#bookreport/weeklyupdate
How to tell I‘ve been off work…..most of the week anyway.
Julia was a low pick.
The Missing Ones- new detective series 👍🏻
Water- brilliantly written, look forward to the next one.
Amy & Lan- good light read.
Murder- fun, true crime like novel.
Just started beyond that, the sea.

I have no doubt work will massively impact this week‘s reading.

rockpools I loved Water. Somehow I hadn‘t got round to reading Boyne before - feel like I might have a bit to catch up on. Happy Weekend, Trish! 3mo
TrishB @rockpools that one is definitely a good start! My all time favourite is The Absolutist. Have a lovely weekend 😘 3mo
Crazeedi Beyond That was a really lovely book, definitely liked a lot 3mo

I‘ve reviewed almost all of these! 🎉 Five-Star Weekend was a 5⭐️ book, and Games and Eden both received high marks from me, too. (I just finished Games. Review soon!)

Awe, Owl, and Lies were all enjoyable! Passing for Human, a graphic memoir, was such a personal story, and I enjoyed it…I think…but I‘m totally unsure how to review, so I probably won‘t.

Brides and Glow were just okay. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #BookReport

Cinfhen Love your book report 😍A+ for style and content 😉 9mo

I have reviewed every book in this #BookReport! First time I can say that in months! Some weeks you just have it together, so that was a really nice change. Favorites on top. I enjoyed the ones in the middle as well. Two on the bottom were just okay.

🤞🏻 for another good week next week! I‘m reading a short story collection (Days of Awe by AM Homes) and started a #roll100 audiobook (Lies I Tell by Julie Clark). Hoping for another Le Guin too!

Cinfhen Fa. Bu. Lous 🙌🏻🤩😘 9mo

Everything was a pick this week, but some were more enthusiastic than others. My favorites were Messy Roots, a graphic memoir from a Gen Z Wuhanese immigrant that covered her childhood plus the effect Covid and Asian hate crimes had on her, and Con Queen, 💯 bingeable true crime about a person who impersonated major Hollywood producers.

Looking forward to Birnam discussions starting next Saturday at #CampLitsy23. More #BookReport ⬇️

Megabooks Count me as another Celebrants fan! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I do wish he‘d get a professional VO artist for the audiobook though. Kinda hard to follow. Whispers I enjoyed more than The Push. Excited to see whether others feel the same. I dig non-linear, multiple narrator thrillers. If you loved Pachinko, read Hula. Multi-generational Hawaiian saga that blends excellent storytelling with Hawaiian culture and history. ⬇️ (edited) 10mo
Megabooks My first #AuthorAMonth I‘ll tag. (Thank you Soubhi!) It was good eco science fiction, but I really would‘ve loved a female character. It was early 70s SciFi, so not surprising there wasn‘t one. Note was interesting essays from a music editor at the New Yorker about artists at the end of their careers. Think Springsteen, McCartney, and Aretha Franklin. Chouette was wild! A very inventive way to write about parenting a disabled child. #bookspin (edited) 10mo
Cinfhen Fantastic week!!! Definitely adding some of these titles to my TBR 😍 10mo

TrishB Hula looks good - but another one that‘s really expensive here at the moment so will wait for an offer. 10mo
Megabooks @TrishB it‘s so strange how books are priced. I hope you‘re able to find a deal because it was quite good! 10mo

Really good reading week except for The Guest, which is my new worst book of the year! 1⭐️ is generous. 🙄 Read @Hooked_on_books review.

On the great side is Burgess, a wonderful gift from @BarbaraBB 😘 Strout is just wonderful! The book about the Shakurs blew my mind. A part of Black liberation history I knew little about. I was afraid Unfortunates would skew YA, but the mix of zine-style visual arts and heavy emotional topics work for me. ⬇️

