#bookreport @Cinfhen

Continued Count
Finished Women Could Fly, Man Behind Narnia and Malibu Rising
Started The Darkness and Jonathan Swift The Reluctant Rebel

@CBee there's a tiny bit of yellow in the lamp on The Man Behind Narnia, so I'm counting that for #tbrtarot as I'm not going to get to the one planned! 😂

BethM Oooh how was man behind narnia? 2y
jenniferw88 @BethM not great. More about AN Wilson rather than CS Lewis. 2y
Cinfhen BUSY WEEK!! thanks for checking in 😘 2y
CBee @jenniferw88 actually there are a couple other books with yellow there! You‘re good 😊😊 2y

Two classic chunksters sitting on the shelf …. Maybe 2022 will be their year? I‘ve had a real aversion to getting into a long book relationship in 2021.

JamieArc I decided this was the year I was going to attempt A Suitable Boy (over 1400 pages). It is going to take me until the end of the year. I‘m enjoying it okay, though it‘s not a page turner. I may have to take a break from chunksters after that! 3y
Twainy Penguin clothbound classics. NICE! 3y
vlwelser I'm working on Hunchback right now. It's a challenge. 3y
Eggs Great choice 👏🏻📚🤗 3y
Deblovestoread @JamieArc I started that one years ago and set it aside…can‘t remember why…one day I may pick it up and start over. Let me know your final thoughts 😊 3y

Wife WoooHoooo!!!🌹🌹🌹I will tackle this someday. 4y
BookNAround @Amiable I did like it. It was fascinating to watch the Count play the long game in getting his revenge. He was a bit like a spider in his web and reeling in those who wronged him. 4y

I‘m currently at my parents (they had their 2nd vaccine 2 weeks ago) so I could consult with their eye surgeon about getting lens implants. I only brought The Count with me to read down here but forgot that meant hauling this chunkster to the Dr. She totally poked fun at me and asked if I could‘ve found a bigger book and if I was using it to do curls. But I read a fair bit before the dilating drops made reading impossible.👇🏻

BookNAround Now I have less than 500 pages to go. Woohoo! #chunksterchallenge @Amiable (edited) 4y
Suet624 Impressive!!! 4y
Copwithabook I‘m pretty sure I read that in high school (by choice if you can believe it), and I don‘t remember it being that long. Also, little known fact- it‘s my favorite book to movie adaptation. 4y

It's not romantic in the traditional sense but the final installment of our three-part Count of Monte Cristo episode is up. We discuss the 2002 movie and wonder why there hasn't been an unabridged Netflix version. Enjoy and Happy Valentine's Day!

Day 12 #Farewell

“And now,' said the unknown, 'farewell kindness, humanity, and gratitude! Farewell to all the feelings that expand the heart! I have been heaven's substitute to recompense the good - now the god of vengeance yields to me his power to punish the wicked!”

New episode is out! Part 2 of our 3 part deep dive into The Count of Monte Cristo. We break down the elaborate revenge plots, discuss whether the book counts as “serious literature“ and make a somewhat surprising connection to I Know What You Did Last Summer. Enjoy!

I‘m going in. If I don‘t resurface, send help. (Just kidding! This is my #chunksterchallenge read so I‘ll be doing a slow and steady read of it.) My husband saw it sitting on the counter, did a double take, and said “That is one big book. Are you reading it of your own free will?” 😂😂😂

zezeki I've read first three chapters and I'm really liking it so far! I'm also reading it as a part of #chunksterchallenge. 4y
mom2bugnbee I'm in on the Monte Cristo #chunksterchallenge also! I'm about 10% in & love it! 4y
Gissy Ok, let me start this one today 4y
Foragingfantasy I really need to read this one! 4y
LeahBergen I found it read remarkably quickly, actually. I was surprised. 😊 4y

