This one was an interesting read. I thought the world was cool, a traveling circus city that moves around, and the magic was intriguing as well, a girl with no eyes that creates illusions, real actual illusions that have become her family, and still sees, and all sorts of other inherent jynx magic.
The story was more whodunnit and I figured it out pretty quickly but still enjoyable enough. Not particularly memorable, but a fun read.
3.5 ⭐️
Daughter of the Burning City had a promising storyline, but failed to deliver for me personally. I think the characters and the plot were interesting, but I was left at the end wishing there had been more world building and a better explanation of the magic system. #LMPBC #Round9
I put this one in the mail for you today @sweetpealsd 🎪

Daughter of the burning city is so magical and creative. The writing was astounding and vivid. I loved every minute of this book. I went into it not knowing much about the book other than it revolved around a show, similar to a circus or carnival. I was so amazed by everything in the novel and completely blown away by how good it was.
Overall the creativity and imagery were just mind-blowing.
My goal is to finish 9 books and read for at least 24 hours for #EasterExtravaganza
Day 1: I'm half way through the tagged book and I've read for 2 hours.
Hello my friendly neighborhood Bookish Lepidopterans!!! 🦋 (Wow, that was a long greeting.)
Sooo, I crashed yesterday before I could post my last #24in48 update! Buuuut...
I did it! I read for over 24 hrs! Yay! 😄
And I managed to start Daughter of the Burning City, which has been on my TBR list for a long while now.
How about you? Did you accomplish any of your reading goals this weekend?
#SeptemberDanes #CityOfDreams Set in the world of illusions this YA fantasy is a murder mystery unfolding in the middle of a dark and mysterious magical circus. At the heart of this novel is Sorina, a girl with no eyes, yet graced with the ability to weave complex and realistic illusions. My first (and only)YA fantasy ~ great world building but the story, romance and mystery was thin & weak! I tried...#MoreMehThanYeah **image from Google**
[#BookReview] Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody was such a fun read! It is not a perfect book and I had some issues with the execution as a whole. However, the story and the murder mystery completely hooked me and had me needing to know what was going to happen next. Click the link below for my full thoughts! Have you read it? 📖🔥🌆

This was a weird one for me. It was literally painful to read, but I kept going because I needed to know what happened. So good story, but poor execution I guess 🤷♀️
Quite enjoyed this magical, quirky, dark read. Inventive and detailed world building, original yet relatable characters, intriguing plot (albeit at times perhaps slightly predictable, but more of a guess than an actual “I solved the mystery!” sort of situation). The pace slows a bit towards the middle but then picks up again. The writing was ok, but the world was so immersive it did the job. A very satisfying read! Thank you so much @Cinfhen 💜💜
In this den of assassins, thieves, and entertainers, we find an illusionist with the power to turn her imaginings into flesh and bone. When the impossible happens and one of them is murdered, her world begins to splinter apart as she searches for the villain who‘s systematically killing off her family. Daughter of the Burning City contains unique characters not frequently seen in its genre thrown into a world of magic, murder, and self-discovery.
A few good deals on Amazon today. I have my eye on 2 others as well. Trying to resist BUT my birthday is coming up...lol.
I loved how the world of Gomorrah was described. The language was lyrical and so easy to escape into. I enjoyed the mystery and the subtle romance (it wasn‘t overt and in your face, which is nice). I did figure out who was commuting the murders pretty early on but there was a twist that I didn‘t see coming, which I enjoyed. I do hope to see more of Gomorrah and it‘s traveling shows.
It‘s here!!!! 😍😍😍
Thank you so, so much @Cinfhen !💜💜💜
I‘m so excited, I can‘t wait to start!
So...I read a YA fantasy book and it wasn‘t terrible. I was engaged for the first half but then the plot and story started to dragggggg and I figured out from the onset who the “bad guy” was. Glad I tried it but I won‘t be reading another YA fantasy for awhile.
About to start something completely different 💜the #purplecover is stunning and this was from my #ssgp @scripturient 🙌🏻🤗🤗 photo isn‘t doing this cover any justice~ hope the inside is equally breathtaking!
I‘m really liking this audiobook so far!
"'But you‘re an illusion,'” I say. 'I created you.'

Just got to ch. 3 and its really interesting. Hello mysterious death....what?!?! Whoa. Okay....😯
Was hoping for more from this - I really did want to love it
Just started this, heard so many good things about this book that I can‘t wait to dive in
Really great read with an interesting premise, fantastical world building and likeable characters all topped with a tense mystery. I really loved the clever use of simple illustrations to give a glimpse in to the past and to add another "voice" to this first person present tense narrative. Like the smoky nocturnal city itself, this book invites you in to its constantly moving world of magic and stomach twisting entertainment.
It started a bit slow for me, but i love the story line a lot! Plot twist over plot twist!! I love the deep characer she made. Recommended!
Sometimes you just really need to visit a carnival.
Daughter of the Burning City was such a treat! It was mysterious, thrilling, original and cute all at the same time, with really amazing characters. A central theme in the book is what makes someone a 'real' person, something that's definitely less clear than it seems. I would have preferred a somewhat less predictable story though - it was pretty obvious who the murderer was throughout most of the book...
A burning city would surely leave #ashestoashes. #septembowie
I love the plot of the story, cause for me travelling circus are fun. Not that i've experienced it, there arent any in my part of the world. The story line is also good! However, i feel that it is a bit rushed... i think it could have been a great series or perhaps duology... just to get more into the details on how things turned out like they did.
Another random pick to listen to while I work and another winner! I loved the mystic atmosphere of the carnival as well as it's history. The additional of some Old Testament lore involving Gomorra was pretty cool and I also think that focusing on the Mystery element was a great touch. It seems like YA novels tend to stay away from Mystery novels.
Hopefully my next #workaudio is a good one. I've had some trouble finding binge worthy listens.
Work audio! About 3 hrs in and so far it's pretty good.
#NewAuthors I've only read 2 out of the 4 so far, but the other 2 are on my TBR for the month! Technically Jessica Estevao isn't a new author, as her 2nd book is coming out this month. I just really liked her first book!! #AwesomeAutumnBooks
Can't wait to read this beauty!
My #BookRainbow for #FallIntoBooks photo challenge. A mix of read and #tbr 🤓📚
Really enjoyed this book ! The best part was the worldbuilding. It was fascinating, and portrayed the setting almost like a character. Loved the eerie dark parts. Would recommend this if you'd like to read a mystery thriller-like whodunit in a fantasy setting, with a gasp-worthy plot-twist ! I finished Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody! I really found myself enjoying this book and found it so fascinating. I loved the world and the characters! It was just a magical time!
Sorina is an illusionist in a traveling show whose illusions start getting murdered. In order to save her illusion family she has to find out who's you blame. Add in magic, political intrigue, and a touch of romance... you've got a unique and engaging story.
At times Sorina's voice seems a little too naive and childish, but she's only 16 and has been sheltered. And as the book progresses you start to understand why that's the case.
Enjoyable.
It's raining and I have nowhere to be for the next five hours. The prefect morning...
I had a rough day at work, so tonight I'm settling in with a new book, a mug of tea, and childhood comfort food (a peanut butter and cheese sandwich).
I can't wait to read this one! It has such a gorgeous cover and sounds so interesting.