BarbaraBB Such a good reading book! And I am glad you confirmed my expectations of the Cline 😇 10mo
Megabooks Vacationland was fun 🧠🍭, and I love books set in Maine. I was once again glad to read @Hooked_on_books review of Late Americans because you can tell it‘s reformatted earlier works. It was good but just didn‘t knock me over with excellence like I expected. #borrownotbuy Crooked was interesting narrative nonfiction about President Harding‘s corrupt attorney general and the freshman senator that took him on. ⬇️ (edited) 10mo
Megabooks Three Rooms I just didn‘t get, and Eels was fine, but nothing I‘ll remember in a week. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 10mo
See All 17 Comments
Megabooks @BarbaraBB avoid it!! The blurb sounded okay, and I enjoyed her short story collection, but it was terrible! Paper thin plot, characters that I don‘t care about, etc. 👎👎👎 read Holly‘s review of the Taylor if you haven‘t. 10mo
squirrelbrain Great wrap-up, as ever! 10mo
Megabooks @squirrelbrain thanks friend! 💜😁 10mo
squirrelbrain Also, I‘m glad The Guest didn‘t make it any higher up the #camplitsy list! 😬 10mo
TrishB I‘ve not been tempted by the Cline one. Seems to be getting a lot of hype! 10mo
Vansa Do elaborate on your bad review for The guest 😀 10mo
sarahbarnes Interesting news about The Guest! I was intrigued by the premise. 10mo
Cinfhen The Cline was fine but won‘t be making my best lists/ I definitely read worse this year 10mo
Megabooks @squirrelbrain me too!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 10mo
Megabooks @TrishB her books tend to, but I was really unimpressed by The Girls too. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 10mo
Megabooks @Vansa there was basically no plot. The characters lacked depth. The situations she put the MC in were dull and predictable. Just truly bad. 10mo
Megabooks @sarahbarnes me too, but I ended up being very glad it was a library book! 10mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen I just hated it! Obvi! 🙄😂😂 10mo
Vansa @Megabooks thanks for that very succinct review! Won't buy into the hype and read it then! 10mo

I lost a friend this week and just got back from the funeral. It was a beautiful service but also sad.

Hostile was funny and refreshing! Love Sam! Sorry was a great story about siblings and parents and love and codependency. Mother is relatable to any daughter who didn‘t appreciate her mom enough growing up. Weyward was a challenging but heartwarming witchy read about the bonds of women in families and how we protect each other. ⬇️ #BookReport

BookNAround I‘m sorry for your loss. 10mo
Megabooks Ascension reminded me a bit of Lost. People gather to explore a mountain that suddenly appears in the Pacific Ocean. Grapples with theology and loss too. Ate has a lot of mixed reviews, but I enjoyed reading about these women‘s relationships to food. The chapter of Barbara Pym was delightful! Homesickness was a good Irish story collection. End was a memoir from a queer ex-Jehovah‘s Witness. Smart in the way he addressed contradictions! ⬇️ (edited) 10mo

Megabooks ⬆️ #UnpopularOpinion on Moon. I felt like chatgpt wrote it. It was dull for long stretches and I barely connected with the characters. Chain Gang was another I didn‘t connect with until the very end. Disappointed. Red Pill was the worst navel gazing coastal liberal stuff. Idk how people were so surprised about the rise of American fascism because if the author had lived where I do, he wouldn‘t have been so shocked. (edited) 10mo

Megabooks @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB yes, I wish we had had more time too. The minister even said at the funeral that he though and she thought she would live in the hospice facility for a few weeks, but it was just days. She went peacefully and wasn‘t in pain so that‘s good. And she got the weekend at home with her cat that she desperately wanted. And her hairdresser took her cat, so knowing she had a good home gave M peace of mind. 10mo

Someone was kind enough to write my memoir, and I‘ve included it in this #BookReport! 😂 Maybe it‘s yours too? 😏

Love Songs was fantastic. Reviewed and great if you love stories about families! Devil is my favorite of the three I‘ve read for #AuthorAMonth, but the two stories were a bit disjointed. Paved: wow! A revelation! I had no idea that parking shaped so much of the post-WWII building in America! Why we don‘t have ⬇️

Megabooks affordable housing in many cities, and how parking requirements are creating a lot of waste in the cost of construction. Fascinating!! Dinner Party was a great short story collection. Consistently good with lots of surprises and twists! If you like New Yorker short stories, read this. ⬇️ (edited) 11mo
SamAnne I really want to read the book on parking! Heard an interview with the author on Fresh Air last week. 11mo
Megabooks Good Girls was an interesting book about anorexia, but the author was still a bit tied up in her own experiences for the sociology to be objective. Decent memoir though. Azadi was a #roll100 and fascinating to learn about fascism in India. Very scary things happening there! The menopause book had good advice, but was rather forgettable. Read this instead. 11mo

Another week another late #BookReport! 😂 Chrysalis: review posted - loved it! Oak Flat had beautiful art! The landscapes looked organic and alive and just leapt off the page. Homegrown: Toobin does it again! One of the best narrative nonfictions this year. It‘s about McVeigh, the OKC bombing and the legacy it holds in the alt right and even mainstream right today.

