I picked up this book because I liked the title and the cover art. I had a hard time getting into the story because I was not expecting it to be told from the perspective of the prince and all in all I left feeling a little luke warm about it. I'd probably give it a three star rating... maybe 2.5 but it's a been a while since I read it so I can't remember all its virtues and faults.

I read this book years ago at it instanly became one of my favorites. It's a grims brothers fairytale retelling and its starts a little slow, with a touch of romanace along the way and a shy, quite girl forced to save herself and find herself when thrown into an enemy kingdom. The villian is one of my favorites and I think this book is totally worth reading if you like retellings at all!

I picked up this book because a book blogger had gushed so much about it. It was more adult than I was expecting but it was also one of the best retellings I've read, mixed in richly with history and painted so vividly I could not get enough of the different cultures in the book. If your looking for a retelling that will leave you scratching your head wondering if Rapunzel was a true a story this is the tale for you.

I have to admit I was really interested in this book mostly because I heard there was some contraversy surrounding it, after reading the book I felt like that contraversy was unfounded, but I will say that I thought Carve the Mark was a good read, and I liked it so much more than the Divergent series (which I really struggled to get into)

On my goodness it took me forever to start this series becuase it just sounded soo... soo.. spacy, and weird, and I didn't care for the Cinder cover. And then I read it was hooked, hard core and wondering why had take so long. It was such a fun fairytale ride and the banter in it was awesome. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

I was so excited to get this in my May box from "Unicorn Crate"! This book was wonderful, it set in feudal Japan and it's a Mulan retelling done perfectly right. Little hints of magic, a girl having to go away outside her comfort zone to try and bring honor to our family, and a completely unexpected adventure, very different from the Disney version.

The cover of this book and the premise sounded wonderful and I loved the idea of having it set in a culture I was unfamiliar with... But then I found the main character to be so... unreasonable. She has trust issues, which makes total sense but then she went a little crazy with her trust issues and her actions seemed so emotional and seensless that I had a hard time connecting with her after a certain point though the writing was beautiful...

QOTD: Are you a fan of the bachelor/bachelorette TV show?

I have four sisters who have been obsessed with it for years, but it has never appealed to me… Which is why even though I've had so many recommendations for the selection series I've had a hard time picking it up. To me it just sounds like the bachelor in book form, but I've also heard it's a wonderful junk food or eat and really fun so I feel like I need to get to it at some point 😂

OriginalCyn620 I'm reading this series right now! I'm on book 3, The One. I've never watched The Batchelor, but I can see the parallel to this series. I'm finding them to be quick reads and a bit predictable, but not so much that I've lost interest. 8y
bookandcat I LOVE the TV show (Bachelorette usually more than Bachelor) though this past season was a letdown. I can't wait for the next season in May though. My family always used to have viewing parties with lots of snacks and would track a fantasy bracket. I have the first book in this series but haven't read it yet! 8y

MaleficentBookDragon I think all my years in TV news makes me grab a shot and run wherever I am, journalistic style. But, my love of close up photography makes me crop so much you sometimes can't tell where they are taken. After seeing so many beautiful shots here, I'm trying to be "prettier" with my own photos. 8y
CocoReads Mine are usually taken perched on the arm of the couch (aka "my spot") or the table in front of the window when I've managed to clear it if my husbands stuff and/or the lighting is good. Other times it's a shot on the run depending on the subject. 8y
mcipher On the couch, because that's where I settle in to do most of my reading. I have to work on branching out! 8y

QOTD: Do you read graphic novels?

I picked this up at the library the other day not realizing it was a graphic novel until I cracked the cover. I was pleasantly surprised and a little uncertain because I had never read a graphic novel before.

I breezed through it in a sitting and really enjoyed getting to hear more from the most lovable robot ever, Iko. all in all I would say I'm a fan of the graphic novels. Any recommendations for a newbie?

tapgurl Check out Roz Chast and Lucy Knisley. 8y
rachelm Check out the book giveaway #drawme contest! Some of my favorites are on there! 8y

BarbaraTheBibliophage March Trilogy by John Lewis 8y
NovelPairing @rachelm fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy, fairytales... kind of anything along those lines 😉 8y
NovelPairing @BarbaraTheBibliophage ooh, thank you so much! I'll check them out 😁 8y
AshHisson The graphic novel adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is pretty great. If you're okay with middle grade, Smile is excellent. I also loved Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Shen. 8y
Chachic I loved Nimona and Monstress, and you'll probably enjoy those since you're a specfic reader. 8y

QOTD: what exotic animal have you always secretly wanted as a pet?

I feel like I would want something fearsome and beautiful… Like a tiger or a dragon (since this is clearly a fantasy situation ?)

I pick this up at the library because I had a really interesting cover, has anyone read "Above"?

Soubhiville Gorgeous picture! I already have my dream pets- hairless cats. But I would like another Chinese Crested Hairless someday to go with them. And if we're talking fantasy, I'd love a daemon, a la Golden Compass. 8y
WordWaller Definitely always wanted a dragon, but I'm thinking maybe a Phoenix or a giant cat now, haha 8y
Suet624 I want to be able to create photos like this. So rich. 8y

QOTD: What is a strange situation you've found yourself in trying to take a picture?
.
.
I made the mistake of stepping outside to snap some pictures yesterday and immediately turned into a icicle! The weather was so cold and the wind was blowing so hard that it kept blowing my books away. I was outside for a total of five minutes and by the end my hands were numb and too stiff to push the button on my camera 😂 ... thank you -3 degree weather.

451Degrees I actually had one pop up on my On This Day feature on Facebook yesterday! I was trying to take a picture of a flower in the middle of the road so I was laying down in the road to get the shot! Thankfully it wasn't a busy road lol 8y
NovelPairing @451Degrees that is hilarious! Glad you didn't get squished 😉 8y

Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .

I got this book based 100% off of recommendations and I do not regret one second of it. I started it in planning on just read the first page... and then suddenly the book was over. It was fantastic, w/ a hearty bit of Romance, lots of magic, and a mystery to be solved.

Laalaleighh Ooooh maybe I should do pick this one next. 8y
NovelPairing @Laalaleighh it was a really fun read! Yes do it !! 8y
Laalaleighh You convinced me haha. 8y
