It‘s time again, unbelievably, to think about next year‘s #AuthorAMonth! Please nominate authors you would like to see highlighted in the comments. I will organize them into genre categories again, I felt like that worked well for this year, so if you are inclined you can include the genre you think the author fits best (you don‘t have to, I will look them up if necessary)

Happy October #AuthorAMonth readers! My post is late this month as I had a visit from my sister and my Mom just moved in with me. I hope you‘ve already picked up your October author, Octavia Butler. Please take care of yourself while reading, as she goes dark and her fiction feels timely as she addresses inequality and other fights we are currently in politically.

What are you hoping to read?

(Feel free to welcome @Yenya1954 to WNC!)

See All 17 Comments
vlwelser I have Kindred queued up. Probably the only person that hasn't read it. 1mo
Melismatic I have Wild Seed set. I adore Octavia so much but Kindred & the Parable duology would be tough rereads right now. Would absolutely recommend either if you‘ve never read them though! 1mo
TheBookHippie Having read her books -I‘m sitting this out. All are very good. However use caution… Parable of the Sower especially. 1mo
TheBookHippie How lovely to have visits and I hope it goes well with your mom getting settled. 1mo
Bookwormjillk I hope your mom enjoys WNC. I‘m going to read Parable of the Talents for the first time. While Sower was tough it was also a tiny bit hopeful. 1mo

Sace I have Parable of the Sower and Wild Seed in mind. Reading the comments I might opt for Wild Seed. 1mo

For July #AuthorAMonth. I have found Serial Reader to be a great way to get through classics. It‘s a free ap, and there are a lot of Woolf books on there, from 7-25 “issues”. Each “issue” is about a 10 minute read, making it easy to read for 2 short sessions a day and complete a tough classic in a month! I think I‘ll probably read her this way.

Hello #AuthorAMonth readers! We‘re down to about one week left with June‘s author John Scalzi. I hope he‘s been making you laugh.

July brings us to a classic with Virginia Woolf. I haven‘t read anything by her before and I‘m looking forward to it! Any recommendations for where to start?

Susanita I tried her once before but didn‘t get very far. This time I‘m going with 5mo
Bookwormjillk Zoinks! I need to get going on June! 5mo
Caroline2 Oh good idea @Susanita I might copy you. 👍 5mo
dariazeoli I had OldMan‘sWar in my TBR for years and I‘m thrilled to have finally checked it off! I‘m a little intimidated to try Woolf again. 5mo
Soubhiville @Bookwormjillk He‘s usually a fast and fun read, so a week hopefully will be enough time for you to read something if you want to. 😁 5mo
Sace I had planned to skip the July author but then I discovered I had a copy of Mrs Dalloway (the perils of having too many books…you sometimes forfeit what you have). I‘m a little intimidated by her though. I‘ve never read her. 5mo
AmyG Whelp, I started my book but I won‘t finish it this month. Reading has been tough these days….plus lots going on as summers are always busy around here. I will finish it, just not in June. 5mo
Deblovestoread I‘ve been lousy this year but did listen to his latest this month. It was ok but no 5mo
willaful @Deblovestoread Agreed! I tried to read Fuzzy Nation but really didn't see the need for another version of Little Fuzzy. 5mo
CatLass007 I read a short story, The President‘s Brain is Missing, and the three novellas that make up The Dispatcher series. I‘ve got a couple of others that I probably won‘t get to before the end of the month but maybe before the end of the year. For Virginia Woolf, I have three that I got free on Audible, but probably will only get to two of them, Orlando, and Mrs. Dalloway. 5mo
julieclair I have been looking forward to reading Starter Villain all month, and still haven‘t gotten to it. I think it may spill over into July. 😉😎 5mo

Less than a week left in March with Leigh Bardugo #AuthorAMonth readers! I really enjoyed my reads with Bardugo, and read more than I‘d planned to.

Now might be a good time for you to put in holds or orders for our April author, Kate Quinn.