Traffic: interesting about Buzzfeed and Gawker‘s strategies for going viral and ⬇️

Megabooks how they shaped the internet and social media. Pornography was fascinating and gave me a lot to think about in regards to the business side of the industry, treatment of performers, etc. She was careful to look at it from both pro- and anti-porn sides as well as the industry as a whole. This has been out since last year but is new to audio. 11mo
Megabooks Game wasn‘t what I expected and ended quickly and abruptly. Thriller about a survival in the wilderness TV show. The Larson I reviewed. Wasn‘t my fave. The Cruz: great idea. Looking at the recession from the perspective for an older immigrant woman who lost her job. Liked the epistolary elements BUT a pet peeve: most of the book is supposed to be an interview, but they never gave the interviewer dialogue so it‘s just rambling…👎 11mo
BarbaraBB At least you had a great reading week 🩵! love your reviews! 11mo

Megabooks I went to bed at like 9:30 so I‘ve been up since 4. Stomach pain is really bothering me in the night. I can hardly wear pants anymore. ☹️ I‘m in a men‘s XL now and they feel uncomfortable. Still no idea what‘s wrong. Also, I can sit in a recliner or lie down in bed or stand, but sitting in a normal chair is awful. Really curious if they find anything on the test in June. It just doesn‘t make sense. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ forgot to tag @Cinfhen (edited) 11mo
BarbaraBB Oh Meg that sounds tough. I wish someone could finally clear up what‘s happening. The waiting and not knowing is killing. Do you have elderly support now for your parents? Thinking of you 🩷 11mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB thanks B 💜💜 it‘s just really weird. I‘m hoping things calm down. No help yet. I‘m going to push mom on it a bit more though. The problem is our need is irregular times and people who work want regular hours. 🤔 11mo

Megabooks @AmyG thanks so much 💜 it‘s just been a really frustrating, painful time. ☹️ 11mo

So this is the #BookReport I would‘ve posted last week had I not been in the hospital. 😂 Three #BookspinBingos in April! 👍🏻

The Wager was a great adventure narrative nonfiction pick and one I‘ll relisten to with my dad. Unsettled was haunting and makes me excited for Fuller‘s latest at Camp Litsy in August! Liars blended science, nature and sociology well and linked human behavior with evolutionary tactics. ⬇️

Megabooks Love Medicine was not my favorite Erdrich, but I‘ll probably continue the series. The banana book (tagged) was for #roll100 and was the kind of history book I enjoy. I was not a fan of the Stradal. I think I just don‘t like his books. 🤷🏻‍♀️ End of the World House was fun but forgettable. 11mo
Megabooks Golden Child was my #LMPBC pick, and it was a like not love. Otherwise 🤐 I keep meaning to use it for my #titlesandtunes too! 11mo

A bit of a late #BookReport because I was very sick Sun-Tues. These are just what I read through Sun.

Old Flame was exceptional! It took on adoption, friendship, creativity, and motherhood just beautifully! I wanted it for #CampLitsy23, but there isn‘t a UK pub date. ☹️ JBLAH took on disability in the gay community with humor and heart. Pathogenesis is a must read for medical history and anthropology nerds. 🙋🏻‍♀️ more ⬇️

Megabooks Benediction wasn‘t as impressive as the rest of the Plainsong trilogy. The Last Animal was not out in the UK in time for CL, and the scientific parts were way off base, but read as a story of family and grief, it was good! Cabin 10 is my third and last Ware read for #authoramonth, and I enjoyed it! Koresh is the best of the three Waco books I‘ve read that came out this year, but at 14 hours, it‘s also the longest! More of a bio than others. 11mo
Megabooks Without Children was an interesting topic (about women who are not mothers, like me) but completely forgettable book. Upstairs was also forgettable. Survivors belongs on the row above but there was no room. It‘s one of the better Miranda books, and I liked the narration! 👍🏻👍🏻 (edited) 11mo

