I‘m participating in a readathon that required a book involving a sport. This has been on my tbr for a bit so I decided to get it off my list. Very well researched and dramatically told.

Up next…this has been on my TBR for AGES!! It‘s also my May #doublespin 📚

The story was good. Horse racing is dangerous and I do not like using animals for human entertainment. This didn‘t help my opinion. The author mostly focused on the danger for the jockeys, but those same dangers go for the horses. But the human jockeys choose to do what they do, knowing the dangers. I was surprised to learn how much those jockeys mistreat their own bodies in order to race. Cont in comments...
Great book! I didn't care about horse racing before reading this book but I'm a huge fan of Unbroken and read it just because Laura Hillenbrand is an amazing writer. In the end I too fell in love with Seabiscuit and had my heart in all the races as Hillenbrand so magically depicted them.
Amazing read- I loved the insight into this I interesting subculture: very emotional
#youresovain | This is one my all-time favorite songs and I‘m going with verse three:
🎶 Well I hear you went to Saratoga
And your horse, naturally, won 🎶
Seabiscuit raced many times at Saratoga Springs during his Depression-era, underdog career and is even memorialized there in statue form. Hillenbrand‘s book is a lovely testament to the horse, jockey, owner, and trainer. The film is fantastic, too.

Bookmail! Two books arrived today from Littens and what joy! Thank you @OrangeMooseReads and @mdm139 ! Hillenbrand wrote a favorite nonfiction book of mine, Unbroken, and Seabiscuit was highly recommended even though I‘m not a fan of the sport. The Children‘s Blizzard looks so amazing but sad. Excited for both. Thanks again!!
I love this author‘s writing. She is so talented in her work in nonfiction. She truly makes the stories come to life and finds the best ways to make every part interesting for the reader. This was a great book about the famous race horse and the making of how he got to where he did.
What‘s not to love about this Biscuit of a horse. Touched my heart learning of him and all his quirks, I fell in love with him and in the end he fell in love with everyone around him. This is one of my favorite authors, also loved book Unbroken, I wish the author could write more. Thanks Laura Hillenbrand, your words make Seabiscuit live on in our hearts forever.
One of the best books I‘ve ever read. It is a wonderful story about a horse that is very special. The horse has a real relationship with her jockey. You guys have to read this book!!!
I listened to this, and although the narrator didn‘t blow me away, the book was so engrossing that it didn‘t matter. As a kid I loved reading books about horses but didn‘t really have a burning desire to read this one. However, I enjoyed Hillenbrand‘s Unbroken so much that I thought I‘d give this a try. I‘m glad I did because it was such a great underdog story of Sea Biscuit and the people surrounding him. I will read anything she writes.
This is kind of dragging on and is taking me forever to get through. How did you all like it? Should I continue with it or put it aside? Who knows, I might just start another book, just not feeling it with this one.
Happy Memorial Day everyone! 🎉

