If you're a fan of audiobooks join @Allylu for #audioJune. This is my tentative list.

Have you listened to any of these?
What is your favorite audiobook?

Ok Littens! I‘m trying to decide which of these three audiobooks I should start on my way home from work tomorrow. Have you listened to any of these? Which do you suggest?

Daisey I haven‘t listened to any, but I have Braiding Sweetgrass on my list to get to at some point. I‘ll be curious to hear what you think when you listen. 4y
VeganCleopatra The Fascism book was pretty good but I haven't read the other two so I don't know if my vote is any help. 4y
Soubhiville I loved Braiding Sweetgrass. It‘s the only one of the three I‘ve read. 4y
Amandajoy @Daisey @VeganCleopatra @Soubhiville thanks for the input! I went with Fascism, because Braiding Sweetgrass wasn‘t downloaded like I thought. 4y

MaureenMc Are you thinking of Libra.fm? 4y
Chrissyreadit @MaureenMc YES!!! Thank you! 4y
LibrarianRyan Libro.fm. Not the astrological sign. they are really cool. 4y
See All 9 Comments
MaureenMc @Chrissyreadit @LibrarianRyan Oops, didn‘t catch the typo. Thanks! 4y
sprainedbrain There‘s also audiobooks.com. But I love Libro.fm for supporting my local indie. 4y
Chrissyreadit @sprainedbrain it was libro I was looking for but audiobook has better pricing- I just left audible and joined libro for now- what do you use? 4y
sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit I mainly use the library for my audiobooks. I have 2 out of state library cards that I pay the annual fee for, and that saves me tons of money. I don‘t really care to own audiobooks, since I rarely listen twice, so this works for me. Of course, I join Libro or Audible about once a year when there‘s something the library doesn‘t have yet that I just can‘t wait for. Or when they have a sale. 😂 4y
sprainedbrain For instance, Audible sent an email not too long ago that if I joined again I could get the first three months for $6.95 per month, so I took that deal. Once the 3 months are up I will cancel again. 😬 4y
Chrissyreadit That makes sense! I share many of my audiobooks with my kids- and we all listen to them at various times so I have to own them- but I have many that have not been listened to yet. Goals for the New Year! Once my mom moved to WV we stopped driving to NYC every month. I actually miss the uninterrupted family book time. 4y

julesG No, there are some genres where audiobooks don't always work for me. 😁 Some non-fiction, especially the ones that heavily rely on graphics and figures and numbers, I find hard to follow. Or epistolary books narrated by just one narrator. 5y
julesG And YA fantasy only works with the speed turned up to 1.25 or 1.5 even. 😁 5y
ShyBookOwl I like to listen to memoirs read by the author on audio. For fiction, I'm just picky about narrators. I find fantasy tough because the narrators are often too dramatic / theatrical for me. 5y
See All 10 Comments
Prairiegirl_reading It‘s all about the narrator for me. 5y
Nessavamusic I agree with @Prairiegirl_reading it‘s all about the narrator. 5y
marleed It‘s the narration for me, as well. There‘s some books I‘ll choose based on my favorite narrators. ... I track my books read but pay no attention to whether it was by ebook, audio, or physical. Once I‘ve consumed a story, format becomes irrelevant. 5y
Tove_Reads Yes, narrator is naturally important. I‘ve now had three repeating and slow books one after another (Hunger, Someday, Someday Maybe and Guilt) and they did not work for me. 1.25 speed for me. I think non-fic, cozy mysteries and actually forward moving books work for me. @julesG @ShyBookOwl @Prairie girl_reading @Nessavamusic @marleed Sadly, Lauren Graham reading her book didn‘t make it good ☹️ 5y
ShyBookOwl @Tove_Reads that is sad! Oh, and I agree that cozy mysteries tend to work well on audio. The pace is right for the format, I guess. 5y
Reviewsbylola For me, no. I only listen to non fiction. Typically true crime and memoirs. 5y
shadowspeak17 I don‘t think they work for every book. This one, for example, I can‘t see how it could possibly be made into an audio book. There‘s so much about the text that needs to be taken in visually and there‘s a lot of footnotes and appendixes as well. I don‘t think an audiobook could do it justice. 5y

