#firstlinefridays A ten point buck and a dead body make the same sound when they hit the forest floor.
Almost halfway through and it really reminds me of a Good Girls Guide to Murder.
Fantastic YA mystery about five prep school boys, one of whom ends up dead, and the pact the others make to keep whodunnit a secret. Then there‘s Kate who is interning at the DA‘s office, and is tasked to dig through clues and take photos. Thoroughly entertaining, smart and better-constructed than lots of adult thrillers. Well-written, too. A total pick.
Five friends go on a hunting trip together, only four come back alive. What happened on that trip and who is responsible? The mystery of this short novel reals you in, but the steaks never really felt high enough. I was never really worried about the main characters, because it seemed clear that they were never really in jeopardy.
I didn‘t love this one and I think a big reason was because it didn‘t translate well to an audiobook with the mixed media. I found it to be confusing and hard to stay interested in. It had a good concept and story, but I just didn‘t love this one.

I am somewhere between a pick and a so-so with this one. It wasn‘t bad by any means but I never felt enthralled by it. Five teenage boys go out hunting and one of them doesn‘t return. The others boys all claim they don‘t know who was the shooter. Solid mystery but just didn‘t wow me. 3.5 🌟
I do these things pretty casually. I read what I want and see if they match any of these challenges at the end of the month. Honestly there‘s more than I thought! I read:
2 Manga volumes
10 Graphic Novels
6 Novels:
-2 Non-Fiction
-2 YA
-2 Adult
My favorite was the tagged book. Overall I read 18 things which is far better than my 1-4 things of late 🙄
I loved this one! 5 boys go hunting in the woods, 4 boys walk out. All used the murder weapon, but who took the kill shot? It‘s fast paced, tense and addictive. I didn‘t hate the main character which is unusual in YA mystery. I wanted a little more from the ending, not in the solution, but more of a wrap up of the aftermath than the few pages there were. Went and got a copy to add to my collection, that‘s how much I loved it!
I want to read....yet I don‘t want to read. This book is so good and so anxiety inducing that I have to know what happened right now!!! But I‘m also hesitant to keep going 🤣 I haven‘t read a book so good that I didn‘t want to keep going because then it would end faster in a while. Only 100 pages left.
Already failing #24b4monday as I started reading this morning while waiting for my appointment and forgot to set the timer 🙄 It was about half an hour though so I guess it counts? One injection down, one to go. This book completely has me hooked though and I am loving it!
1. 14 degrees.. almost double of earlier temps
2. Adrienne Young author of Sky in the Deep, I follow her on Instagram. She has such wonderful adventures, her spirit is inspiring. I know I would have a lot of fun.
3. Just one? I like all 3! Well out of the three I am BEST at word search

