#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 November 2024 #AuthorAMonth At first I wasn‘t sure I liked this. I recognized the narrator as the same woman who narrates the Eve Dallas series, a buddy read from which I withdrew after the fourth book in the series. I had to work to get the Eve Dallas narration out of my head so I could enjoy the Garden Spells narration. I read a description of this book as “magical realism,” a genre I‘ve read that many (cont)⬇️
I‘m not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn‘t it. Still, I liked it and was happy to read it at last for #authoramonth after having it on my TBR for a while. Interesting family story with a bit of magical realism.

Well, gosh. Sometimes a novel can sneak right into your heart when you‘re in an emotional place, almost like the author themselves knew you needed it.
That was this book for me, a warm hug. A reminder to care about the people around you. What a gift. Another shining example of finding a new favorite author through #AuthorAMonth. 💖

I loved that there was a character that had books just appear when she needed them, and the winter setting let me pretend it‘s not currently 80 degrees in November.
A skeleton, a suitcase, & a fedora are discovered under a peach tree in front of the Blue Ridge Madame, just shortly before the gala celebrating the renovation of the grand 76-yo house. The skeleton‘s ghost is unhappy and the cops are, too, trying to find who killed the man with a bashed in head. This brings the two main characters diving into their grandmothers‘ pasts and that of the house. This book is about how to make friends, and what they ⬇️
When Emily is orphaned as a teenager, she goes to live with her only surviving family member: a grandfather she‘s never met who lives in a town her mom was born but that Emily has never visited. Grandpa is a quiet giant, the town wary of Emily, and Grandpa isn‘t explaining why. Emily‘s mother is a consummate do-gooder, so why do the townspeople blame Emily for her mother‘s sins when Emily can‘t imagine her mother ever hurting anyone? And she‘s ⬇️
