pickI loved friends & friendship in this book! Main characters had awesome close friends and I just loved that. Characters were likable.
This started mysteriously and it took some time to get into the story. I adored magic in this book - especially Kate's ability to communicate with horses.
Even though I really enjoyed this book I can't deny that the plot wasn't really unique.

“Onyx & Ivory” was a great read. From its fast-paced plot, to its flawed characters and impressive world-building, I flew through this book. I also enjoyed the character development, and the few plot twists that mainly occur toward the end. Here‘s to hoping that the sequel doesn‘t disappoint.
so-soListened to this on audio and think I enjoyed it on audio more than if I had read it physically. Though it's been a bit since I've read fantasy, so maybe that's why. Only Mages in the kingdom of Rose can possess magic. Others who do are called Wilders and are rounded up and killed, which is weird to me. pickOverall, fantastic book. I had a hard time putting it down. Arnett did an excellent job tying everything together. The characters are lovable, and the world is rich in lore. Highly recommend. I even picked up the sequel and can't wait to read it.

Flashback to last week when I spent the day reading on my favourite beach (with healthy snacks of course). The cloud cover kept the crowds away and I think it‘s the most relaxed I‘ve been in years 😎
pickI quite liked this book but nothing about it truly wowed me. I‘ll probably pick up the second instalment at some point. Had some good ideas but I wasn‘t as invested as I am with some other books.

Accomplished the beautiful feat of getting a library card and immediately checking out a decent amount of books. Fifteen, to be exact.
Still need to finish Nevernight, of course, but I‘m suddenly suspecting I‘ll be much more able to finish my goal of reading 200 (or 250, ideally) books this year.
Only 4 chapters into the book and I‘m already hooked!
so-soIt wasn't a bad book. The magic she introduces is new, a breath of fresh air amid the multiple magic books I've been reading.
However, it dragged. Maybe it is predictable, but I couldn't keep my focus on it after 300 pages. I read the last chapter just to know the ending, but I couldn't complete the last 75 or so pages.
so-soIt was ok. Started out promising, but the plot was kind of predictable. Maybe I‘m just bored with the genre and need a break for a bit.

pickShe‘s a master with weaving in subplots. I was a voluntary prisoner to this book the whole time I read it, reading huge chunks at a time. However, the way it ended is creaming SEQUEL to me. It kills me! Aggg!
pickThe title/cover did nothing for me. But I love this book! It has joined the ranks of my top 3 of the year. Kate's father was a traitor, having tried to kill the king, and that has left her with the name Traitor Kate. She has to hide her wilder magic ability to speak with/control animals, else she be just for that as well, since wilder magic is illegal. Then she rescues her old friend, Prince Corwin, from a drake attack and things begin to change.
I'm approximately half way through Onyx and Ivory and here are a few thoughts -- I love the book so far! I just think the title and cover aren't all that appealing or attention grabbing, and I worry that readers will pass the book over because of that. If I still love it when I finish, I'm going to spread the word so hopefully it won't go unappreciated.

The story was good, too. There were some minor things were it seemed the characters were acting dumb so the story could progress, but overall I liked the story.
WARNING: This is probably going to be a series. Just so you know.
So I had to return this before I finished it last month, and I finally got it back out again. I really enjoyed it so far, hope I can finish it this week
This line is from the tagged book: “Hers was wilder magic, outlawed and secret and good only for influencing animals,” and I was immediately put in mind of the pictured book. I wonder if Mindee Arnette is a Tortall fan.

pickHOLY CRAP! I've read 125 books so far this year and this is definitely one of my favourites! so good! I am absolutely in love with the magic, politics and characters. The villain reveal COMPLETELY blindsided me! I adored the romance.

pickI enjoyed it overall. A few times I had to take a break and read a different book because it's heavy, physically and metaphorically. The story was unique and the writing style was pleasant. World building and character development were also very well done. I do not like the cliffhanger. A reviewer on GoodReads said it was a quick read, I most definitely disagree.
My holds came in. I've read 3 books in 6 days which is a lot for me. I plan to finish By a Charm and a Curse tomorrow. I'm torn which to start next....Orphan or Onyx? Hmmmm....🤔

pickThis awesome epic fantasy that I‘ve been on the ‘Street Team‘ for (as a ‘Relay Rider‘) is finally being released tomorrow! Onyx and Ivory is one of the best books I‘ve read this year in the fantasy genre, filled with dark monsters, forbidden magic, and a cast of vibrant, edgy characters. The main character ‘Traitor Kate‘ has ‘wilder magic‘, and can communicate with animals with her mind; her character stuck with me. Read this one!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
