Luke Fitzwilliam could not believe Miss Pinkerton's wild allegation that a multiple murderer was at work in the quiet English village of Wychwood. But when she is killed, followed by Dr Humbleby, he begins to change his mind.

This was a re-read and a good one. It feels quite sinister because of how “ordinary” all the deaths are. No fancy poisons or weird weapons. This is a stand-alone Agatha and works better for it.

Happy birthday to Agatha Christie!

Do you have a favourite of her books?

AnnR So far I've only read one book by Christie, which is Murder on the Orient Express. I've also read a fictionalized biography (the title escapes me right now) but I still wonder what happened during the alleged 'disappearance.' Weird stuff. 7mo
Cazxxx @AnnR I‘d love to know the truth about her disappearance as well! I always hope it was to teach her cheating husband a lesson but we will never know 7mo
LiteraryinLawrence She‘s been one of my favorite authors for forever! 💗 7mo

3. Murder is Easy features several gruesome murders, more than we typically see in a Christie novel. Which murder sticks out to you, and why is it murder by infected cat ear? 🤢

I'm trying to get caught up, dear #agathachristieclubR2 members! This month has been awesome but insane, between a trip to Europe (with several bookish stops that I somehow didn't post) and really intense committee work. As a result, it took me forever to get through this book so I just finished last week. Posting some questions now, with May's selection questions to come later this weekend:

1. Did you like this book? Why or why not?

Delightful. Superintendent Battle didn‘t appear until near the end. And no Bundle again. Perhaps she just featured in the two books about the grand house Chimneys. I thought I had this one but I was wrong. Perhaps as usual the most unlikely .
Next Saturday off to see The Mousetrap. I saw it many many years ago in London.
The only time I‘ve remembered who dun it!

Enjoyed this one - Fitzwilliam meets a woman on a train who is headed to Scotland Yard to report a serial murderer - the woman is killed before she can get there - so Fitzwilliam goes to the village the woman is from and investigates. As usual, I didn't guess the killer - it was a quick and good read.

Also published as Easy to Kill, this is another great Christie standalone. For once, I remembered who the murderer was, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this reread - I love watching her plant the clues and red herrings. This one does drag a bit here and there as Luke spends a lot of time hashing and rehashing the possibilities, but still a solid mystery.

Uhhhh, I was not impressed lol. I've been watching a lot of Case Closed recently and idk, maybe my expectations are too high 😂😂 The case starts off interesting but I found myself drifting somewhere in the middle. I wasn't expecting the end but idk if that's a good or bad thing. I felt like there weren't enough clues but I'm also not good at mysteries so maybe I just didn't realize, lol. Ends a bit anticlimactically and the characters are meh

After reading a whole bunch of mysteries (or maybe thrillers? Not sure about the distinction), I understand better why Christie's books have stood the test of time. Sure, her mysteries can be formulaic, but they're so well constructed, and the characters are so interesting. This one was a delight to read/listen to, very much an "evil lurking in unlikely places" kind of story.

This book is the 4th in an Inspector Battle series, who doesn‘t appear much. Instead, the main character is Luke, who is a private detective. This story had a great start with a woman on a train telling Luke that she knows who‘s murdering people in her village. She‘s killed, and Luke investigates. It also had a great ending. Everything in between was just okay. The Fifth Avenue Story Society follows this as my new walking book. #audiowalk

My addition to the #Sharreadathon was of course a lovely book. Agatha Christie just wrote such good stories, they're entertaining and engage one to try to solve the case as well. Here I went somewhat wrong 😅 As always there are a lot of characters showing up and sometimes I've had some troubles dealing with the side characters. But that's ok, I guess.

This was my first reading of an Agatha Christie novel that did not feature Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot and I found It surprisingly good. It did feature lots of suspects in a small village where it took way too long for anyone to notice the ridiculously high per capita murder rate, giving it quite the Murder She Wrote vibe! 😆

Finished this one today! It‘s funny it‘s considered a Superintendent Battle book, when he‘s only in it for 2 chapters.

This was a fun/weird little mystery. Luke talks to a woman on a train and he sees that she‘s turned up dead. So he has to go investigate!

Did not see the twist coming! So great and clever.

Luke Fitzwilliam is told by an old lady on a train that she is going to Scotland Yard to report her suspicions that a serial killer is operating in her village. When the old lady meets with a fatal accident in London, Luke decides to investigate matters himself.

What with the disappearing train and the old lady's yarn, I did wonder if we'd wandered into Michael Innes territory. But no, we were safe in Christie land, and very enjoyable it was too

A guy returns to England & meets an older woman on the train who tells him she suspects several murders in her village. He ends up deciding to investigate even though he‘s not a detective. The mystery itself is interesting, but the MC is uninspiring & the romance is unnecessary (I‘m usually someone who likes the romance). #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick 16pts

I always love a good Agatha Christie murder, but especially those that don‘t star her main protagonists, like Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, or Tommy & Tuppence. They seem to be a little more unexpected, and this one didn‘t disappoint. Of course, the twists and turns were anticipated, but even with looking out for the sudden hints I was surprised by the ending.