1. Started the tagged book yesterday and I'm loving it so far! I knew I would since I read Unbroken.
2. Not that I'm aware of.
3. Hot dog with a side of potato salad and baked beans.
I absolutely loved this audiobook, and I wish Hillenbrand would write more books. It felt especially appropriate to listen to the recounts of the races, just like most people would have listened to them on the radio at the time. Highly recommend.
Here is Seabiscuit with his jockey, Red Pollard.
#riotgrams Day 17 - #AnUnreturnedBook - All of these are on my #MountTBR And are all borrowed from other people 😳 (Note: after I took this photo I found 6 more that need to be read and returned. Whoops!)
These are the books we read for my IRL book club this year. Our favoritewas Seabiscuit but we enjoyed all of these picks📚 Our book club is at work, so book to screen choices work well because then people who haven‘t read the book can join our lunch discussions too! #bookclubread #jingleshelves
Saw this misplaced book and it made me snicker. Also, can you even believe I did not buy one single book at Half Price Books today? I‘m trying to buy only from my wishlist these days since I already have so many books at home and I could find no wishlist books. But I did buy a pack of Christmas cards that have books and cats—my two loves—on them. I go to HPB so rarely that I used my Christmas-themed gift card from LAST year to pay for them.
Reading Seabiscuit for my in person book club and enjoying this view in my garden! #litsypartyofone
My rummage sale book haul to restock my Little Free Library. ($10.50!) Now I just need some customers. 🙃I'm trying to bulk up my preteen/teen selections.
I put off reading this for years. But then three summers ago, a neighbor of my parents had a copy in a box of books they were giving away. I seriously could not understand why I would want to read a book about horse racing. But then I read it and was blown away. Phenomenal book! #GIVEAWAYSPORTS
In March, I read 10 print/e-books, 11 shorts (Serial Reader app,) and listened to 8 audiobooks! I DNF-ed 1 other audiobook, watched 2 movies based on books; and continued on my campaign to catch up with the Games of Thrones TV series (Just 2 more eps before S7 begins!) My pick of the month is a backlist narrative NF book, 'Seabiscuit' (by Laura Hillenbrand.) Amazing writing, amazing story... 🐎 (Pictured: Flowering Shamrock on my windowsill)
Narrative Non-Fiction at its finest, this was the story of an unlikely racehorse and even more unlikely champion; but he that he was, winning the hearts of Americans during the Depression and becoming a symbol of something greater, heart. He was a "gamer!" This was one of those books I never wanted to end, and savored each chapter. (Image: Detail of photo: Seabiscuit w/George "Iceman" Woolf)
Day #3 #recentnonfictionread #marchintoreading This was my most recent non-fiction read. I have a question about it though - the book is titled "Seabiscuit" but why don't we see his face on the cover (we just see his body)?"
Looking back, my track record regarding the number of books read from my posted monthly #TBR stax hasn't been great: I read about 12 books a month; but only a couple from the nightstand. This month I've stacked 10 books and 1 DVD. Let's see if I can hit at least 5, and maybe some leftovers from January & February!
This book has been in my #TBR stax so long that the pages are yellowed; and my bookmark is the insert from the DVD... Note that it's a promo for a contest whose deadline was almost *13* years ago! I don't know how either the book or DVD survived the #bookpurgings; but I'm taking it as a sign to actually get to it! (Excuse the glare! I'm in a middle school gym waiting for the band concert to begin)
Laura Hillenbrand is truly an inspiration. Despite living with CFS and being unable to leave her home, she's researched, written, and published two bestsellers. Some might say she lives with #disabilities, I wonder if she'd disagree or agree. #photoadaynov16

This month is #NonfictionNovember!! All this month, we'll be recommending some our favorite nonfiction picks. First up, the unbreakable Laura Hillenbrand's debut SEABISCUIT. Though you may know her better for UNBROKEN, Hillenbrand's first book looks at an unlikely racing champion, Seabiscuit, and his down-on-his luck jockey. Simple and elegant, Hillenbrand's prose flows seamlessly across the page, making near-perfect storytelling look easy. 🏇😍📚
Opening line:
Charles Howard had the feel of a gigantic on rushing machine: You had to either climb on or leap out of the way."

I'm not really a horse person but I enjoy a good non-fiction book, especially on audio. I enjoyed this audio and loved learning about Seabiscuit's life and his personality. I also learned a lot about the behind the scenes of horse racing 🐴
When a library audiobook expires in 1 day, what's a girl to do? Go for a long book listening walk and enjoy the last of the flowers, that's what 🍃🌺
My #funfridayphoto is Seabiscuit. Brilliant writing brings this story and characters in it to life. Hillenbrand has few rivals for writing and storytelling talent. @Liberty
Laura Hillenbrand's beautifully written book hooked me on narrative nonfiction.
#septphotochallenge day 14... Nonfiction favorites
I honestly cannot praise Hillenbrand enough. She is without a doubt an absolutely amazing non fiction writer. It's more than just a well researched story. This book about Seabiscuit encompasses so many different factors, many of which I was completely ignorant about, and I was hooked the entire time. The story of Seabiscuit, his jockey, owner and trainer is intriguing and so well told that I almost feel like an expert and believe me, I am not!
I've been in a serious reading funk which really sucks because my summer break will be over on Friday. In other news though, this book is amazing! I love Hillenbrand and her writing. I've never been interested in horse racing but put this on my list to read another Hillenbrand. And who knew how interesting horse racing was?! I didn't but now I'm sold! This is an amazing story.
So Seabiscuit was an asshole! A great racing horse and somewhat of an asshole! 😂😂😂 #animalscanbeassholestoo
The next book on my list is... Jumping right back into my theme for this year! This is from 2001.