Megabooks @AmyG fantastic!! I hope you enjoy it. 11mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! There was a single cube of chicken in my vegetarian Chipotle, and I swallowed a bit and got very sick. I was shaking and weak and lost a couple of pounds, but fortunately it was only that little bit. So I guess I still can‘t eat meat. 🤷🏻‍♀️☹️ 11mo
Megabooks @Deblovestoread thanks! I‘ve really enjoyed snapping pics in the yard this spring and loved the drama of that night! 11mo
Megabooks @LeahBergen it was the best of the Waco books this year. I felt he did a better job of getting in Koresh‘s head rather than just the dynamics of the stand-off. 11mo
Cinfhen Wow! I hadn‘t realized you were still eating only vegetarian all this time! Sorry you had a flare up but glad you‘re feeling better. 11mo

Another week with a #BookReport and no reviews! 🤦🏻‍♀️ However I hope to make it up by posting about #CampLitsy later this week. Stay tuned!

A lot of #LikeNotLove books this week, so no hierarchy. I finished another for #AuthorAMonth, and it was a so-so. I read two books about the medical profession and was really moved by both. Chin-Quee did an excellent job of expressing the depression I felt during my training and how isolating it was. ⬇️

sarahbarnes Glad you had a good reading week! 11mo
Megabooks I wanted to love The Bandit Queens more than I did. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tornado Weather and Ruthy Ramirez were literary mysteries I enjoyed reading but I don‘t think either will stick. Thank you for sending Grown Ups @squirrelbrain 💜 Ida was an interesting character. Definitely a sh!t stirrer! 🤣 Shrew is my fave Shakespeare play, but I didn‘t really care for Tyler‘s adaptation (Vinegar Girl). Also the bulb looks to be an atypical daffodil, Helen! (edited) 11mo
Megabooks Camp Zero and Bottoms Up were both bails deep into the book. Zero‘s main narrator didn‘t work, but I wasn‘t enjoying it enough to go back in print. Bottoms was a bizarre look at the Deep State but some of the descriptions of torture, I just couldn‘t stomach. It was interesting though! 11mo

Happy Easter y‘all! It is dogwood/azalea time in my neighborhood, and hopefully I can share some gorgeous pictures next week!

I‘ve seen several people review Biography of X, and for me, it was a 5⭐️ brilliant book!! The new T. Egan history/true crime and Chung memoir were fantastic too.

Comedy and Community were both very cute! Adelaide did not work for me, but I think it‘s more to do with the character than the writing. #BookReport More ⬇️

Megabooks I didn‘t know much about professional running or the John Birch Society before reading Goucher and Dallek‘s books, but I enjoyed learning. Ahdoot‘s food/comedy memoir was fine, but 6 hours was enough! 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ (edited) 12mo

Yay Spring! Great on top, good in the middle, so-so on bottom. Ari‘s memoir was sensational! Thank you @squirrelbrain for the rec of Marriage and the credit I used to by Lobster! I enjoyed both. I preferred Out There (speculative) to Cursed Bunny (MR/horror), but glad I read both. Henry Clay my dog was named for the 19th c politician from KY, so I had to read the bio. Lapidarium is a must read if you enjoy geology or gemology! #BookReport

Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole you must get your hands on Ari‘s memoir if you haven‘t already! I‘d say Windfall is a skip. Ducks is a much better memoir about oil issues. 12mo

Chelsea.Poole Lovely report, as always! And noted! I keep trying to get to Ducks but also thought Windfall seemed interesting. The tagged I‘ve seen in passing but hadn‘t put much thought into it so now it‘s going TBR! Thanks ☺️ 12mo
squirrelbrain The Shapiro sounds great - off to have a look, see if I can get it over here. 🤞 12mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! I definitely think you‘d enjoy Ari‘s memoir! Same to you @squirrelbrain ! 🤞🏻 it‘s available in the UK or on scribd or Hoopla for you C. 👍🏻 12mo
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole windfall started strong but the second half blew it for me. She bit off too much and the organization and inclusions seemed forced. She explained her decisions in an epilogue and it shone a light 💡 like, yes this forced structure ruined it! I was lucky that my Libby library had Ducks but it seems like something that would come to hoopla because they have so many graphic titles. 🤔 interested in what you think of all 3! (edited) 12mo
Cinfhen I saw the Shapiro on Scribd yesterday! Will definitely be checking it out later this month 😁along with Pais Hilton 😂 12mo