TheSpineView @Leftcoastzen It was a new, new puzzle. Opened the box and the pieces were sealed in a bag. Sigh... 5y
Laughterhp Depending on the company the puzzle is from, you may be able to complain and they‘ll send you a free puzzle. I did that once but I forget the company it was. 5y
TheSpineView @Laughterhp Good thought! 5y
Laughterhp Or I think they might send you the piece you are missing. I think I got a new puzzle because they were out of stock of the puzzle I did. 5y

I‘ve got a couple of Audible credits to use up before I cancel my Audible membership and they bribe me to come back in 6 months (what? everyone does that, right?! 😂) I check most audiobooks out through Overdrive, so they have to be great for me to use a credit on them. Tell me some of your recent favorites!!!

Laura317 The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery, Station Eleven Emily St. John Mendel, The Graveyard Book and Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, amor Towels‘ A Gentleman in Moscow. I have more ideas if you want them. 😂 6y

I really enjoyed the post today from @annebogel (Modern Mrs Darcy)! Some of you also may be familiar with her podcast, What Should I Read Next too. Summer has been a prime time for audio books for me. And if your like me or just enjoy a good audio book then check her top list of 6!! (Not too overwhelming which is why I like it too) let me know what you think!! https://modernmrsdarcy.com/recent-audiobooks/?ck_subscriber_id=66405142

BBooks I ❤️ audio books!!! I get most from the Library Overdrive app and Audible. I love books narrated by the author 99% of the time. Neil Gaiman 5⭐️ and David Sedaris 5⭐️. I look forward to checking out this list 🎧 📚 6y
BookaholicNatty @BBooks audiobooks have been such a big part of my life especially in the car when I‘m driving. Some books just come to life this way and I agree the narrator totally makes or breaks the audiobook. I love when the author reads them too. I also love love love full cast audio books!! They are the best! There are some books that just don‘t work on audio tho, I have discovered that out in the past few months!! (edited) 6y
Birdsong28 Listen to the tagged book as it is read by the author and it doesn't feel like a book being read just him talking to you about his life 6y

HELLO FRIENDS! So I notice a ton of y‘all listen to audiobooks. I used to and always enjoyed it, and would love to start up again. My question is, what app do you use to listen? Audible seems so pricey.....
THANK YOU!! Oh, and Yoda says WOOF. 😁😍👋🏻

AmyG I use my library card. Overdrive and Hoopla 6y
CBee @AmyG thank you 😊 6y
CoffeeNBooks I just discovered recently that I can borrow them from the library, and download them onto my phone through the Overdrive app. 6y
See All 23 Comments
JoScho I use my library and scribd. 6y
JoScho Also hello yoda 😘 6y
Soubhiville I used both Hoopla and Libby, free audiobooks from the library! I agree, audible is overpriced considering as long as you‘re patient you can get them through the library. 6y
Trashcanman This is one of the perks of having two in life friends. 6y
8little_paws Scribd!!!! I loooove it. Use my link to sign up and you'll get 60 days free: https://www.scribd.com/ga/4dob3y 6y
GripLitGrl I use libby & hoopla both linked to my library card so free audiobooks works with digital books also 6y
CBee @JoScho he sends little furry kisses 😘. I have two female dogs who lick everyone to death, then I get Yoda and he is such a gentleman. The other two just assault you 😂😂 (edited) 6y
tracey38 Aw, he is so cute! 6y
CBee @tracey38 thank you 😊 6y
CouronneDhiver Overdrive with my library card 6y
mrozzz Audible has sales often! But Overdrive is also good if you have a library card. 🙃 6y
SassyBookworm I can‘t live without my Libby app and most recently Hoopla! I am never with out an audiobook now! Listen to them all the time! 6y
Weaponxgirl I love scribd atm, a great selection and they've gone back to you being able to listen to as much as you want in a month. 6y
CBee @Weaponxgirl downloaded Scribd and it looks great! @8little_paws thanks for the link! 6y
8little_paws @CBee you're welcome!! I love it not just for audiobooks but ebooks on my kindle as well. It's seriously Netflix for readers. I find it the perfect supplement to my local library, between those 2 sources I rarely even buy books any more because I feel I have so many at my disposal. I honestly don't get why someone would choose audible over it tbh, I've used both and scribd is a waaaaay better deal. 6y
8little_paws Also did I totally neglect to comment on the cuteness of this pupperz?? 6y
CBee @8little_paws now to finally get that library card! I can‘t believe I don‘t have one 🙄 Yoda says thank you. He knows he‘s cute 😁 6y
jfalkens Call your library and see what apps they support. My library uses Libib, Overdrive and Hoppla. I use Libib or Overdrive. I couldn't get Hoopla to work, there's a bug in the sign-up for my library. 6y
CBee @jfalkens thank you 😁 6y

