Carpe Demon was a fun, light hearted read. What i imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be like grown up. The first in a series.

Just reading in front of the Library of Congress. 😱😍😍😍. Waiting on our entry time
Fun read about a retired demon hunter turned suburban mom.
Well #teamharkness its a little late but better late than never! Finally finished one of our reads. This book is Buffy the Vampire Slayer all grown up. Light and only a little tiny bit gory. Sarcasm galore. @StayCurious
As an urban fantasy reader above a certain age, I adore the premise: what if the vampire/demon/etc.-slayer weren't Buffy but Mrs. Summers instead? Great premise, but it needs something more -- without Buffy's clever dialog, or an early-middle-age version of its teen angst, it's just a demon-fighting Mom. Which: yay Mom, but for me it's just okay.
Well, I did it. Picture worth a thousand words... it wasn‘t the absolute worst so it gets a so-so but I definitely won‘t read the sequel. Thanks to the mods for mixing it up for the 2 #teamreads though!

Here is another book that I wished had more character development. I also didn't care for the internal dialog the main character kept having with herself. If I read the word "schlep" in a sentence one more time I would have thrown something. Yeap, the prose was a bit lack luster. The plot was okay. I am chalking this one up as not my cup of tea. 3⭐

This was a cute little book about a retired demon hunter turned soccer mom. It had rather a Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibe but it seemed a little dry. I think I would have enjoyed it better if I hadn't read so many Stephen King books this book 😈 51pts

Being a long time fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I rather enjoyed this book. It was the perfect light read to escape into for awhile and take some time out from everything currently going on. #Scarathlon2020 #TeamHarkness +51 pts
Woot, I finished our Team Read for #TeamHarkness!! I've read A Discovery of Witches three times already, so I wanted to go for a new book. I actually have this book somewhere on my physical TBR shelves... but audio just fits my life better these days. I liked this one, but won't continue with the series. I guess I love romance in my cozies, and Katie's already married. View my spoiler below on that point.

I'm sorry #TeamHarkness, but I just can't do it. #scarathlon2020 @StayCurious
I finished this #teamharkness #buddyread today. It isn‘t something I normally would‘ve picked up, but the Buffy comparisons drew me in. I thought it was a fun read, and it was nice to be able to get lost in something a little lighter during an otherwise stressful week.

Finished the #BuddyRead for #TeamHarkness & #Scarathlon2020 last night. I didn‘t hate it...but I‘m glad to be moving on!
This tale of a “demon-hunting soccer mom” was published in 2005 & feels like it: “cracks” about Kate‘s “size ten butt”, jokes about “slave labor”, & labeling suicide as a “mortal sin” (once* the official stance of the Catholic Church but still sad) were cringe-worthy & made the text feel outdated. It was campy & fun but...👇🏻
I was hoping this would help my allergies (cold?) & OH GOD, is it ever. 😭😍
A black mass bath for my black mood while I read about demons for #Scarathlon2020. 🖤
Catching up on Reductress headlines. This one spoke to me, given my current (tagged) read. 😅
There are some aspects of having religion in the text that I‘m really enjoying (esp. the Cathedral setting — stones, bones, & torches) & some things I‘m really not (insensitivity re: mental health [suicide is a mortal sin]; demons can‘t inhabit the faithful; doubt makes way for evil, etc).

Glad this was picked for the #buddyread for #teamharkness. I enjoyed it for what it was- a fun read with some demons and fighting thrown in. I like the description that this is what Buffy grown up would be like. It fits perfectly. I may jump into the rest of the series right away, but may continue every October 😉 #scarathlon2020 #screamathon #bookspin 51 points!
This book was cute, but not really my cup of tea. It gets me the extra 50pts for the #buddyread though 😈

I *think* I have 346 pts for #TeamHarkness through the first 10 days of #Scarathlon. Not sure about the accuracy of my totals but I‘m enjoying myself! My favorite read so far has been the buddy read, Carpe Demon. @StayCurious

