Horrörstör is still my fave Hendrix but this was a fun ride through heavy metal!
Heavy metal vs Hell - who wins???
This was a interesting book/audiobook to listen to.

I don‘t have a picture of my ballot because I mailed it in a couple weeks agoβ¦ instead here‘s my husband flying a kite at the beach yesterday (he voted by mail too!) and the last book I finished tagged so it‘s bookish π(this was another weird Hendrix horror - there were some gruesome parts and so many metal lyrics) #AuldLangSpine @monalyisha
I accomplished my goals and more:
Finished the tagged book for #AuthorAMonth, read The Winter Sister for #Bookspin, I read my #SundayBuddyRead section, am almost finished with Fairy Tale - Stephen King AND started The Last Chairlift - John Irving. A successful #OutstandingOctober Readathon!

I maintain that Grady Hendrix is a literary pop-culture genius.
This book is loaded with fantastic characters (I‘m sort of in love with Kris), heavy metal and rock references, humor, general creepiness, and some straight up disturbing body horror. I loved it, and really, really wish I could listen to Troglodyte.
Rock on. π€πΌ

My #AAM pick for this month!
I love Grady Hendrix and his homage to pop culture. A washed up musician tries to reunite her former bandmates and discovers one of them literally sold their souls for fame and fortune. A tribute to rock and roll and heavy metal music, this is more than supernatural horror, it's an experience!
I remembered why this is my least favorite Hendrix: I don‘t like the #audiobook narration! The story is interesting: a guitarist who lost out on fame tries to figure out what exactly happened on the night her bandmate signed a solo record contract that elevated him to superstardom. I liked the blending of conspiracy theory with demonic influence. His books are just plain fun, especially for horror. But the narrator was ππ» #AuthorAMonth
4.3βοΈ Hendricks does horror only the way he can. Creepy and someone gruesome, yet hard to put down. Definitely recommend following Kris as she follows her gut, dreams and faces her fears in the rock story. This is also my #doublebookspin for #bookspinbingo.
A combination of metal and horror, I was always going to love this π€π»
Torn between Pick and So-So... but the pick symbol is on this cover... so I chose Pick lol

Enjoy!
Such a fun horror novel. Not my favourite by Grady Hendrix but I had a great time reading it. I thought Kris was a great main character and I loved the worldbuilding and the way the horror built up was great. The music industry doesn‘t come off well - I‘m sure more than a few musicians would say they signed their souls away in the contracts too
π§ HellStock 19!
Typical Grady Hendrix book. Last half, DARK!
Kris starts a 90‘s metal band called Durt Wurk, they‘re on the verge of making it when their lead singer takes off on a solo career. He skyrockets to stardom as his old band plummets into obscurity.
20 years Later Kris is broke, unhappy & working at a BestWestern when she decides Terry did something to change all of their lives & is determined to figure out what it is.

I absolutely love Grady Hendrix books, the perfect books for October! These books are a perfect mix of humor, horror and nostalgia. 5βοΈ (Grateful to my iPad during our power outage yesterdayβ¦)
This was a fun read. I like I haven‘t read anything quite like this, so that was really enjoyable. I would have liked more clarity on the actual mythology, I felt that part was a bit vague. However, the book was action packed and had some great pacing, so I never really felt a lull.
Personally I would have liked a bit more horror in there. It felt almost more like an action adventure. Solid, fun read overall, but didn‘t wow me.
I picked this up and put it down a couple of times in the beginning but in the end was really, really vibing with it.
I started out thinking I was going to rate this as "so-so" but as I'm remembering how much I was invested in this story and music by the end, I must pick it. This isn't exactly my genre of music but this was the book I needed during a ride on the struggle bus.
I'm becoming a fan of Grady Hendrix and was excited to start this one but...I've come to the decision that musical based books just are not my thing π Solid story but I really didn't care about the band, what happened or where it was going. I made it half way...that was enough.