Happy Reading 📚

AmyG I already started my April read! 8mo
TheSpineView Currently working on The Familiar. 25% in and still can't get into it. I loved the author's other books. Sigh... 😏 8mo
CatLass007 I‘ve got my copy of Kate Quinn‘s The Briar Club, which also is the April selection for #LiteraryCrew. I‘ve got three Leigh Bardugo books on this month‘s TBR, which I hope to start tomorrow. 8mo
AmyG @CatLass007 That‘s the one I am reading…Briar Club. It‘s good. 8mo
tpixie @Soubhiville I plan to read The Briar Club and The Huntress. I may re- read The Alice Network ( which I loved) , since a character in that is makes a cameo in The Huntress. 8mo
CatLass007 @AmyG Thanks for the encouragement! @tpixie The Huntress is currently free on Audible! 8mo
tpixie @CatLass007 oh wow! Thanks!! 8mo

Sace I‘m hoping to finish Ninth House by Monday (having trouble getting into it) and the Literary Crew selection for April is by this month‘s author. 8mo
vonnie862 I was only able to get my hands on Ninth House, and unfortunately, I DNFed it. 8mo
Bklover I loved The Diamond Eye! 8mo
Yenya1954 The Huntress was amazing. Diamond Eye, The Rose Code and The Alice Network were also great books. 7mo
Andrew65 @Yenya1954 Agree, all excellent books. I hope to get to The Briar Club next month. 7mo
julieclair Like several others, I‘ll be reading The Briar Club with #LiteraryCrew. And I never did get to read any Leigh Bardugo this month, so I‘m hoping to read at least one in April. 7mo
CatLass007 I enjoyed several of Leigh Bardugo‘s books this month. @Soubhiville will you please let the group know that there are at least six Kate Quinn books available for free on Audible. I‘m having a hard time narrowing things down to just a couple. (edited) 7mo

Here we are in March #AuthorAMonth readers! This month we will be reading Leigh Bardugo. I‘ve started Shadow and Bone. What are you planning to read?

Now may be a good time to update your Google form tracking your #AAM reads. You may either track your books monthly on the form or once at the end of the year, it makes no difference to me. If you want to start the form now, here is the link to do so:

https://forms.gle/1F1BmkcTBh7uPXNp9

⬇️

Soubhiville Will someone please let me know that the link works and whether you get an email offering to edit after you start your form? Thanks! (And obviously if I made any mistakes 🤞) ⬇️ 8mo
Soubhiville As always, just let me know if you‘d like to join or leave my tag list for the year. Happy Reading! 8mo

It‘s the last day of February #AuthorAMonth readers. I hope your time with Roxane Gay has been meaningful. I know she‘s not a gentle easy read.

Tomorrow we‘ll be picking up our March author Leigh Bardugo. Dropping into some fantasy!

I‘ll proofread the 2025 google form and attach it to tomorrow‘s post, for those ready to start tracking your books.

Have a great day, Happy Reading.

Another year of #AuthorAMonth has almost ended. I can‘t believe it. 2025 will be our 7th year of reading authors nominated by and voted on by the Litsy community, celebrating and discovering new authors together!

Please be sure to go edit your AAM google form. I need everyone to do this, because I just looked at the spreadsheet and realized I forgot to ask for your Litsy names! 🤦

https://forms.gle/r6EydHX3GmrfYenA8. ⬇️

Soubhiville Also if you haven‘t yet, be sure to let me know below with a comment that you would like to be tagged on next year‘s AAM posts. (If you have already and you tell me again you‘ll get added to the list a second time.)

I will be drawing and announcing winners Saturday January 4th, and I‘ll post one more reminder on the 2nd.

It‘s December, our final 2024 #AuthorAMonth! Time to pull out our Terry Pratchett books. What are you planning to read?

#AuthorAMonth is a no-pressure, no-commitment Litsy challenge. The goal is to celebrate the works of a particular author each month. Authors were chosen through polls by Litsy participants. Read as many as you like, skip months when needed, it's entirely up to you! ⬇️

Soubhiville There will be some prizes sent at the end of the year:

-There will be ONE prize book box for "MOST READ." In order to qualify, books must be FINISHED in the appropriate month. (Bails will not be counted.) It is up to you to keep track by editing your Google form. (this prize can only be won once, there will be a different winner every year.) ⬇️
11mo
Soubhiville -There will be one prize randomly chosen from the "EVERY MONTH CLUB". To qualify for this prize you must read one or more book every month for the qualifying author. For this category BAILS COUNT. The winners will be chosen randomly from the participants that qualify for the club.

