I thought my girls (either one) might like this (they weren't interested) and then started reading it myself. Call me a prude but I don't think talking about "having his fun" and lust belong in a children's book ?

Love Neil Gaiman and Norse Mythology. In this tale Odd meets a bear, a fox and an eagle who talk and aren't really animals 🐻🦊🦅

I love Gaiman's writing style and this was a pretty good story, but it just felt too rushed.
Quick easy read, I like the edition with Chris Riddell‘s illustrations the most because I‘m just a huge Riddell fan but the Brett Helquist edition is still cool too. Drawing on both Norse mythology and historical Vikings it tells a fun story of small and clever Odd who goes on an adventure with the animal shaped gods Odin, Thor and Loki to help them return to Asgard and regain their human forms again.
Now THIS is more like it! This is as if L Frank Baum and Rick Riordan teamed up to create a children‘s novella ! Very fun and entertaining listen with interesting characters ! With Gaiman narrating his own book, I felt as if I were a child being read a bedtime story! Will definitely be reading this to my future child one day

Please 🐻 with me as I will now go through a Gaiman binge of short stories (pun intended) ....Meanwhile I‘m making dark chocolate chip cookies 🍪

What a fun adventure!
Pairing two of my favourites Neil and Chris this book was everything I'd hoped it to be.
Beautifully illustrated, fun, quirky and just the escapade I was looking for.
I seem to go through these stages, a few years back it was all Greek Mythology, the Roman Mythology and now it's Norse Mythology. And this book delivered just the right dosages to keep me entertained and enlightened.
There was a boy called Odd, and there was nothing strange or unusual about that, not in that time or place

I only realised now that I never allocate a book to #TheReadingRush prompt to read a book in a genre I wanted to read more of.
So here's my pick!

Every time I open a Neil Gaiman book, whether for children or adults, I feel like I‘m at home. This is just gorgeous.
Super cute short story about a little boy who helps Odin, Thor, and Loki take back Asgard from a vengeful Frost Giant.
This was a cute short book about a boy helping Thor, Loki and Odin return to Asgard. He learns about himself and grows up.

“The wise man knows when to keep silent. Only the fool tells all he knows.”
This book is about a Viking boy named Odd, who sets off on an adventure with Norse gods Thor, Loki, and Odin to save Asgard from the frost giants. A tender tale suitable for older kids and adults (though there‘re no brutal parts) and a good introduction to Norse mythology. Perhaps it‘s a perfect time for me to pick up his adult book Norse Mythology next.

It's been years since I read this. Still an excellent Norse mythology story written with young readers in mind but lovely enough for everyone. You just can't ever go wrong with Gaiman and Norse mythos. 2nd #AuthorAMonth book down. @Soubhiville
1. Odd and the Frost Giants and Trigger Warning
2. Ghost Boys
3. Cold temps!

My first Gaiman kids‘ book, and I really liked it. I love the way he takes a familiar story and turns it into his own, without hurting the spirit of the original. It‘s a rare gift.
Posted out of order, this was my fifth completion for #24B4Monday and #SummersEndReadathon.

First day of school this morning, and we had time to finish the last two chapters of this before we left the house (I‘d like to pretend I just have this motherhood thing down pat, but honestly, it‘s probably a sign of the apocalypse)…9 year old loved it, really related to Odd. Great read aloud book, with so few characters that you can really go nuts with voices
1. Blueberries (especially picked fresh from a Norwegian mountainside-Kvamskogen, to be exact, where I learned to love them)
2. Lonesome Dove ❤️❤️❤️
3. See tagged book. Technically not a graphic novel, but close. I think I‘d love The Graveyard Book graphic novel because I loved the book.
4. Ideally? Living at our lakehouse and working part-time. Probably? Same ole, same ole.

Gaiman takes us to a #Frozen world in this little book. A world of gods, frost giants, quests and vikings. I love everything dealing with Nordic Mythology, and this was no exception 👌❄️
#WinterWonderland
Listened to this one on audio with my kids. Gaiman, as always, is a superb narrator. I could listen to that man talk forever. Fun, engaging story, and all my many ages of kids liked it. Any other recommendations for short audio books for all ages? We just finished Gaiman‘s Fortunately the Milk as well.
On this frosty day i treated myself to #papaG‘s norse fairytale about what makes a happy marriage and when to speak and when to remain silently smiling. Ridell and Gaiman are as always a perfect match and i love the shiny silver hard cover edition 😍 #litsygaimanfanclub
I love Gaiman, and he writes equally well for children and adults alike.
This edition of Odd and the Frost Giants is a classic and adventurous tale, and beautifully illustrated throughout
Another Audiobook finished!! And another amazing story by Gaiman. This one is Norse mythology, Odin, Loki, Thor and Lady Freya, and how their world was saved by a small boy named Odd. It was a cute retelling and once again Gaiman knows just how much and how little to add.
Why yes, I did start another Audiobook by Neil Gaiman. I am loving this one so far. I love anything related to Norse mythology so this one is right up my alley!!
I am home all weekend so might as well take advantage of getting through my audiobooks I borrowed from my library.
Making lavender cupcakes and listening to this fun kids book on Scribd. #tistheseason #sweetsandaudiobooks
This was my first audio book narrated by Neil Gaiman. It will not be my last! He has a great reading voice! This was a quick and delightful story about Odd. He is a crippled boy that has to help the Norse gods against a Frost Giant. I loved this story. Now to download more Gaiman books!
A cute Norse retelling involving Loki, Thor and Odin - changed into a fox, bear and eagle - who need the help of a young boy named Odd to defeat the frost giant who took Thor‘s hammer and invaded Asgard.
It‘s a perfect read following Gaiman‘s Norse mythology, as some of the myths are alluded to in Odd. #neilgaiman #norsemythology

The illustrations in this book are GORGEOUS. I have four of Gaiman‘s books that are illustrated by Chris Riddell, but the illustrations in this one are my favorite of the bunch. #neilgaiman #norsemythology
I adore Neil Gaiman, both the man and his writing. I dream vividly and they are usually most unsettling in nature. However, last night I dreamt I was at Mr Gaiman's home, having dinner with him & his wife. What a lovely host he was! Though I don't remember the details, I recall that the conversation was splendid. That's a dream I'd be happy to see come true! 😂 #bookishdreams #neilgaiman
A few chapters in: We love the illustrations. We love the story.
The German translation, though. Some of the Gaiman charme is lost in translation.
Up next. We're reading this together.
Must be Chris Riddell Day here.
In fact, it is the book fairies day of reading.

The kids were thrilled with their #jryulebookswap loot from @julesG and children. And I'm looking forward to Girl Waits With Gun. Not pictured: heaps of sweets and meowing kitty keychains! 😄
Day 7 of #jingleshelves snow on cover. I usually don't like illustration stickers on covers, but I love the illustrations of Brett Helquist and it works so well on this book. Got to go to a talk by Gaiman a few years ago and it was amazing!
Fun story, thank you for the recommendation! I only wish I had known about the Riddell illustrated edition, it looks to be awesome.
