I really liked this book in spite of it having moments I rolled my eyes at and lost interest. Dual timelines aren‘t always great but I enjoyed this.

If you like a novel with mystery, travel, magic, a history of tarot cards and a love story that spans over centuries this is the story for you!
This kept my attention the whole way through. I loved it.

I'll tell you, I DEVOURED this book so fast. I couldn't read it fast enough. Thanks @Avanders for the book 😍
I love how this story traveled through generations, centuries even. Kept me wondering what would happen next. The ending was a bit dramatic but isn't every book?
4.5 to 5 star read from me.
I enjoyed this book so much that I kept putting it down! I got hooked very early on and wayyy too involved. It‘s my #bookspin for the month so ✔️ but it also took place partly in Egypt so pleasant surprise because I‘m still waiting for my #foodandlit2022 library holds.
And speaking of… homemade Egyptian falafel, pita, salad. I even made the tahini! And nowwwww food coma. Recipe links below ⬇️
First #BookspinBingo board of 2022!
Looks like I'm going to finally get around to this one!

Wow wow wow! @Avanders I feel so spoiled by your #bws gift! What a great way to wake up! Two witchy books for the swap: The Fortune Teller and Witch light! Some delicious black tea, a deep purple candle I'm afraid to burn and a stunning ink print! Don't forget the candy! 🖤😍 And thank you for the extra books! I've been wanting to read these! The copy of Addie LAaRue is gorgeous! A perfect edition to my shelf!! Thank you! 🦇⚰🖤🧹
excellent dual timeline lady centric story of a woman in ancient Egypt and a woman in the 21st c
Sorry friends, I just did not like this one. Almost a Pan.
I couldn‘t stand Semele and found her very unsympathetic. She treated everyone so poorly. If you told me this book was written by 2 different people I‘d believe you. The writing between the manuscript and present day seemed so different. I much preferred what happened in the past.
The ending seemed a bit ridiculous and far fetched. Idk this one just wasn‘t for me.
#LMPBC
Eh. I enjoyed the chapters which traced the family history through the ages but the modern chapters, and esp Semele, the MC, drove me nuts. Also, I expected this to be enjoyably farfetched but the ending was over the top.
Total popcorn book - the mashup of an early Mary Stewart gothic with a Dan Brown web of ANCIENT MYSTERY(!) that I didn't know I needed in my life. Among the many elements I relished:
- the mysterious Egyptian origins of the Tarot!
- the library of Alexandria!
- a mysterious heir with a rare manuscript collection!
- a heroine who happens to be a world-class manuscript specialist!
- Other stuff I won't spoil!
So yeah, deeply silly & tons of fun.
#BookMail is the best mail! Sarah, I think I received this book in record time! I now have 2 of the #LMPBC books, so I‘ll get started on them!
And I received A Trace of Deceit from the author. She wanted me to give it a try after I read her first book.
This not the book I am supposed to be reading, as MaciGrace has pointed out to me. But it is the first book I‘ve read in 2021, and I‘m just happy to have been able to focus long enough to finish it! I learned a few things and found myself googling several times to dig a bit deeper. I‘d have eliminated one of the characters as unnecessary but otherwise I truly enjoyed it.
#whatthedickens 🧐
This was an engaging book with an intriguing premise. There were times that the MC seriously got on my nerves, but overall I enjoyed this one. I will say that finally printing off an overview of the tarot deck helped me get more from the story. It's an #LMPBC book so I will try to get it in the mail the early part of this week @Laughterhp !!
@Chrissyreadit @Catsandbooks
I felt like I hadn't read much this week until I went to post this #BookReport - I guess I did get somewhere after all! 😂 All solid reads as well, although none of them jumped out and yelled, “I AM YOUR NEW FAVORITE!“ Still, an enjoyable little pile, and I'm quite enjoying my current read as well (tagged).
@Cinfhen
I'm really enjoying this one BUT all the chapter headings are the names of various tarot cards & I don't really know much about tarot. A while ago, on Instagram, Maggie Stiefvater went through the entire deck with an explanation for each card & I've been looking them up & her descriptions are adding so much to this book! All that to say - I copied her descriptions into a Word document for reference, so if anyone would like me to email it to them ⬇
“The fireplace stood like a sentry in the room.“
I'm super excited about starting this #LMPBC book!!! @Laughterhp still hoping to read & mail this one before the end of the month!! @Chrissyreadit @Catsandbooks
@Chrissyreadit - I got your package today only three days after the *expected delivery day“ printed on the mailing label 😂 Thank you so much for the bonus chocolate!! Looking forward to delving into this one this week!!