-There will also be one or more random prizes sent to any randomly drawn participant who has FINISHED at least one qualifying book during the year. ⬇️
11mo
Soubhiville Once you start your Google form you will get an email confirmation. Hold on to that email, it gives you access to edit the form. You should also be able to access it through your Google Drive. I can not access it for you though, and if you can‘t get to the form you started my link will make you start a new form. It is up to you if you track monthly with the form or just fill it out at the end of the year. ⬇️ 11mo

Soubhiville I won‘t be looking at it until January of 2025.

Only Listy members who are still active in the Listy community at the time of drawings will qualify.

Here is the link to the Google form:

As always, let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the tag list. 🙂📚. Happy Reading!
11mo
Soubhiville @AllDebooks that sounds fun! 11mo
vonnie862 I think I'm going to start with the first book in the Discworld series. 11mo
dariazeoli I‘ve got this one on my Kindle 11mo
Andrew65 I looking forward to reading a Terry Pratchett book this month, so far only read Good Omens that he co-authored. 11mo
Andrew65 @AllDebooks That seems an appropriate book for December, might check this one out. 11mo
AmyG Skipping as Pratchett is not for me. Enjoy everyone! 11mo
AllDebooks @Andrew65 🙂 I recommend his short stories. This was very good 11mo
bookwyrm7 Please add me to the tag list. I can't join this month but will do so next year. Are the prizes also for those in Europe, or only in a certain country? 11mo
JacqMac I bought a beautiful hardcover of this one and I can‘t wait to start. 11mo
Jess I just started A Stroke of a Pen on audio and it is so fun. The first story was read by David Tennent and the second by Claire Foy. Great start! 11mo
Larkken Yay! Love sir terry. I may start a discworld reread… we‘ll see 11mo
Soubhiville @bookwyrm7 you are added! I will ship to Europe for the big prize, for the smaller ones I‘m more likely to get a gift card to the bookstore of your choice, as overseas shipping from the states is really expensive. 11mo
Soubhiville @vonnie862 if you don‘t love the first Discworld book, don‘t let it put you off the rest. Most of his fans feel he didn‘t get his stride until a few books in and the first two aren‘t nearly as good. 11mo
Soubhiville @Jess I didn‘t know the audio had multiple narrators! I loved reading this one though, some great stories. 11mo
willaful Can you tag me for next year please? And I'll be reading The Truth this month, for #OokBookClub. 11mo
Soubhiville @willaful you‘re added 11mo
Andrew65 @AllDebooks Thanks, will see if I can get hold of this. 11mo
bookwyrm7 @Soubhiville Thanks! That's perfectly fine 👌 11mo
vonnie862 @Soubhiville I've been debating of where to start 11mo

We‘re more than halfway through November #AuthorAMonth readers! I hope you‘re enjoying your time with Sarah Addison Allen. I‘m almost finished with my book for the month, Other Birds, and I really like it.

December brings us one of my very favorite authors, Terry Pratchett. I can‘t wait for you to experience him if it‘s your first time! If you need recommendations I‘ll make a couple in the comments. 🙂💛📚

See All 19 Comments
AllDebooks I‘ve skipped this month, but I am so excited to read Terry Pratchett next month 😊 12mo
Soubhiville Terry Pratchett recommendations: If you are new to TP, he‘s best known for his Discworld series. I don‘t recommend starting with the first book however, as he didn‘t really develop his style and get his stride until a few books in. I think a great place to start is with the first Night Watch book- 12mo
Soubhiville Guards! Guards! Can be read as a stand alone, or if you love the characters you can follow them into more adventures. Another great start would be the first Witches book, also can stand alone but can follow characters to additional books- 12mo
Soubhiville If you love short stories I thoroughly enjoyed 12mo
Soubhiville If you‘re a YA lover the first Tiffany Aching book is fun. It‘s also Discworld, also can stand alone but does start a series- 12mo
TheSpineView I started The Sugar Queen yesterday. I had to wait on a library hold. Liking it so far. 12mo
AmyG I am going to skip Terry Pratchett…sadly, not for me. But I enjoyed this month‘s book 12mo
Bookwormjillk Thanks for the recommendations! A new author for me. 12mo
PurpleyPumpkin I just finished this one today! Throughly enjoyed it. 😁 12mo
Karisimo @Soubhiville thanks for the suggestion! 12mo
Yenya1954 I‘ve just borrowed The Long Earth. 12mo
Soubhiville @Yenya1954 I‘ll be interested in your opinion on that one. I liked it but it‘s very very different from his other stuff, as he‘s partnered with a scifi writer for it. Grammy M liked this series: 12mo
Soubhiville @vonnie862 see above for a few recommendations of good first-tastes of Discworld. 🙂 11mo