I had a decent week despite being knee deep in Passover preparations 🤪 Best of the bunch was Stone Cold Fox but the ending was a letdown. Suburban Hell was fun on audio, Little Monsters was ok, Ladyparts was wayyyyy too long plus I found the author difficult to root for, On Division was awful 😖 and Kaikeyi was actually very good, just a bit too winded for me.

Last week I made a #BookReport and didn‘t post it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I read some exceptional books this week (top) and some very good ones (middle). Bottom row is 👎🏻

Poverty and Flight both taught me a lot, and Singer‘s Gun and Done reminded me that I do enjoy a good mystery now and then. Ducks (review soon) is one of the best graphic memoirs I‘ve read! Pilgrims reminded me of the power of a good story, and I loved the ace rep in Mermaid.

Audiobooks are getting me through life right now. 😂 I‘m so glad I was able to catch up on a few reviews today, and I had a really great birthday weekend overall!

Best on top! Two fantastic short story collections and Hello Beautiful. The rest are in no particular order. #lazy 😉 The Exceptions was a great look at sexism in STEM academia, but it got a bit long. The Lipman was some fun 🧠🍭, but the Shapiro was really hard/dark. #BookReport

Cinfhen Yay for audiobooks!! There are a few on there I‘ve been eyeing 👀 13mo

So my disabled mom fell. She didn‘t break anything, but things are hard right now. I have a bit of time to read but not much for social media. I will be back eventually, though!

Best on top, other picks in the middle, ones I didn‘t love on bottom. More discussion of Madam ⬇️.

I‘m glad to have read one for #AuthorAMonth and hope to get to Mice this week! My #doublespin (Pachinko) was good. It was 💯 worth it to splurge on High! #BookReport

This was a difficult week for me, so I went through a spate of bails. However, I did manage to finish seven books, including a fantastic reread of Anthropocene and some other enjoyable books, too. I am loving the daffodils. Molly is going next Sunday for pictures with the Easter bunny and is getting a new outfit for the occasion! Hard times pass. Fortunately, there are always books, dogs, and friends. 💜 #BookReport

Bookwormjillk I hope next week is better and you let us see pictures of Molly with the bunny! 13mo
rockpools I hope next week is better! Your neighbourhood daffodils are beautiful- ours aren‘t out yet, I‘ve only seen 1 so far this year. 13mo

Another busy week! I had two bails halfway through. Maame I‘m going to come back to with my #LMPBC group, but I just wasn‘t enjoying the new Moyes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really loved the two business entertainment books about CBS and HBO (top row), and Silent was an enjoyable suspense novel with a great narrator. I‘ve been hitting the memoirs hard this month! Pat, Unraveling, Sleep (review soon) were great, but Dyscalculia wasn‘t my jam. #BookReport

Cinfhen Fantastic week, even with the bails 🙌🏻 13mo

Best on the top, especially Molly! 💜 I had my first February 5⭐️ (Hijab), and while I genuinely enjoyed a lot of the books I read this week, the new @SGJ book is the only other over 4⭐️ read. I rarely like second books in trilogies, but it was fantastic!

The rest, minus BFF, were between 3.25-4⭐️. Some were really unique (Employees and Bug), and I learned a lot from Moons, Savage, and the Wood.

I‘m picking Eagles for you, Cindy! #BookReport

Busy morning, but I will try to get to the three reviews I haven‘t written (books on bottom). I‘m glad my filling for vegan rice paper dumplings is done!!

Best on top. Reading Erdrich has been such a joy this month! Delay was one of the best memoirs I‘ve read in awhile. (I‘m going for quality over quantity in that genre this year!)

