May is almost over #AuthorAMonth readers. It seems most folks have really liked their Percival Everett books 🙂.

In a few days we‘ll be picking up John Scalzi. I‘m going to have to go to the library to see what they have, since annoyingly Amazon has rights to most of his recent books and audiobooks. That really bugs me. But still, I‘m looking forward to it because he always makes me laugh.

It‘s December, our final 2024 #AuthorAMonth! Time to pull out our Terry Pratchett books. What are you planning to read?

#AuthorAMonth is a no-pressure, no-commitment Litsy challenge. The goal is to celebrate the works of a particular author each month. Authors were chosen through polls by Litsy participants. Read as many as you like, skip months when needed, it's entirely up to you! ⬇️

Soubhiville There will be some prizes sent at the end of the year:

-There will be ONE prize book box for "MOST READ." In order to qualify, books must be FINISHED in the appropriate month. (Bails will not be counted.) It is up to you to keep track by editing your Google form. (this prize can only be won once, there will be a different winner every year.) ⬇️ 6mo

Soubhiville -There will be one prize randomly chosen from the "EVERY MONTH CLUB". To qualify for this prize you must read one or more book every month for the qualifying author. For this category BAILS COUNT. The winners will be chosen randomly from the participants that qualify for the club.

-There will also be one or more random prizes sent to any randomly drawn participant who has FINISHED at least one qualifying book during the year. ⬇️ 6mo

Soubhiville Once you start your Google form you will get an email confirmation. Hold on to that email, it gives you access to edit the form. You should also be able to access it through your Google Drive. I can not access it for you though, and if you can‘t get to the form you started my link will make you start a new form. It is up to you if you track monthly with the form or just fill it out at the end of the year. ⬇️ 6mo

Soubhiville Terry Pratchett recommendations: If you are new to TP, he‘s best known for his Discworld series. I don‘t recommend starting with the first book however, as he didn‘t really develop his style and get his stride until a few books in. I think a great place to start is with the first Night Watch book-

I always vote for authors on my tbr list but even if they don‘t get picked for the year I have always enjoyed finding new authors I love. CatLass007 I live in East Tennessee. Johnson City was lucky. The same cannot be said for Elizabethton and Erwin. They found the body of the last missing Impact Plastics employee. I hate that it‘s under water and I still find it shocking to have seen on the news that 50 people had to be airlifted off the roof of the hospital. And there was a story that I think took place in the Asheville area (but don‘t quote me on that) about a family who watched their house float down the river with their cat trapped on top. About a week later 🐈 and family were reunited. It just (cont)⬇️ 7mo

CatLass007 occurred to me that God or the Universe or whatever doesn‘t send things like this as a punishment for some transgression, as some on the religious right will be sure to say. Loudly. Maybe he allows things like this to happen to show us how to work together for the common good instead of fighting for the right to be right. 7mo

Bookwormjillk @CatLass007 leave it to a cat to float away and come back. Hiking is harder now that the kids are teens with busy schedules so we mostly hike around home in Virginia. But we still usually get to Asheville or the Smokies once a year at least. 7mo

CatLass007 I‘ve listened to My Darkest Prayer and Razorblade Tears. Both were excellent. I‘d like to get to Brokedown Prophets before the end of the month. For July, I have The Complete Poppy War Trilogy in one volume. It‘s 66 hours and 29 minutes long. I don‘t know if I‘ll make it through the entire trilogy this month but it‘s not out of the question. 11mo

Jess Cosby was a win. I had read one and finished two others this month. I immediately went out and bought My Darkest Prayer for later reading. Cosby is now an auto buy. Thanks for whoever nominated him! Not sure about July. May just read

Soubhiville #AuthorAMonth is a no-pressure challenge in which we read books by a voted on author each month. Read as many or as few as you like. At the end of the year there is a prize box for “Most Read.”

There will also be randomly drawn prizes- everyone who has read at least one Author a Month book and is still active on Litsy is entered into those random drawings. ⬇️ 1y

Soubhiville Somehow I left out the “Every Month Club” in the notes above. There‘s a randomly drawn prize from the group of readers who either complete or attempt and bail on at least one book by each author.📚🙂 1y

CatLass007 Since I won‘t be doing the challenge portion, I don‘t think it‘s vital that I fill out the Google form. I already have my Lauren Groff book, The Vaster Wilds! 1y

Gissy Thank you! I completed the form with books read in January 2024🤗I‘m planning to read, but not 100% sure, more books by this author but later in the year, as part of another reading goal. 1y

Soubhiville @CatLass007 you may want to do the Google form if you‘d like to be eligible for the prize drawing. Everyone who reads at least one book is automatically entered, but I go by the form to draw winners. 🙂 1y

We have a little more than a week left in January #AuthorAMonth readers. 🙂 I hope you‘re enjoying reading Jane Austen‘s books.

Quick reminder that February will be Lauren Groff‘s month of recognition. Do you need to put a hold on a book from your library or place an order with your local indie bookseller?

Soubhiville @CatLass007 if you like short stories, Florida is my favorite by her. If you prefer novels I thought The Vaster Wilds was great. 1y

AmandaBlaze I couldn't get into Northanger Abbey. I'll probably try again some day. I'm going to read Vaster Wilds for February. I loved Arcadia. 1y

CatLass007 @AmyG @Soubhiville Thank you both. I think I prefer novels over short stories. It‘s hard to be invested in the characters in the short form. But if I like the novel I choose, I‘m more likely to choose books by the same author. 1y

Bluebird I‘m reading an annotated version of Pride and Prejudice, nearly done. I am a bit nervous about Groff. I bailed on the Vaster Wilds at about 15%-despite it being read by one of my favorite narrators. I have Monsters of Templeton and Edible Birds on hold at the library-will see what comes up. 1y