Here is the big announcement #AuthorAMonth readers! Here are our 2025 authors!

The most votes went to Leigh Bardugo this year, then Kate Quinn, then Octavia Butler so I decided to include her as a repeat author.

What do you think? Who are you excited for? Any suggestions for different ways to run the voting next year?

Thank you all for your nominations and your votes. I‘m pleased with the 2025 list, should be some great reading.

BookwormAHN Nice 😺 12mo
CatLass007 This is great! There‘s a wonderful mix of familiar authors and new authors. I look forward to them all!! 12mo
CatLass007 @dabbe @Soubhiville I feel the same about Forever, although I learned never to lend books to anyone at an early age. 12mo
DHill Great list! So excited for 2025. Thank you @Soubhiville ! 12mo
dabbe @CatLass007 True that! 😂 12mo

inthegreensandblues @Soubhiville this is an interesting list. So you just pick any of their books? 12mo
Soubhiville @inthegreensandblues yes you choose to read any book from the author. It‘s a challenge that‘s been running for 6 years. There are a few prizes I send at the end of the year. Would you like to be added to the tag list? 12mo

I just voted and I‘m so excited. This is definitely a favorite yearly challenge. I always vote for authors on my tbr list but even if they don‘t get picked for the year I have always enjoyed finding new authors I love. So even if you don‘t vote or read an #authoramonth, I recommend trying it out for a month or two and learn about new to you authors! I‘m reading more books by authors read earlier this year like Klune and SA Cosby. @Soubhiville

It‘s time! Time for nominations for authors you‘d like to see us read for next year‘s #AuthorAMonth. Please comment with your suggestions. I‘ll give this post a week, the release the poll.

2025 will be our seventh year with this challenge! Wow.

Along with your nominations, please say if you would prefer that we have all new authors or if you think we could repeat some from previous years if they get enough votes. Suggestions appreciated. 🙂📚💛

See All 36 Comments
TheBookHippie I can‘t imagine repeats would matter of some authors who have many many books. 12mo
TheBookHippie Shakespeare 👀♥️ I miss reading it regularly .. 12mo
TheBookHippie Allison Winn Scotch she has been such a voice for women I‘d love to honor her by reading her books, which are totally not my genre but look fun. 12mo
TheAromaofBooks I think some repeats would be good, especially now that it's been long enough that some of us weren't participating or even on Litsy at the beginning of the challenge haha maybe if it's been at least two or three years since they were on the list? Like @TheBookHippie said some authors have an extensive catalogue!! 12mo
AllDebooks I don't mind repeats 🙂 12mo
TheAromaofBooks I would suggest P.G. Wodehouse and Georgette Heyer for something more lighthearted. Mary Higgins Clark would be fun. 12mo
Susanita I guess this is a minority opinion, but there are so many authors out there, I‘d like all new authors. Either way, this year I‘ll just vote in the poll. 12mo
TheBookHippie Nora Ephron 12mo
Julsmarshall I‘m fine with repeats or all new. A few suggestions: Toni Morrison, Abby Jimenez, Kate Clayborn, Steven Rowley. 12mo
Bookwormjillk Ohhh I love researching and voting for these challenges I‘m good with repeating but maybe exclude those from the last 2-3 years. (edited) 12mo
Bookwormjillk My suggestions: jumping on Christine‘s Shakespeare idea and Vanessa Diffenbaugh, Kate Quinn, Silas House, Peter Heller, Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, Kelly Corrigan, Adriana Trigiani, Rita Williams-Garcia, Ron Rash, David McCullough 12mo
Megabooks Dana Spiotta, Patricia Engel, Rebecca Solnit, Elizabeth McCracken, Jeff Guinn, Elizabeth Strout, Edith Wharton, Ron Rash, Meg Wolitzer, Kent Haruf, Edwidge Danticat, Bob Woodward, Curtis Sittenfield, Melissa Febos, Akwaeke Emezi

