First book in a mystery series, it offered me a very enjoyable read, perfect for relaxing. It's the type of books, I put in my guilty pleasure stack. It's a perfect palate cleanser, or a perfect read if you need a pick-me-up. While the crime is gruesome, romance is very present. The plot is very predictable, the romance part as well, but sometimes it's what you need ;)

This was okay-ish. It reminded me a lot of Deanna Raybourn's Lady Julia Grey series. Not sure I'll continue reading the Lady Darby series, though.

The mystery wasn't very mysterious for me and I didn't really fall for the characters.

A murder at a remote Scottish castle brings together a woman with a shady reputation and a rake with investigation experience, and sparks fly! Also lots of gowns.

Nicely narrated audiobook with some unfortunate technical inconsistencies and copy editing boo boos.

Book 2 of #fabulousfebruary and book 11 of the year.

I read more chapters of The Fifth Season and Mansfield Park (finally got past the $&*% play!) and finished A Great Reckoning.

We decided on our next few months of mystery book club selections, and I started the audiobook of our March book (tagged). While I was playing around in Libby, I went ahead and put holds on some upcoming #AAM selections.

This is a consistently good historical mystery series. Lady Darby is a complex character, and the author has developed her romantic relationship through the series without sacrificing the mystery story lines.

I finally got to reading this mystery, the 1st in a series, that @Lynnsoprano gifted me a while ago. I like that Lady Darby is an artist, but that aspect isn‘t fully explored in this book. A murder occurs at a house (castle?) party & Lady Darby helps to solve it. I‘m sure the characters continue to be developed as the series continues— will keep an eye out for the rest.

Minor quibble— the outfit/hair on cover doesn‘t match 1830s dress styles 😏

Another edition of bathtime reads! Finally finished this great mystery (given to me by another person on Litsy). Victorian-era Scotland setting. Fantastic heroine. The murder they were solving made me the slightest bit squeamish (main character used to draw for the dissections her anatomist husband did, so she knows what to look for on dead bodies) but the rest of the book was well done and enjoyable. I want to read the rest of the series! 4🌟

A little over the top for me but ok.

When a house party goes terribly wrong, Lady Darby must help to investigate, thanks to the knowledge she acquired with her late husband. This mystery is another enjoyable historical, feisty-female-protagonist one, and I‘m looking forward to many more mysteries with Lady Darby.

This book is only $.99 today on Kindle and Nook! This book is the start of a fantastic series. I couldn't put this book down when I read it. Stayed up until 3am to finish it. Highly recommend.

I love historical fiction. Is my #2 favorite genre. I look forward to watching Lady Darby come into her own.

Gothic mystery with a (very) light romance. Widow of an accused gravesnatcher and a son of a detective team up in the Scottish highlands to solve a grisly murder at a house party.

This book was so good! Lady Darby is smart and clever and doesn‘t quit until she‘s certain the mystery is solved. I kept wanting her and Gage to have a sexy moment and had to remind myself it wasn‘t that type of book. Apparently I read too many historical romances! This is set in Scotland in the 1800s in a castle, but this is definitely a mystery!

The calm before the storm. Settling in and trying to get some reading in, while enjoying snuggles. I‘m glad I‘m finally getting to this book, as I‘ve been wanting to read it for a while.

We are supposed to be getting 8-12 inches of snow tonight. 😬😬 But I work from home, so I won‘t get a snow day tomorrow. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just a quick note that I am happy to be back at Litsy. The interface now works with my phone. I feel like I won a prize.

Moose kept me company as I lay in bed and finished this lovely mystery. I loved the unorthodox main character and her part in solving it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An entertaining start to the series featuring Lady Darby. Fleeing London after the death of her husband & the scandalous aftermath, Kiera Darby takes up residence with her sister‘s family content to paint & hide away from the world in their Highland home. When a weekend house party turns deadly, Kiera is asked to help Sebastian Gage investigate the crime. A solid historical mystery that gives you plenty of reason to read the sequel. A fun read.

Wow. This one hooked me hard. Had it not been for my responsible side taking over forcing me to put it down and go to sleep, I would have read it in one sitting! I‘m already anxiously awaiting my library hold for the next book in the series 😊

I stayed up too late last night finishing this! Good suspense and atmosphere, with an interesting protoganist back-story. Our heroine, a widow, was forced by her late husband to illustrate his dissections, leading to her being vilified as an "unnatural" woman. I did guess who dunnit before the big reveal, but not till pretty late in the game.

Regency set mystery with a strong female lead, and a hint of romance. Picking up the next in the series immediately!

Finished the first Victoria Speedwell novel by Deanna Raybourn and since I don‘t have the second one on hand to dive right into, I think I‘ll try this. Especially as DR and many of you seem to give it high praise!

DNF. It's not bad or anything but after reading other things a couple nights in a row, I feel no inclination to get back to it. It was heavier on the burgeoning romance plotline than the mystery and I'd have preferred it the other way around.

Who's read this? I'm about 100 pages in and keep finding myself skimming bits :/. I'm interested in the murder mystery and Lady Darby's past but bored to death of the standard issue awkward period romance bits.

I enjoyed this historical murder mystery set in a Scottish castle. A young noblewoman is murdered during a house party and evidence points to the host's sister in law , Kiera . As an anatomist's wife and illustrator, Kiera finds herself unjustly accused of the gruesome killing. Naturally she must solve the crime and flirt a bit with the handsome Mr Gage.
