This was a great listen. I really enjoyed the Netflix of it too. ( #BookToScreen) It did make me feel very sad though that this might be something (even if it is a bit exaggerated) that girls may go through similar experiences.

Doing some #AudioCrocher while listening to this one. As a non-mom and very far removed from high school… I hope if‘s super exaggerating the “bump n grind” thing… But… I do remember in college football players would drop things and myself and the other cheerleaders might not have realized what they where doing😡

@Chrissyreadit poated the quiz and I knew I had to take it.

https://www.idrlabs.com/feminist-perspectives/test.php

I never really considered myself a feminist. Although I have very strong opinions about women's rights, I was not sure of the label. However, reading the descriptions of the different types of feminists was helpful in identifying which group I belong to.

Cuilin I just did this too. So interesting. Sending it to my daughters. 1mo

ElizaMarie @Sharpeipup Actually I saw the Netflix movie first (I don't normally watch the movie first). But I really enjoyed the movie, that I figured I would love to visit the source material (I am already loving it!) Also, I am enjoying how its got enough differences (so far) to make it a little fresh. 1mo

My local indie, The Book Tavern, had an art show titled Book on a Box in September. Artists could create any type of art as long as it fit on a 12x12 box about the book of their choice!
My daughter and I created a '90s zine piece inspired by the tagged book. We were honored to have ours hanging with so many wonderful works. I brought it home last week along with some new books, of course 😉

I really liked the whole Moxie group, that part of the story was great. The romance took away from that at times, but how it worked out in the end was okay. It also seemed like some parts of it didn't flow as smoothly as I would have liked. Other than that, it was really good. Now I'm going to have to watch the movie.

Vivian is who I wanted to be in high school. I was quiet, like her, but not brave enough to speak out against unjust treatment of others or athletes that ruled the school. She started Moxie after finding her mom‘s Riot Grrls stuff… my favorite girl band(s) when I was a teen were 7 Year B!tch & Liz Phair. I related to this story, my misspent youth is many years past but now have found my voice. It‘s a bit different from the movie. #bookspin

I finished this earlier in the week. It‘s a good read, a story of ‘normal‘ (stay-out-of-trouble, not politically active) girls empowering each other to stand up to the toxic, misogynistic culture of their school.

My one criticism, I suppose (as a non-parent, not involved in the school system) was that the culture described seemed a little over the top, almost unrealistic.

Then yesterday OFSTED (UKs inspectorate of schools) released a report into

rockpools sexual harassment in UK schools, which basically says ‘it‘s way worse than we/you think‘, harassment is normalised, girls feel there‘s no point reporting it...

I feel suitably chastised and educated, and incredibly sad.

This was my #artsyfartsy book for #BBRC @LibrarianRyan @Sarahreadstoomuch

Soooo good!!! This book was a real page turner. Vivian lives in a small town in Texas, population 6,000, and she is fed up with football team getting special treatment. She‘s fed up with the principal‘s son wearing gross T-shirts and having no consequences. She‘s sick of the bump ‘n‘ grab game the boys play. And she‘s sick of the random dress code checks. I loved every second of this book. Cant wait to watch the movie now! 5⭐️

This audio book was fantastic! I love reading a book about girl power and the characters being really sure of themselves. I enjoyed the main protagonist and the agenda she had set out to change the school setting and what females have to deal with due to the football team being all mighty and powerful. I love the message this book sent and females sticking together. Oh and excited to watch the Netflix show now!!!

I wasn't prepared for how much I really enjoyed this empowering page-turner. I'm always on board for a smart, well written YA novel about budding feminists fighting back against toxic rape culture. Gimme. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I thought it would have been more realistic if there had been some parental involvement in that high school horror show. (Also, some law enforcement would have been nice.)

TrishB Just watched the film with my daughter last night (we‘ve both read the book!) it was a good adaptation, we really enjoyed it 👍🏻 3y

Being a young adult librarian aide, I can‘t stress enough in how much we need these types of books, especially in the YA genre. Books that encourage girls/ women to find their voice, and take a stand against sexism and rape culture. Reminders that women CAN take up space, and your voice matters- It is powerful, and has the ability to make changes. This book is a CRUCIAL read that needs to be discussed in academia. 📚⬇️

Emily92Bibliophile One of the things I loved about this book was Seth and Viv‘s relationship. This is one of THE healthiest Teen relationships I‘ve seen in YA and I am HERE for it. Even if they argue and unintentionally hurt they other, they are willing to talk it out, and strive to do better in the future. (edited) 3y
Emily92Bibliophile I also love how Seth is a very understanding person, and while he doesn‘t at first understand the reality of the sexism within their school due to never experiencing it , * he listens and learns*. Yes, he makes mistakes, and slips up when negating the sexual assault experiences , but * he listens and learns*. He seems to be a very good guy who is intent on learning more about other people‘s experiences.

Littens are, by and large, a generous bunch! Over my years on Litsy, I've received quite a number of excellent reads thanks to this generosity. I've read many, but have equally as many that I haven't gotten to yet. So, as part two of my #YearofReadingLitsy challenge I resolve to read at least one book each month that I've received from an awesome Litten 👊

“Moxie” analyzes how adolescents create their voice and identities when small minds have power. The main character Vivian‘s voice—at first quietly, but louder as she evolves—emerges through her desire to confront the sexism at her school. Mathieu recognizes that change for individuals and a community is not always easy, but the first small steps are important. Read it for the female empowerment and the references to the 90s‘ Riot Grrrls!

I flew through this one! Overall, a really good book that teenagers will love. A nice intro to feminism for teens. It was, however, a bit cliched. I found the depiction of the teachers a bit annoying and unrealistic. I don‘t think anyone who works in education can really be that clueless. Well, not all of them at least!