Not exactly my cup of tea. It‘s cute and fun and I laughed out loud a few times, but am I interested enough to continue with the series? Nope. A lot of the time I just felt like I was being dragged along with Kate on daily errands. Just not a fit for me. 🤷♀️ Still totally worth the 50 points for the #TeamHarkness buddy read! 🤘😆🤘 + 1 participation post=51
Running total: 365 points

1. Tagged, and next is Frankenstein! 😍
2. Wicked
3. Hmm...not exactly any “Halloween” movies yet. We‘ve watched some horror comedies, B horror movies, and a documentary on a scary story anthology. I think tonight we are watching Hubie‘s Halloween with Adam Sandler on Netflix.

This was meant to be posted last night, but sleep caught up to me first. My total for #teamharkness is not including current readathons. I‘m making good head way with #october20in4 and #outstandingoctober. I wish I had more time for #littenlisten, but time escaped me yesterday! Loving the tagged book!
The only trouble I had was the cussing while at church. She was a devout hunter so what was was with the swearing? Other than that, I enjoyed the Buffy-like mom, especially the research in the cathedral's basement. #Scarathlon #TeamHarkness @StayCurious

Finished Dead House- 10 hrs. for #littenlisten and #October20in4. Really creepy and atmospheric. Now on to our #TeamHarkness group read, Carpe Demon. @aperfectmjk #Scarathlon @StayCurious #screamathon @4thhouseontheleft #readlikehellathon
Started this one yesterday to kick off #october20in4 plus did some article reading for some continuing education that I need. A total of 3 hours and 4 mins. Hoping to get a lot more in today! I also watched two episodes of The Order and started rewatching So Weird (any 90s Disney fans?), which I loved growing up! 16 points for #teamharkness
Fifteen years ago, demon hunter Kate Connor set aside her holy water and ninja skills in favor of diapers and minivans, but a new threat has pulled her out of retirement. This novel is silly and sweet and I quite enjoyed it, except for the demon voices on the audiobook, which are creepy as heck.
#TeamHarkness buddy read (+50), 6 hours of reading (+60), Litsy post (+1) = 111 points.

Okay, so this is only book-related because I was listening to the tagged audiobook when these flowers were delivered. Turns out that in 21 years of marriage, I had never mentioned to my spouse that I loved cut flowers in the house. As soon as I did, he ordered some for me from his home office (i.e., his desk in our bedroom). It was cute and sweet and silly and they're gorgeous.
I know I want to finish the pictured two books during the #OutstandingOctober readathon. However, I can't decide what else I want to read after that. So I am just going to wing it. My main goal is to read at least 50 hours. Usually it is 40 but I want to really push myself.
@Andrew65
Finished this for #scaralathon2020 #buddyread Not something I would have picked up on my own but this was such a fun book! Not too scary and I could totally relate to the main character, Kate being a mom to teens and toddlers trying to juggle it all (minus the demon hunting, thankfully. Lol) (+51pts total, 159pts) @staycurious #teamharkness
This book was exactly what I expected it to be and it was just a fun ride! I love things having to do with demons and demon hunters etc! #BuddyRead #TeamHarkness #Scarathlon2020

Honestly I had low expectations for this book & had it not been a buddy read I wouldn't have picked it. Now I want to read the whole series! This was a super fun view into what Buffy could have become if she retired as slayer and lived a mundane life. I didn't figure it out until just before Kate did! 3.5 ⭐
Another one down for #Scarathlon2020! I loved this so much! I just wanted this book to keep going. This is a buddy read for #TeamHarkness, so it‘s worth +51 points!

Today's #17booklove prompt for #Day3 was Red Books. This series didn't have full red covers, but the red tail was worked into every one. 👍 Speaking of these books, I need to go back and reread the first few so I can catch up on the last few. It's a fun series. 🙃 @jess.how
