A timeless classic that never fails to bring a smile to my lips. Ahead of its time in some things, not so much in others (and this should definitely be updated), it's a simple story (or collection of stories) with remarkable characters. It's hard, if not downright impossible, not to be charmed and inspired by Pipi.

Rereading a childhood favorite. On the left was what my original copy of Pippi looked like. I wish it had survived childhood. On the right is the replacement copy I purchased in the late 90‘s.
“You see, I am really very shy, so if I didn't give myself some commands I'd just stand in the hall and not dare to come in.“
I have to try that whenever my social anxiety hits 😅
#CHILDRENSCLASSICREAD2024
“ 'Aren't you going to dry the floor?' asked Annika. 'Oh, no, it can dry in the sun,' answered Pipi. 'I don't think it will catch cold so long as it keeps moving.'“
Good to know 😂

#TBRtarot for April. Doubling up on this one that I‘m reading with the #childrensclassicread2024 group.
“At that time she was usually grooming her horse or dressing Mr. Nilsson in his little suit. (...) Then she would sit down on the kitchen table and, utterly happy, drink a large cup of coffee and eat a piece of bread and cheese. “
Now, this is a girl that knows how to live! Though, I'm not so sure that drinking coffee when you're already a very hyperactive kid is a good idea 😅
#CHILDRENSCLASSICREAD2024
“'My papa is a cannibal king (...) And as soon as my papa has built himself a boat he will come and get me, and I'll be a cannibal princess'.“, In “Pipi Longstocking“, by Astrid Lindgren.
How cool is that? I too would like to be a cannibal princess! 😂

Sorry for the bad cover, it‘s part of a best book of the 20th century series.
I grew up watching Pippi on television, the Swedish series from the 60s. So no surprises when it came to what happened, each chapter feels like an episode. I am surprised at how true to the book the series actually was. And after reading the book I actually know how old Pippi is, and it‘s younger than I thought. She‘s 9.
1. I barely have any coin much less bitcoin. 💰
2. Doesn‘t Pippi have a pot of gold? 🐒
Thanks for the tag @Bklover

$10 bag sale at the flea market! And I got more besides books!
Sorry I've been so absent here! This year is flying by. Here's a picture of my days right now... My 9 month old is very much in the phase where every stack must be unstacked and every container dumped. And she's pulling up, so the bottom 2 bookshelves don't stand a chance 😂 #raisingreaders
Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView ! 👍
1. I don‘t know if I have a favorite female literary character, but Pippi Longstocking came to mind. She can do anything!
2. Apparently Stieg Larsson imagined Lisbeth Salander as a modern, grown up Pippi. I‘d like to transport Pippi into Villette as Lucy Snowe‘s childhood friend. She‘d certainly change the trajectory of that novel. 😂

This book was wild man. I read the second one with my fifth grade class and honestly had no memory of anything about the characters. I was definitely not expecting people to just let Pippie get away with all her antics, albeit that they were ridiculously hilarious. Still not sure what a “scrubbing vacation” is though. 4⭐️

By the end of the conversation I had with Claribel Ortega on this week‘s episode of my book podcast, we decided that we need to make some “What Would Pippi Do?” merch… so there‘s a lot to look forward to in this Pippi Longstocking episode! Listen at the link in my bio.
Pippi, who lives alone in Villa Villekula with her monkey and horse is such a spirited and confident child and it a joy to escape into her world. I like children's literature because a child 's imagination can overcome the bleakest of life circumstances, an ability that people generally lose with age.
#OnThisDay in 2002, celebrated children's author and publisher Astrid Lindgren passed away. Through Pippi Longstocking and many more, she brought joy to millions of children around the world. "A childhood without books – that would be no childhood. That would be like being shut out from the enchanted place where you can go and find the rarest kind of joy." She also had an asteroid named after her, which is pretty darn cool. #HistoryGetsLIT
You can always count on Pippi for an uplifting and positive quote.

When I was young, I was no different than I am now; in other words, I was a reader. Somehow, though, I missed some kids classics like this book and the Narnia ones. Where I‘m enjoying the Narnia ones, Pippi Longstocking is just okay. At 8 or 9, I suspect I would have loved it. At 64, I keep thinking she shouldn‘t be living alone and find some of her behavior to be bratty. That said, I will probably give it to my 8 year old granddaughter. 😊
I‘ve been slacking on my podcasts so I started listening to this one while I was giving my dog a bath. I forgot how much I enjoyed the Overdue podcast! Craig and Andrew crack me up 😆
I listened to this on audio, and it was quite short, but very sweet. It would be a fun book to read with kids.
I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that

Pippi Longstocking is the epitome of #enthusiasm & made everything a great adventure. One of my childhood favorites, the books & the movie.
Since I am late to the party, I won‘t tag anyone specifically but feel free to join in! 😉
1. I'm a mix of Pippi Longstocking and Anne of Green Gables
2. I was on the swim and dive team. I played softball as a kid.

1. I never played sports, but I was one of the managers for my high school football team for a season. 😅😂 I watch wrestling, UFC, AFL (Australian Rules Football, the greatest sport invented) and just recently discovered and became a fan of Calcio Storico.
2. Two weeks of Fall Break!

Some of Pippi‘s exploits are truly bizarre but her spirit is a good match for my irrepressible 5 year old‘s.
Day 14 of #20Series20Days.
Pippi! And this is probably the only movie/TV series cover that I like. 😆

I‘m loving my new puzzle! Hopefully the last one I have time to do during this pandemic. I can‘t wait to hang it in my grandkids‘ toyroom!
Happy 75th birthday, Pippi!
#acrossapril April 9: wild child
Pippi Longstocking was a wild child because having spent her entire life at sea and seemingly an orphan, she has limited knowledge of societal expectations for common courtesy and childhood behavior.
I'm going to give this prompt a little spin and only choose books and book series that I read as a child or early teen. All of these books will have impacted me in one way or another.
#7Days7Books Day 1
Seven books that left a deep impression on me and/or changed me.
Remote learning! My son‘s teacher is reading to them from the tagged book. It is their class novel study. I am holding the book because he is eating chocolate donuts for breakfast at the same time.
Anyone else such a book nerd that you buy the books your kids are reading in school with their classes? I love reading what they are reading plus this way I can help them study for their test at the end.
Pippy‘s birthday party ❤️
One of my favorite children‘s books. My younger daughter, 20+ years ago channeling a favorite character.
#HollyJollyReading Day 13: Pippi Long #Stocking can not be contained within the pages. She is much too expansive, too larger than life – for her to fit into a full page spread as portrayed by Lauren Child. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-jv1
Pipi makes me laugh! I want a horse to live on my porch! She‘s confident and a bit absurd, but always makes everything fun.To escape the moment and share her adventures again was a pleasure.
HBD to Astrid Lindgren!
I first discovered Pippi as a movie, I watched the new adventures of Pippi Longstocking as a kid on repeat and was a fully fledged adult before I found, read and loved the books!
Pictured : Astrid and the actress who played Pippi in the original film.
Pippi Longstocking was one of my favourites as a kid. She is such a strong and amazing character for kids.