With the wedding coming up and work going into the busy season I'm way behind on my physical TBR pile. On the other hand, I'm blowing through audio books like crazy. So, I've made a new reading resolution. For every one book I listen to and don't own I'm going to listen to two books off my physical TBR pile. It's not quite the same as reading them, but at this rate I'll never catch up if I don't change something. 🎧📚💓

Ubookquitous Yes, same for me - ebooks and physical books have been a slow go but I‘m at 32 or 33 audiobooks 6y

2. Library! I used to do Scribd, but the #Libby app is so amazing I didn‘t need it anymore!
3. Usually 1.25-1.5 sped up
4. I love when an author reads their own work, especially memoirs

Question for my Litsy friends: Do you consider audio books in your count of books read for the year? I do but it almost feels as though I‘m cheating or padding the number. But I run through quite a few on my commute to work and I enjoy them nearly as much as the printed word. Your thoughts?

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I am old school and I have never listened to one!!!! But I would say that they should count!! 👍🏻 6y
TLVZ721 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks , I was the same way for a long time and it took a few well-narrated books to change my mind. My favorite are the ones that have multiple narrators. It makes it more interesting! 😊 But nothing beats the real thing! ❤️📚 6y
ReadingSusan Listening to an audiobook is certainly not cheating! A book isn‘t only read if you physically read it with your eyes. It‘s just someone else reading to you. In fact it can take me twice as long to listen to a book than read it so definitely not cheating. 6y
See All 10 Comments
TLVZ721 @ReadingSusan , I can‘t listen to a narrator whose voice it too relaxing...I fall asleep every time! (Not while driving, of course! Lol) 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TLVZ721 I need to try one!!! 6y
AmyG I count them as read. So YES (edited) 6y

ChasingOm I'm such a quick reader that sometimes audiobooks take LONGER to read! Also, there are just as many choices of what to listen to as what to do, so anytime you choose a book, it counts as reading! 7y
dariazeoli I count them and I listen to them on double speed. Rebel! 🤘🏻 7y

#24in48 challenge! 3 audiobooks for road trips:

1. Outlander - Davina Porter does an amazing narration. I love this entire series, and each book is so long that you could probably only take one book to listen to and still not run out of story

2. Harry Potter series - Above comments work for narration - go Jim Dale!

3. Pride and Prejudice - I can't say a specific narration, but if I'm planning a road trip, Austen must come along!

TheBookStacker Harry Potter is my favorite on audio. 7y

#teachersoflitsy HELP! Do you use audio books in your classroom? If so, how do you manage them?