Scattered and My Volcano fall into the wonderfully weird category! ToBAF for sure! #BookReport

This was a great kickoff to the year! Two 5⭐️ books already, Plainsong and Night Watchman, and both from challenges, which is why I do them! 🤩 My other two #ALSpine reads, Bell Jar and Ghosts, were great also. I made my #roll100 goal of one each from print and audio even though they weren‘t fantastic. (Climbing Mount TBR one book at a time!) Babel is a new fave from the #tob, but Age of Vice was a bust. Review of Drinking Games soon. #BookReport

A Christmas evening #BookReport about a fantastic week! All picks! Two 5⭐️ and a 4.75⭐️ on the top row. Touch was a close runner up. I had a couple of light listen audiobooks (Mustique and Feldmans) and two nonfiction that gave me a lot to this about (Fire and Wizards). Fire and Wizards sounds like an unauthorized HP spin-off! 🤣 Dr. No and Aesthetica were light picks, but I may have gone in with expectations too high. Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎅🏼

Big reading week! And already two bingos! #BookReport

Bottom row is to be reviewed, but Violin and Island aren‘t my favorites on in the #tob shortlist. I did enjoy my M2M reread though. Driver‘s is one of the best celebrity memoirs I‘ve read this year.

I enjoyed both #AuthorAMonth and #Bookspin, which I finished for the year this week, and I really want to thank Soubhi and Sarah for running these every month! 👏🏻💜

I stayed up last night finishing the AWESOME O‘Farrell, so I‘ve been dragging today! Iykyk 😂 Other favorites on the top row.

I am still trying to figure out what to write about The Friend, and I finished it Tuesday. She‘s another author whose backlist I want to tackle.

Just finished Jaded Women. Too many characters to keep track of! Mona went into hibernation for #Peru #ReadingTheAmericas2023. I liked the photo with the holly tho. #BookReport

vivastory The Friend is a favorite of the year. I read this spring and think about it often. 1y

Last White Man was a disappointment. I always think I‘ll enjoy Hamid more than I do. Raising Lazarus was better than Dopesick, and I recommend it to all the other Littens interested in the opiate crisis.

I‘m having trouble concentrating on print this month so I only finished two books for #CampLitsy. I enjoyed our How High discussion and can‘t wait for True Biz!

I didn‘t think I had read so much this week, but here we are! I read four amazing essay collections: Happy, Bethlehem, Embrace, and Patriarchy. It‘s a genre I don‘t read enough of for how much I enjoy it. The Bohjalian was disappointing, and while Rabbit Cake was good, it still didn‘t live up to my high hopes. What a week! All fiction! 🤯

The Ozeki and the Egan were long and totally worth it! I still haven‘t reviewed the Egan, but it was totally right book/right time.

Red Island House and Yerba Buena were disappointing, but I enjoyed Carol and my reread of The Smash Up. Cats suffered from a poor narrator, and I just finished If, Then a few hours ago. It‘s more literary than sci fi, which was a bit bait and switch. 🤔 #BookReport

Slow reading week, but some FANTASTIC books!! I‘d recommend all these completed books to various readers in my life.

The tea: I wasn‘t invested in Libertie. It was just too slow. Piper‘s book was self involved navel gazing, but since I own it maybe I‘ll come back. 🥱 Tagged ⬇️

I‘m enjoying my 5th yearly reread of All Grown Up. I truly get something new each time. This year it‘s very personal, and I doubt I‘ll share.

Happy weekend! #BookReport

Cinfhen Fabulous #BookReport 💓🙌🏻😘 2y

Reggie The Piper, my take on it was that she was a a little sad that she wasn‘t the one the tennis coach didn‘t obsess over. There was some great stuff in there but you‘re right. 2y

It‘s been a slower reading week for me. NonFiction just takes longer to digest.

I hope to finish Islands of Abandonment this weekend, and maybe also Lab Girl. They are both excellent.

I picked up the second Percy Jackson to give my brain a break, but honestly I think I‘m going to bail on it… not connecting, so it‘s probably destined for my LFL.

Doing my #BookReport early b/c Molly & I are TIRED!

Best of the week are Matrix 🙌🏻 (read my review) and Several People Are Typing.

The two bails…I really tried. Vessel suffered from poor translation. People We Keep was not my book.

