🤯🤗Absolutely LOVED everything about this Jack McEvoy #1/Bosch Universe #5 book!! Highly recommended!
Not sure if I‘ll be able to hold out & to read them in Universe order (#s 24 & 32😳). Regardless, I‘ll be buying them on my next bookstore run ‘cause my grandma will be waiting for it soon😂 I left it with her Saturday & she‘s a very quick reader.

Denver crime-beat reporter Jack McEvoy specializes in violent death. So when his homicide detective brother kills himself, McEvoy copes in the only way he knows how--he decides to write the story. But his research leads him to suspect a serial killer is at work--a devious murderer who's killing cops and leaving a trail of poetic clues.

Started my second book for #ChunksterChallenge2024. This one is only in the almost a chunkster category at 515 pages. That said it‘s quite small print and a lot of words on each page so feels much bigger than a 500+ page book. @Amiable
This is the first Jack McEvoy book, and the fifth book in the #BoschUniverseSeries. #SeriesLove2024 @TheSpineView
It‘s also off my bookshelves.

Couldn‘t sleep last night, but I got another longer book finished for #Scarathlon! Small victories, but now I wanna nap. 😅 #spookyghostclub

This one was a little too twisty and too slow for my taste. The characters rely a little too much on cliche to be very interesting. It is interesting, though, to read back to how things were in the 90s when cellphones weren't ubiquitous and internet was dial-up. Looking back it's almost funny how the characters are like, "Wow, people can use the internet to network and share pictures?"

Pausing while getting ready for work to look longingly at my Kobo. I do enjoy getting back to academic year teaching, but I'm really missing my reading time.

I've decided to read Connelly's books in the "Bosch Universe" order instead of strictly the Bosch series. This is the first book featuring Jack McEvoy, a crime beat reporter whose twin brother has died from an apparent suicide. Convinced there's more to the story, Jack uncovers a serial killer using Poe calling cards disguised as suicide notes.
Have I mentioned that I'm now a proud, card carrying member of the Michael Connelly fan club?!

This book is described as a “masterclass in thriller writing” ..and it is. It‘s 25 years since it was first published but it didn‘t seem dated. One of those books you can‘t put down📚
I will definitely be reading more Michael Connelly. Great holiday reading😊✅

Bk1 of my #MarchUnshelfing #readathon & #challenge is done! I very much enjoyed this story, just like I do most of Connollys work. The 1st in his Jack McEvoy series, it moves from Colorado to Chicago before finishing in L.A, where most of his books are set. Jack, a reporter at a Denver paper, becomes involved in a serial killer case when his twin brother, a cop, apparently commits suicide. Questioning the COD, he breaks open The Poet‘s case.

Kicking off my #MarchUnshelfing #readathon & challenge with a book that‘s been on my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom for quite a few years. This is one of the few Connolly books I haven‘t read yet, it‘s not a Bosch so it kinda kept sliding down my list. I love this author, he writes about L.A with such love its vividly brought to life in my imagination, though this one is one of the few set elsewhere I believe. Looking forward to diving in🏊♀️

I have finished a book for the #WinterGames. I‘ve had this one on my shelf for over a year, so it‘s a #TBRRead. #MerryReaders

Connelly abandons Bosch for this one, but it's still pretty good. Our hero is a middling successful crime reporter who at the start of the novel learns that his cop twin brother has eaten his gun. But something doesn't sit right with Jack and soon he's hot on the trail of a pedophile cop-killer. This was first published in 1996 and the references to digital cameras and dial-up modems that take 5 minutes to download a photo only add to its charm.

#BookMail Pt12 Another bargain from Booktopia‘s EOFYS sale. Though I didn‘t realise it was one of those tiny trade paperbacks that fit in a handbag! It‘s about an inch smaller all round than all my other Connolly paperbacks. I used to have all of his books but a lot have “disappeared” over the years. This is one of his earlier novels, it‘s not a Bosch but set in the same universe. A reporter becomes the target of a serial killer in LA.

Lately I‘ve avoided #adrenaline in my reading - needing my reading time to be a calm oasis in my day - but back in the 90s I loved this novel. Bought it as a gift for lots of people who loved it too. I think I‘m ready to dip back into modern detective novels again, but thrillers not so much. I figure my mountainous and tottering TBR is already dangerous enough! #crushedbybooks

A very in-depth and all-engaging read, which moves along in a very addictive manner. It was written in 1996 so has a bit of a dated feel, prior to all modern day technologies. I enjoyed this book a lot, but didn‘t work out who the Poet was. If you enjoy good serial killer books I thoroughly recommend it. Now back onto the Bosch Series with Trunk Music.

I bought this book mistakenly thinking it was a new novel. So imagine my surprise when no one has a mobile phone, people are still using pay phones, there‘s only dial up modems and digital cameras are rare/unusual . Apart from that a well paced twist filled thriller. Thought I had it solved. I was wrong.

Started listening to the Poet by Michael Connelly, which is book 1 in the Jack McAvoy Series and Book 5 in the Harry Bosch Universe. It is too long since I read Book 4 in the Universe, and need to read more by Michael Connelly. An interesting start to the book which has got me intrigued and very much looking forward to continuing.

Has anyone read this book? I liked the Lincoln Lawyer so picked it up on impulse. And look at these cute stamps, Happy Hanukkah!

“Death is my beat. I make my living out of it. “ the Poet is my fave Michael Connelly so far! But then I say that every time I finish one of his books ! MC is the master 💫💫💫

A serial killer who leaves Edgar Allan Poe quotes at his murder scenes? And with a foreword by #StephenKing? This sounds right up @WanderingBookaneer ‘s alley!

Just what I wanted, an all action thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Great story. Love Michael Connelly 😀👍

#currentlyreading
Read so many deep, dark books in the last couple of weeks that I just fancied a good mystery/thriller. Love Michael Connolly.

There are a number of authors I love. But there is one that I have been crazy for since his first book. I always read a new book by Michael Connelly the minute it comes out. I met him once and made a fool of myself. 😁#17booklove #authorilove

Picked this up for two reasons. 1. I love stouts. 2. I knew I could post about it on @Litsy #BookandBrew