Lauren_reading I had iPods donated by friends and I download audiobooks on to those for a listening station. I teach kinder so the books are short so sometimes I just record myself reading books for them to listen to 7y
Onlaughterandliteracy @LaurenReads what a great idea! Did you just ask people for old iPods? Did you set them back to the factory reset? 7y
kendrastephaniekaryn I teach high school ELA, and my classes are very low academically. I use audiobooks so that kids can listen again at their own pace if need be. I'm using The Hunger Games on audio instead of reading to them next year. Our school division uses Overdrive, so that's handy. 7y
See All 12 Comments
Onlaughterandliteracy @kendrastephaniekaryn so you listen to them as a whole class? Or do they listen individually? 7y
Lauren_reading @Onlaughterandliteracy I asked on Facebook and my friends/family sent me older ones they had and no longer used. I reset them if they weren't already and I was good to go! I had 3 to start, but now have 6. 7y
kendrastephaniekaryn @Onlaughterandliteracy As a whole class. I've thought about doing literacy circles/book clubs using them, but we just don't have the technology for them to listen individually. 7y
Onlaughterandliteracy @LaurenReads loving this idea!! Thank you! 7y
Onlaughterandliteracy @kendrastephaniekaryn I totally understand the struggle. I want to have a checkout system for kids to be able to listen to books on tape, but I just don't have the technology. I've thought about a donors choose, I just need to decide how I want to approach it. Plus, iPods are expensive! 7y
kendrastephaniekaryn @Onlaughterandliteracy They sure are! Oh the things I could do if I had access to all the technology I want! 7y
drokka Would you be able to use something like Overdrive? That app can be used in PCs as well as MP3 players. I don't know if that would help at all. Maybe your local public library system has some tools? What about a University or college. Perhaps there's a tech program that might have suggestions. 7y
Daisey In middle school we offer OverDrive accounts to all students through the local library on personal devices at home and I've had success getting a few to use it. I also have some audiobooks I own on MP3 CD that kids can borrow. I've been considering a way to use QR codes for access to some MP3 audiobooks saved in my Google Drive. 7y
ninergrl6 Fortunately my students (high school) have iPads and often listen to audiobooks on their own. In class I occasionally play audiobooks, particularly for plays, from my desktop computer (via iTunes, mp3s, cd, etc) and pause frequently to discuss as a class. I've put mp3s on Google drive before, but that's usually to share with my coworkers, not students. 7y

Heading to the river this weekend and it is a 5 hour drive to our cabin! I need a good audiobook for the road! I use overdrive...let's hear those suggestions. Thanks in advance, Litens!😻

missevievelyn I recently listened to The Golden Compass on audio (as a reread)--it's full cast for the dialogue, with Phillip Pullman himself as the narrator, and is absolutely AMAZING. A bit longer than you're looking for though! I also enjoyed Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier and Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis and Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel on audio! 7y
BookInMyHands The Hate U Give was amazing. I loved the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Beauty Queens by Libby Bray was hilarious. Any particular interests? 7y
sammisho @missevievelyn I listened to the whole Golden Compass series on audio and loved it! And a little long is okay, I listen on my commute everyday. My current audiobook just isn't going to last me until we leave on Friday! 7y

sammisho @BookInMyHands I loved Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle series. I am a big scify/fantasy fan. Loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series on audio. And Coldest Girl in Coldtown 7y
sammisho @BookInMyHands Also recently listened to The Underground Railroad and loved that. I love listening to Neil Gaiman read his own books. Really open to anything but romance. I read romance but do not want to listen to it! 7y
missevievelyn @sammisho yay, they're so excellent!! I sped through The Subtle Knife and my hold on The Amber Spyglass just came in, I can't wait to start it! 7y
BookInMyHands What about Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men series on audio? They are incredibly well done as well as being funny and clever. They are what I go back to when I just need something wonderful and familiar. 7y
BookInMyHands Also, I too love Neil Gaiman reading his own books. Few authors can do that well. Have you listened to Sherman Alexie read the below book? My husband thought he didn't like audiobooks I made him listen to that. After we laughed so hard we cried and then cried some more he decided that I might be on to something with the audiobooks... 7y
sammisho @BookInMyHands Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into that Terry Prachett book. I love Neil Gaiman too! I have Neverwhere on hold, but don't think it will be available in time. Graveyard Book on audio is my favorite! And love Part-Time Indian, but read it in print. maybe I will do a reread on audio!? 7y
ButterlyUtterly I've been listening to 'Pretty Girls' by Karen Slaughter - it's really good! A thriller, pretty morbid! 7y

Hey friends! I need your help. I need a new audiobook and want to hear what your favorite one is. I love series (Outlander, HP, Gail Carriger's books and Game of Thrones are some of my faves on audio). Any recommendations? Thanks!!