@Laughterhp - there has been no update on the book I sent you since it left Des Moines (?!) Jan 10 😬
@Catsandbooks
I loved this book! So glad it was part of this round of #lmpbc @Catsandbooks great choice, Thank-you! This book has multiple timelines, Tarot Cards, psychic powers and is still very character driven. I cried over a character who has maybe the equivalent of 5 pages in the book! I will mail it Saturday. I can‘t wait to hear what Sarah and Mikala think.
I finished this a while ago and there was A LOT going on! Dual story lines and magical books etc. kind of reminded me of the ‘all souls trilogy‘ in that way. It had charming characters and kept me listening till the end ☺️ Thanks for the recommendation @Chrissyreadit and @Catsandbooks
“The Fortune Teller in between my sheets”😂 Well now... that‘s kind of sexy! Lol😎
@WanderingBookaneer This was pretty fun! 😆
#lmpbc book has arrived @Catsandbooks @Laughterhp @TheAromaofBooks
Okay have a question for the ones that went to #Bookcon I know it‘s not free to get in but can you get free books or do you have to pay for those too. I am thinking of going next year but I have to really budget if the books I want are not free.
Enjoyable, somewhat fluffy, summer read. Not a lot of character development but good story and pacing. Overall a pick for me.
Book and snack.
I forgot to snap a pic of this book, so here‘s a violet from my garden instead. 🌸 I was underwhelmed by this book. The story itself was such an original idea, and the writing wasn‘t too bad. Such a shame that it devolved into tired old cliches by the end. Seriously, the “Big Finish” is such a tired old spy novel/movie trope that it‘s almost laughable!
5⭐️ The Fortune Teller is a fascinating travel through history from the time of the Library of Alexandria to the conclusion of World War II. The story creatively alternates back and forth through time, from what Semele is reading in the manuscript to the mystery she is experiencing in the present. This is why I don‘t check out the Kindle Deals! Ahhhhh... Anyway, it looks interesting and it‘s $2.99 so I thought why not, it‘s not like I don‘t have a bazillion ebooks I‘ve not read yet. So what if I have one more? 😉
I loved the history in this book. Part love story, espionage, magic and best of all, a history of books all the way back to the library of Alexandria. This author did a great job linking all of the generations together.
An appraiser discovers a rare manuscript about a tarot deck saved from the flames that destroyed the Library of Alexandria. As she translates, she learns that the author predicted she would find it. It has a fantastic Katherine Neville feel to it. While nothing will top The Eight, this is a worthy successor in the line of fun treasure hunts. If you're a fan of Neville or Anne Fortier's books, you should definitely check this one out.
Autumn seems to have arrived w/ a flip of a switch. The temperature‘s plummeted, so I‘ve been changing out the summer wardrobe for wooly sweaters, warm scarves & favorite boots. I‘ve also been enjoying the perks of the season: pumpkin spice lattes, vibrant colours draping the mountainside & daydreaming of all those delicious autumn dishes. Can one ever truly tire of this time of year?

It's so sad we lost the library of Alexandria. Books are so important to preserve.
With this second novel, Womack cements her place in the genre with authors such as M.J. Rose and Kate Mosse. Her writing is engaging and clever, the characters and their stories are interesting, and the action moves along at a decent pace. I adored The Memory Painter, so I was understandably excited for another book by the author, and I didn't like this one nearly as much as her first one. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it and spent much of my weekend being lost in it, but it most likely won't stick with me like The Memory Painter. Pick it up if you liked her first one!
Excellent storytelling! The author breathed life into her characters. Relationships were well done; children and parents, best friends, co-workers, romantic pairings and enemies. An ancient manuscript and set of tarot cards were such integral parts of the story, almost becoming characters themselves. They provided wisdom, warnings, answers, insight and hope. I love when characters are voracious readers, hang out in libraries and are imaginative.
I'm reading The Fortune Teller with some friends. Has anyone read it already?
I'm sorry @Laalaleighh I know how much you loved this book, but I'm afraid it just wasn't for me. I almost bailed, but it was such a short read and I did want to know what happened, so I stuck with it. Don't take my word for it though, i could see others really liking it. I'm just picky wherever magical realism and historical fiction come into play.
