Well, I finally did it! My first complete audio read by the indomitable Tim Curry. I chose this book because I know it so well and reread it every year. This time, I let Mr. Curry tell the tale, and he certainly did not disappoint! I cleaned the entire house while listening, and I didn't want it to end. We all know what a gem this story is, so it needs to be placed in the voice of an expert orator. Well done, Mr. Curry; a “whoop“ to you, too!

Got a very old (as in from the year of publishing, although from a German publisher) copy of A Christmas Carol for my birthday!

A personal favourite, and the centrepiece of my literature collection, Charles Dickens‘ A Christmas Carol is the ultimate holiday story of redemption. Ebenezer Scrooge is a stingy old miser who can‘t stand holiday cheer—or people altogether. One Christmas Eve, he‘s visited by three spirits who take him on a journey through his past, present, and future. Along the way, Scrooge is forced to confront the impact of his choices and make a change.

“Business!” Cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. “Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”

I‘ve read this every December for the last 5-6. The above quote especially struck me this year as something we should all remember.

Read this at the beginning of this month but forgot to post (well listened to it - Hugh Grant narration). Need to rewatch rhe Muppets soon :) #DecemberRitual

I have to admit, I have never READ A Christmas Carol. Of course, I‘ve seen several movie adaptations (The Muppet version is the best version and nobody can tell me otherwise). Finally sitting down to read this story, I can see how it has become such a beloved classic. Also, I had no idea that it was such a short read!

3 that I didn't enjoy/like: A Christmas Story, Snowmance, The Mistle-Tones (to be fair most of these are not the best)

3 that should have been: Scrooge (2022) it's more aimed at kids, but it's so unique. Jingle All The Way, that one is fun. Hot Frosty is a classic at this point.

1) Now-Little Christmas Eve, a tradition husband brought from Norway where we open one gift each 2 nights before Christmas

Then-as a kid we opened gifts on Christmas Eve (& still do). For Santa to have time to visit we went out to eat dinner. Mom @Doll8455 would “forget” her purse, run in the house, set out Santa gifts, and take bites from the cookies. Eventually we figured it out. ⬇️

One #holidaytradition I have is rereading/listening to this classic every year. I love it so much! An uplifting message that it‘s never too late to turn things around!

The one book that always makes me think of winter and the holidays. 💙❄️💙

I actually really am super looking forward to reading the Dickens classic on stream again this year. It was so much fun last year and made me realize that I'd been made to read Dickens wrong - read him aloud, to listeners. What was always a slog became a joy. I haven't decided if I'll try reading Dickens' own presentation version. Illustration of Fezziwig's Ball by John Leech.

It was quite enjoyable to read this book again for my book club.
Very well written, it's a Christmas classic, the discussion we had was very interesting ;)
Loved the illustrations by Arthur Rackham.

Outside of Halloween, “scary ghost stories and tales of the glories” have also been a part of Christmas celebrations for certain cultures for centuries.

He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!

As we come to the close of another year, never forget the true meaning of the holiday season: the uber wealthy getting scared into becoming compassionate & empathetic human beings.

Listening to 5 productions of this was an absolute delight. Curry brings the spookiness, Stewart a gravitas, Grant reminds me of listening to my grandfather read me stories, Dale is always a joy to listen to, & Burton is everything my reading 🌈heart needs. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

It is astonishing to me that I never have read A Christmas Carol. It is an excellent story and Tim Curry‘s narration is marvelous!

Giving this one a shot as a Christmas read.

I read A Christmas Carol every year. This particular edition has the original illustrations; unfortunately, they are difficult to see in this ebook edition which isn‘t formatted that great. I also finished The Wishing Bridge and listened to Letters From Father Christmas, which is better as either a print book or an ebook because of the illustrations. I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. Starting Death and Papa Noel.

Merry Christmas friends! This year I listened to this audio version of A Christmas Carol. I enjoyed it because I do love this story, but this won‘t become a favorite version. It sounds a bit odd to say, but I think I find Hugh Grant‘s voice too pleasant for most of this story. I like it better with a deeper or gruffer voice.

1. Ugh—this is hard! It‘s a tie between A Christmas Story and A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version!).
2. All I want for Christmas is a good time for a party with friends in the city.

Straight up, these three are my favorite versions of A Christmas Carol and I've consumed them all in the last 24 hours. Tim Curry's narration is unbeatable but Hugh Grant has his moments. And for pure, sweet nostalgia (with a dash of childhood terror, because my GOD, I should not have watched a cartoon character descend into a fiery grave at the age of 4!), I'm going for Mickey every time.