I would not mind one or two repeats, but I think we should stick with mainly new authors. Like @susanita said, there are so many out there!
12mo
dabbe Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Gabriel Marquez, George Eliot, EM Forster, Thomas Hardy, Raymond Chandler, John le Carre, Sidney Sheldon, Nora Roberts, Robert Ludlum, Rex Stout, John Irving, Terry Pratchett, Willa Cather, H.G. Wells, Michael Crichton, Andy Weir, Herman Hesse, Dean Koontz, Dashiell Hammett, Joyce Carol Oates

Some old, some new(er) (nothing borrowed or blue, though!) 😂
12mo
TheSpineView Leigh Bardugo, Christina Lauren, Mariana Zapata, Helena Hunting, Carian Cole, Kristen Callihan, John Scalzi, TY 12mo
Amiable Would love to see some nonfiction authors in the mix for those of us who enjoy that genre. I‘ll have to ponder this and come up with a few suggestions. 12mo
TheSpineView Taylor Jenkins Reid, Kylie Scott, Meghan Quinn, Tracey Garvis Graves, Penelope Ward, Kaylee Ryan, Tessa Bailey, Molly Harper, Louise Bay, Ken Follett, James Michener, Jeffery Archer, Robin Hobb 12mo
Scochrane26 Wendell Berry (he has NF, fiction, poetry), Silas House 12mo
Deblovestoread Nickolas Butler, Liane Moriaty, Colm Tòibìn, Laird Hunt, Jeanette Winterson. I don‘t think any of these are repeat but I might be misremembering. Love getting introduced to new to me authors. 12mo
peaKnit How fun! Nikolas Butler, Sarah Addison Allen and Taylor Jenkins Reid.:) (and I see SAA is your author this month, I didn‘t even know oops!😬 but she‘s a favorite…serendipitous, I‘d like to join in the fun!) (edited) 12mo
Caroline2 I don‘t mind any repeats as I have missed some months. Elizabeth Strout, Edith Wharton, Toni Morrison, PG Wodehouse, Georgette Heyer would be great for me. 👍 12mo
vonnie862 Daphne Du Maurier, Neal Shusterman, Lisa See, Neil Gaiman, Alan Brennert, Grady Hendrix, Sandra Cisneros, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Gabriel Garcia Marquez 12mo
DHill Kurt Vonnegut, Dennis Lehane, Rachel Cusk, Han Kang 12mo
Melismatic Personally I agree with new authors but so long as there are no repeats from the last few years and the author has written a lot 🤷🏻‍♀️ — my favorite part of this challenge is discovering authors I‘d never think to try and adoring them. 12mo
Larkken Agree that prev authors would be great so long as they're not from ~ the last two years! I'm interested in delving into the back lists for Ben MacIntyre, Shakespeare, tananarive due, Ann Patchett, Mary Stewart, Louise erdrich, Dorothy sayers, Patrick Radden Keefe, martha wells, pico ayer, and Gail carriger. 12mo
Yenya1954 I prefer to have new authors because they challenge me to broaden my interest in new authors and genres. This is my first year and I‘m not sure who you‘ve read before. I like Dana Stabenow, Jodi Picoult, Chris Bohjalian, CJ Box, William Kent Krueger, Ann Cleeves, Lisa Unger. Really I don‘t mind reading any authors who are chosen. 12mo
DogMomIrene I‘ve never participated in this challenge. Even though repeats wouldn‘t be an issue for me, I like the idea of discovering authors new to me. 12mo
Sace I‘d really like to participate next year. I‘m open to any author. 12mo
Skygoddess1 I‘d be open to backlist (more than 3 years ago) authors. Here‘s a few suggestions: T. Kingfisher, Jay Kristoff, Marie Benedict, Peter Swanson, Percival Everett, Tananarive Due 12mo
AmyG I am open to anyone. But I am only going to read an author if I own a book. Thanks for doing this! 12mo
dariazeoli I‘m open for repeats! I also really appreciate the new authors this challenge has introduced me to each year. I‘d like to suggest Octavia Butler, Sally Rooney, Roxane Gay, and Joan Didion. 12mo

