My faves are 1951 (Alistair Sim) and 1984 (George C. Scott). What's yours?
There is only one #Scrooge for me!

My annual re-read.
This year I chose to listen to the Hugh Grant reading, it was a different experience than actually reading it.
I still enjoyed it immensely
I didn‘t walk today. Instead, we all spent our day watching Christmas movies, playing games, and reading. I did my annual read of A Christmas Carol, while my daughter read Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich. It was a relaxing day, and I found myself, as usual, particularly struck by Dickens‘ language. This time I was amazed by how completely he can describe someone with just a few words, allowing you to picture these people fully formed.

This was the first Dickens I had ever read, and I was surprised at how humorous he was. I remember being completely moved at Scrooge‘s transformation. It still gets me. 😢

I was so tempted to look this up, but I wanted to hear everybody‘s thoughts first.

My first encounter with a Christmas Carol was reading an excerpt at age 10, the exchange between Scrooge and his nephew. And for weeks afterwards, my friends and I went around saying Bah, Humbug. A few years later, during a storm, I sat by the fireside and read the whole book. I remember thinking how humorous that opening paragraph actually is. Was this your first read?
I needed a smaller book to carry around for the next few days, rather than the massive but beautiful Christmas tome of Dickens‘ stories. So I have this little book for the next couple of days so I can enjoy the best of Dickens!!
I‘ll also be listening to it while doing chores getting ready for the big day! #littenlisten @aperfectmjk

Who‘s watching The Muppet Christmas Carol tonight?
Ghosts scare rich miser into becoming a decent human and sharing his wealth.
I can‘t think of a time when this message isn‘t sorely needed.
I‘ve seen a number of movie adaptations dozens of times but this is the first time I‘ve read the book. I really enjoyed this version narrated by Hugh Grant.
One #holidaytradition I love is going to my local production of A Christmas Carol each year! Got second row seats this time!

I read this for the first time seven years ago. Always figured I would reread it because I enjoyed it so much. Finally did this year. I‘m surprised I didn‘t revisit it sooner.
Found this little Lego kit at a Lego con this summer. My baby girl helped me put it together, because she‘s our resident LEGO expert. A Christmas Carol is my absolute favorite holiday book!

For the last few years I‘ve made it a tradition to listen to this two books. I really love Hugh Grant‘s narration on A Christmas Carol, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a childhood favorite. Written in the 1970s, some of the humor and characterizations are pretty dated but the story is still sweet. I‘d like to see the new movie version to see how it translates.
I was a bit dubious about this audiobook as I am not a HUGE Hugh Grant fan (don‘t get me wrong though I will watch his films 😂). But this was actually pretty good!
This Christmas classic also has 152 wordsearch words in it 😉

Well, I finally did it! My first complete audio read by the indomitable Tim Curry. I chose this book because I know it so well and reread it every year. This time, I let Mr. Curry tell the tale, and he certainly did not disappoint! I cleaned the entire house while listening, and I didn't want it to end. We all know what a gem this story is, so it needs to be placed in the voice of an expert orator. Well done, Mr. Curry; a “whoop“ to you, too!
Got a very old (as in from the year of publishing, although from a German publisher) copy of A Christmas Carol for my birthday!

For many of us, this is a reread every year. Have you read it this year yet? If you have or if you have not and want to join in a gentle buddy read, with a quick discussion Christmas Eve, December 24th, let me know and I will tag you. This is open to all, but I will tag members.

Can't remember if I've posted this one before, but no matter - it's a classic pre-Christmas read. (Also, the Muppets movie version is hands down my favourite Christmas movie!) #bookthirteenof2024

A personal favourite, and the centrepiece of my literature collection, Charles Dickens‘ A Christmas Carol is the ultimate holiday story of redemption. Ebenezer Scrooge is a stingy old miser who can‘t stand holiday cheer—or people altogether. One Christmas Eve, he‘s visited by three spirits who take him on a journey through his past, present, and future. Along the way, Scrooge is forced to confront the impact of his choices and make a change.
“Business!” Cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. “Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
I‘ve read this every December for the last 5-6. The above quote especially struck me this year as something we should all remember.
Read this at the beginning of this month but forgot to post (well listened to it - Hugh Grant narration). Need to rewatch rhe Muppets soon :) #DecemberRitual
Doesn‘t matter how many times I read this classic, I still love it so much 😊
#wintergames2024 week 1 books finished. A Christmas Carol was my favorite (as always) but The Geek Who Saved Christmas was really cute! #XmasChaCha
I have to admit, I have never READ A Christmas Carol. Of course, I‘ve seen several movie adaptations (The Muppet version is the best version and nobody can tell me otherwise). Finally sitting down to read this story, I can see how it has become such a beloved classic. Also, I had no idea that it was such a short read!