I really enjoyed the 100 pages I read of the Rooney today! I know @Cinfhen says she skews young, but I can see my younger self in her books. Last Flight I‘m have trouble getting into, but it‘s my #bookspin. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great week! The only book there I‘ve read is Eloquent Rage… it seems a fitting read this week. My feeling for that vibe this week led me to pick up Everything‘s Trash 😂 totally different book, but I‘m betting picked for similar reasons (real world craziness and feeling that everything is trash and wanting to rage eloquently about it) 3y
Megabooks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa thanks! It was a good read this week. Crazy things going on, unfortunately. Phoebe‘s new book comes out later this month, and I am first at the library. 👍🏻👍🏻 3y
Cinfhen I recognize my younger self in Rooney‘s writing too but I‘d like to see her write something different. All three of her novels feel wayyyyy too similar. Fabulous week, Meg!!! I have this one on my #WeeklyForecast too 3y

Cinfhen Last Flight was VERY MEDIOCRE ( IMHO) it might need to go in #Hibernation for you 🐻 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I don‘t feel Rooney‘s books are similar other than being about rather angsty young people. I see her evolution as a writer. I‘m not very far in BC, but I‘m glad I picked it up from #botm. Unsure about Last Flight, but I‘m going to keep trying as of now. 21% in. Ugh, I think it‘s bedtime. 3y

Megabooks @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I‘m sorry if I don‘t get back to your emails this weekend. Some takeout I had Saturday had breadcrumbs in it. I thought I had removed them enough, but I‘m having a gluten reaction, and my whole body aches. I don‘t know if it would be this way if I didn‘t have other health problems, but either way, I can barely type this. 🤞🏻 it doesn‘t last past the weekend. 💜 3y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks so sorry you‘re in pain. I hope you‘ll feel better soon. Take care and rest 🤍🤞🏽 3y
Cinfhen Oh no, I‘m so sorry 😢 hope the pain and discomfort passes quickly xxx 3y

Second week in a row that I‘m doing a #BookReport with Molly sleeping on top of me. While she‘s good for snuggling, she makes it hard to be productive!

Best of the week was definitely Sorrow and Bliss 💜

Cinfhen Wonderful 🎉🙌🏻♥️ 3y
squirrelbrain I loved Sorrow and Bliss too (and The Suspect). 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! 😘😘 3y

I‘m trying to let Molly sleep (we don‘t quite have a rhythm), so here‘s my 3 AM, in the dark #BookReport @Cinfhen 👍🏻🤗

Other than my bail, I didn‘t have any stinkers this week, but the standouts were definitely The Lost Family and Rewind.

I‘m enjoying my current read but not loving it. I was all hyped up for it, so maybe that‘s my problem…or maybe I‘m feeling so much joy that I can‘t relate to grief. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

rockpools Aww. How‘s Molly settling in? 🐶 3y
Megabooks @rockpools pretty well overall. Her manners are amazing for a shelter dog! She is very clingy, but I think that will get better as she feels more confident in knowing that I will always come back for her. I couldn‘t be more pleased to have her as part of the family!! 3y
Megabooks @rockpools thanks for asking!! 3y

Cinfhen I‘m amazed you were able to finish so many books with the new addition to your family!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Need to take notes on your reads…already have Lost Family, need to find this one when I‘m in the thriller mood 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I didn‘t finish a book on Thursday, but other than that I‘ve been able to read pretty well. I‘ve just started back with print this morning. She‘s gotten used to listening to audiobooks, but sometimes I fall asleep listening because I‘ve been so much more active!! Another 15k+ step day yesterday, and it even rained all afternoon!! But I wouldn‘t change it for the world. 💜💜 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen and you should be able to get Rewind in paperback because it came out in 2019. (I managed to snag a bargain book hardcover.) I definitely recommend it! 3y
BarbaraBB Another 15k step day! You‘re doing so good, the both of you I mean! And I just started this one, my first Howard. I will get to Rewind soon too I guess. 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Thanks! I hope you enjoy 56 Days. They were both over 4⭐️ for me. Right now she‘s enjoying killing lambchop again. Lambchop just won‘t die! 😂 3y
BarbaraBB Does she ever rest?!?! 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB no, she only has one mode - on. 😂 she‘s been playing all night, and we‘ve been on three walks since 5 PM (it‘s 9:15)! Right now she‘s “killing” one of her toys. I‘m not used to having a dog this young!! 3y
BarbaraBB That sounds tough but sweet too. She‘s got so much energy. Lots of audiowalking or is it too early for that? 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB too early. I‘m still trying to get a walking rhythm with her. She‘s an okay walker. She likes to lie in the yard, then she‘s usually fine on the sidewalk except when she sees a person then she is convinced they want to give her belly rubs. We had 3 dozen runners (no exaggeration - I guess they were a club 🤷🏻‍♀️) pass us over a few minutes Saturday morning. That was incredibly frustrating!! 3y
BarbaraBB It sounds so funny but I believe that it must be frustrating. Convinced everyone wants to give her belly rub 🤣😍 3y