Soubhiville @AllDebooks I‘m doing well. I get back to a mostly normal work schedule tomorrow, which will be a relief. Processing is a daily thing, but mostly I‘m good. Thanks my friend! 12mo
TheSpineView I need to see what is available at the library. 12mo
AllDebooks @Soubhiville that's good to hear. Routine always helps. I can't imagine how stressful life has been. Thinking of you from across the pond! x 12mo
PurpleyPumpkin Since it‘s been on my audiobook TBR for ages, I‘m aiming to read 12mo
CatLass007 It‘s free on Audible and I‘ve had it in my library for a long time. 12mo
CatLass007 I live in East Tennessee. Johnson City was lucky. The same cannot be said for Elizabethton and Erwin. They found the body of the last missing Impact Plastics employee. FEMA is opening four more Disaster Recovery Centers. I think we‘re going to be in this for the long haul… I‘m glad things are starting to normalize for you, @Soubhiville 🩷 (edited) 12mo
vonnie862 I love her! 12mo
Bookwormjillk @CatLass007 We used to stay in Erwin to hike. It was shocking to see the pictures. 12mo
CatLass007 @Bookwormjillk Parts of Erwin were really nice. I hate that it‘s under water and I still find it shocking to have seen on the news that 50 people had to be airlifted off the roof of the hospital. And there was a story that I think took place in the Asheville area (but don‘t quote me on that) about a family who watched their house float down the river with their cat trapped on top. About a week later 🐈 and family were reunited. It just (cont)⬇️ 12mo
CatLass007 occurred to me that God or the Universe or whatever doesn‘t send things like this as a punishment for some transgression, as some on the religious right will be sure to say. Loudly. Maybe he allows things like this to happen to show us how to work together for the common good instead of fighting for the right to be right. 12mo
CatLass007 @Bookwormjillk Where do you hike now? Or do you even still hike? 12mo
Bookwormjillk @CatLass007 leave it to a cat to float away and come back. Hiking is harder now that the kids are teens with busy schedules so we mostly hike around home in Virginia. But we still usually get to Asheville or the Smokies once a year at least. 12mo
CatLass007 @bookwormjillk It‘s great that your family still hikes together. It sounds wonderful wherever you hike. 12mo

It‘s October #AuthorAMonth readers, time to dive into some books by Tana French.

I‘m not going to post all the rules today, my connection is spotty. But at least wanted to get this up. I‘m going to try tagging but honestly don‘t know if it will work, my apologies if it doesn‘t.

Still getting by in Asheville, but I am one of the lucky ones. Again if you are able to donate to relief efforts it‘s desperately needed.

gossamerchild Oh, I\'m so glad to hear you\'re okay. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe!
13mo
Yenya1954 I started In the Woods last night. Without this author a month group, I‘m not sure how long it would be before I found Tana French. (I‘m very happy to hear your voice each time you call. Moms always want to fix things but this disaster is beyond my abilities! I love you.)❤️ 13mo
Hooked_on_books I hope you‘re hanging in there. I‘m thinking about you. 13mo

Welcome to September #AuthorAMonth readers! Time to pull out our TJ Klune books.

(this prize can only be won once, there will be a different winner every year.) ⬇️
1y
Soubhiville -There will be one prize randomly chosen from the "EVERY MONTH CLUB". To qualify for this prize you must read one or more book every month for the qualifying author. For this category BAILS COUNT. The winners will be chosen randomly from the participants that qualify for the club.

-There will also be one or more random prizes sent to any randomly drawn participant who has FINISHED at least one qualifying book during the year. ⬇️
1y
Soubhiville Once you start your Google form you will get an email confirmation. Hold on to that email, it gives you access to edit the form. You should also be able to access it through your Google Drive. I can not access it for you though, and if you can‘t get to the form you started my link will make you start a new form. It is up to you if you track monthly with the form or just fill it out at the end of the year. ⬇️ 1y
