Vivian has one of my most favorite narrative voices, and I must admit, I didn't see the final twist with Violet's story coming! Kind of wish we had gotten more of the resolution with Doctor Paul, but at least it all worked out for them. #historicalfiction

This is the first in a trilogy and they are all so good and well researched! I‘m a huge Beatriz fan!! Especially of her backlist. Some of her new novels are not as well written, but I‘ll read them!!
This was a great book to listen to. We have dual storylines set in 1914 and 1964. Vivian in 1964 is trying to find out what happened to her great aunt Violet, a brilliant scientist who was accused of murdering her fellow scientist husband and falling off the face of the earth in 1914. I especially loved Vivian‘s part and I think the #audiobook is the way to go. 4⭐️

Today‘s Prompt: SELF
Violet was a SELF-made woman that knew what she wanted, but she also was a bit submissive as women were in the early 1900's.
A truly delightful, witty read. The ending held a secret and surprise of its own.
♥️♥️ This is a FAVORITE. ♥️♥️

6-6-21: My 60th finished book of 2021! Manhattan 1964. Vivian Schuyler works for Metropolitan Magazine. After receiving an unexpected package in the mail, she believes she has the beginnings of a great story. Berlin 1914. Violet Schuyler, a scientist, is trying to make a name for herself in a male dominated field. How will Violet and Vivian‘s stories sync up? This was a fun read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💖📖#️⃣6️⃣0️⃣
Vivian Schuyler receives a mysterious package one fall day in 1964. It turns out to be the lost suitcase of an aunt she didn‘t know existed-who was last seen in Germany in 1914. I loved this-the characters, the settings, both timelines.
This is my May #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
What a great read! This story speeds along, and it pulled me with it. The characters were interesting, the plot unique, I thought. A dual timeline, alternating between 1914 and 1964. I figured out the plot twist at the end, but it didn‘t affect my enjoyment of the story. Thanks again, Misty😘
I received this from @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks just a couple days after I got my nails done in sparkling violet. I think that‘s a sign that I should start this now 😄
#LitsyLove What a wonderful surprise in the mail today! Thank you, Misty, I don‘t have this one, and it will move to the top of the TBR. Thanks, dear friend😘
I loved this book! Definitely a favorite of 2020. The dual perspective and timeline was perfectly done as Vivian (1964) researches the scandalous history of her Great Aunt Violet when Vivian is mysteriously forwarded Violet's suitcase from Germany in 1914. Vivian is spunky with the best quips, and any woman would love to have her flirtatious confidence. Violet is also a feminist for the ages as a female scientist at the top of her class. 5 stars!
Slowing down in reading this and other things because being overset by wildfires and high winds and crazy times...

Well, this was a very solid grid of reading. Look at all those 4.5 which equate to an A- But hey, an A‘s an A! I chose the tagged because I‘m curious to read more about the Schuyler sisters!
5* = Loved It, want non-reader IRL friends to read. I do/will own a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Average C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F
Creepy grooming men are just gross, but thinking of them in 1914 is even worse since women had limited options to fight abusive men. Also, the split timeline so often written into HF is much more fun when the MC of the timeline researching back is as spunky Vivian Schuler.

I left books on my chair and Eddy Charcoal decided to pose with them! Still reading the Sea for Breakfast, but I‘ll be starting Violet soon! #ReadYourSign
“ I wanted the rattle of #NewYork around me, I wanted stink and strangers and the sour dank air of the IRT clutching me to its bosom. I wanted hustle and bustle. I wanted to know that millions of lives were playing out at my doorstep, and not one of them gave a damn about my little problems.”
Love Beatriz!!! 💗💗💗

I. AM. IN. LOVE. I have never loved a narrator more than I love Vivian. I told my husband I now want the first name of our first daughter to be Vivian 😂 She is hilarious!!! I was literally laughing aloud at her jokes.
I got halfway thru and just couldn‘t keep going. Vivian annoyed me too much and I lost interest in her story 🤷🏼♀️
Some days, one glass of wine ain‘t enough 🤫 📚
(PS- in the background is a copy of my ‘Instant Pot Bible‘, not a Pot Bible 😂 I noticed it AFTER I edited my photo and didn‘t feel like re-taking it sans ‘Pot Bible‘ in the background -insert lazy shrug here-)
#TBRtemptation post 4! First in a (so-far trilogy) series. Manhattan, 1964. Recent Bryn Mawr grad Vivian Schuyler bucks Fifth Ave tradition entering the Mad Men world of Metropolitan Magazine. A parcel arrives whose contents concern family history & an aunt wiped from records.
Berlin, 1914. Violet Schuyler Grant endures her rocky marriage to a scientist so as to be a physicist. A British captain offers something else.

A fun novel with two time eras, filled with a touch of suspense and a lot of romance. This was my first novel exclusively by Williams (I read her collaborative work The Glass Ocean earlier), & I am now a fan of her work. Vivian Schuyler is vivacious, sarcastic, and a tad nosy; Violet Grant is intelligent and a woman ahead of her time. Can‘t wait to read more by Williams!

Third day start time for #24B42019 . Making progress in my pile of books. I also realized I probably will not finish War and Peace by tomorrow - even at warp speed listening, there is way too much left, and at 1.75x, the excited Russian characters sound really cartoonish! But, I‘m glad I switched to audio for the first time reading it. I can go back and savor so much later with a strict book read.

This took me forever to get in to, but I have learned to be patient with Beatriz Williams. I ended up enjoying this quite a bit.
On vacation last week, I read my first Beatriz Williams - it was a hoot! Reminded me of Kate Morton, but with more sexy times. 😄 Perfect vacation read, and I‘ll definitely be reading more of hers.
(Our cat wouldn‘t cooperate for the photo, so my daughter volunteered. 😁)

I know there are a lot of fans on here - I‘m not a massive fan of romances- is there another storyline too? Not holding my attention at the moment.
I got my very first Beatriz Williams book today! As I bought it I thought of you @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 😍😘 I haven‘t read any of her books but I have heard soooo sooo many of you rave over her here on Litsy so I took the plunge! Look forward to reading this one!

I had never read any Beatriz Williams until this year. Now she is a favorite author of mine and I give her books 4-5 stars. This was my first book of hers and I loved that it was historical fiction without the fluff. I am tagging @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks because she was the person that encouraged me to read Williams!
Thanks for the giveaway @Mommamanzi
I need a lighthearted, yet meaty book this morning while waiting for my car‘s check up. This will do the trick! I‘m telling all my IRL friends that Williams is fast becoming my new favorite author. It‘s light, yet there‘s an undertone of serious situations that keeps the narrative pulsing.
This juicy, dishy book was right up my alley. There's something for everyone here with two time periods (1914 & 1964), major secrets, family history, romance, betrayal, danger, murder, a lady scientist, and a whole lot else to make this an addictive, hard-to-put-down story. This is my first of her historical women's fiction, and I'm kicking myself for having waited so long to finally read her. I can't wait to read the rest of her books!
