#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024

After reading & loving the author‘s Part of Your Workday duology last year, I have been working my way through her The Friend Zone series & this is Book 2. It follows the story of Sloan an artist who is struggling to move on after a great loss & Jason, a musician headed for star status. They *meet cute* when his dog finds her & she doesn‘t want to give him back. Jimenez writes romance that gets me in all the feels.⬇️

DebinHawaii …This book fills a prompt on my #OUABC2024ReadingChallenge “A book with a playlist.” On to Book 3 when my library hold comes in. Read Book 1 first: 2mo

I am really hot and cold on romance books, but I loved this one! The tension, the backstories, the conflict, it was all so over-the-top, but I did not care whatsoever. I also LOVED listening along to each chapter's playlist song as I read that chapter! 🎶

Really loved this book, though she did basically steal his dog.. I really loved Sloan and Jason and their story!

Abby Jimenez is definitely a go to author for me now.

1. It depends on what I‘m retreating from. Normally I reach for fantasy and SciFi. But the last 2 years, I‘ve reached for romance. I‘ve needed light, happy, and most importantly, the HEA.

such a good thrift store find. this was such an easy light read. a beautiful book written about losing the one you love and the grieving process that follows. Sloan finds herself along the journey and learns how to grow in love again. a love story that all began because of a dog. Oh…and did i mention her new love interest is a rockstar! I think i‘m j to rock stars now 🤩 cheesy but cute

If you‘re willing to completely suspend your disbelief in a whirlwind love story with a meet-cute orchestrated by a dog, this book (along with others in the series) is a good candidate. I‘m not sorry. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-happy-ever-after-playlist-the-fr...

Didn‘t like as much as the first book in the series but still a good read. Loved the characters again the second time around and it was nice seeing Sloan have some closure after the end of the first book.

I liked this but it didn‘t make me want to immediately shove it into my friends‘ hands while insisting that they read it.

I liked Sloan & Jason. I liked that she had her art, & blogging, & an entire backstory of grief to address head-on before moving forward. I liked that he had his music & his outdoorsy family (which also becomes hers). I liked Sloan‘s friends, & that the “villain” of the piece is (eventually) given complexity. But...👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: I think the 1st half of the book is MUCH stronger than the 2nd. Call me naive but Jason‘s battle with his record company seemed EXTREMELY dramatic & contrived (see spoiler-y comment), & everything tied up a bit too neatly & traditionally for me. Also, I know pretty people deserve love, too (😅) but everyone is very conventionally attractive & the telling sometimes harped on it too much (my ass definitely doesn‘t look as good in a red thong). (edited) 3y
monalyisha Were we really expected to believe that Jason‘s record company would have broken Sloan‘s hand?! Are they The Mob??? (edited) 3y

The second book in this series, which is about Sloan. I won't say anymore as it will spoil the first book. Anyway I really enjoyed it. It was funny and a bit steamy. I liked all the characters and easy to read. #books

Gotta get my Litsy‘ing in today! Screen-Free Week starts tomorrow. 😱

https://www.screenfree.org/sfw-2021-announce/

It‘s a yearly event put on by Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood but my library‘s encouraging our whole community to “come as you are” (cue the Nirvana) and “celebrate however you can.”

Scochrane26 But what if the book you want to read is an ebook? I will be cross stitching a lot this week, which will cut down on phone time but will increase TV time. (edited) 3y
monalyisha @Scochrane26 You can set whatever intentions you‘d like. My goal is to abandon social media for the week. Mindlessly scrolling takes up too much of my time, makes me distracted, & takes time away from the people who are actually in front of me. But I‘m still allowing myself to check-in with my group chat twice a day. 😉 My Book Club/college friends are chatty & I don‘t want to miss too much. I don‘t consider that one of my unhealthy habits. (edited) 3y
monalyisha @Scochrane26 Basically it‘s about being more mindful & intentional about my usage. For me, especially this past year, it‘s become a little ridiculous. 3y
See All 6 Comments
Scochrane26 @monalyisha Yes, all the time alone has prob increased my scrolling, too. The cross stitching is a good way to catch up on shows I‘ve been wanting to watch while still doing a mindful activity. 3y
jimfields3 This is a great idea, @monalyisha and I appreciate you sharing it as well as your ideas on how to live it. Completely screen-free seems near impossible, but I can be intentional, too. Thank you! 3y

Okay, I love Tucker, the dog! I believe most of you all know I‘m obsessed with dogs and obsessed with my dog Riot. Anyway, I love how Tucker gets Sloan and Jason together. I loved the romance in this book. It did drive me a bit nuts with them being together or not being together. Overall, this was a cute, fun read and I cannot wait to read the next book.

I‘m glad I gave this author another chance after not really liking The Friend Zone; I thought this one was much better! Her romance books also tackle serious issues, which I like. This book also makes me want to visit Minnesota! I was hooked to the audiobook for most of last night while finishing up some chores.

Cinfhen Someone else recently reviewed this book and liked it...was it @Marni ??? 3y
Marni @Cinfhen that was me! It was definitely better than the Friend Zone, and I appreciated how the author walked through grief with the main character 3y
Cinfhen Interesting that both you and @Marni enjoyed this one but didn‘t care for 3y
alisiakae @Cinfhen I learned after I read The Friend Zone that she actually wrote this book first. FZ was written more as a prequel, but then was published first. I can also tell that she spent more time on this book, I think it took her a few years to write. 3y

Mehso-so

Well, I guess I was closer to the end of this than I thought. Just finished it. This was definitely more of a romantic drama than a comedy. I think it took too long to work through the drama, but I loved the ending. Recommended if you don‘t mind a good cry with your romance! I‘m giving it a so-so because I was expecting something lighter and fluffier, and it was heavy in places.

A beautiful follow up to “The Friend Zone”. Full of humor and heartbreak. Laugh out loud funny moments and “sobbing into my pillow because it‘s two in the morning and I can‘t put it down” moments. Compelling characters, once again tackling the tough topics - skillfully navigating the ebbs and flows of grief and rebuilding. Five stars. Would recommend.

MeganMarieWrites Just to be clear, it was moments in the book that made me sob...and insomnia that keeps me up till two in the morning 😂😬 3y

So I want to say that I loved the song prompts at the beginning of each chapter. Loved! It is what kept me going when I started reading this one. But I didn‘t really like the couple. And I felt like the book had no story. It was just the two leads bantering all of the time. They also seemed to have a lot of time on their hands. I got 61% in and the unnecessary drama started and I just couldn‘t take it anymore. This just isn‘t my kind of romance.

Sigh. I loved this book just as much as the Friend Zone, and especially enjoyed getting updates on Kristin and Josh. The storyline could have been an overdone trope "girl falls for famous musician" but it was so much more than that. Her journey through grief and acceptance, his ambition to succeed while helping others, the story of them coming together thanks to Tucker, the dog, and just, sigh, all of it.