queerbookreader My mom has been listening to Evanovich's really long mystery series on audiobook and she seems to like it (there are 23 books so you have a lot to work with!). She also listens to a lot of Randy Wayne White books on audiobook and she likes those, although I don't know much about his list of book series. 7y

The hubs and I are road tripping this weekend, I'm looking for great audio book recommendations. Please give me some ideas!

bio_chem06 No seriously, what are some good road trip audio books I should check out? 7y
BookInMyHands Just finished his one and loved it. Fascinating true story and well read too. 7y
BookInMyHands What would happen if beauty queens were stranded on a desert island together? Snarky, funny, adventurous. 7y
BookInMyHands When her best friend (male & black) is murdered in front of her by a police officer she is left to figure out her life in the aftermath. I laughed out loud and I cried. Bahni Turpen is one of my favorite narrators. 7y
BookInMyHands Utterly charming and laugh-out-loud funny. It's the start of a humorous fantasy series, and if you love a Scottish accent it's definitely for you. (I'll stop now, I promise 😬) 7y

Can someone recommend a couple audiobooks?
I'm on my last one in my list and need a couple more.
No genre preference as long as the narrator is good 😊

Thanks!

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Anansi Boys was extremely fun and Sir Lenny Henry's voice was perfect. 7y
Samary @TobeyTheScavengerMonk ooohhhh... I listened to the 10 Year anniversary of American Gods w the full cast. I will take a look at the audio! Thank you! 7y

Do you or your teenager need free audiobooks for the summer? Well you're in luck! It's Audiobook Sync time again!

Every summer from May-August they offer two free audiobook downloads each week. It's one YA title, paired with an adult fiction or nonfiction title.

This week's downloads (you have to download via the Overdrive app), are Feed by M.T. Anderson and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

saresmoore Cool! Thank you for sharing! 7y

#audiobooks ok fellow Litsy friends I have never bought or listened to an audio book. I would like to try at least one. I have a Kindle fire HD, but I'm not sure how getting one works or how to look at reviews on the narrator's reading voice/pace. Any opinions or advice?

CouronneDhiver Can't help but I do hope you enjoy it... great way to squeeze in some extra reading time! I use the Overdrive app on my iPhone for mine. 7y
GypsyKat I've only been using Audible. There are reviews on there. Other than that, my first instinct would be to Google audio book reviews for whatever title you're interested in. 7y
[DELETED] 206653737 I use overdrive and borrow audiobooks from my local library, that would be a good start to be sure you like audiobooks. You could always check Goodreads for reviews. That's usually my go to for reviews, well and here of course. I always thought audiobooks were sort of cheating but now that I've gotten into them I seem to keep one going all the times. Good luck! 7y
aroc Audiobooks are great if you get a good narrator. RC Bray is the best book performer I have ever listened to! He does mostly science fiction but the way he tells the story is the best! He took The Martian to the next level! I laughed out loud! Columbus Day: Expeditionary Force Book 1 is my new favorite. Enjoy! 7y

Hmmm, what do you think? (Whether you live in the USA or not) Article: https://qz.com/924075/audiobook-readers-obsessed-with-multitasking-are-driving-a...

Lindy Well, even though I listen to audiobooks all the time (about a dozen in a month) it's not about multitasking in my case. I just don't want to stop reading. 20 years ago, I found that reading print books on the bus to and from work gave me a headache, so I switched to cassettes, then CDs. Now digital access is like a dream! 7y
EclecticReaders @Lindy Nice! Glad audiobooks work so well for you! 😃 7y
KateTheBookworm I think it's pretty off the mark. The author came at this article with their mind already made up about why people listen to more audiobooks. The anecdotal evidence proposed doesn't necessarily even support the claim. 7y

For anyone using #playster.... I'm so happy with the latest update. The bugs seem to be gone, and we FINALLY have some of the features I love about Audible (sleep timer, bookmarks etc). Woohoo!

