I loved this book so much. There is not much dialogue. Pure action and integrity in the hearts of two young boys of Shoshone heritage. I loved the loose magical realism with the telepathy of the natives. The trickery and the development of the two separate personalities were just simply delightful. The time with the Roma. I could go on and on. My only wish is I want to read it in it's original language. #LitsyAtoZ @Texreader
I finally finished rereading ZORRO while I hung around outside with Casey! It wasn‘t terrible, but it wasn‘t anywhere near as gripping as it was the first time, either. Sadness.
At least I made a bit of space on my Keepers shelf.
I took an early bike ride to get ahead of the heat, with a stop-off at McDonald‘s for an iced coffee and a bit more of ZORRO. I‘ve decided I‘ll stick with the book, but I‘m not sure yet if I‘ll read the rest of it straight through or take another break at the end of my current Part.
Bedside book stack: Solstice edition.
ZORRO was one of my top books back in 2006, when its long descriptive paragraphs and scant dialogue pulled me straight into the characters‘ world. Here in 2022, that approach has had the opposite effect on me, and the anti-Indigenous bias sours things even further. I‘m not sure if I want to bail or make it an in-between book, but either way, I doubt it‘ll stay on my shelf after this long-awaited reread. 😔
It‘s 10:39pm and this is my last book of 2021. #AAM
Overall, I enjoyed this story of how Diego de la Vega came to be Zorro, even though it felt like it took forever to get there at times. This novel is as much, or maybe even more, a historical fiction as it is an adventure novel.

Another title that has been languishing on my shelves. I don't know why as Allende is one of my favorite authors.
¡Por fin lo terminé!
It took way too long, but I finally finished reading this. I really like the spin Allende put on the Zorro legend. I especially liked the narrator 😉

While my school year started out OK, the same frustrations are surfacing again. I'm in a crappy mental place and I can't shake my negative attitude. I have a long weekend, so I'm going to try and get lost in one of the many books I've started and never finished.
There's a flow to the writing that makes the pages fly. It's lovely. Less lovely was the feeling that very little happened in 600+ pages. Much of the plot itself dragged, and the background info slowed the pace too much. I did appreciate the foundation this built for the Zorro legend, and all the action-packed swashbuckling parts. I wished we'd spent more time with Isabel, and I think a sequel would be fun. I wouldn't revisit this one though.

Finished Z of #LitsyAtoZ but I still have 4 letters left and only 2 weeks... plus book club books to read! Can I make it? 😓
"Naturally, every idealist attracts enemies, but we prefer to count our friends, who are much greater in number."
I have never understood all the fuss about male honor. You have to be slow in the head to risk your life over a trifle.
...any information, even the most trivial, could at some point be useful.
He began to practice his skill at reading people‘s actions, and in that way discovered that words do not always correspond to intentions. He realized that bullies are generally easy to cow, that the loudest are the least sincere, that arrogance is a quality of the ignorant, and that flatterers tend to be vicious. #zorro #isabelallende
@Louise Your package arrived today and I‘m loving everything in it! The library themed wrapping paper is gorgeous! I hated to unwrap it! Can‘t wait to read Zorro (although I‘m woefully behind reading any of my print books 😞). And the bookmark is extra special because I just so happen to own the artwork which is one of my favorite pieces! I love the diversity and sisterhood that the art represents! Many thanks!! 💞💞💞
Thanks so much @Lcsmcat for the book! It arrived today, and I‘m looking forward to reading it!
Isabel Allende was born in Peru and raised in Chile. This book is #TBR, picked for a couple of reading challenges.

#bookmail for one of my reading challenges.
Thank you! Thank you @Louise for my #summersantagoespostal box. It is amazing. I love everyone of the books. I can't wait to start them. You are right about Zorro and The scarf is so soft.
Thanks for organizing @BookishMarginalia
#Shelfi of one of my bookshelves. Zorro is on top of the stack to the left. #readingwomenmonth @thereadingwomen
I didn't like this as much as other Allende novels I have read. It was very slow to get going and treated the characters more superficially than I would like. It felt like someone's description of a plot rather than a fleshed out novel. It got better in the later sections, and I kept reading because of #LitsyAtoZ, so hat makes it closer to a pick, but still a so-so. #letterZ @BookishMarginalia
"Bernardo asked the grandmother with gestures how it could be that the most beautiful girl in the universe would love him, that he was a flea, and she answered that she didn't know, that women were strange that way." #LitsyAtoZ #letterZ @BookishMarginalia
An awesome retelling of the legendary #masked hero by Isabel Allende. #aprilbookshowers

So, I didn't lose my job today (yay!), but found out my boss was let go, he didn't leave by choice, so fear of the pink slip is real. Fortunately, I had a little #bookmail waiting for me when I got home - my #letterZ for #litsyatoz. I really need to stick to a book buying ban for a bit, though. Just in case...😱
Another diverse book haul!! Got some Egyptian, Chilean, Vietnamese, Iranian, & Indian literatures!!

I searched all my shelves but could not find a single book starting with X. I guess I'd better go buy one!

This was one of my #wanttoreadindec books, but I listened to the first CD, and I'm so bored! I don't know if it's the book or just my expectations, but I wanted this to be exciting, and so far I'm getting boring failing marriage and soldier in retirement sprinkled with a few interesting historical and cultural references. Maybe I'll come back to it later sometime. I also plan on finishing Neverwhere! #seasonsreadings2016
It's been years since I read this but I remember that this was good.
