with it‘s Halloween title & focus.
Thank you thank you, Sharon! This book is totally up my Halloween alley, I'm so excited to read it! And I love the orange edges and added colours and spooky stickers throughout, can't wait to find them all as I read 😁
Thanks a million @DinoMom and thanks to our always awesome organizer @LibrarianRyan 🎉🎉🎉
I love Bradbury (Dandelion Wine is one of my favorite books EVAH), but had never read this one… I decided to listen because of how much another of my swap partners @PatriciaU loves it, and I‘m so glad I did!
A quick, spooky story starts with a haunted house, continues with a creepy character taking some trick-or-treaters through time to see the history & meaning of Halloween. All with Bradbury‘s amazing & touching storytelling.🖤
Week 2 Score (NOT cumulative): 1,384.50.

As I crossed the threshold of my home on my way to the Post Office, I noticed that my #HauntedHollowSwap has arrived! What a big mail day! 🎃
Kelly, I don‘t see your Litsy handle anywhere on the outside, so I‘m not tagging you directly…but thank you (in advance)! I love the stickers! 💀
Found on Tubi the 1993 animated made for TV movie that has Bradbury as the narrator and Leonard Nimoy voices Carapace Clavacle Moundshroud 😂 it was pretty good!

If you haven't listened to this Colonial Radio Theater version, you're missing out. It's so great! Highly recommend!

The Halloween Tree was my 2nd October read of the month and actually more terrifying than I was expecting for something classified as a middle grades book. I was impressed for sure. #audiobook #bingo #screamathon #spookoween #littenlisten #scarathlon #teamhendrix

So good thing I read like a fiend👹 the beginning of the year because that mid year slump was a killer🪦. I like to vote in the Goodreads choice awards, so to fight my slump and give me the best chance of voting I'm only reading 2021 releases for Oct and Nov. Except for some of the free spaces, could be older audio books and joining in a group read. Thank you for all you do!
Happy October, friends! I took an extended break from all things bookish (including Litsy 😕) because of a wicked book slump and grown up annoying things! But I think I'm finally excited to get back to reading and seriously need the downtime. Thank you to everyone that tagged me while I was away including @DarkMina and @eggs. I'm gonna get into Bookspin Bingo @TheAromaofBooks if I can, have my list ready to post. Missed seeing all of your posts!
I never read this as a kid & I didn't know what to expect now. If you said it was a thinly disguised history lesson, I wouldn't have believed you. 🎃🧙♀️👻
October #Bookspin list! I keep thinking I can‘t wait to read ALL of these books in October when I have to remind myself that I might read 6 🤦🏻♀️. The 24-hour readathon is at the end of the month, so I included some short, quick, fall-themed books for that.
Today‘s prompt of “Come Little Children” made me think of Bradbury‘s The Halloween Tree. A group of friends excitedly meet up for trick-or-treating, only to have one of their crew snatched away. The rest of them take a journey through time and the history of Halloween in hopes of finding and saving their pal.

“The sky was swept clean with brooms.
The sky was yelled clean by boys occupying at least eight of those brooms at once.
And what with changing their cries of fear to cries of delight, the boys almost forgot to look back or listen for Pipkin, similarity sailed off among island clouds.”

My favorite time of the year!🎃
Thank you so much for the tag @5feet.of.fury 😊
🎃1. PSL, basic or not, they are delicious.
🎃2. Candy corn pumpkins, but I just can't.
🎃3. Oh yeah, I do a kind of Edgar Allen Poe thing on my mantle.
🎃4. Any vampire 🧛♂️ or witch 🧙book.
🎃5. Coffee cups, blankets, crafts supplies.
🎃6. My kindle and bookmarks
2. Russell Stover dark chocolate marshmallow pumpkin 🎃🍫
3. Yes, except I never take them down 👻 #halloweenyearround
4. Last year, I really enjoyed the tagged
5. Funkos, Legos, & jigsaw puzzles (although I have quite a few that have a bookish theme)
6. Magnetic bookmarks, miniature books, & socks (socks count, right? I mean I need cool, bookish, comfy socks to read, so therefore socks must count as a bookish item 😆)
My #spookyaesthetic for #HauntedHollowSwap - best time of the year! I listen to the audio version of The Halloween Tree every year - it is the perfect Halloween story. I love Autumn in general - the vibrant colors, the apple harvest, playing in the fallen leaves, baking, carving jack-o-lanterns, reading spooky stories, and trick-or-treating.
It‘s the best Litsy time of the year! 🎃
Signed up for the #HauntedHollowSwap hosted by the inimitable @wanderinglynn ✨!
The #HHS is one of my favorite swaps & I‘ve come to look forward to it each year.
If you‘re looking to register, too, you can do that here:

1. You don't have to join every argument you are invited to. You can't control other people, but you can control how you react. From a former boss.
2. Me holding my cousin's baby a couple Halloween's ago in my Halloween dress and wig.
It's extremely rare for me to read seasonally, oddly enough Ray Bradbury seems to have become my favorite seasonal author. Not as impressive as Something Wicked This Way Comes, which I think of as a fall book and would read any time of year, but just absolutely delightful & a quick read. It's a shame I didn't read October Country. Maybe next year.
(Side note: My macabre heart longs for horror books all year long, I don't think of them as seasonal)
Going to try to squeeze in one more book over the next few hours. Should have time to read it. Tonight I'm making nachos & watching a horror movie.
