This is the 1st Sherlock I‘ve read, but I‘ve read/watched many spin-offs which I love. I didn‘t realize that it would be a collection of short stories. Most spin-offs are of 1 case with a strong B-storyline. The mysteries were excellent but it was missing that B-storyline that pulls me through the narrative. I think if there was more character development with Watson then it wouldn‘t have taken so long to read it. I felt no urgency to pick it up.

This collection contains more stories about Moriarty, including how Holmes managed to survive their clifftop fall. My favourite is the Six Napoleons, which was quite faithfully recreated for the Sherlock series.

November has not been a good month for me in many ways, including my reading. I only read Nancy Drew in week 2, and it was barely tolerable. In week 3, only a short story from Sherlock Holmes. Hoping for a better month in December.

Found 4 more words in THE RETURN OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. I'm most excited to have found the word CHESTNUT, and it wasn't roasting on an open fire! 😂

We thank you Mr Conan Doyle!
Who would you lobby to bring back a fictional character?
Very similar to his Memoirs except for the first story but I won‘t spoil the surprise. My favorite amongst the 13 tales was The Second Stain. A high profile case that could have led to A World War or scandal had it not been for the inquisitive Holmes and his ever curious side-kick Watson. An enjoyable read. Highly recommended for a bus ride to work as you could easily get through one tale in a half hours time.
“Things had indeed been very slow with us, and I had learned to #dread such periods of inaction, for I knew by experience that my companion's brain was so abnormally active that it was dangerous to leave it without material upon which to work.“ #QuotsyOct19
Since I love everything Sherlock I much expected to enjoy this short story. I did.
The great thing about Doyle, is that because we're used to the way Sherlock Holmes speaks, there's very little dialogue that's misunderstood
Trying to read as much as I can on my last week of vacation!
It's been a while, but I got back into reading through Sherlock. My only complaint about this collection of short stories is how abruptly each of them ends. But, since they were probably published as serials in a magazine or a newspaper, there was probably a word count range. ⭐⭐⭐✨/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

July was an interesting reading month. I finished more than I expected and really enjoyed several, but I don‘t think I can choose favorites because they were so different.

I just finished reading “The Adventure of the Second Stain.” Very interesting resolution, especially because we once again see Sherlock‘s compassionate side. I‘ve enjoyed this collection. Thanks to everyone who joined this round of #sherlocked!
I‘m having trouble tagging, but I hope that those who are interested will continue reading the Sherlock canon with me in the future.
I finished “The Adventure of the Second Stain” this morning, wrapping up another great Sherlock Holmes short story collection. I think my favorites of this set were “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons” and “The Adventure of the Golden Prince-Nez,” but I enjoyed almost all of them. I liked the variety, as well as seeing the more intuitive and compassionate aspects of Holmes.

We have reached the last story in The Return of Sherlock Holmes for our #sherlocked readalong! “The Adventure of the Second Stain” is ACD‘s 8th favorite Sherlock story.
I am torn on this one. There were things I liked, yet for some reason I didn‘t truly enjoy it. It may be partly that I tried on audio first while replacing knives on the hay conditioner, then realized I wasn‘t concentrating enough and started over in #SerialReader when I got home. It also felt somewhat predictable to me in that the easy answer being wrong was too obvious.

Next up for #sherlocked: “The Adventure of The Abbey Grange.” When a man appears to have been killed by burglars, Sherlock is asked to examine the scene.
Finished this story this afternoon and I‘m impressed by how much I‘m enjoying this collection. I did not expect it to be as good as the earlier ones, but I think I like it just as well. I found the rugby confusion and the doctor‘s ability to elude Holmes added quite a bit of humor to this story for me.
#Sherlocked #readalong #SerialReader
I read “The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez” yesterday and it was one of my favorites in this collection so far. I started “The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter” today, and (like Sherlock) I had no idea that it had something to do with rugby. 😂 Strong start on this one so far. #sherlocked
Ok, don‘t go with the first answer you have, consider alternatives. Also, maybe do some research on your clues. In other words, be like Sherlock! #Sherlocked
Something tells me Sherlock might agree with Henry Miller on #travel - “One's destination is never a place, but always a new way of seeing things.” Sherlock likes to see the scene of a crime for himself. I wonder what‘s in Norway?

It has been a beautiful day! I helped haul big round bales this morning and read another issue of this story while I waited for Dad to load the trailers. Then I finished it tonight before fireworks. I enjoyed this one and the explanation of the clues Holmes used to solve the mystery.