3-14-21: My 27th finished book of 2021! Kris Pulaski was the lead guitarist of a metal band called Durt Wurk until the lead singer left to start a solo career and became a sensation. Now Kris works at a Best Western. When a shocking act of violence occurs, Kris is sure her old lead singer is behind it and seeks vengeance. Hendrix‘s novels are always creepy and this one didn‘t disappoint. βοΈβοΈβοΈ #wesoldoursouls #gradyhendrix ππΌπ#οΈβ£2οΈβ£7οΈβ£
This was a wild ride. It‘s about a former metal guitarist putting together the pieces of a rock opera she created with her back stabbing band, to save the world. But also there‘s a mythology about a hole in the world, and everyone who sells their soul, and the need to fill it. There are creepy creatures, conspiracies, crazed fans, some gore, and lots of music references. My favorite line, βA girl with a guitar never has to apologize for anythingβ
3 stars
Grady Hendrix has become an βautomatic buyβ author for me. I loved My Best friends Exorcism and The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. We Sold Our Souls was just okay. I truly wanted to love it.
Read: 2/5/21-2/9/21
Four stars! A dark and gruesome novel behind the scenes of the lengths a musician will go to sellout for fame and riches. I loved it. I cannot get enough of Grady Hendrix. If you like dark and sinister I recommend this. Also try his book The Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires **shudder**
Kris was in a rock band years ago before her bandmate decided he wanted to be a solo singer. He becomes a rockstar because he sold his ex-bandmate's souls to these monsters. Kris sets out to get her soul back.
2 word review - hell yeah
Loved this book sure I missed loads of references not being a metal fan but I love the inclusion of Dolly Parton showing what a powerful influence she is in the music industry.
As with all books about bands I wish I could hear the music.
Another great female lead taking on the job of saving the world.
Pure fun escapism.
Started this morning finished this afternoon.
Great book! Grady Hendrix did it again, mixing nostalgia and horror well. Totally recommend.
The devil‘s in the details, and I LOVE some colored edges! π€©π€©π€©
Another winner from Hendrix. I wish I could listen to the fictional music in this.
Metal never surrenders. π€

I liked this a lot. The story is mainly told from the point of view of an aging rock star who never made it big. It gets very creepy and scary at times. Anyone with claustrophobia probably shouldn't read it π
βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ I loved it, Grady Hendrix smashes it again with the right blend of horror and comedy. When heavy metal band Dürt Würk breaks up, Kris Pulaski is left out in the cold. Most of the bands former members are failures; but not Terry Hunt and his new brand of music and band Koffin. To save herself and humanity Kris must challenge Terry and use her music to set herself free. βMetal never does. Metal never retreats. Metal never surrenders.β
This is my favorite Grady Hendrix book so far. I liked that it went to a darker place, with some pretty creepy bad guys. This explores the concept of a great evil, trying to devour everyones souls. And how easy it is to sell your soul in these days where you don't always read the fine print before you agree. This is an epic tale of an epic rocker, Kris Pulaski. The story rings true, and feels like it could be a story about any famous rock band.
βHave you noticed how soulless this world has become? How empty and prefabricated?β
Currently reading. This really resonated with me. I think the world is in trouble.
Once again Grady Hendrix uses wit and humor and a bit of gore to satirize modern culture. This time through the platform of heavy metal, Hendrix raps on fame, fortune, friendship and rock & rollπ Maybe not my favorite GH satire but still a fun read. Thanks so much for gifting this to me @megabooks πππΈ My UK cover rocks βπ½
I‘m on a roll......have high hopes for this one βπ½π€ππΈ

Enjoyable read
The book was undeniably entertaining. As has been the case with his other novels, Hendrix made me laugh, made me sad, grossed me out, and made me think.

Last month I had to do a very painful thing. After reading 215 pages in We Sold Our Souls, I decided to set it aside. It hurt. You might wonder what would prompt me to make such a crazy decision. Well, friends, I did it because I love my daughter.
Let me explain: I convinced my daughter to read this book with me for a buddy read, mainly because I‘m

I liked where the story was going but it didn‘t have the same heart as My Friends Exorcism.
Kris Pulaski knows something happened on contract signing night...other than the accident. But no one remembers and now a former band mate is on billboards everywhere and Kris decides it‘s time to get the band together one last time and find out what really happened. Even if it costs them everything, because she‘s got nothing left to lose.

I cannot even begin to express how excited I am about May reading! I have a great pile of potentials stacked up and I already have discussions set up for the 4 books pictured here! Horrorstor was the most recent pick for my book club and the other 3 are all buddy reads. I feel confident that these are all going to be fantastic reads!
Sooooo.... now that I have this new obsession, tell me, which Grady Hendrix book should I read next???
Kris sat in the basement, hunched over her guitar, trying to play the beginning of Black Sabbath's "Iron Maiden." #firstlinefridays
Another gem from Hendrix who really has a way writing female characters I identify with and want to root for! This was definitely a "metal up your ass" book and experience from my metal loving, drum playing husband definitely helped! DΓΌrt WΓΌrk is a fairly popular metal band when things all fall apart but not in a natural way. Follow Kris Pulaski on her journey to fill in the blanks and get what she deserves. #mountTBR 3/337
I got so sucked into this last night that I read like a teenager who can afford to stay up all damn night!!! I nodded off on the couch then went to bed and read until 1:30 but I didn't realize it was really 2:30 and we have a cookie booth for Brownies AND I forgot to turn the clocks ahead! #MomFail
I‘m not a big horror fan but this was really fun and weird and a little disturbing in terms of politics which I guess is a kind of unique take on the horrifying when you think about it. So thumbs up for me. Plus this cover is KICK-ASS!
I don‘t think that Grady Hendrix can write a book I don‘t like. He writes real, relatable characters. Particularly the women. I appreciate that. Hendrix puts his darkly comic spin on horror once again and I am delighted!
