While I loved the end of this book & how the story across the trilogy wrapped up, for most of this book I wasn‘t super interested in the story.
That being said, seeing where she started & where she ended up just continues to cement to me the power of Jemisin & her work.

1/10 weeks of chaplain internship done, and I've made a solid dent in this #audiobook on my long commute! It's the perfect audiobook to lose myself in on my drive to and from the hospital. Wonderful world-building and a wonderful installment in the trilogy. So good to finally return to it now after starting it in January! #audiocommute

The last book in this trilogy. First, I was so happy to see Sieh get his own book. Then about halfway through I wasn‘t sure where she was headed and ugh, what if I hate it. Then the finale, I never should have doubted at all. I honestly wasn‘t sure for awhile, but I loved it in the end, and how it brought so many plot lines to their conclusion (even En and Ahad). Jemisin‘s world building is still uniquely unparalleled.

GreenGrl87 Right!! OMG SAME!! This is the exact cycle my emotions went through but man, oh man that ending!! And just *deep sigh* everything really, when it all came together! I‘m reading The Awakened Kingdom now, but very slowly because I‘m not ready to close the door on this world yet. 🥺 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GreenGrl87 I‘m glad it wasn‘t just me! I‘m going to start that one tonight, and I doubt I‘ll be able to drag it out. There is also a short book of short stories set in this world so I have that to look forward to yet. 3y
See All 9 Comments
GreenGrl87 I read all of those too, they kind of fit between the main three, but also are just as good at the end I would think. For me, this one really is the last of it them, and I‘m just not ready yet. 3y
GreenGrl87 It was such a roller coaster though because at first I was like, yes! More Sieh, he‘s my favorite! But then I was like, well this is rather disappointing... but then I was like whoa! Never should‘ve doubted!! 🙌🏽 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GreenGrl87 That‘s exactly how I felt too. And it‘s a hard one to review without giving anything away. 3y
GreenGrl87 Well, I‘m super glad you did! It‘s definitely one I finished and felt like ‘I need to talk about this book with someone!!‘ but I didn‘t know anyone else who‘d read it recently (or at all). 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GreenGrl87 A great bookish coincidence, serendipity was working for us. 3y

Although the second book is probably my favorite in the series, and Sieh did frustrate me at times as the narrator in this book, I still loved it. 💚

Great conclusion with some twists and turns and plenty more of Jemisin's excellent world building and mythology.

Count me in! 🙋‍♀️ I won't manage 20 hours of reading, but this will inspire me to maybe squeeze in a couple last #AuthorAMonth reads, such as the tagged! Friday I have the last day of an intensive class for seminary, Saturday is my last day with family in NC for a long time, Sunday I'll be traveling all day back to CA, and Monday is my birthday + first day of the spring semester. I'll try to read on the airplanes at least. 😂 #20in4 @Andrew65

This was a slog. The ending was excellent, really wrapped up the series in a big way. And Jemisin is still an autobuy for me! But I didn't love this one, I just never really got into it the way I did with the other two.

I‘ve been hard at work this past week, #audiosewing a formal face mask for a friend. It‘s got some embroidered and beaded elements that make it a lot more time consuming than the everyday ones I usually make, and the covered elastic earpieces she wants gave me a lot of grief today. Still, I like how it‘s coming together.

I finished rereading THE KINGDOM OF GODS while I wrestled with those earpieces. This series is great, y‘all. I love it so.

I finished my first Jemisin trilogy and now I just need to decide which one of hers will be next. I loved being swept into this fantastical world. I really enjoy her writing. While this was not my favorite of the 3 in this series, it was still great. Sieh is such an amazing character and his relationships with Shahar and Deka as well as Itempas, Naha, and Yiene are so dynamic. So... Broken Earth or The Killing Moon next?

Lesanne I personally liked the Broken Earth series better but they‘re both really good! 4y

Read the whole trilogy in a very short time and will likely now have a book hangover. I think the first book was my favorite, I didn‘t love the third book nearly so much, though I think it was much more mature and reflective. This series, above all, is about loneliness and finding your people. And realizing m your people are not always who you would expect them to be and are not always deserving of your love, but having hope for them, anyway.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Love Jemisin. I still need to read the last book, must bump it up the tbr. 4y

Finally finished the end of the Inheritance Trilogy. This was not my favorite of the three. The beginning and middle really dragged for me and I just wasn‘t a fan of Sieh and the twins. I still loved the world building and all the godlings and politics. The last half of the book was pretty amazing and conjured an amazing mental picture. I defiantly look forward to reading more of N.K books😊

I liked the first two books of this trilogy better. This one felt disjointed and jumped around a lot... But maybe that feeling reflects my reading pattern. I didn't feel like there was enough time spent with the main characters and I mostly felt perplexed in a bored way instead of in the curious way that Jemisin's writing usually provokes.

This week was not great for my goals because I am on vacation, but I knew that would probably be the case. But I am having tons of fun so I'm not worried 😁 I decided to add a pic of me visiting Meow Wolf in Santa Fe since that's what I was doing instead of working out yesterday.

Goals:
Books - this week 3 ( 23 of 20 overall)
Workouts - 2 of 4

A disappointing end to this series for me—the synopsis only matches up with like, a third of the plot at most, for one thing. The rest of it felt so slow & confusing. Couldn‘t wrap my head around the whole Gods-love-triangle (square?) thing & felt lost much of the time. Much of the action seemed to take place off screen, so to speak. And honestly, Sieh just grated on me. Still gonna read her other series tho! Have heard it‘s much stronger. 2/5 ⭐️

Litsy, help me out!!! If any of you have this book in paperback with ISBN 978-0-316-04393-9, do the first three pages of the glossary in the back have this writing all over them??? I literally cannot tell if this is meant to be there or not??! Especially because it‘s kinda nasty. If it is part of the book, why is it only on part of the glossary and not all of it? Please someone tell me if your copy has this in it, too!

alisonrose Okay so I remembered Google exists and apparently this is part of the book! It‘s supposed to be Sieh‘s like....annotations? And apparently the author had to tell people over and over because everyone thought their book had been defaced. Too clever by half, I guess 😕 5y

After thoroughly enjoying books 1 and 2 in the trilogy, this one just bored me to tears. Unlikable characters, not enough action, and way too many pages. It would have been better with 150 pages of MC whining cut out. Nevertheless, Jemisin is masterful and talented in the other books. I will definitely read her again. After I forgive her for this less-than-stellar book.

#RiotGrams Day 5: A lot of #Royalty in this Inheritance Trilogy by N. K. Jemisin. Read all the novels while I was in Munich last year. While I enjoyed the world building, the alternative portrayals of gods, #royalty and mortals - it did not leave as solid an impression as her Broken Earth series, at least for me. But still exquisitely written - wouldn‘t want to be in this woman‘s head for a long time.

I finally finished something! I've been going through a pretty epic slump with moving and general life distractions. I'm hoping I am getting back on track now. This was good but I didn't actually enjoy it as much as the other two (the second was my favorite).
