Undici minuti | Paulo Coelho

Finished my last #BookSpin book last night, which was Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho. I‘ve had this book on my shelf for years, and finally read it for #foodandlit, since the main character is from Brazil. As per usual, I didn‘t bother reading the book blurb before diving in... assuming it was about dancing or romance because of the cover. Nope, it was about prostitution and sex! It was so well written, that I read it cover to cover though. ♥️

Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks I could have sworn that I had Will Greyson, Will Greyson on my shelf... but apparently I don‘t so it‘s been scratched off, along with My Life Next Door which I apparently already read, but didn‘t remove from my shelf 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
TheAromaofBooks It's always amazing to me how many books aren't actually on my shelf that I could have SWORN I already owned!! Fabulous progress!! 3y

After tomorrow‘s overnights shift, I have 8 glorious days off. Well maybe not glorious, since I have a root canal and a medical procedure booked... but I‘m looking forward to recovering alongside my books. Hoping to dig in the tagged boon for my #brazil #foodandlit selection, and perhaps this delicious low carb Brazilian recipe 🤤https://pin.it/4GO4fOK

My second book of the year!

This book won‘t be for everyone, and I wasn‘t sure what I thought initially, but the story has stayed with me.
I think this is partially down to the research the author has done on the subject by talking to people in the profession, with the story being based mainly on “Maria‘s” story, and partly due to the writing style.

I would definitely read more of Paulo Coelho‘s work.

#FoodAndLit #Brazil #JumpStart2021

Butterfinger I will definitely read this book. 3y

Spent today reading some of Eleven Minutes (I am enjoying it, but I am a bit disappointed that so little has been set in Brazil) and making my first Brazilian dish Feijoada with Farofa for #FoodAndLit

I was pleased with how this turned out and my partner and I both loved the Feijoada, but are a little unsure how we feel about the Farofa. I kind of liked it? 🤣

#Brazil

Texreader Yay for trying it! I need to kick myself into gear to try making the stew. 3y

Bookworm54 @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm it is a Brazilian black bean stew. I used pork ribs, chorizo, and smoked sausage in mine. It makes the house smell amazing! The recipe is here if you are interested https://www.curiouscuisiniere.com/feijoada-brazilian-black-bean-stew/ mine has farofa on top too which is toasted cassava flour (link to that recipe is in there too) 3y

For #FoodAndLit this month we are discovering #Brazil

I wanted to read something by a Brazilian author, but also preferably that was set in Brazil itself, which is why I have picked Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho.

The dedication says “Some books make us dream, others bring us face to face with reality, but what matters most to the author is the honesty with which a book is written.” So it looks like I am in for an interesting read!

Texreader Fantastic! Can‘t wait to hear how you like it! 3y

Good afternoon! ! I really like to share my passion for books with who, like me, can not stay without reading! I wanted to start posting with a book by Paulo Coelho "Eleven Minutes".
I have four books by this author, including the well known "The Alchemist". I must say that both were very pleasant readings, but "Eleven Minutes" remains my favorite. Have you read any Coelho book? Do you like his books?

This book offered my first real insight into the world of prostitution and sex and my introduction to the author as well and it did not disappoint. I literally devoured this story. Masterfully written by a man with empathy towards his main character, who sees her for what she is, what she became and pens a cautionary tale reminding us that we can all be redeemed in the end, though we may seem lost.

Paulo is a remarkable writer who has the God's gift to perceive and understand the feeling and thought process of a woman - her needs, her miseries, her judgements and above all, her desires.
Starring the book by, "Once upon a time there was a prostitute" and ending the book by justification of the start, Paulo very easily takes his readers to a journey of a woman's(rather prostitute's) sense of perceiving world and most importantly the men.

This is one of my top favorite novels.

BooksAndChopsticks @msc1977 did you read the Alchemist? And if so, how does it compare to Eleven Minutes. Surprised that lots of Litsy folks found the Alchemist boring. 7y

msc1977 @BooksAndChopsticks Eleven minutes is a whole new world apart from the Alchemists. You can't really compare the two, although they both do sneak in little life lessons. 7y

Another Book Club Book and my first Paulo Coelho. Anyone read him in a language other than English? I loved what he had to say about relationships it just seemed like he was simplifying it too much. The female character was very basic which was disappointing. Will pass it on to my partner, Stewy to read regardless.
