Bookwormjillk Total @Aimeesue vibes 1mo
mcctrish What blows my mind is FD just fast forwarded 2 months and only subjected us to random children for a few chapters. Girding his loins for the court room drama? Will Ivan get to be his windbag self ? #Incoherentrambles Grigory and the red herring of the open door throws the whole crime 1mo
dabbe @mcctrish Dare I even think that those children chapters were the COMIC relief before the trial? 😱 1mo
dabbe Good question, @BarkingMadRead How many chapters will the trial be? As long as the chapters are kept short ... 😂 1mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe omg I didn‘t even think of that. 1mo
Aimeesue Ha! I love it! 1mo
5feet.of.fury I‘m catching up (again) so glad to be seemingly hopefully back to the plot 🙃 1mo

Aimeesue @dabbe I always wondered who got the first best bed 😋 5mo
dabbe @Aimeesue Me, too! And if they were male or female since most of his sonnets were dedicated to a man. #inquiringmindswanttoknow 🤩 5mo

BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 that‘s amazing 5mo
TheBookHippie The picture 😂😂😂😂 their expressions 😂😂😂😂😂 all I keep thinking in my head is gossipy church folk 🤷🏻‍♀️😂😵‍💫👀🤦🏻‍♀️ 5mo
BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie it was the first one to pop up, I don‘t usually get this lucky! My Google game is strong, but not always this strong 🤣🤣🤣 5mo
CatLass007 I think it‘s mostly the nose and somewhat the mouth. 5mo
Cuilin I‘m putting this🏳️‍🌈 here for Piers because that‘s that‘s what I‘m picking up. Anybody else? @Bklover 5mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 5mo
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin for sure!!! 5mo
TheAromaofBooks My favorite part was that she's mad because her husband didn't read her mind and bring her home a present. 🙄 🙄 🙄 5mo
Bookwormjillk @TheAromaofBooks and then she used that as an excuse to think about other men 5mo
Bklover @Cuilin Yes!!🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 5mo
julieclair I think it was Piers' lover who answered the phone. 🏳️‍🌈 And what the heck, Wilmet? Miffed that Harry hasn't asked you for another date! This woman really is something. 5mo
rwmg Catherine Oliphant from “Less Than Angels“ re-cycling her life experience 😁 5mo
dabbe @Cuilin #fersure 🏳️‍🌈💚🏳️‍🌈 5mo
dabbe And the conversation between Rowena and Wilmet about Harry? Just a wee bit awkward. Though the way these women talk to each other (well, the men, too, for that matter) reminds me of Wharton's upper class New Yorkers in the Gilded Age. The pic for today NAILED it, @BarkingMadRead! 🤩 5mo
Aimeesue Perfect pic! 😂 5mo

Clare-Dragonfly I was sure there would be a “how can we get married? We are different religions!” I thought that would be an insuperable impediment in the time, but I guess not. Also, this chapter would have been super heartwarming and sweet if Paul weren‘t such a jerk in the past 😂 1y
Ruthiella I still can‘t quite get over how he has treated her in the past either… expecting her to be as virtuous and self sacrificing as a nun… though given his backstory, I guess that makes more sense now. 1y
Bookwormjillk @Clare-Dragonfly @Ruthiella I can‘t get over it either. Although if someone made me the perfect workspace and then ordered carry out I might forgive them too 🤣 1y
Bklover Didn‘t get to read todays chapter until tonight. I agree with you all! 1y

Ruthiella I don‘t understand how John/Grant could get all that from observation? 1y
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella me either, I wonder if it‘s just his jealousy coming out? 1y

Bookwormjillk Her horror at the pink dress was kind of funny. 1y
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I was laughing so hard, I was picturing so many things in my head 🤣 like Giselle‘s dress in Enchanted, but in pink 🤣 1y
Bklover I was picturing hot pink satin with hoops 😂 1y
suvata It was a very comical scene. But, personally, I like pink … which is why I never purchase clothing for other people. @Bklover Hot pink would have been perfect. 💖 1y
Clare-Dragonfly I want to wear Lucy‘s pink dress with black lace! 😁 I really liked Dr. John in this chapter. He kind of snaps back at Lucy (apparently he wasn‘t as taken in by Ginevra as I thought!) and any man who is that protective of his mother is OK by me. M. Paul, on the other hand, is more and more of an ass 🙄 1y
Clare-Dragonfly @Ruthiella Both he and Lucy seem to get a LOT from observation—look at her with the royal family! I wonder if they‘re meant to be incredible judges of character or if they just… make stuff up. 1y
Ruthiella @Clare-Dragonfly Absolutely. I was amazed 🙄at Lucy‘s diagnostic powers by just looking at the royal family. 1y
KristiAhlers @Clare-Dragonfly me too! I love the color pink. And Dr John did redeem himself for me here. Maybe because M Paul was being such a jerk. Hmmm something to ponder. 1y

