Clare-Dragonfly I was sure there would be a “how can we get married? We are different religions!” I thought that would be an insuperable impediment in the time, but I guess not. Also, this chapter would have been super heartwarming and sweet if Paul weren‘t such a jerk in the past 😂 2y

Ruthiella I still can‘t quite get over how he has treated her in the past either… expecting her to be as virtuous and self sacrificing as a nun… though given his backstory, I guess that makes more sense now. 2y

Clare-Dragonfly I want to wear Lucy‘s pink dress with black lace! 😁 I really liked Dr. John in this chapter. He kind of snaps back at Lucy (apparently he wasn‘t as taken in by Ginevra as I thought!) and any man who is that protective of his mother is OK by me. M. Paul, on the other hand, is more and more of an ass 🙄 2y

I should finish Traitors and The Dutch House, about halfway through both now. And after setting it aside for a while, I've been reading Genji again. I'm about 75% now, so hoping for another 10% or so. If I finish all that, I'll start something new - but I doubt it since let's be real, there's also many hours of playing Pokémon shield in my forecast this week 😁

How to Stop Time | Matt Haig

I‘ve made it about a fourth of the way through (pg 80). But I‘m not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The pacing is a bit slow and the constant time jumping doesn‘t helping. I‘m thinking about putting it aside although I want to know about Marion.

Any thoughts? Does the pacing pick up any? #inquiringmindswanttoknow

Okay have a question for the ones that went to #Bookcon I know it‘s not free to get in but can you get free books or do you have to pay for those too. I am thinking of going next year but I have to really budget if the books I want are not free.

GripLitGrl Publishers do offer free ARC's & Galleys this was my second year attending. I'm gonna post my books later after work. The ARC's for required standing in line 1 1/2 to get the book a lot of the lines closed down before the time the giveaway was scheduled to be offered which was unfortunate i missed a lot of books i really wanted. Waiting in lines had me miss some speakers also. But it's a good time i defiantly recommend going to experience it. 6y

LibrarianRyan For Book Con it is a little of both. Some signing lines require you purchase the book, some give out free ARCs, it just depends. There are normally long lines for free arcs, and they are usually limited. Some you have to sign up for when you register (ticketed signings), and some you get a ticket 30 minutes before it starts, and others are just massively long lines. This isn't a bad thing, is lines are a perfect place to sit. (on the floor). 6y

TheSpineView @LibrarianRyan did an excellent job of describing how it worked. The only thing I will add is, if there is a free ARC that you must have, get in line early. Most books I saw for sale were at a discount if you decide you need it bad enough to buy. 6y

MrBook So, BookExpo has a ton of free books, BookCon has a few. If you want a free book, get a ticket ahead of BC or keep an eye out for tickets for them, which are called “drops”. As long as you have a ticket, you‘ll be able to snag a free book (they give out as many tickets as they have copies), so you don‘t necessarily have to wait in line the whole time. I usually would get in line when it was almost done, freeing me up for other things. 6y

MrBook With the big publishers, they usually offer hardcovers for something like $10 and paperbacks for $5. Or there‘s a 50-75% discount. The discount gets bigger as the last day gets closer to ending because they don‘t want to haul all that heavy stuff back to the office if they can help it. 6y

MrBook Small publishers and independently-published authors tend to ask full price. There‘s also all the merchandise booths, which have some really awesome goodies. They usually offer a 25-50% discount as well. 6y

MrBook When I could afford it for past conventions (not just BookCon but others too), I would take $200 in cash with me. Cash is king. Not everyone accepts card. 6y

LibrarianRyan I will also add that not every publisher you see Lutyens posting from expo will be at con. A lot of foreign language and publishers that work more with libraries will pack up and not stay for con. For example Scholastic. I don‘t know if they were at come this year, but the two expos I went to, scholastic packed up and did not attend con. 6y