So I finish this ahead of schedule. I did part audio and part print. Love the narration by David Timson. I enjoyed all the stories but my favourites are: The Adventure of ....
➡️ The Norwood Builder
➡️ The Dancing Men
➡️ The Solitary Cyclist
➡️ Charles Augustus Milverton
➡️ The Golden Pince-Nez
➡️ The Abbey Grange
Rating: 4🌟
Thank you @tjwill @Daisey for hosting #sherlocked! 💖
Now officially behind on all my scheduled reading, but I did start this story this morning with breakfast. Sounds like it might be an interesting one.
#Sherlocked #readalong #SerialReader
I also read one more section of The Shaping of Middle-Earth last night so I‘m ready to start “The Earliest Annals of Valinor.”
#YearofTolkien
I was out of town for the weekend and realized that I got behind for #sherlocked. Luckily, Three Students is short, so I read it today. It was interesting but not my favorite. Next, the Golden Pince-Nez.
In this #mystery we see Sherlock‘s curiosity and, as noted by Einstein, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.”

Good Morning! I finished this short one, only two issues on #SerialReader, and it was ok. Nothing about it really stood out to me in comparison to a few others I‘ve really enjoyed.
I doubt I‘ll get a chance to start “The Adventure of the Golden Prince-nez” today, but it is up next. Hope everyone else is enjoying the stories!
#Sherlocked #readalong
I think I may have a new favorite in this collection! I like it when we get to see the steps Holmes takes investigating and there‘s interaction between Holmes and Watson (and in this case Lestrade). I also found the mystery itself interesting. This one seemed familiar, which from someone else‘s comments, I‘m guessing is from my vague memories of a BBC Sherlock episode. I need to do some rewatching soon.

I nearly murder my Sherlock Holmes to take this photo...
I'm behind with everything. I'm two stories behind in the #Sherlocked readalong (tried to listen to one yesterday as work, but it was impossible) l'm behind of three or four section in the #YearOfTolkien readalong, but trying to catch up this weekend.
The non-fiction about Weimar has languished since last winter. And l'm also reading a novel on my Kobo.
I'm a couple of stories behind, but hope full l can catch up soon.
This was a fun one. Not as good as the Priory School, in my opinion, but still enjoyable. I liked the idea of a pupil following in Holmes's steps.
#Sherlocked
I really liked this one! It was not the kind of story I expect from Sherlock, but it was a fun read with a different ending than most.
#Sherlocked #readalong #SerialReader
Getting ready to start “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons” for #sherlocked. This one has busts of Napoleon being destroyed, which reminds me that the BBC Sherlock uses busts of Margaret Thatcher in adapting this story.
I watched the episode of Charles Augustus Milverton (changed to Magnusson), as recommended by @jpmcwisemorgan and I liked how it used the original story. I‘m hoping this story is as good as that one was.
I really liked this story. The bad guy was quite clever in hiding his tracks. There were several suspects and not everybody was just what we thought he was in the beginning. ⠀

Hi, #sherlocked friends! I‘m late getting started on this one but expect to read it all tomorrow since it is a fairly short one. “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton” is apparently based on the real person of Charles Augustus Howell, an art dealer and blackmailer. I‘ve been looking forward to this one; I‘ve heard good things about it.

Finished this up this morning. I thought it was a good one, some of the twists dependent on Sherlock knowing things we don‘t know, but we were given most of the clues. Good mystery, satisfying explanation. 👍🏼
I had a good week, but it included a lot of interaction with people I had just met. Today, I was happy to get back to the beautiful outdoors (Yay for rain this week and cooler temps!) and farm work. I read part of this story waiting at the end of the field and finished when I got back to the house.
I liked the story, but nothing really impressed me, although the harpoon was an interesting choice.

Next up for #Sherlocked: “The Adventure of Black Peter”
Originally published in 1904 in Strand Magazine and Collier‘s

Finished another issue, The Adventure of the Priory School. This may be my favorite so far in this collection. Some unexpected twists and turns.
I enjoyed this one more than the previous story. It was a bit more twisty and better showed Sherlock using his skills to figure things out.
#Sherlocked #readalong #SerialReader
Thanks for sharing this, @Daisey ! I love a good book map! #sherlocked
Next up is “The Adventure of the Priory School” and it starts off with more of a mystery than the last one. I‘m intrigued and enjoying this one so far. I looked up the sketch of the map if anyone is interested, although the writing is not very clear.
Who else is reading this one and what are your thoughts?
