Complete Tales of Winnie-The-Pooh
Complete Tales of Winnie-The-Pooh | A A Milne
53 posts | 46 read | 9 to read
In 1926, "Winnie-the-Pooh, " a collection of stories about a rather stout, somewhat confused bear, was published in England and America. The enchanting tales of Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin, and the others were an immediate success, and firmly established A.A. Milne, already an acclaimed dramatist, as a major author of children's books. "Winnie-the-Pooh" was followed in 1928 by a second collection, "The House At Pooh Corner, " which continued the adventures from the Hundred Acre Wood and introduced bouncy, lovable Tigger.

#OnThisDay in 1926 A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh was first published. Inspired by Milne's son Christopher Robin and a female black bear from Canada, the book was an immediate success. Christopher Robin Milne's original stuffies which inspired Pooh and his friends were donated in 1987 to the New York Public Library. After the real Winnie passed, they found evidence of severe gum disease, likely from the honey buns fed to her by fans #HistoryGetsLIT

LeahBergen Love this! And I made a point of seeing the originals at the NYPL when I visited. ❤️❤️ 2y
CarolynM ❤️ I love the stories, but knowing how the real Christopher Robin felt casts quite a shadow. (edited) 2y
Aimeesue @LeahBergen Me too! First stop after Patience and Fortitude ❤️ I also stumbled on to a first edition of The House on Pooh Corner last year, which, obviously, I threw my arms around and refused to let go of. As one does with these things. 2y

Ummmm, anyone remember that Christopher Robin SHOT Winnie the Pooh with GUN?!!! I am listening to the fireside chat version (which reads from an unabridged version of the book) and OMG!!! I remember in the animated show it was a sling shot...wasn't it?

Pooh has a rifle when he is scared of the huffalumps, but I don't remember CR EVER SHOOTING POOH with a GUN?

Anyone else? Am I just blanking out a big part of my childhood????

MoonWitch94 I remember in the original cartoon movies it was like a toy pop gun….but that‘s all. 😯 2y
LibrarianRyan @MoonWitch94 okay that would make sense. But that isn't clarified in the book. 2y

Oh my gosh, I hadn't read these stories in years and had forgotten how completely delightful they are. I absolutely love the whimsical storytelling and characters. And it also reminded me that while Disney usually butchers everything they touch, they got their original Winnie-the-Pooh just right.

I loved Pooh as a kid and now even more as a parent. I know my mom read the stories and poems to us, but I‘ve never read them myself. It was fun to see what was used in the movie, and how the characters changed. I have to say, especially in The House at Pooh Corner, Eeyore‘s kind of a jerk, which bothered me. Still, I‘m looking forward to sharing these with kiddo. I was disappointed to see my copy didn‘t include the poetry books.

The elements of fantasy in this book are represented through animals having human like qualities. In real life animals aren‘t capable of showing an intense amount of emotion for one another. The author did a good job of making the story believable because they are in the woods working together as friends.

Melissa_J Do you know the origins of Winnie the Pooh? He‘s based on a black bear named Winnipeg ‘Winnie‘ after the hometown of the Canadian soldier who brought him to England during WWI as his regiments mascot. When the regiment shipped out, Winnie went to London Zoo where he was visited by A.A. Milne and Christopher Robin. This rest is history 😊 (edited) 7y

Day 23 #riotgrams : I don't remember *not* having these books. I suspect that the two fairy tale books are truly the oldest. The Alice book is the only one dated—when I was 5. I dislike fairy tales, but keep the books for their sentimental value. #bookyouveownedlongest