JoeStalksBeck Oh I love this audiobook! Emogen Church is so good! Her version of Nina is excellent! 7y

I've never listened to an audio book, and I've noticed that quite a few people on here do. Just out of curiosity: where do you get your audio books? (Ive seen them at B&N, but they're a bit pricey for me) #audiobook

LisaJo I use OverDrive, the library app and listen to them on my smart phone. I like free. 7y
annahenke Ditto to local library overdrive. Also, I have an audible membership. 7y
RadicalReader @Tera0707 so completely accurate and funny too 7y
Bookladylinda My library, I agree they are pricey and I would rather spend money on actual books. 7y

I have a mixed opinion about audiobooks. Here are some of my thought about this topic (and recommendations):

https://wellreadneck.wordpress.com/2017/03/13/my-lovehate-relationship-with-audi...

minkyb Still have not taken the leap. I'm working towards diving in. 7y
Reecaspieces I love them...I keep headphones in my ears while cleaning house, exercising, driving. And if I could get away with it....church 😂 (edited) 7y
Sace I have no problem listening to The Great Courses lectures, but I struggle with any fiction or book- length non-fiction. 7y

RealLifeReading Great post! I don't have a commute either so I don't listen to many audiobooks (also I am a fast reader so I cannot stand slow narrators!). So far I've only listened to nonfiction. 7y
Lcsmcat Thanks for the recommendations. I have a long commute and have been pondering supplementing my NPR habit with some audiobooks. But I've not listened to any since Harry Potter, which we listened to on road trips as they came out. 7y
britt_brooke Thanks for sharing this! I've still not tried audio, mostly because I need to have open ears to hear my little guys at pretty much all times. Maybe one day. 7y
Kangaj1 Great post! I have a shorter commute, but I chauffeur my kids around too, so I listen to both podcasts and audio. I love memoir on audio. Others I have enjoyed on audio include Station Eleven, All the Light We Cannot See, The Sleepwalker (though one character's voice was like nails on a chalkboard), Veronica Mars, and Monuments Men. 7y
Flaneurette This is helpful, thank you! I have been trying to get into abooks for a bit but having trouble concentrating. I've tried lighter plottier books but they are just not my thing and I feel are a waste of time (for me). I've been doing some nonfiction but have encountered the same issues as you. I am going to check out The Sympathizer and American Housewife per your recs. Also thumbs up to Moonpies!! 7y
AmandaL I love audiobooks, even non-fiction, but I had to stop listening to Rick Riordan's Magnus Chase. My youngest liked it, but I found the narration grating. 7y
TheHeartlandBookFairy Well this was Timely! On my bookish bucket list for this year, I had several things. 1-get better at using Goodreads. I am now using it regularly. 2-get into using litsy, and here I am 😊 3-explore the world of audiobooks and see if I enjoy it or not. I installed the Hoopla app on my phone about a year ago but haven't used it much. What do you all use? What devices do you use it on? How does that affect battery life? Pros and cons? Thanks! 7y
readinginthedark @TheHeartlandBookFairy I usually use Audible or Overdrive for audiobooks, or sometimes just the Internet browser. This is on my iPhone. In the car, I listen to audio CDs. The Audible app drains a bit more battery than the others, but it's still not bad. 7y
TheHeartlandBookFairy I felt like Hoopla was a bit draining. It might not be so bad except when I'm already out of the house for 10 hours. I haven't tried audible, our local library used to use OverDrive. My library account is connected to the Hoopla app. I may just look into CDs for the commute even though it's short. Thanks for the info! 7y

People of Litsy! I'm looking for advice/opinions again. I'm considering buying a Kindle Fire because I would really like to get more into audiobooks and digital books. Does anyone have a one that they use for both? What are your favorite sources for audiobooks, and is reading digital books on a Kindle Fire tiring to your eyes in comparison to regular books? ❓❓❓ Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 😊 #Help #OpinionsNeeded