Joining in on #weeklyforecast! @Cinfhen

I should finish Traitors and The Dutch House, about halfway through both now. And after setting it aside for a while, I've been reading Genji again. I'm about 75% now, so hoping for another 10% or so. If I finish all that, I'll start something new - but I doubt it since let's be real, there's also many hours of playing Pokémon shield in my forecast this week 😁

Crazeedi I totally enjoyed the dutch house! 4y
llwheeler @Crazeedi awesome ☺️ it's my first time reading Ann Patchett and I'm enjoying it so far too! 4y
Cinfhen What‘s Pokémon Shield???? #InquiringMindsWantToKnow 4y
llwheeler @Cinfhen Pokémon shield (Pokémon sword is the other version) is the new Pokémon game that just came out for Nintendo switch 4y
Cinfhen Hmmmm, haven‘t heard any of my kids or nephews talking about it. I‘ll have to ask them (edited) 4y

How to Stop Time | Matt Haig

I‘ve made it about a fourth of the way through (pg 80). But I‘m not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The pacing is a bit slow and the constant time jumping doesn‘t helping. I‘m thinking about putting it aside although I want to know about Marion.

Any thoughts? Does the pacing pick up any? #inquiringmindswanttoknow

AvidReader25 I struggled with the same thing and I finished it. To me it wasn‘t worth it and I wasn‘t a big fan. 5y
thereadingowlvina Same here! But I finished it and did not enjoy this book at all 😔 5y
wanderinglynn @Avidreader25 @thereadingowlvina Thanks for letting me know. Maybe putting it aside for now is a good call. 5y

wanderinglynn @OnlyYoo that‘s disappointing. 5y
AvidReader25 @thereadingowlvina @OnlyYoo Glad I wasn‘t alone in thinking that! 5y
Nocapes I‘m at about the same spot, and having the same feeling. Disappointed to hear that it doesn‘t get better. I love the idea of the book, but the pacing just seems “off”. (edited) 5y
wanderinglynn @Nocapes Yes, I agree. Love the idea, but the story just isn‘t working. 5y

The Fortune Teller: A Novel | Gwendolyn Womack

Okay have a question for the ones that went to #Bookcon I know it‘s not free to get in but can you get free books or do you have to pay for those too. I am thinking of going next year but I have to really budget if the books I want are not free.

wanderinglynn If I remember @MrBook & @TheSpineView were 2 who went to Bookcon. Maybe they can help answer your question? #inquiringmindswanttoknow 5y
GripLitGrl Publishers do offer free ARC's & Galleys this was my second year attending. I'm gonna post my books later after work. The ARC's for required standing in line 1 1/2 to get the book a lot of the lines closed down before the time the giveaway was scheduled to be offered which was unfortunate i missed a lot of books i really wanted. Waiting in lines had me miss some speakers also. But it's a good time i defiantly recommend going to experience it. 5y
LibrarianRyan For Book Con it is a little of both. Some signing lines require you purchase the book, some give out free ARCs, it just depends. There are normally long lines for free arcs, and they are usually limited. Some you have to sign up for when you register (ticketed signings), and some you get a ticket 30 minutes before it starts, and others are just massively long lines. This isn't a bad thing, is lines are a perfect place to sit. (on the floor). 5y
See All 11 Comments
TheSpineView @LibrarianRyan did an excellent job of describing how it worked. The only thing I will add is, if there is a free ARC that you must have, get in line early. Most books I saw for sale were at a discount if you decide you need it bad enough to buy. 5y
MrBook @GripLitGrl , @LibrarianRyan , and @TheSpineView , provided excellent explanations 😁! 5y
MrBook So, BookExpo has a ton of free books, BookCon has a few. If you want a free book, get a ticket ahead of BC or keep an eye out for tickets for them, which are called “drops”. As long as you have a ticket, you‘ll be able to snag a free book (they give out as many tickets as they have copies), so you don‘t necessarily have to wait in line the whole time. I usually would get in line when it was almost done, freeing me up for other things. 5y
MrBook With the big publishers, they usually offer hardcovers for something like $10 and paperbacks for $5. Or there‘s a 50-75% discount. The discount gets bigger as the last day gets closer to ending because they don‘t want to haul all that heavy stuff back to the office if they can help it. 5y
MrBook Small publishers and independently-published authors tend to ask full price. There‘s also all the merchandise booths, which have some really awesome goodies. They usually offer a 25-50% discount as well. 5y
MrBook When I could afford it for past conventions (not just BookCon but others too), I would take $200 in cash with me. Cash is king. Not everyone accepts card. 5y
LibrarianRyan I will also add that not every publisher you see Lutyens posting from expo will be at con. A lot of foreign language and publishers that work more with libraries will pack up and not stay for con. For example Scholastic. I don‘t know if they were at come this year, but the two expos I went to, scholastic packed up and did not attend con. 5y
Endowarrior21 Thank you all for the input and info 5y