This YA “whodunnit” started off promising but lost me through the twists and turns and close calls.
The plot was slow at times but was intrigued enough to keep reading as I tried to figure out who the killer was. The story is well-written and seems realistic except for the fact that a teenage girl is the only one clever enough to figure out the evidence. But I do get it. Kate is the intrepid sleuth (ala Nancy Drew).
Recommended to YA mystery fans.
Hello #groupK friends. These are my picks for the #LMPBC.
I threw in a mystery I have tried to read a few times but had to put down for other obligations. I haven't read many, if any, mysteries but thought a whodunnit might be a fun option. Let me know what you think!
@thebluestocking @Whimsical.Curiosity @leslieseidel
@JanJan @Endowarrior21 @Kappadeemom Wow. This book blew me away! I went into it thinking I wasn't super interested in reading it, but it was so well done. The characters, the twisty story, all of it. I even ordered another book by the author for myself, that's how much I enjoyed this one! ( @Kappadeemom - it will be on it's way to you soon! I just have to wait for the insurance to give back a double payment they took, so I have the $!)
This book hooked me from the first sentence! “A ten point buck and a dead body make the same sound when they hit the forest floor.”
Five best friends go hunting in the woods and only four return. The other boy is dead. The story is told from 2 points of views. Kate, a girl who had deep feelings about the boy who was killed and the killer. We don‘t know who the killer is, or what happened. It kept me guessing the whole time and I was still wrong!
I‘m really liking this so far and can‘t wait to know what happens next, thanks @Endowarrior21 ! I probably wouldn‘t have chosen it, but that‘s what is so cool about this book club- you read something you wouldn‘t normally choose! #LMPBC round 3! @rjsthumbelina @Kappadeemom
I‘m so excited to read this @Endowarrior21 ! #LMPBC @rjsthumbelina your book will be sent out soon! Thanks!
So I haven‘t been doing much reading lately but it‘s because I‘ve been doing yard work! I‘ve been cleaning up our woodsy yard and planting ferns and some other plants.
I had to interlibrary loan this book and it‘s due Thursday so I had to read it ASAP. It‘s a good mystery about 5 senior boys who go out hunting and one gets shot by one of them. None are confessing to it. Who did it? Was it an accident? Or murder?
Really enjoyed this. Well-written mystery. I was a little annoyed by how many times the author used the phrase "framed her face with his hands." It was enough to be noticeable.
I've been wanting to read this since it came out in 2016, and I'm finally getting around to it. Five boys went hunting, four came back. The boys won't say who fired the shot that killed their friend. As an intern at the district attorney's office finds out, it may not have been an accident. This is actually by a local author, though I don't know much about her. Has anyone read her work before? #yareads #catsoflitsy
Look what the amazing @JoScho sent me today! I love the book and the Wolfman! Omg! You‘re so sweet. You did not have to do that but I so appreciate you ❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘
So yesterday I spent all day cleaning, and was hating every minute of it, so you can imagine 0 to 100 happiness I felt when I got this unexpected package in the mail from @ReadingRover Thanks so much, Megan!!! I‘m already in the middle of the tagged book and am enjoying it so much. Thanks!!!!!
This was pretty good. I don't think there's anything that makes this really stand out for me, but I liked the story and characters. A fun YA mystery.
One of 5 friends was killed while hunting. No one steps forward to say it was his gun, but it is believed to be an accident. Seeing the story unfold through the eyes of a girl interning at the prosecutor's office who also seemed to have a texting relationship with the dead boy. She is determined not to let the other boys get away with it, and, during the investigation, she is stunned to learn the dead boy wasn't who she thought he was. Good YA.
Misch-Evie-ous and I settle in for the night. The hubbub outside due to Mardi Gras has upset her all day long so she is worn out!
Woohoo just under 4 more hours! Taking a break to meet friends but really enjoying this audiobook so far! #24in48
Here‘s my Black Friday book haul - not including the 14 books I bought from the #BookOutlet sale. 😬 I‘m excited to dig into all of these! Last weekend I was sick with the flu and didn‘t have the energy to read, so I‘m very happy to be well enough to take advantage of this long weekend and enjoy some books!
Happy I got #bookmail today because my ‘other half‘ was being a **** so I‘m glad something showed up to make me feel better. ‘The Burning Girl‘ was a trade, and ‘This Is Our Story I got from Amazon BUT arrived in an OPEN PACKAGE; I was so disappointed to see that, although I‘m lucky it was in there! Anyone read these two? #BurningGirl #bookhaul
Pages is sleeping while I binge read this until the end! #LittensDressedInBlood #Dogsoflitsy
I always like to do something on 9/11, to get out of the house and be out among people, hopefully putting something positive out in the world. But first, breakfast and books at my favorite local coffee shop. #NeverForget #CurrentlyReading
I borrowed this months ago from my friend and now I'm finally reading it for #LittensDressedInBlood. Good so far!
1. I'm not ashamed to rock out to the Grease 2 or Xanadu soundtracks now and then.
2. Autumn!
3. Thrillers. 🔪
4. Heading to my friend's house to watch Pride and Prejudice, so pot luck!
5. Off I go!

Coffee (but I'll take tea too)
BOTH. All.
Like an attack? Zombies. But like romance? I'll have to go with Vampires.
Jack-O-Lantern
BOTH, but if I have to choose just one then Thrillers.
Voldemort
Marvel
Treat!!
The five privileged River Point Boys have been friends for many years. Things aren't what they seem to be with this group and one morning when they go hunting and only four boys return. Love this mystery and the format. Kate tells most of the story but we get to read transcripts of police interviews and also hear from the killer himself.
I don't even know what I just read but holy cow.
What a thrill ride. Honestly. And, as you can tell, this is another of the 4 authors I met the other day and boy am I glad i did.
This was amazing!! I had been guessing it was the wrong person THE ENTIRE TIME. I had no idea.
I shipped them (i won't say who...) and I was so intent on finding out the truth I forgot to eat. Again.
Not only was it unputdownable, but it deserves all 5⭐️
.
A student recommended this book, and I could not put it down! Great read!
A ten-point buck and a dead body make the same sound when they hit the forest floor. #firstsentence #currentlyreading
I really enjoyed that!! With strong, suspenseful language, sympathetic, fleshed-out characters, & a well-paced mystery, this book had it all. Props to the writer for actually speaking to adults that work in high schools to make sure the setting was fully-realized & realistic (BIG pet peeve of mine when it isn't). That, combined with everything else, made this a thrilling, romantic mystery I couldn't stop. ★★★★☆.
#currentlyreading | Aaaaaand we're back to contemporary/mystery! This one had a very promising start.
No one knows what happened that morning at River Point. Five boys went hunting. Four came back. The boys won‘t say who fired the shot that killed their friend; the evidence shows it could have been any one of them.