Kristy_K I have one that I use for both. I have the Overdrive and Hoopla apps for audio on there and it works great! I don't read too many ebooks, but I haven't had an issue when I do. It had a "nighttime" option to lessen the blue light and you can alter the screen brightness too. 7y
Aseleener I use my Kindle Fire for reading, but I prefer my phone for audio. Mostly because of it's smaller size - I can listen to it when I go on a walk or use the elliptical at the gym. Kindle Fires do not fit in pockets! ☺ I don't recommend a zk 7y
Aseleener (Ugh, hit send accidentally) I don't recommend a Kindle Fire for outdoor reading. Hard to see the screen. I use my old Keyboard for that purpose. 7y
See All 7 Comments
PandaPanda I second using your phone for audio books, but that may be because I never sit and listen to an audio book unless I am in my car I'm usually listening when I'm moving around in some way. I use the overdrive app and it works well. I use the kindle paperwhite for ebooks and I think it's a lot better on my eyes, there's no glare, and there's a light so you can still read it at night! 7y
GypsyKat @Kristy_K @Aseleener @PandaPanda Thank you all for the input. I truly appreciate it! 😊 7y
Paula3 I love the Kindle fire. It's inexpensive and allows me to go from reading an ebook to listening with whisper sync. Amazon owns Audible as well so if you buy an ebook and want to add the audible experience you generally get it for only a few bucks vs. the full price. :) ps. I prefer to read at night with my Kindle rather than paper. 7y
GypsyKat @Paula3 Thank you! That's good to know! 😊 7y

After reading all of your confessions today and totally identifying with some of you, this is my #BookishConfession : I don't like audiobooks 😳. I know must of you littens love to read in every media available, but it's just not my thing. I prefer to read the printed words.

Aurora0044 I can't seem to get into them either. I spend more time being annoyed with the reader at their voice than actually paying attention to the story, lol. So, you're not alone 😉 7y
TrishB Me too 😀 7y
Cinfhen The ONLY audiobooks I can focus on and actually enjoy are memoirs read by the author! I listened to about 7 or 8 and they were all very entertaining and tolerable. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend (edited) 7y
See All 9 Comments
Lmstraubie I often find that you need to like the narrator's voice to really be able to enjoy it. I agree with @Cinfhen I find memoirs, read by the author, the easiest to enjoy. 7y
Lidia I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one here @Aurora0044 @TrishB 7y
Lidia I guess I should follow your advice and try a memoir 😊 @Cinfhen @Lmstraubie 7y
Cinfhen I'm glad you're willing to give it a try, if you like Chelsea Handler her memoirs are really funny and Amy Shumer's was humorous and a bit humbling 7y
Donna_sBookMinute You probably just haven't found the right one yet. Try "To Kill a Mockingbird" featuring Sissy Spacek," "Troublemaker" by Leah Remini, or "Born a Crime" by Trevor Noah. There has to be a match between the content and the narrator. 7y
bitterbear I don't care for them either... 😆😆😆 7y

If you could only pick 1 audiobook to buy, what would it be? Or I guess what is your favorite audiobook?

Jenshootsweddings The cuckoo's calling! 7y
lynneamch This is a YA futuristic novel where teens go to the moon for prom. Computers are implanted in our brains, so we don't even need cell phones and our thoughts are interrupted by commercials. Says so much about technology and consumerism. Listening to it made me feel like it could actually happen and some of it already is! 😨 7y

Megabooks Favorite audiobook 7y
Megabooks One I'd be because I always wanted to take gymnastics 7y
Lmstraubie I love the ones where one person narrates the whole thing, but you feel like there were 25 different people telling the story. I have to say I find this to happen more with children's books than adult. I loved Matilda which was narrated by Kate Winslet. 7y
Luv2readbookz Agree with @Soubhiville Wil Wheaton is awesome reading 7y

I have about a 45 minute commute to work one-way each day. #audiobooks make that time fly. I find memoir or middle grade/YA books easiest to follow & pay attention to while driving. #lovetolisten #17booklove @jess.how

DivineDiana That's good advice! Sometimes I am rewinding to relisten to parts I miss which is frustrating! 7y
CrowCAH The modern classics are nice to listen to, as well, and they're longer, so you can really get into the meat of the story and characters on a long commute. I have a half hour one-way, I too listen to audiobooks! 😊 7y
Smashlee Ready Player One was sooooo good on audio! 7y
Eliza-beta Sleeping Giants was a great audiobook - because it is told in interview format (all conversation) 7y