I, like you Cindy, must tackle my #ARC #MtNetGalley this week!
Going to have to put my #pagecountphobia inducing Outlander aside, and try and finish my 4 #ARcs before month end. (Who am I kidding?) 😳
Good week of reading though…💕
#bookreport & #weeklyforecast

Cinfhen GREAT week of reading!!!!! Good luck with #MtNetGalley 😘😘 (edited) 3y

Definitely haven‘t been reading much for some reason. I mean I do have great books to finish and attractive stacks of TBRs. I think it‘s just my mood right now. @Cinfhen

Cinfhen As long as you‘re feeling ok the other stuff doesn‘t matter. I recently re-read Thornbirds ❤️it was SO GOOD 3y

- Loved the 3 I finished this week.
- currently loving Animal on audio, and finally trying Outlander (as one of the longest book on my TBR for #pop21 advanced) and the #pagecountphobia is real! 😳
- Next up are a couple of recent releases, calling me from my nightstand!

Cinfhen Awesomeness ❣️❣️❣️ 3y
squirrelbrain I just got Animal on Libby - not audio though, an e-book…. 3y
Cathythoughts I have Strange Flowers… good to hear you liked it. I must get to it soon 🤞🏻 3y

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast in one!

The Sea Prayer was a beautiful, heartbreaking picture book I read for #pop21
Liked The Atmospherians, as odd as it was!
Addie was a re-read for a bookclub this week (this time on audio).
I enjoyed The Maidens for its setting, but can‘t seem to really get on with thrillers right now… good not great…🤷‍♀️
And the new Casey McQuiston was such a disappointment, as I loved RW and RB, and this was really meh! ☹️

Cinfhen Wow!!! Busy week!!! Well done 🥰 3y
BarbaraBB Sea Prayer was a 5⭐️read for me. 3y
KarenUK @BarbaraBB Me too. So heartbreaking. 3y

I adored both books I read this week…. Two ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reads! Deborah Levy is a recent favorite of mine, and The Guncle was a delightful surprise… laugh out loud funny and ugly cry poignant, all in one read…. 🌈

Only just started my Claire Fuller, plan to really get stuck in on my next day off.
I have a couple of ARcs to read- Both late, one end of May, one June 1st release. 🤦‍♀️One day I‘ll catch up!

Cinfhen How‘s the new store coming along??? I need to read The Guncle since I LOVED 3y
BarbaraBB I need to read the Levy now! 3y

#weeklyforecast & #bookreport @Cinfhen

- A great reading week. Enjoyed all four books I finished.
- In progress, Part 3 of Deborah Levy‘s ‘living autobiography‘ is excellent so far, The Guncle is fun on audio, and I‘ve just started the Claire Fuller, but the first chapter has me invested….

squirrelbrain Really liked the Fuller. I‘ve read lots of reviews of the Levy this weekend - I haven‘t read any yet in that ‘series‘ but it‘s definitely on my radar now. 3y
Cinfhen Love this BookReport/ WeeklyForecast 💓I‘ve read a few and I‘m excited to read a few!! 3y
KarenUK @squirrelbrain Fuller is one of my favorite authors, and 1 chapter in, I‘m already hooked (unfortunately I‘m working today, so no reading for me today!). I didn‘t read the first Levy, but did read the second. They stand alone to be honest…. They are like a modern day ‘room of one‘s own‘ vibe but in her authorial voice (which I love in fiction) I think you‘d like them Helen… 💕 3y
KarenUK @Cinfhen Considering I had a busy work week, I was really over the moon with my reading week! 💕 3y
squirrelbrain I shall add them to the never-ending TBR list....😁. Hope your day is going well. 3y
