I think this might have been on a Book Riot cozy list? Not sure, but that may be how it ended up on my TBR.

I enjoyed it. It‘s a middle grade mystery with stories within the story, an inn for smugglers, a role playing game, and lots of snow and hot chocolate. Light and fun, it would be a good palate cleanser.

Feeling cruddy and waiting for the Walgreens delivery that is bringing the COVID test, so it seems like a good time to revisit on old favorite.

Greenglass House was my favorite read of the month! I also really enjoyed the two #furrowedmiddlebrow books— clothes pegs and seaview house. 12 completed, 3 in progress.

Inventive tale. Fun holiday read.

This was such a fun mystery! I would have loved it as a kid, right around the time that I was obsessively reading The Westing Game and Harriet the Spy 😊

This MG read was for my IRL book club. I normally really enjoy books like this but I felt this one had a slow start and lagged in the middle. The ending was great though and I wish the rest of the book had been similarly paced.

It felt a bit like Clue meets Mysterious Benedict Society, but with too many characters. I loved the idea of an Inn for smugglers where a kid finds a map that sends them on an adventure, but this needed some editing.

I was a bit hesitant when a RPG played a big part in the story - but oh! it ended up being rather wonderful. Greenglass House was magnificent - I loved how the story talked about adoption and belonging - and how the history of Greenglass House and the people who lived there or visited played such an integral role in how the story unfolded.

It‘s also kind of niche - but I really like stories that involve stained glass windows.

I‘ve seen this book come through library returns many times and have always been obsessed with the cover, so I bought it when it appeared on a bookbub email full of kindle deals - anyway cover love and motivation finally synced up and I‘ve got less than 100 pages to go…

This is the 2nd December I‘ve bailed on this book. Having loved Winterhouse & being a fan of The Westing Game and Clue, I thought I would also like Greenglass House. But when I have lots of December books to choose from, I don‘t feel motivated to come back to this audio. When listening on audio, it feels difficult to keep up with the many characters. I‘m giving this one last shot next December. Maybe I‘ll try the ebook. But for now I‘m bailing.

Cute Christmas read!

I had high hopes for this one, but is seemed like everything was a misdirection. Ooh a hotel for smugglers? Twist there‘s only one there and she‘s keeping it a secret. And that twist at the end was dumb and it sucked. And when Milo and Meddy‘s would start calling each other by their game characters names it really roped me up. 3⭐️

This book was quite good but a little boring at times, 2nd half was better than the 1st half.

Read for the #Buzzwordathon - February‘s word is colour

This was a wonderful middle grade story. In fact. I think anyone who loves stories would enjoy this one as it's full of stories within a story. I did listen to this one on audio and it was a fun one. A smugglers inn where Milo is hoping for a nice, quiet holiday with his parents. But out of nowhere all kinds of guests arrive with their own secrets and Milo decides to find out what they are. Just a fun story.

Next up on my kindle! We're having decidedly unwinter like weather here, so I'm going to live vicariously through winter books.

Up next - starting my series reread (minus Bluecrowne). It‘s actually something of a holiday book, as it‘s set over Milo‘s Christmas vacation. Likewise for the second book.

I really adored this middle grade. I feel like the topic of adoption was presented so well. There are people in my family that are adopted so this one hit close to home for me. I really enjoyed the coziness of this book: the family, the descriptions, the food, the hot cocoa, the crackling fire, the Christmas vibes, the reading, and the adventure/mystery. It's just so good!

The third book I read from the #NewYearWhoDis list from @Bookishthoughts .This was my favorite.
A middle grade read. Milo‘s family owns an old inn that primarily caters to smugglers. Five guests unexpectedly show up at Christmas time. When things start disappearing from guest rooms Milo and his new friend Meddy, begin playing an RPG with the goal of finding the missing objects and the thief.
I enjoyed this start to finish.I already have the sequel

This is a middle grade novel about a boy whose parents own an inn with a mysterious history. Unexpected guests arrive, nearly filling the inn but all Milo wants to do is relax for his winter holiday. They bring with them clues that Milo & his new friend Meddy piece together using an old role-paying game. The beginning of the book hooked me, the middle dragged a bit, but the second half is where things pick up & the story takes off. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Happy New Year! I was hoping to finish this book on NYE, but work and family prevented that. I worked a full day and then made some of my family‘s favorite foods for our NYE game night tradition. I only read for about 20 minutes yesterday. Today will be all about the reading though. Starting my year off right in hopes that I will make my reading goals in 2020! ❤️📚

Grateful for the cousins downstairs playing games together while the turkey cooks, that we have a home where we can host family for the holiday, and that they're generous about the fact that I burned the pie crust.

Spotted this book that my boys never read and decided that I would. Milford creates an intriguing story and a haunting atmosphere. I enjoyed it, but there were a few things that could have been written differently: Milo's adoption is mentioned frequently but isn't essential to the story, and Milford switches back and forth between Milo and Meddy's names and their nicknames for each other which breaks the flow of the story somewhat. 4.0⭐ #2019

Winner of the Edgar award, this cozy mystery is about Milo, twelve-year-old, who is pulled into the secretive affairs of the guests of his parents‘ hotel over Christmas break. Each of them is after something, but what? This story is as much about Milo discovering his own identity as the patrons of the Smugglers inn finding what they are after. Stories are told throughout which unveil clues on all accounts. A fun read!

I've been reading a bunch the past week. So time to update Litsy :) LOVE this book. It's a cozy kid mystery set in a cozy inn run by the protagonist's (Milo) parents. It takes place during the Christmas holiday break. It checks so many of my boxes for a good, relaxing, adventurous read.