Because I tend to obsessively over plan until I just give up, I tabbed where I need to be at the end of each day to meet my goals this month. I got a late start in the tagged book and am supposed to reach the first green tab by the end of today. I‘m at the bookmark. It‘s almost 5 pm. Yeah...not gonna happen. 🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

readordierachel That may be the biggest book I've ever seen 😮 4y
DGRachel @readordierachel It‘s pretty hefty. A little over 1300 pages. 4y
Gissy I‘m trying too. I‘m three days late but I have spent the weekend cleaning which I normally do on week days but things happen, so it was a poor reading time this weekend. 4y

mom2bugnbee That's awesome! I'm reading this chunkster also, but mines digital, so I don't have the visual that you do. ☺ 4y
MsMelissa I‘m starting to question if I read an abridged version. I‘m looking at my copy on a shelf and it‘s nowhere near that big! 4y
AlaMich I wish I could read it again for the first time. 😊 4y
DGRachel @Book_Fiend_Melissa I thought I read the unabridged version 20 years ago, but people were talking about the book a couple years ago and kept saying how big it was and I just kept thinking “it was long, but not that long” and discovered I actually had an abridged copy. I was horrified. I searched for an unabridged copy and meant to read it last year, but didn‘t get to it. 4y
DGRachel @AlaMich I didn‘t realize I was reading an abridged version the first time, so this will be like reading it for the first time. I‘m excited. ☺️ 4y
AlaMich I read the unabridged Penguin edition, which has a (relatively) newer translation. I thought it was very accessible and readable. 4y
MsMelissa I just had a look at my copy. It‘s a 500 page mass market pb. The font is very small, but there is no way it‘s not abridged despite there being no indication on the front or back covers, spine, or publisher info page that it‘s not the full tome. I feel robbed. 4y
zezeki I'm reading this as a part of #chunksterchallenge2021, I'll have about three months to finish. 4y
DGRachel @AlaMich It sounds like you read the same one I have now. ☺️ I‘m enjoying it. 4y
DGRachel @Book_Fiend_Melissa That‘s exactly how I felt. I don‘t have the old edition anymore, but I remember searching for the phrase “abridged” and it was hidden in tiny text somewhere totally weird. 4y
DGRachel @zezeki I have a Goodreads page goal I really want to meet this year and to do it, I need to read 4200 pages/month. I may be able to stretch this book out more than a week, but I was trying to not have a bunch of books going at the same time. Obviously, I won‘t get it done in 9 days like I had hoped. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
Annie1215 I did the same sort of planning with the audiobook. It was quite an undertaking lol 4y
zezeki That's quite ambitious, good luck!! 💪🏼 4y
Lcsmcat @DGRachel How did you set a page goal? I wanted to do it that way rather than number of books but didn‘t think you could. 4y
DGRachel @Lcsmcat I didn‘t set it on Goodreads. I keep a separate reading tracker spreadsheet. For Goodreads, I decided on my page goal and divided that number by the average length of books I read in 2020 to come up with a number of books for Goodreads. 4y
Lcsmcat @DGRachel oh, OK. 4y

I have a couple chunksters in my TBR that I‘ve never gotten into. So I just created another IRL bookclub in Singapore. We will read 2 doorstoppers a year 😆 The first candidate is the tagged book, date is not yet set (most likely Spring 2020)

Amiable I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It was very good! 5y
erzascarletbookgasm 👍 great initiative! Wish I‘m in Singapore!🙂 5y
BookNAround This is one I‘ve always wanted to read I put it on my bedside table to keep it in the forefront of my brain it it‘s gotten buried without me ever opening it. 🤪 5y

Lizpixie I think there‘s plans for a year long Readathon to read all the chunksters on your TBR. I can‘t remember who‘s organising it but someone on here will know🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
TheSpineView @Lizpixie You are right. It is hosted by @TheReadingMermaid I plan to tackle a few of my clunkers next year. 5y
BeansPage Yes!!! We are going to have a Year of the Chunksters! It's going to be great and everyone is invited to join in! 😃 5y
sisilia @Amiable I‘m so glad you loved it 🤩 Looking forward to it! 5y

Did a little thrift shopping today and one of our local stores needed to liquidate to make room for a furniture delivery so everything was free!
Wasn't much left by the time I got there but I can't say no to some old books.

Leftcoastzen I would have grabbed those!😁 5y

Every summer I pick a big beast of a book that I aim to finish by Labour Day. This one clocks in at over 1000 pages so I think I will start it this weekend. I‘ve never heard a bad thing about this book so I am really looking forward to it. 🥰

Kaye This is so good. , beautiful cover also. 5y
BarbaraJean This has been on my TBR for so long—hoping to tackle it next year! The Hunchback of Notre Dame is my big classic chunkster this year. 😊 5y
