Decent ideas, corny writing. The writing about computers is downright painful. I read this one for my book club.

One of Crichton‘s most iconic books. It‘s as readable and engaging as ever (and a fair amount bloodier than I remember it being when I read it at 14).

⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was just ok. Maybe it was a better read 20 years ago? Slow to start, then picked up a bit. Some of it was good, but the rants by Malcolm were a bit too in the weeds for me and I tended to start skimming. It did make me want to watch the original movie again.

I couldn‘t not do a re-read of Jurassic Park for this month‘s #FoodAndLit #Costa Rica

This book is perfect summer reading to me, and it blew my mind the first time I read it in high school. I can even remember playing the music from the movie in high school band.

Now it seems silly that there were ever people who didn‘t know what a velociraptor was or how to use a computer, but it‘s still a wild ride.

Itchyfeetreader I remember reading this borrowed from my dad on a holiday - one of my first not for kids books! 1y

Finished! I skimmed the long mathematical and scientific rants and took in the story parts. I liked the ending and I‘m ready to watch the movie again. Last summer we took a whole day and did a 3-4 Jurassic movie marathon that the kids still talk about, it‘s a happy memory.

Many in my family loved this book more than the movie, it was honestly whatever to me.

My first time reading this and I can see why a lot of folks prefer the movie. Not bad, just a whole different vibe. This feels like more of a cautionary tale of what could happen if biological science with private companies goes unchecked. Whereas the movie feels more fresh and fun (even when dinosaurs are attacking, haha 🦖). 3.5⭐️

In a few hundred books I've read it turns out this is the only J I have lol. Unfortunately this is one of the very few instances where the movie was better. I liked the darker tones of the book, but some of the characters in the book bugged me... especially Lex. She was whiny and annoying in the book.

#AlphabetGame #LetterJ @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

eeclayton My pick for J, too, but I enjoyed the book as much as the movie, for different reasons. 2y
Bookish_Viking @eeclayton honestly it was mainly Lex, every time she spoke it was something whiny and she drove me nuts. In the movie she's brave and courageous, in the book I wanted her to get eaten lol. 2y
eeclayton @ReaperOfTerrasen can't argue with that 😂 2y

Who is ready for May??? Excited to read Jurassic Park for #NWC's monthly read?

Here is a schedule (if you need it) to help with ur monthly read. This book isn't numbered for the chapters. So I did what I could do for a schedule.

@ElizaMarie @AsYouWish @jb72

jb72 The book started a bit slow for me, but once into it, the story went pretty fast. 4y
AkashaVampie @jb72 it did seem long when I was trying to figure out the chapters/sections. 4y
jb72 @AkashaVampie Yeah it is a bit longer but still under 500 pages. And it is pretty interesting. 4y

I have wanted to read this for years - ever since I was in elementary school and my high school brother read is back in the early 90s. This is one of my favorite movies so it was hard to not make comparisons while reading... but man, was this book good. So involved and descriptive. The characters made you care... whether you loved them or hated them, you felt for them. It was such a great blend of action and science and I just really enjoyed it.

My first Crichton read. 🙌 I loved his writing style because of the detail in it, there's details on the characters and what they're going through etc. - also the detail in describing the surroundings and the atmosphere all of which make it very suspenseful for the reader.
.
🧬
There's also little diagrams and graphs in this particular version anyway relating to the story which makes the story very engaging.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

SheReadsAndWrites I love his writing. 🤓 4y
Nute I have listed several of his books as ‘favorite reads.‘ Jurassic Park is amongst them! 4y

What happens when science gets ahead of itself and doesn‘t fully think through its actions or believes there‘s a chance something out of the expected could happen? You get Jurassic Park. A zoo like theme park dedicated to providing a one of a kind experience thanks to science bringing back dinosaurs. The only issue? Things don‘t go the way they were supposed to and people might not be the true ruler over nature after all.

Schnoebs I loved this so much! Check out my Goodreads review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3314425677 5y

Let me start out with that I‘m enjoying this but here‘s the thing....

I watched this movie way too young and it gave me reoccurring nightmares. My thought process was “well, I really enjoyed his other book and one of my favorite narrators reads this so maybe I‘ll give it a try. You never know, it might help me get over my nightmare issues.” Well folks, I‘m half through and now can only read 5-10 pages at a time without freaking out. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Schnoebs I have zero idea how long this book is going to take me because I‘m the biggest scaredy cat. It‘s pathetic and somehow I thought reading one of the most classic thriller stories of my life time was a good idea. 5y

One of the benefits of working at the library that is currently not open to the public is being able to listen to music or an audiobook while I weed through the non-fiction. I'm about 60% through Jurassic Park. I'm enjoying the mix of action and science. #audioworking

#audiowalking on this sunny day. A little over 1/3 of the way through this book. I had forgotten, unlike the movie, Dr. Grant actually likes kids and the lawyer is not that bad. And Hammond is even more incredibly naive and irresponsible.

I had somehow never read this one, and it seriously cut into yesterday's productivity levels because I had trouble putting it down! A fun romp of a story, and I found myself wondering how it was marketed when it was first published, because realizing that these were DINOSAURS could have been a pretty serious mind-blow! I had some issues, mainly the constant philosophizing whilst fending off velociraptors - seriously, is this when you would ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) ACTUALLY be lecturing everyone on chaos theory??! VELOCIRAPTORS!!! The ending also felt awkward and abrupt. Still, all in all, this was a fun story that I had trouble putting down, and I am (perhaps foolishly, considering everything I need to get done today 😁) rolling straight into The Lost World. 5y
hannah-leeloo I loved these books. I agree Malcolm had interesting timing and was hard at times to keep up with his "theory". Happy reading hun ??? 5y

TheAromaofBooks @hannah-leeloo - I was just like, “Um, pretty sure you are dying of dinosaur wounds while velociraptors are nomming their way into your room so they can kill you and you are still TALKING ABOUT SCIENTIFIC THEORIES?! It just seemed unlikely! 😆 5y
hannah-leeloo @TheAromaofBooks yer I agree but he was very clever for a man becoming delusional hahaha. Alan Grant will always be my favourite 🦖 5y
Inkblotsandcoffeestains I agree with you on this! When I read it I laughed at how unlikely it would be to do anything but freak out! On another note though: I thought this was a million times better than the movie will ever be, which is saying a lot because I love the movie lol 5y
TheAromaofBooks @hannah-leeloo - yes I fell a little bit in love with Grant when I was reading this!! 😍 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Inkblotsandcoffeestains - it's been a really, really long time (like maybe 20 years lol) since I have seen the movie, so it seemed like a good time to read the book, when the movie wasn't really in my mind any more, if that makes sense. But now I'm interested to rewatch the movie and see how it stacks up! 5y
hannah-leeloo @TheAromaofBooks he's great in the films and books 😉 5y

This was fantastic and so different from the movie. Loved all the additional science bits. The writing style was compelling, kept up the tension. Overall, a fun page turner. Will probably pick this up again in a few years. Would highly recommend reading this if you liked the movie. This is better!

4.5/5 🌟

xxjenadanxx I keep meaning to read this because the movies are my favorites but I put it off. Maybe I'm scared of ruining the movies lol. 5y
