It‘s a remarkably complex story for one so short, and you can read a lot into it. I read it as a book about isolation – physical and psychological – and cruelty. It will send shivers up your spine, and it will no doubt frustrate you at times, but it‘s still an arresting read and you‘ll struggle to look away.
